AIM:To access the agreement of intraocular pressure(IOP)values obtained from biomechanically corrected tonometer[Corvis ST(CST)],non-contact tonometer(NCT),and Goldmann applanation tonometer(GAT)in children with NCT measured-IOP(NCT-IOP)values of 22 mm Hg or more,and related factors.METHODS:A total of 51 eyes with NCT-IOP≥22 mm Hg in children aged 7 to 14y were examined and IOP was measured by CST,NCT,and GAT.Based on GAT measured IOP(GAT-IOP),ocular hypertension(OHT)group(≥22 mm Hg,24 eyes)and the non-OHT group(xial length(AL),optic disc rim volume,and age.RESULTS:Compared with the OHT group,thicker CCT,larger rim volume,and higher differences between NCTIOP and GAT-IOP,were found in the non-OHT group.The differences between CST-IOP and GAT-IOP were lower than the differences between NCT-IOP and GAT-IOP in both groups.The mean differences in CST-IOP and GAT-IOP were 1.26 mm Hg(95%limit of agreement ranged from 0.1 to 2.41 mm Hg,OHT group)and 1.20 mm Hg(95%limit of agreement ranged from-0.5 to 3.00 mm Hg,non-OHT group),and the mean differences in NCT and GAT were 3.90 mm Hg(95%limit of agreement ranged from-0.19 to 9.70 mm Hg,OHT group)and 6.00 mm Hg(95%limit of agreement ranged from 1.50 to 10.50 mm Hg,non-OHT group).The differences between CST-IOP and GAT-IOP were not related to CCT,age,and AL in both groups;while the differences between NCT-IOP and GAT-IOP were related to CCT in the OHT group(r=0.93,P<0.001)and to CCT and AL in the non-OHT group(r=0.66,P<0.001,r=-0.81,P<0.001).CONCLUSION:The accuracy of NCT in the diagnosis of pediatric OHT is low.The agreement of CST-IOP and GATIOP was significantly higher in children with and without OHT than in those with NCT-IOP and GAT-IOP.Therefore,CST can be used as a good alternative for IOP measurement in children.The impac

In this paper,ordered mesoporous alumina(OMA)support with the high surface area(328 m^(2)g^(-1))and the large pore volume 0.74(cm^(3)·g^(-1))was synthesized by homogeneous precipitation method.And the influence of EDTA on the physical and chemical properties of the modified catalysts was also studied.The characteristic results showed that the addition of EDTA could adjust the metal-support interaction and improved the acidity of the corresponding catalyst.Combined with the catalytic performance results,the EDTA-modified Ni Mo E(1.0)/OMA catalyst displays the highest DBT hydrodesulfurization conversion(97.7%).

Long-term observation on safety and visual quality of implantable collamer lens V4c implantation for myopia correction:a 5-year follow-up

AIM:To elucidate the safety and visual quality of implantable collamer lens with central hole(ICL V4c)implantation for correcting moderate and high myopia for at least 5y.METHODS:This retrospective study was conducted on 58 patients(114 eyes)who were followed up for at least 5y after ICL V4c implantation.The observation was done before and on 1d,1mo,1 and 5y or more after the surgical procedure.The visual acuity,subjective refraction,intraocular pressure,vault,axial length,central hole position,pupil diameter,visual quality,and adverse events were analyzed.The visual quality includes aberration,the modulation transfer function cutoff frequency(MTF cutoff),objective scattering index(OSI),Stroller's ratio(SR),and visual quality questionnaire.RESULTS:The average follow-up period was 69.25±3.80mo(range 60–82mo)and the preoperative spherical equivalent(SE)was-8.66±1.97 D.At 5y after operation,the safety index was 1.01±0.02 and the efficacy index was 0.99±0.42 and SE was-0.65±0.63 D.The 59.6%of the eyes achieved an uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/20,76.3%of the eyes had SE within±1.0 D at the last visit.The axial length increased by 0.29±0.71 mm 5y after the surgery(t=-3.843,Pxial length still needs attention after surgery.

Synthesis of Anti-Pancreatic Cancer Natural Product Majusculamide D and Analogues Reveals a Preliminary Structure-Activity Relationships

The total synthesis of majusculamide D(1)was achieved from commercially available materials.In addition,we synthesized eight analogues including three stereoisomers of majusculamide D that differ in the fatty acid chain.Six analogues including a simplified analogue 29 exhibited significant nanomolar-level IC50 values against Panc-1 cells in MTT assays.A preliminary SAR analysis indicated that the hydroxyl group at C10 and C2−C3 unsaturated double bond of majusculamide D were essential in maintaining the high activity against Panc-1 cells and the orientation of C40-Me and C42-Me groups was tolerable.

A review of the neurotransmitter system associated with cognitive function of the cerebellum in Parkinson's disease

The dichotomized brain system is a concept that was generalized from the‘dual syndrome hypothesis’to explain the heterogeneity of cognitive impairment,in which anterior and posterior brain systems are independent but partially overlap.The dopaminergic system acts on the anterior brain and is responsible for executive function,working memory,and planning.In contrast,the cholinergic system acts on the posterior brain and is responsible for semantic fluency and visuospatial function.Evidence from dopaminergic/cholinergic imaging or functional neuroimaging has shed significant insight relating to the involvement of the cerebellum in the cognitive process of patients with Parkinson’s disease.Previous research has reported evidence that the cerebellum receives both dopaminergic and cholinergic projections.However,whether these two neurotransmitter systems are associated with cognitive function has yet to be fully elucidated.Furthermore,the precise role of the cerebellum in patients with Parkinson’s disease and cognitive impairment remains unclear.Therefore,in this review,we summarize the cerebellar dopaminergic and cholinergic projections and their relationships with cognition,as reported by previous studies,and investigated the role of the cerebellum in patients with Parkinson’s disease and cognitive impairment,as determined by functional neuroimaging.Our findings will help us to understand the role of the cerebellum in the mechanisms underlying cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease.

