Overstory functional groups indicate the legacy of land use in a secondary tropical forest in southwestern China

Anthropogenic disturbances are widespread in tropical forests and influence the species composition in the overstory. However, the impacts of historical disturbance on tropical forest overstory recovery are unclear due to a lack of disturbance data, and previous studies have focused on understory species. In this study, the purpose was to determine the influence of historical disturbance on the diversity, composition and regeneration of overstory species in present forests. In the 20-ha Xishuangbanna tropical seasonal rainforest dynamics plot in southwestern China, the historical disturbance boundaries were delineated based on panchromatic photographs from 1965. Factors that drove species clustering in the overstory layer (DBH >= 40 cm) were analyzed and the abundance, richness and composition of these species were compared among different tree groups based on multiple regression tree analysis. The coefficient of variation of the brightness value in historical panchromatic photographs from 1965 was the primary driver of species clustering in the overstory layer. The abundance and richness of overstory species throughout the regeneration process were similar, but species composition was always different. Although the proportion of large-seeded and vigorous-sprouting species showed no significant difference between disturbed and undisturbed forests in the treelet layer (DBH < 20 cm), the difference became significant when DBH increased. The findings highlight that historical disturbances have strong legacy effects on functional group composition in the overstory and the recovery of overstory species was multidimensional. Functional group composition can better indicate the dynamics of overstory species replacement during secondary succession.

Background:Climate extremes are likely to become more common in the future and are expected to change ecosystem processes and *** important consumers of seeds in forests,rodents are likely to affect forest regeneration following an extreme weather *** April 2015,we began a field experiment after an extreme snowfall event in January 2015 in a primary forest that was>300 years *** heavy snow broke many tree limbs,which presumably reduced the numbers of seeds *** treatments(rodent exclusion and rodent access)were established in the forest,in which rodent exclusion were achieved by placing stainlessness nets around the plot *** abundance,plant species richness,soil properties,soil microbial community composition,basal and substrate-induced respiration were determined in December ***:Plant abundance and species richness significantly increased,but soil microbial biomass decreased with rodent *** activity and soil basal respiration also significantly decreased with rodent *** other soil properties,however,were unaffected by rodent *** relative effects of multiple predictors of basal respiration were mainly explained by the composition of the soil microbial ***:After a heavy snowfall in an old-growth forest,exclusion of rodents increased plant regeneration and reduced microbial biomass and soil basal *** main factor associated with the reduction in soil basal respiration was the change in the composition of the soil microbial *** findings suggest that after a heavy snowfall,rodents may interfere with forest regeneration by directly reducing plant diversity and abundance but may enhance carbon retention by indirectly altering the soil microbial community.

Understanding biodiversity and biogeographic distribution of soil fauna is an important topic in *** nematode communities have been compared among ecosystems,knowledge remains limited about how environmental factors and nematode distributions are linked at different spatial ***,we employed high-throughput sequencing to compare nematode communities in tropical(Xishuangbanna),subtropical(Ailaoshan),and cold temperate spruce-fir(Lijiang)forest ecosystems with identical spatial *** between nematode communities and environmental factors were analyzed using redundancy analysis(RDA).Our results showed that nematode richness and diversity peaked in Xishuangbanna;however,no significant differences were observed in other two forest *** feeders and Omnivores/Camivores(Om&Ca)had the lowest relative abundance,but the highest diversity,in Xishuangbanna,with the opposite pattem being detected for fungal and plant *** data also demonstrated that,for forest ecosystems,climate factors drive nematode communities distributions at the regional scale,while terrain and soil characteristics(including pH and nutrients)drive nematode communities distributions at local *** study improves our current understanding of key factors(environmental parameters)responsible for the biogeographical distribution of forest nematode communities at different spatial scales.

This paper deals with the stochastic observer design problem for the Markovian jump one-sided Lipschitz system with partly unknown transition rates. Firstly, the definitions as well as properties of one-sided Lipschitz function are ***, the observer is constructed for the system by Luenberger observer theory and the existence condition of the observer is derived by linear matrix inequality technique. Finally, two numerical examples are simulated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper.

Thromboangiitis obliterans(TAO)is a rare,chronic,progressive,and segmental inflammatory disease characterized by a high rate of amputation,significantly compromising the quality of life of ***-Miao-Yong-An decoction(SMYA),a tradition-al prescription,exhibits anti-inflammatory,anti-thrombotic,and various other pharmacological ***,it was fully proved to be effective for TAO therapy,but the specific therapeutic effect of SMYA on TAO has been ***,deep unveiling the mechanism of SMYA in TAO for identifying clinical therapeutic targets is extremely *** this study,we observed elev-ated levels of IL-17A in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)of TAO patients,whereas the expression of miR-548j-5p was significantly decreased.A negative correlation between the levels of miR-548j-5p and IL-17A was also *** vitro ex-periments showed that overexpression of miR-548j-5p led to a decrease in IL-17A levels,whereas downregulation of miR-548j-5p showed the opposite *** a dual luciferase assay,we confirmed that miR-548j-5p directly targets ***,serum containing SMYA effectively decreased IL-17A levels by increasing the expression of *** importantly,the results of in vivo tests indicated that SMYA mitigated the development of TAO by inhibiting IL-17A through the upregulation of miR-548j-5p in vascular *** conclusion,SMYA significantly enhances the expression of miR-548j-5p,thereby reducing the levels of the target gene IL-17A and alleviating *** research not only identifies novel targets and pathways for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of TAO but also advances the innovation in traditional Chinese medicine through the elucidation of the SMYA/miR-548j-5p/IL-17A regulatory axis in the pathogenesis of TAO.

