Competition of Composition Fluctuation Modes in Weakly Segregated Salt-doped Symmetric Diblock Copolymers

Salt-doped block copolymers have widespread applications in batteries,fuel cells,semiconductors,and various industries,where their properties crucially depend on phase separation ***,investigations into salt-doped diblock copolymers have predominantly focused on microphase separation,overlooking the segregation between ionic and polymeric *** study employs weak segregation theory to explore the interplay between phase separation dominated by the polymer-modulated mode and the salt-out-modulated mode,corresponding to microscopic and macroscopic phase separations,*** comparing diblock copolymers doped with salts to those doped with neutral solvents,we elucidate the significant role of charged species in modulating phase *** phase separation mode exhibits a transition between the polymer-modulated and salt-out-modulated modes at different *** systems doped with neutral solvents,this transition is stepwise,while in salt-ion-doped systems,it is *** a sufficiently large Flory-Huggins parameter between ions and polymers,the salt-out-modulated mode becomes dominant,promoting macrophase *** to the solvation effect of salt ions,salt-doped systems are more inclined to undergo microphase ***,we explore factors influencing the critical wavenumber of phase separation,including doping level and the Flory-Huggins parameters between two blocks and between ions and polymeric *** findings reveal that in a neutral solvent environment,these factors alter only the boundary between micro-and macro-phase separations,leaving the critical wavenumber unchanged in microphase separation ***,in a salt-doped environment,the critical wavenumber of microphase separation varies with these *** provides valuable insights into the pivotal role of electrostatics in the phase separation of salt-doped block copolymers.

Italicized carbon nanotube facilitating water transport:a molecular dynamics simulation

While the preferential movement of water inside carbon nanotube is appealing for water purification,our understanding of the water transport mechanism through carbon nanotube(CNT)-based membrane is far from adequate. Here we conducted molecular dynamics simulations to study how the alignment of the CNTs in the membrane affects the water transport through the CNT membrane. It was shown that compared to the conventional CNT membrane where the alignment of CNTs was vertical to membrane surface, the ‘‘italicized CNT membrane'' in which the contact angel between membrane surface and the CNT alignment is not 90° offered a higher transmembrane flux of water. The expanded exposure of more carbon atoms to water molecules reduced the energy barrier near the entrance of this italicized CNT membrane, compared to the vertical one. For water flows through the italicized CNT membrane, the Lennard-Jones interaction between water and nanotube as function of central path of the CNT changes from ‘‘U'' to ‘‘V'' pattern, which significantly lowers energy barrier for filling water into the CNT,favoring the water transport inside carbon nanotube. Above simulation indicates new opportunities for applying CNT in water purification or related fields in which water transport matters.

Molecular dynamics for the charging behavior of nanostructured electric double layer capacitors containing room temperature ionic liquids

The charging kinetics of electric double layers （EDLs） is closely related to the performance of a wide variety of nanostructured devices including supercapacitors, electro-actuators, and electrolyte-gated transistors. While room temperature ionic liquids （RTIL） are often used as the charge carrier in these new applications, the theoretical analyses are mostly based on conventional electrokinetic theories suitable for macroscopic electrochemical phenomena in aqueous solutions. In this work, we study the charging behavior of RTIL-EDLs using a coarse-grained molecular model and constant-potential molecular dynamics （MD） simulations. In stark contrast to the predictions of conventional theories, the MD results show oscillatory variations of ionic distributions and electrochemical properties in response to the separation between electrodes. The rate of EDL charging exhibits non-monotonic behavior revealing strong electrostatic correlations in RTIL under confinement.

A Two-Lane Cellular Automata Model with Influence of Next-Nearest Neighbor Vehicle

In this paper, we propose a new two-lane cellular automata model in which the influence of the next-nearest neighbor vehicle is considered, The attributes of the traffic system composed of fast-lane and slow-lane are investigated by the new traffic model. The simulation results show that the proposed two-lane traffic model can reproduce some traffic phenomena observed in real traffic, and that maximum flux and critical density are close to the field measurements. Moreover, the initial density distribution of the fast-lane and slow-lane has much influence on the traffic flow states. With the ratio between the densities of slow lane and fast lane increasing the lane changing frequency increases, but maximum flux decreases. Finally, the influence of the sensitivity coefficients is discussed.

