Geographical features and development models of estuarine cities

Cities are the key areas for human beings to achieve sustainable development goals in the future.Estuarine cities are a special type of coastal city in urgent need of a clear definition.This paper proposed that estuarine cities are cities developed on the coast where rivers and oceans meet and defined four connotations,including the intersection of rivers and marine water systems,the coordinated development of land and oceans,the location advantages of connecting rivers and seas,and the important fragility of the ecological environment.We used Hydro SHEDS,OSM,GPW,and urban socioeconomic statistics and selected 50 estuarine cities with large rivers as representatives to summarize the main geographical basis and socioeconomic characteristics.Cities are primarily found in low-altitude,flat regions with average annual temperatures that mainly vary from 10℃to 25℃,relatively abundant precipitation,and extensive biological resources.There are substantial variations in the socioeconomic features of estuarine cities.We proposed eight development patterns,including open and inclusive city spirit,high-quality livable cities,high-quality development driven by innovation,integration of internal and external communication with ports and cities,construction of an international financial center,ecological environment protection and restoration,active promotion of cultural tourism,and positive international exchanges.

Full-domain collaborative deployment method of multiple interference sources and evaluation of its deployment effect

This paper realizes the full-domain collaborative deployment of multiple interference sources of the global satellite navigation system(GNSS)and evaluates the deployment effect to enhance the ability to disturb the attacker and the capability to defend the GNSS during navigation countermeasures.Key evaluation indicators for the jamming effect of GNSS suppressive and deceptive jamming sources are first created,their evaluation models are built,and their detection procedures are sorted out,as the basis for determining the deployment principles.The principles for collaboratively deploying multi-jamming sources are developed to obtain the deployment structures(including the required number,structures in demand,and corresponding positions)of three single interference sources required by collaboratively deploying.Accordingly,simulation and hardware-in-loop testing results are presented to determine a rational configuration of the collaborative deployment of multi-jamming sources in the set situation and further realize the full-domain deployment of an interference network from ground,air to space.Varied evaluation indices for the deployment effect are finally developed to evaluate the deployment effect of the proposed configuration and further verify its reliability and rationality.

PACS gene family-related neurological diseases: limited genotypes and diverse phenotypes

Background The PACS gene family has been demonstrated to be related to intracellular vesicular trafficking.The phenotypic manifestations caused by the pathogenic variants of PACS include epilepsy,intellectual disability/developmental delay,and malformations,such as facial abnormalities.Methods We identified seven new cases with pathogenic or likely pathogenic PACS variants using next-generation sequencing.Detailed information obtained from these patients was analyzed along with that obtained from previously reported patients.Results With the inclusion of the newly diagnosed cases in this study,103 cases with PACS gene family-related neurological diseases were reported,of which 43 were PACS2-related cases and the remaining were PACSI-related cases.Most patients had seizures,which have been reported to be effectively controlled by several types of anti-seizure medications(ASMs).The most efficacious and frequently prescribed ASMs included sodium valproate(43.3%,13/30),oxcarbazepine/carbamazepine(26.7%,8/30),and levetiracetam(20%,6/30).Almost all patients had intellectual disability/developmental delay.The most common pathogenic missense variants were PACSI p.Arg203Trp and PACS2 p.Glu209Lys.In addition,we report a patient carrying a likely pathogenic copy number variation(CNV)(de novo heterozygous deletion of chr14:105821380-106107443,286 kilobase,destroyed part of the furin-binding region domain and the protein structure after it)with more severe and refractory late-onset epilepsy.Conclusions The clinical phenotypes of the different PACS heterozygous missense variants were similar.The pathogenic variant sites of PACSI and PACS2 were quite limited but located in different regions.A CNV destroying part of the PACS2 gene might also be pathogenic.These findings may provide an important clue for further functional studies on the pathogenic mechanism of neurological disorders related to the PACS gene family.