This paper studies the synchronization for Lur’e differential inclusion system with input saturation. The set-valued mapping in the differential inclusion is assumed to be upper semi-continuous, closed, convex, bounded and monotone. The saturated control law is constructed to make the error system locally asymptotically stable, and then the maximal domain of attraction is estimated for the error system. A numerical example is provided to show the validation of the proposed method.

3D printing encouraging desired in-situ polypyrrole seed-polymerization for ultra-high energy density supercapacitors

The tireless pursuit of supercapacitors with high energy density entails the parallel advancement of wellsuited electrode materials and elaborately engineered ***(PPy)emerges as an exceedingly conductive polymer and a prospective pseudocapacitive materials for supercapacitors,yet the inferior cyclic stability and unpredictable polymerization patterns severely impede its real-world ***,for the first time,an innovative seed-induced in-situ polymerization assisted 3D printing strategy is proposed to fabricate PPy-reduced graphene oxide/poly(vinylidene difluoride-cohexafluoropropylene)(PVDF-HFP)(PPy-rGO/PH)electrodes with controllable polymerization behavior and exceptional areal mass *** preferred active sites uniformly pre-planted on the 3D-printed graphene substrates serve as reliable seeds to induce efficient polypyrrole deposition,achieving an impressive mass loading of 185.6 mg cm^(-2)(particularly 79.2 mg cm^(-2)for polypyrrole)and a superior areal capacitance of 25.2 F cm^(-2)at 2 mA cm^(-2)for a 12-layer *** agreement with theses appealing features,an unprecedented areal energy density of 1.47 mW h cm^(-2)for a symmetrical device is registered,a rarely achieved value for other PPy/rGO-based *** work highlights a promising route to preparing high energy density energy storage modules for real-world applications.

该文研究了中频400~800Hz条件下纵磁真空灭弧室内的磁场特性,利用Ansys Maxwell求解了三维瞬态纵向磁场分布。由计算结果可知:在电流变化的过程中,中心区域纵向磁场的变化明显滞后于其他区域。电流峰值时在触头片开槽交错放置的位置有磁场峰值区域,电流过零时中心区域有明显剩磁。当频率增加时,涡流效应更明显,使纵向磁场的磁感应强度值减弱。对中心点,频率提高导致过零时剩磁增加,磁场滞后相位更明显,影响电弧扩散。增加触头片开槽数可以减弱涡流效应,而增加触头杯座槽旋转角,触头中间平面磁感应强度的最大值近似线性增加。文中通过分析电弧形态和电压等实验结果验证了磁场滞后对真空灭弧室的开断能力的影响。

Genome mining of sulfonated lanthipeptides reveals unique cyclic peptide sulfotransferases

Although sulfonation plays crucial roles in various biological processes and is frequently utilized in medicinal chemistry to improve water solubility and chemical diversity of drug leads,it is rare and underexplored in ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides(RiPPs).Biosynthesis of RiPPs typically entails modification of hydrophilic residues,which substantially increases their chemical stability and bioactivity,albeit at the expense of reducing water *** explore sulfonated RiPPs that may have improved solubility,we conducted co-occurrence analysis of RiPP class-defining enzymes and sulfotransferase(ST),and discovered two distinctive biosynthetic gene clusters(BGCs)encoding both lanthipeptide synthetase(LanM)and *** expressing these BGCs,we characterized the structures of novel sulfonated lanthipeptides and determined the catalytic details of LanM and *** demonstrate that SslST-catalyzed sulfonation is leader-independent but relies on the presence of A ring formed by *** LanM and ST are promiscuous towards residues in the A ring,but ST displays strict regioselectivity toward *** recognition of cyclic peptide by ST was further *** evaluation underscores the significance of the ST-catalyzed *** study sets up the starting point to engineering the novel lanthipeptide STs as biocatalysts for hydrophobic lanthipeptides improvement.

A proteomic landscape of pharmacologic perturbations for functional relevance

Pharmacological perturbation studies based on protein-level signatures are fundamental for drug discovery. In the present study, we used a mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomic platform to profile the whole proteome of the breast cancer MCF7 cell line under stress induced by 78 bioactive compounds. The integrated analysis of perturbed signal abundance revealed the connectivity between phenotypic behaviors and molecular features in cancer cells. Our data showed functional relevance in exploring the novel pharmacological activity of phenolic xanthohumol, as well as the noncanonical targets of clinically approved tamoxifen, lovastatin, and their derivatives. Furthermore, the rational design of synergistic inhibition using a combination of histone methyltransferase and topoisomerase was identified based on their complementary drug fingerprints. This study provides rich resources for the proteomic landscape of drug responses for precision therapeutic medicine.