A biological potassium channel is> 1000 times more permeable to K+than to Na+and exhibits a giant permeation rate of ～108ions/*** is a great challenge to construct artificial potassium channels with such high sele ctivity and ion conduction ***,we unveil a long-overlo oked structural feature that underpins the ultra-high K+/Na+*** carrying out massive molecular dynamics simulation for ion transport through carbonyl-oxygen-modified bi-layer graphene nanopores,we find that the twisted carbonyl rings enable strict potassium selectivity with a dynamic K+/Na+selectivity ratio of 1295 and a K+conduction rate of 3.5 × 107ions/s,approaching those of the biological ***,atomic trajectories of K+permeation events suggest a dual-ion transport mode,*** like-charged potassium ions are successively captured by the nanopores in the graphene bi-layer and are interconnected by sharing one or two interlayer water *** dual-ion behavior allows rapid release of the exiting potassium ion via a soft knock-on mechanism,which has previously been found only in biological ion *** a proof-of-concept utilization of this discovery,we propose a novel way for ionic power generation by mixing KCl and NaCl solutions through the bi-layer graphene nanopores,termed potassium-permselectivity enabled osmotic power generation(PoPee-OP G).Theoretically,the biomimetic device achieves a very high power density of> 1000 W/m2with graphene sheets of <1% *** study provides a blueprint for artificial potassium channels and thus paves the way toward next-generation electric-eel-mimetic ionic power generation.

A simple permanent deformation model of rockfill materials

Existing experimental results have shown that using a semi-log linear relationship between the permanent volumetric strain and cyclic number underestimates the volumetric deformation of rockfill materials with a large cyclic number, and that the error increases with the confining pressure. The existing permanent deformation models are not suitable for the seismic safety analysis of high dams during strong earthquakes. In this study, a series of large-scale triaxial cyclic loading tests of rockfill materials were performed, and a new permanent deformation model of rockfill materials was developed and validated with three kinds of rockfill materials. The results show that the proposed model can properly reflect the general features of the permanent deformation of rockfill materials. The main features of the model are as follows:(1) relations between the cyclic number and permanent volumetric/shear strain are described by hyperbolic functions, which can avoid underestimating the volumetric deformation occurring during strong earthquakes;(2) the model can capture the effect of the mean effective stress on the permanent volumetric strain, with greater confining pressure correlating to greater permanent volumetric deformation, and the permanent volumetric strain under low confining pressure near the dam crest can be well represented; and(3) the model can reflect the effect of the consolidation stress ratio on the permanent shear strain.

Bearing Capacity and Critical Punch-Through Depth of Spudcan on Sand Overlying Clay

Spudcan may experience punch-through failure on strong over weak layered soils, such as sand overlying clay. A large deformation finite element method （LDFE） is used to simulate the penetration process of spudcan into sand overlying clay. The sand is simulated by smoothed hyperbolic Mohr-Coulomb model, and the clay is simulated by a simple elasto-plastic model which obeys Tresca yield criterion. According to the LDFE results of a large amount of cases, the effects of the strength, unit weight and thickness of the top sand layer, as well as the effect of the strength of the underlying clay on the spudcan punch-through behavior, are investigated. The critical depth occurring punch-through and the critical bearing capacity are presented in charts. Fitting equations to calculate the critical punch-through depth and the critical bearing capacity are proposed for the convenience of engineering practice.