Seawater temperature and salinity sensing based on in-fiber Michelson-Fabry-Perrot hybrid interferometer employing frequency domain decomposition method

We propose an in-fiber Michelson-Fabry-Perrot(M-FP)hybrid interferometer for the simultaneous measurement of seawater temperature and salinity.The sensor head consists of two parallel hetero Fabry-Perot(FP)cavities fabricated on the end face of the twin core fiber(TCF).A fiber fusion taper is used to split and recouple the light in the two cores.In this case,the Vernier effect can be obtained which can greatly enhance the sensitivity and solve the problem of temperature cross-sensitivity.Different from the traditional demodulation method based on envelop detection,we employed frequency domain decomposition method(FDDM)to demodulate the sensing signal.The simulation results indicate that the proposed sensor has high sensitivity to salinity and temperature.Thanks to the merits of high sensitivity,ease of fabrication and small footprint,the proposed seawater temperature and salinity sensor would have potential applications in marine science,food industry and ocean ranching.

Factors influencing Frey syndrome after parotidectomy with acellular dermal matrix

BACKGROUND Frey syndrome,also known as ototemporal nerve syndrome or gustatory sweating syndrome,is one of the most common complications of parotid gland surgery.This condition is characterized by abnormal sensations in the facial skin accompanied by episodes of flushing and sweating triggered by cognitive processes,visual stimuli,or eating.AIM To investigate the preventive effect of acellular dermal matrix(ADM)on Frey syndrome after parotid tumor resection and analyzed the effects of Frey syndrome across various surgical methods and other factors involved in parotid tumor resection.METHODS Retrospective data from 82 patients were analyzed to assess the correlation between sex,age,resection sample size,operation time,operation mode,ADM usage,and occurrence of postoperative Frey syndrome.RESULTS Among the 82 patients,the incidence of Frey syndrome was 56.1%.There were no significant differences in sex,age,or operation time between the two groups(P>0.05).However,there was a significant difference between ADM implantation and occurrence of Frey syndrome(P<0.05).ADM application could reduce the variation in the incidence of Frey syndrome across different operation modes.CONCLUSION ADM can effectively prevent Frey syndrome and delay its onset.

Population evolution at the prefecture-level city scale in China:Change patterns and spatial correlations

China has entered a new stage of high-quality urbanization.Therefore,it is critical to grasp the latest population distribution and dynamics.Using mean-variance grading,Moran’s index,and the Theil index,this study compared the differences in population changes between 2010–2020 and 2000–2010 at the prefecture-level city scale based on census data to analyze the new trends in population evolution.We found that:(1)New growth poles of the population are inland provincial capitals,forming rapid-growing zones together with coastal urban agglomerations.Population growth in over 60%of the cities in the northern coastal urban agglomeration has slowed.(2)The scope of population loss in inland areas is constantly expanding.In the northeastern part of China,92.7%of the cities have lost population,making this a typical population loss area.(3)Population shrinkage in the northeastern region and growth in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration show diffusion characteristics,while population patterns around the provincial capital are in a polarized stage.(4)The Theil index of population distribution increased,with 83.91%of differences coming from between groups,indicating that the gap between cities of different sizes has further expanded.This study provides scientific support for the coordinated promotion of nearby and remote urbanization.

Postoperative abdominal herpes zoster complicated by intestinal obstruction:A case report

BACKGROUND Intestinal obstruction is a common occurrence in clinical practice.However,the occurrence of herpes zoster complicated by intestinal obstruction after abdominal surgery is exceedingly rare.In the diagnostic and treatment process,clinicians consider it crucial to identify the primary causes of its occurrence to ensure effective treatment and avoiding misdiagnosis.CASE SUMMARY Herein,we present the case of a 40-year-old female patient with intestinal obstruction who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy and developed herpes zoster after surgery.Combining the patient's clinical manifestations and relevant laboratory tests,it was suggested that the varicella zoster virus reactivated during the latent period after abdominal surgery,causing herpes zoster.Subsequently,the herpes virus invaded the visceral nerve fibers,causing gastrointestinal dysfunction and loss of intestinal peristalsis,which eventually led to intestinal obstruction.The patient was successfully treated through conservative treatment and antiviral therapy and subsequently discharged from the hospital.CONCLUSION Pseudo-intestinal obstruction secondary to herpes zoster infection is difficult to distinguish from mechanical intestinal obstruction owing to various causes.In cases of inexplicable intestinal obstructions,considering the possibility of a viral infection is essential to minimize misdiagnosis and missed diagnoses。