Acupuncture and moxibustion for irritable bowel syndrome:An umbrella systematic review

BackgroundIrritable bowel syndrome(IBS)is a functional bowel disease characterized by abdominal pain or discomfort associated with altered bowel habits.Several clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS.Many systematic reviews of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS have been published in recent years,but their results are not entirely consistent.ObjectiveTo evaluate the methodological,reporting,and evidence quality of systematic reviews of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS.Search strategySystematic reviews of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS published before February 20,2023 were searched in eight databases:PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang Data,VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals,and China Biology Medicine.The keywords used for literature search were acupuncture,moxibustion,systematic review,meta-analysis,and irritable bowel syndrome.Inclusion criteriaSystematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials of acupuncture and moxibustion for IBS were included.Data extraction and analysisRelevant information was independently extracted by two investigators.The A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews 2(AMSTAR 2),Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA 2020),and Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development and Evaluation(GRADE)were used to evaluate the methodological quality,reporting quality and evidence quality,respectively.ResultsA total of 342 studies were retrieved and 15 systematic reviews were included.The results of AMSTAR 2 showed low methodological quality in 2 studies and very low methodological quality in the remaining 13 studies,with main issues being failure to register a protocol,incomplete search strategy,not providing a list of excluded studies,incomplete consideration of the risk of bias in the included studies,and a failure to assess the publication bias.The results of PRISMA 2020 showed seriously deficient reportin

A four-band index for both liquid and solid water and its applications in the Aral Sea Basin

Various investigations have been conducted to analyze the water-coverage area of the Aral Sea and the Aral Sea Basin(ASB). However, the investigations incorporated considerable uncertainty and the used water indices had misclassification problem, which made different research groups present different results. Thus we first ascertain the boundaries of the ASB, the Syr and Amu river basins as well as their upper, middle and lower reaches. Then a four-band index for both liquid and solid water(ILSW) is proposed to address the misclassification problems of the classic water indices. ILSW is calculated by using the reflectance values of the green, red, near infrared, and thermal infrared bands, which combines the normalized difference water index(NDWI) and land surface temperature(LST) together. Validation results show that the ILSW water index has the highest accuracy by far in the Aral Sea Basin. Our results indicate that annual average decline of the water-coverage area was 963 km^(2) in the southern Aral Sea, whereas the northern Aral Sea has experienced little change. In the meanwhile, permanent ice and snow in upper reach of ASB has retreated considerably. Annual retreating rates of the permanent ice and snow were respectively 6233and 3841 km^(2) in upper reaches of Amu river basin(UARB) and Syr river basin(USRB). One of major reasons is that climate has become warmer in ASB. The climate change has caused serious water deficit problem. The water deficit had an increasing trend since the 1990s and its increasing rates was 3.778 billion m^(3) yearly on average. The total water deficit was 76.967 billion m^(3) on average in the whole area of ASB in the 2010s. However, up reaches of Syr river basin(USRB), a component area of ASB, had water surplus of 25.461 billion m^(3). These conclusions are useful for setting out a sustainable development strategy in ASB.

Bio-screening and quantification of methyl paraben in vinegar and coconut juice separated by HPTLC

As a widely used food preservative,methyl paraben was experimentally evidenced with serious hormonelike adverse effects.Herein,a high performance thin-layer chromatography platformed bioluminescent bioautography and image analysis for the selective quantification and confirmation of methyl paraben was proposed and validated in vinegar and coconut juice.First,the detectability of the bioautography to the analyte on different layer materials was estimated,revealing that normal silica gel was the best choice.After that,the liquid of sample extract and working solution were separated to overcome the background noises due to co-extracted matrices.The separation result was then coupled to the optimized bioautography,enabling instant and straightforward screening of the targeted conpound.For accurate quantification,bioluninescent inhibition pattern caused by the analyte was processed by image analysis,giving useful sensitivity(LOD>16 mg/kg),precision(RSD<10.1%)and accuracy(spike-recovery rate 76.9%-112.2%).Finally,the suspected result was confirmed by determining its MS fingerprint,further strengthening the reliability of screening.

Adverse effects of exposure to fine particles and ultrafine particles in the environment on different organs of organisms

Particulate pollution is a global risk factor that seriously threatens human health.Fine particles(FPs)and ultrafine particles(UFPs)have small particle diameters and large specific surface areas,which can easily adsorb metals,microorganisms and other pollutants.FPs and UFPs can enter the human body in multiple ways and can be easily and quickly absorbed by the cells,tissues and organs.In the body,the particles can induce oxidative stress,inflammatory response and apoptosis,furthermore causing great adverse effects.Epidemiological studies mainly take the population as the research object to study the distribution of diseases and health conditions in a specific population and to focus on the identification of influencing factors.However,the mechanism by which a substance harms the health of organisms is mainly demonstrated through toxicological studies.Combining epidemiological studies with toxicological studies will provide a more systematic and comprehensive understanding of the impact of PM on the health of organisms.In this review,the sources,compositions,and morphologies of FPs and UFPs are briefly introduced in the first part.The effects and action mechanisms of exposure to FPs and UFPs on the heart,lungs,brain,liver,spleen,kidneys,pancreas,gastrointestinal tract,joints and reproductive system are systematically summarized.In addition,challenges are further pointed out at the end of the paper.This work provides useful theoretical guidance and a strong experimental foundation for investigating and preventing the adverse effects of FPs and UFPs on human health.
