Experimental Study on Wire Melting Control Ability of Twin-Body Plasma Arc

The twin-body plasma arc has the decoupling control ability of heat transfer and mass transfer,which is beneficial to shape and property control in wire arc additive *** this paper,with the wire feeding speed as a characteristic quantity,the wire melting control ability of twin-body plasma arc was studied by adjusting the current separation ratio(under the condition of a constant total current),the wire current/main current and the position of the wire in the arc axial *** results showed that under the premise that the total current remains unchanged(100 A),as the current separation ratio increased,the middle and minimum melting amounts increased approximately synchronously under the effect of anode effect power,the first melting mass range remained constant;the maximum melting amount increased twice as fast as the middle melting amount under the effect of the wire feeding speed,and the second melting mass range was *** the wire current increased,the anode effect power and the plasma arc power were both factors causing the increase in the wire melting amount;however,when the main current increased,the plasma arc power was the only factor causing the increase in the wire melting *** average wire melting increment caused by the anode effect power was approximately 2.7 times that caused by the plasma arc *** minimum melting amount was not affected by the wire-torch distance under any current separation ratio *** the current separation ratio increased and reached a threshold,the middle melting amount remained constant with increasing wire-torch *** the current separation ratio continued to increase and reached the next threshold,the maximum melting amount remained constant with the increasing wire-torch *** effect of the wire-torch distance on the wire melting amount reduced with the increase in the current separation *** this study,the decoupling mechanism and ability of this innovative

Preparation of Fe_(3)Si and FeSi intermetallic compounds from copper slag by electrochemical method

Fe_(3)Si and FeSi intermetallic compounds were prepared by CaCl_(2)-NaCl melt electrolysis at 800℃from the non-magnetic copper slag *** phase transition of the cathode particles with different electrolysis voltages and durations was investigated by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy,inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction,and scanning electron *** results showed that Fe_(3)Si and FeSi intermetallic compounds can be obtained by one-step electrolysis for 10 h at 3.2 V and two-step electrolysis of 2.5 V for 4 h and 3.2 V for 6 ***,the current efficiency increased from 31.70%of one-step electrolysis to 39.87%of two-step *** formation of Fe_(3)Si and FeSi intermetallic compounds is a gradual evolution process with the increase in Si content,following the formation law of Fe→FeSi→Fe_(3)Si+FeSi→*** metallic impurities of the final product were 1.29 wt.%Mg and 3.85 wt.%Al,respectively.

It is with great sadness that I share the sorrowful news that mammalogy and wildlife science lost a respected scientist, patient teacher, and wonderful mentor on 10 February, 2016, when Professor Ying-Xiang Wang died in Kunming, Yunnan Province, due to heart failure following a lung infection. He is survived by his wife Professor Rui-Qing Liu, daughter Li Wang, son Tao Wang, daughter-in-law Qing Sun and granddaughter Jun-Qi Wang.

Numerical Investigation on the Influence of Nozzle Lip Thickness on the Flow Field and Performance of an Annular Jet Pump

The performance of an annular jet pump( AJP) is determined by its area ratio A( ratio of cross sectional area of throat and annular nozzle) and flow rate ratio q( ratio of primary and secondary flow rate,Qs/Qj),while the nozzle lip thickness is neglected in the present studies. This paper presents a study on the effect of the thickness on the flow field and performance of an AJP with A = 1. 75. With the increasing flow rate ratio and nozzle lip thickness,a small vortex forms at the nozzle lip and keeps on growing. However,as the flow rate ratio or nozzle lip thickness is extremely low,the vortex at the lip vanishes thoroughly. Moreover,the recirculation width varies conversely with the nozzle lip thickness when the flow rate ratio q ≤ 0. 13. While the deviation of the recirculation width with different nozzle lip thickness is negligible with q ≥ 0. 13. Additionally the existence of nozzle lip hinders the momentum exchange between the primary and secondary flow and leads to a mutation of velocity gradient near the nozzle exit,which shift the recirculation downstream. Finally,based on the numerical results of the streamwise and spanwise vortex distributions in the suction chamber, the characteristics of the mixing process and the main factors accounting for the AJP performance are clarified.