Main controlling factor and mechanism of gas-in-place content of the Lower Cambrian shale from different sedimentary facies in the western Hubei area, South China

The Lower Cambrian shale gas in the western Hubei area, South China has a great resource prospect, but the gas-in-place（GIP） content in different sedimentary facies varies widely, and the relevant mechanism has been not well understood. In the present study, two sets of the Lower Cambrian shale samples from the Wells YD4 and YD5 in the western Hubei area, representing the deep-water shelf facies and shallowwater platform facies, respectively, were investigated on the differences of pore types, pore structure and methane adsorption capacity between them, and the main controlling factor and mechanism of their methane adsorption capacities and GIP contents were discussed. The results show that the organic matter（OM） pores in the YD4 shale samples are dominant, while the inorganic mineral（IM） pores in the YD5 shale samples are primary, with underdeveloped OM pores. The pore specific surface area（SSA） and pore volume（PV） of the YD4 shale samples are mainly from micropores and mesopores, respectively,while those of the YD5 shale samples are mainly from micropores and macropores, respectively. The methane adsorption capacity of the YD4 shale samples is significantly higher than that of the YD5 shale samples, with a maximum absolute adsorption capacity of 3.13 cm3/g and 1.31 cm3/g in average,respectively. Compared with the shallow-water platform shale, the deep-water shelf shale has a higher TOC content, a better kerogen type and more developed OM pores, which is the main mechanism for its higher adsorption capacity. The GIP content models based on two samples with a similar TOC content selected respectively from the Wells YD4 and YD5 further indicate that the GIP content of the deep-water shelf shale is mainly 3 4 m3/t within a depth range of 1000—4000 m, with shale gas exploration and development potential, while the shallow-water platform shale has normally a GIP content of <1 m3/t,with little shale gas potential. Effect of Ti Particles on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of AZ91 Magnesium Matrix Composites

Spherical micro-Ti particle(TiP)-reinforced AZ91 magnesium alloy composites were fabricated by semi-solid stirring assisted ultrasonic vibration,which were then subjected to hot extrusion.The microstructure results showed that the addition of Ti particles refined the grain size and decreased the texture intensity of the as-extruded AZ91 alloy.An Al3Ti phase with a thickness of 100 nm formed at the Ti/Mg interface,which had a non-coherent relationship with the magnesium matrix.The as-extruded 1 vol.%TiP/AZ91 composite exhibited the best comprehensive mechanical properties,with yield strength,ultimate tensile strength,and elongation at break of 366 MPa,456 MPa,and 14.6%,respectively,which were significantly higher than those of the AZ91 alloy.Therefore,the addition of Ti particles can improve the strength and ductility of the AZ91 alloy,demonstrating the value of magnesium matrix composites for commercial applications.

Recent advances in vacancy engineering for reliable lithiumsulfur batteries

The high-energy-density and low-cost features endow lithium-sulfur batteries with broad application prospects.However,many drawbacks,especially the detrimental shuttle effect,have hindered the further development of LSBs.In response,a lot of new structures have been applied to suppress the shuttle effect and promote the development of LSBs.Recently,vacancy engineering has gained the attention of researchers due to its unique electronic structure.This review aims to analyze the application of vacancy engineering in LSBs.Firstly,the electrochemistry of LSBs has been systematically discussed and the existing challenges as well as improvement tactics of LSBs have also been presented.Subsequently,the preparation methods and characterization technologies of various vacancies are summarized,including oxygen vacancies,sulfur vacancies,selenium vacancies,other anion vacancies,cation vacancies,etc.The latest applications of vacancy engineering in LSBs are also summarized in this review.Finally,some prospects and insights for further investigation and practical application of vacancy engineering in LSBs are put forward.
