This work aims to develop simulation models that allow locating adequate areas for forest plantations in the state of Mexico. It combines multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) techniques and geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze and simulate future scenarios for forest plantations under three major objectives: commercial production, restoration and protection, and agroforestry. Results demonstrate the potential of this method to integrate different variables of social, economic and environmental nature, and for solve some problems of forest activities and management by locating the most suitable areas for this forestal activity.

Forest fire is one of the major causes of forest loss and therefore one of the main constraints for sustainable forest management *** the driving factors and understanding the contribution of each factor are essential for the management of forest fire *** objective of this study is to identify variables that are spatially related to the occurrence and incidence of the forest fire in the State of Durango,*** this purpose,data from forest fire records for a five-year period were *** spatial correlations between forest fire occurrence and intensity of land use,susceptibility of vegetation,temperature,precipitation and slope were tested by Geographically Weighted Regression(GWR) method,under an Ordinary Least Square *** show that the spatial pattern of the forest fire in the study area is closely correlated with the intensity of land use,and land use change is one of the main explanatory *** addition,vegetation type and precipitation are also the main driving *** fitting model indicates obvious link between the *** fire was found to be the consequence of a particular combination of the environmental factors,and when these factors coexist with human activities,there is high probability of forest fire *** regulation of human activities is a key strategy for forest fire prevention.

Forest Fires and Climate Correlation in Mexico State: A Report Based on MODIS

Forest fires are one of the most important threats for forests in the State of Mexico. Therefore, understanding their geographical patterns is a priority for the design of forest management strategies. We processed the records obtained with the MOD14A2 product (for thermal anomalies and fire) of MODIS sensor. Such scenes correspond to dry seasons (from March 15 to June 30) from 2000 to 2012 in the State of Mexico. We analyzed such records in a GIS environment to learn their spatial patterns and establish their geographical correlations as a first step to understand the causal agents of forest fires. As a result, forest fires in the State of Mexico showed a clustered spatial trend with a southwest tendency and a slight spatial relation with total winter precipitation and maximal temperature in summer.

Multi-Temporal Analysis of Land Subsidence in Toluca Valley (Mexico) through a Combination of Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) and Historical Piezometric Data

The Toluca Valley Aquifer (TVA) is considered one of the most overexploited aquifers in Mexico because of the high rate of groundwater extraction for supplying urban and industrial water to Mexico City and Toluca City, which causes land subsidence in urban and suburban areas. In this paper, we propose a multi-temporal analysis that uses persistent scatterer interferometry (PSI) method to evaluate the subsidence processes in Toluca Valley. The PSI results revealed differential movements of the ground of as much as 83 mm/year. A spatial variation of PSI results was identified with respect to previous studies using the conventional Din SAR methodology. The spatial distribution and density suggested the possibility of an expanding trend of subsidence process at north, northeast and east of the TVA, which corresponds to the region with the highest density of pumping wells for industrial and agricultural use.