Polyethylene glycol as a promising synthetic material for repair of spinal cord injury

Polyethylene glycol is a synthetic, biodegradable, and water-soluble polyether. Owing to its good biological and material properties, polyethylene glycol shows promise in spinal cord tissue engineering applications. Although studies have examined repairing spinal cord injury with polyethylene glycol, these compelling findings have not been recently reviewed or evaluated as a whole. Thus, we herein review and summarize the findings of studies conducted both within and beyond China that have examined the repair of spinal cord injury using polyethylene glycol. The following summarizes the results of studies using polyethylene glycol alone as well as coupled with polymers or hydrogels：（1） polyethylene glycol as an adjustable biomolecule carrier resists nerve fiber degeneration, reduces the inflammatory response, inhibits vacuole and scar formation, and protects nerve membranes in the acute stage of spinal cord injury.（2） Polyethylene glycol-coupled polymers not only promote angiogenesis but also carry drugs or bioactive molecules to the injury site. Because such polymers cross both the blood-spinal cord and blood-brain barriers, they have been widely used as drug carriers.（3） Polyethylene glycol hydrogels have been used as supporting substrates for the growth of stem cells after injury, inducing cell migration, proliferation, and differentiation. Simultaneously, polyethylene glycol hydrogels isolate or reduce local glial scar invasion, promote and guide axonal regeneration, cross the transplanted area, and re-establish synaptic connections with target tissue, thereby promoting spinal cord repair. On the basis of the reviewed studies, we conclude that polyethylene glycol is a promising synthetic material for use in the repair of spinal cord injury.

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of exendin-4（Ex-4） have been reported ***,whether（Ex-4） has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on high-altitude cerebral edema（HACE） remains poorly *** this study,two rat models of HACE were established by placing rats in a hypoxic environment with a simulated altitude of either 6000-or 7000-m above sea level（MASL） for 72 *** altitude of 7000 MASL with 72-hours of hypoxia was found to be the optimized experimental paradigm for establishing HACE ***,in rats where a model of HACE was established by introducing them to a 7000 MASL environment with 72-hours of hypoxia treatment,2,10 and,100 μg of Ex-4 was intraperitoneally *** open field test and tail suspension test were used to test animal *** methods were used to detect change in inflammatory ***-eosin staining was performed to determine pathological changes to brain ***/dry weight ratios were used to measure brain water *** blue leakage was used to determine blood-brain barrier ***-linked immunosorbent assay（ELISA） was performed to measure markers of inflammation and oxidative stress including superoxide dismutase,glutathione,and malonaldehyde values,as well as interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-alpha,cyclic adenosine monophosphate levels in the brain *** blot analysis was performed to determine the levels of occludin,ZO-1,SOCS-3,vascular endothelial growth factor,EPAC1,nuclear factor-kappa B,and *** results demonstrate that Ex-4 preconditioning decreased brain water content,inhibited inflammation and oxidative stress,alleviated brain tissue injury,maintain blood-brain barrier integrity,and effectively improved motor function in rat models of *** findings suggest that Ex-4 exhibits therapeutic potential in the treatment of HACE.

Correlations of β-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/neu with gastric cancer

Objective:To study the clinical pathologic characteristics ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/neu in gastric cancer and the correlation ofβ-catenin and Ki67 to the protein expression and gene conditions of Her-2/***:The protein expression ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/Neu was detected by immunohistochemistry in 101 cases of gastric cancer and the gene conditions of Her-2/Neu by fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH).Results:The protein expression ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/Neu had close relationship with the clinical pathologic characteristics of gastric ***β-catenin and Ki67 had obvious correlation to the differentiation,infiltration and lymphatic metastasis of the gastric cancer(P<0.05).The Ki67 had close relationship with the tumor-node-metastasis staging staging of gastric cancer(P<0.05).Her-2/Neu had close relationship with the differentiation and tumor-node-metastasis staging of gastric cancer(P<0.05)but had no relationship with the infiltration and lymphatic metastasis of the gastric cancer(P<0.05).The protein expression of Ki67 had significantly positive correlation to the protein expression and gene amplification conditions of Her-2/Neu(r=0.567,P<0.05 for protein;r=0.304,P<0.05 for gene).Conclusions:Combined detection ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/Neu can be used as a reliable method to help the observation of biological behavior,diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer,and Ki67 can be used to serve the preliminary screening of Her-2/Neu gene state.
