To explore the relationship between such a construct and an existing continence score. meTHODSA retrospective study of incontinent patients who underwent anal physiology (AP) was performed. AP results and Cleveland Clinic Continence Scores (CCCS) were extracted. An anal physiology score (APS) was developed using maximum resting pressures (mRP), anal canal length (ACL), internal and external sphincter defects and pudendal terminal motor latency. Univariate associations between each variable, APS and CCCS were assessed. multiple regression analyses were performed. ReSULTSOf 508 (419 women) patients, 311 had both APS and CCCS measured. Average mRP was 51 mmHg (SD 23.2 mmHg) for men and 39 mmHg (19.2 mmHg) for women. Functional ACL was 1.7 cm for men and 0.7 cm for women. Univariate analyses demonstrated significant associations between CCCS and mRP (P = 0.0002), ACL (P = 0.0006) and pudendal neuropathy (P e association between APS and CCCS was significant (P ed for only 9.2% of the variability in CCCS. multiple regression showed that the variables most useful in predicting CCCS were external sphincter defect, pudendal neuropathy and previous pelvic surgery, but only improving the scores predictive ability to 12.5%. CONCLUSIONThis study shows that the ability of AP tests to predict continence scores improves when considered collectively, but that a constructed summation model before and after multiple regression is poor at predicting the variability in continence scores.

An experiment of impact between 450 m/s water jets and polymethylme- thacrylate (PmmA) materials with complex surface geometry was conducted. The testing surfaces were a corner, step change, surface-breaking notch, inclined surface, etc. Stress waves propagation in the solid such as reflection, interference and diffraction was observed using polarized optics and an Imacon high speed camera (operating at both of 106 and 5×105 framing rates per second, fps). A damage test by the impact of the side jetting of an 850 m/s water jet was also carried out. It was found that stress waves propagation in solids depends not only on the surface geometry but also on the contact situation between liquid and solid. It was shown that the side jetting has sufficient damage potential although its head may consist of finer droplets. The results of this paper are useful to further analyze the dynamic stress state of solids under high-speed liquid impact.

The effect of temperature on the electrical conductivity(σ)and Seebeck coefficient(S)of n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers(CNFs)and poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF)melt-mixed with 15 wt%of those CNFs is *** 40°C,the CNFs show stable n-type character(S=-4.8μV·K^(-1))with anσof ca.165 S·m^(-1),while the PVDF/CNF composite film shows anσof ca.9 S·m^(-1)and near-zero S(S=-0.5μV·K^(-1)).This experimental reduction in S is studied by the density functional tight binding(DFTB)method revealing a contact electron transfer from the CNFs to the PVDF in the ***,in the temperature range from 40°C to 100°C,theσ(T)of the CNFs and PVDF/CNF film,successfully described by the 3D variable range hopping(VRH)model,is explained as consequence of a thermally activated backscattering *** the contrary,the S(T)from 40°C to 100°C of the PVDF/CNF film,which satisfactorily matches the model proposed for some multi-walled carbon nanotube(mWCNT)doped mats;however,it does not follow the increase in S(T)found for *** these findings are presented with the aim of discerning the role of these n-type vapor grown carbon nanofibers on theσand S of their melt-mixed polymer composites.

Horticulturists are interested in evaluating how cultivar,environment,or production system inputs can affect postharvest *** mass spectrometry approaches enable analysis of minimally processed samples under ambient conditions and offer an attractive high-throughput alternative for assessing quality characteristics in plant ***,we evaluate direct analysis in real time(DART-mS)mass spectrometry and rapid evaporative ionization-mass spectrometry(ReImS)to assess quality characteristics in various pepper(Capsicum annuum L.)***-mS exhibited the ability to discriminate between pod colors and pungency based on chemical fingerprints,while ReImS could distinguish pepper market class(e.g.,bell,lunchbox,and popper).Furthermore,DART-mS analysis resulted in the putative detection of important bioactive compounds in human diet such as vitamin C,p-coumaric acid,and *** results of this study demonstrate the potential for these approaches as accessible and reliable tools for high throughput screening of pepper quality.

In this work we have conducted a study on the radiative and spectroscopic properties of the radiative precursor and the post-shock region from experiments with radiative shocks in xenon performed at the Orion laser facility. The study is based on post-processing of radiation-hydrodynamics simulations of the experiment. In particular, we have analyzed the thermodynamic regime of the plasma, the charge state distributions, the monochromatic opacities and emissivities, and the specific intensities for plasma conditions of both regions. The study of the intensities is a useful tool to estimate ranges of electron temperatures present in the xenon plasma in these experiments and the analysis performed of the microscopic properties commented above helps to better understand the intensity spectra. Finally, a theoretical analysis of the possibility of the onset of isobaric thermal instabilities in the post-shock has been made, concluding that the instabilities obtained in the radiative-hydrodynamic simulations could be thermal ones due to strong radiative cooling.

‘Stent versus stent＇ studies are a kind of randomized trials which are designed to show the superiority of the new stent designs compared with the previously approved ones. These studies are usually used by regulatory agencies, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration （FDA）, to give an approval to new stent designs. The problem with these clinical trials is their high cost and difficulty. In this paper, a numerical alternative for ＇stent versus stent＇ complicated clinical studies is presented. A finite element model is developed to investigate the influence of stent design on the outcome after coronary stent placement. Two commercially available stents （the NIR and multi-Link stents） are modeled and their behavior during the deployment is compared in terms of stress distribution, radial gain, outer diameter changes and foreshortening. moreover, the effect of stent design on the restenosis rate is investigated by comparing the stress distribution within the arteries. An analysis of the arterial wall stresses in the stented arteries indicates that the multi-Link stent design causes lower stress to an atherosclerotic vessel with a localized stenotic lesion compared to the slotted tube NIR design. The findings correlate with the observed clinical restenosis rates, which have reported higher restenosis rates in the NIR compared with the multi- Link stent design.

This paper presents the temperature dependence measurements characterisation of several InAs/GaAs quantum dots （QDs） solar cell devices. The devices with cylindrical geometry were fabricated and characterised on-wafer under 20 suns in a temperature range from 300°K to 430°K. The temperature dependence parameters such as open circuit voltage, short circuit density current, fill factor and efficiency are studied in detail. The increase of temperature produces an enhancement of the short circuit current. However, the open circuit voltage is degraded because the temperature increases the recombination phenomena involved, as well as reducing the effective band gap of the semiconductor.
