This paper describes the design and implementation of a hydraulic circuit design system using case-based reasoning (CBR) paradigm from AI community The domain of hydraulic circuit design and case-based reasoning are briefly reviewed Then a proposed methodology in compuer-aided circuit design and dynamic leaning with the use of CBR is described Finally an application example is selected to illustrate the ussfulness of applying CBR in hydraulic circuit design with leaming.

Background and Study Aims: The aim of this study was to assess the safety and usefulness of capsule endoscopy (Ce) in pediatric patients with a suspicion of C rohn’s disease. Patients and methods: Ce was used in 12 patients (four girls, e ight boys; age 12-16; weight range 43-87kg). The indication was a clinical sus picion of Crohn’s disease not confirmed with traditional methods. Gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and small-bowel follow-through examinations were carried out in a ll of the patients, without any diagnostic findings. Ileoscopy was possible in 5 0%of the patients, and the ileal mucosa and biopsies were normal in all cases. Results: The capsule was easily swallowed by all of the patients. They all excre ted the capsule normally, and no complications were observed in any case. Ce ide nti-fied lesions suggestive of Crohn’s disease in seven of the 12 (58.3%), an d the.m.j.rity of the lesions were in the ileum. Conclusions: Ce is safe in pediatric patients over 12 years of age. The procedure appears to be a very useful diagnostic tool in children with Crohn’s disease.

Thermally grown surface oxide layers dominate the single-asperity tribological behavior of a Zr60Cu30Al10 *** in oxidation time leads to an increased contribution of shearing and a corresponding decreased contribution of ploughing to *** change in the dominating friction and wear mechanism results in an overall minor decrease of the friction coefficient of oxidized surfaces compared to the metallic glass sample with native surface *** results demonstrate the importance of creating a stable oxide layer for practical applications of metallic glasses in micro-devices involving sliding contact.

Objective. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis is a common cause of hospitalizations in children and has been increasingly identified as a risk factor in the development of asthma. Little is known about what determines the severity of RSV bronchiolitis, which may be helpful in the initial assessment of these children. Design. We evaluated a variety of environmental and host factors that may contribute to the severity of RSV bronchiolitis in the RSV Bronchiolitis in early Life prospective cohort study. Severity of bronchiolitis was based on the quantization of lowest O2 saturation and the length of stay. These factors included the child’s and family’s demographics, presence of household allergens (dust mite, cat, dog, and cockroach), peripheral blood eosinophil count, immunoglobulin e level, infant feeding, prior illnesses, exposure to intrauterine and postnatal cigarette smoke, and family history of atopy. Patients. We prospectively enrolled 206 hospitalized infants, all under 12 months old (4.0 ±3.3 months old), with their first episode of severe RSV bronchiolitis (mean O2 saturation: 91.6 ±7.3%; length of stay: 2.5±2.5 days; presence of radiographic opacities: 75%). Patients were excluded for a variety of reasons including previous wheezing, regular use of bronchodilator or antiinflammatory medications, any preexisting lung disease including asthma, chronic lung disease of prematurity/bronchopulmonary dysplasia, or cystic fibrosis; gastroesophageal reflux disease on medical therapy; or congenital anomalies of the chest or lung. Results. Age was found to be a significant factor in the severity of infection. The younger an infant was, the more severe the infection tended to be as measured by the lowest oxygen (O2) saturation. We also found that infants exposed to postnatal cigarette smoke from the mother had a lower O2 saturation than those not exposed. La_(0.7)Ca_(0.3)mnO_(3)(LCmO)thin films have been grown on mgO substrate using the metal organic deposition *** lattice mismatch between LCmO and mgO is relatively large around 8.14% imposing large inplane-tensile strain and out-of-plane-compressive strain on the *** the structural,microstructural and electrical properties have been found to be strongly correlated to the strain degree and ***-section transmission electron microscopy observations demonstrate the presence of microstructural defects due to the large lattice mismatch between the LCmO and *** addition to structural and microstructural defects,X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy measurements show the existence of a minor phase of mnO in the *** versus temperature measurement show a relatively low Curie temperature around 75 *** electrical behavior is found to be semiconducting over a large temperature *** electrical transport mechanisms have been investigated using the small polaron hopping and variable range hopping models and correlated to their microstructural properties.

IrO2 and IrRuOx(Ir:Ru 60:40 at%),supported by 50 wt%onto titania nanotubes(TNTs)and(3 at%Nb)Nb-doped titania nanotubes(Nb-TNTs),as electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction(OeR),were synthesized and characterized by means of structural,surface analytical and electrochemical *** doping of titania significantly increased the surface area of the support from 145(TNTs)to 260 m2g-1(Nb-TNTs),which was significantly higher than those of the Nb-doped titania supports previously reported in the *** surface analytical techniques showed good dispersion of the catalysts onto the *** X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses showed that Nb was mainly in the form of Nb(IV)species,the suitable form to behave as a donor introducing free electrons to the conduction band of *** redox transitions of the cyclic voltammograms,in agreement with the XPS results,were found to be *** the supported materials presented bigger crystallite sizes than the unsupported ones,the total number of active sites of the former was also higher due to their better catalyst *** the outer and the total charges of the cyclic voltammograms in the range 0.1–1.4 V,stability and electrode potentials at given current densities,the preferred catalyst was Ir O2 supported on the *** electrode potentials corresponding to given current densities were between the smallest ones given in the literature despite the small oxide loading used in this work and its Nb doping,thus making the Nb-TNTs-supported IrO2 catalyst a promising candidate for the *** good dispersion of IrO2,high specific surface area of the Nb-doped supports,accessibility of the electroactive centers,increased stability due to Nb doping and electron donor properties of the Nb(IV)oxide species were considered the main reasons for its good performance.

BACKGROUND: Selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in hibitors have come under s crutiny because of reports su- ggesting an increased cardiovascular risk associated with their use. experimen tal research suggesting that these drugs may contribute to a prothrombotic state providessupport for this concern . meTHODS: We reviewed all potentially serious cardiovascular events among 2035 patients with a history of colorectal neoplasia who were enrolled in a trial com paring two doses of celecoxib (200 mg or 400 mg twice daily) with placebo for th e prevention of colorectal adenomas. All deaths were categorized as cardiovascul ar or noncardiovascular, and nonfatal cardiovascular events were categorized in a blinded fashion according to a prespecified scheme. ReSULTS: For all patients except those who died, 2.8 to 3.1 years of follow-up data were available. A com posite cardiovascular end point of death from cardiovascular causes, myocardial infarction, stroke, or heart failure was reached in 7 of 679 patients in the pla cebo group (1.0 percent), as compared with 16 of 685 patients receiving 200 mg o f celecoxib twice daily (2.3 percent; hazard ratio, 2.3; 95 percent confidence i nterval, 0.9 to 5.5) and with 23 of 671 patients receiving 400 mg of celecoxib t wice daily (3.4 percent; hazard ratio, 3.4; 95 percent confidence interval,1.4 t o 7.8). Similar trends were observed for other composite end points. On the basi s of these observations,the data and safety monitoring board recommended early d iscontinuation of the study drug. CONCLUSIONS: Celecoxib use was associated with a dose-related increase in the composite end point of death from cardiovascula r causes, myocardial infarction, stroke, or heart failure. In light of recent re ports of cardiovascular harm associated with treatment with other agents in this class, these data provide further evidence that the use of COX-2 inhibitors ma y increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events.