Patterns of human-wildlife conflict and compensation practices around Daxueshan Nature Reserve, China

Understanding the spatial patterns of human-wildlife conflict is essential to inform management decisions to encourage coexistence, but it is constrained by the lack of spatially-explicit data. We collected spatially-implicit data of human-wildlife conflicts from 2009-2015 around Daxueshan Nature Reserve, Yunnan, China, and investigated the patterns and drivers of these conflicts. A questionnaire was also designed to capture local resident attitudes toward insurance-based compensation for the losses caused by targeted wildlife. We found that the Asiatic black bear （Ursus thibetanus） was the most conflict-prone animal around the reserve, followed by the rhesus macaque （Macaca mulatta） and Southeast Asian sambar （Cervus equinus）. Conflicts were unevenly distributed among seasons, villages, and communities, with several grids identified as conflict hotspots. Poisson models revealed that human-bear conflicts were negatively related to distance to the reserve and proportion of forest, but positively correlated to the proportion of cropland. Binomial models showed that communities affected by crop depredation were positively correlated with the proportion of cropland and negatively correlated with distance to the reserve, whereas communities affected by livestock depredation were negatively correlated with the proportion of cropland. The insurance-based scheme has compensated over 90% of losses, to the satisfaction of 90.6% of respondents. Our results suggest that human-bear conflict could be potentially reduced by eliminating food crops near the reserve boundary and livestock grazing at conflict *** addition, the insurance-based scheme could be replicated at a broader scale with improvement in loss assessment.

A number of techniques exist for the separation of proteins, however, a separation technique that satisfies speed of analysis, selectivity, sensitivity, adequate throughput capacity, and affordable cost of analysis is unavailable yet.

Phase composition, morphology and element contents of micro-arc oxidation ceramic coatings on Ti–6Al–4V alloy under different calcination conditions

Compound ceramic coatings with the main crystalline of Al_2TiO_5（in the as-prepared coating without treatment） were prepared in situ on the surface Ti-6Al-4V alloy by means of pulsed bipolar micro-arc oxidation in Na AlO_2 solution. For the purpose of studying the antioxidation properties of the samples, the coated samples treated in argon and the as-coated samples were calcined in air at 1000 °C. And the related characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM） and X-ray fluorescence（XRF） spectroscopy, respectively. The results show that, when it was calcined in air for 1 h, Al_2TiO_5in the as-prepared coating decomposed and transformed into α-Al_2O_3 and rutile TiO_***, after almost 4 h in argon, Al_2TiO_5in the asprepared coating decomposed and the final coating surface contents are completely α-Al_2O_3, and those of the middle interface are mainly Al_2O_3 and Ti_2O_3. The morphologies of the coatings after calcination in argon and air are ***-temperature oxidation occurred violently in the alloy substrate without coatings. Furthermore, the weight gain curves of the as-prepared samples and the coated samples treated in argon both show a parabolic shape.

Penetration Estimation of GMA Backing Welding Based on Weld Pool Geometry Parameters

Penetration estimation is a prerequisite of the automation of backing welding based on vision sensing technology. However, the arc interference in welding process leads to the difficulties of extracting the weld pool characteristic information, which brings great challenges to the penetration estimation. At present, most researches focus on the extraction of weld pool geometry parameters, and the visual sensing systems are complex in structure and complicated in the image processing algorithms. The research of penetration estimation based on weld pool geometry parameters is still in the exploratory stage. The purpose of this paper is to research the relationship between the weld pool geometry parameters and the penetration during backing welding and to estimate penetration using the weld pool geometry parameters. A passive vision sensing test system for gas metal arc (GMA) backing welding was established. An image processing algorithm was developed to extract the weld pool geometry parameters, namely, the area, maximum width and length, half-length, length-width ratio and advancing contact angle (simplified as AWP, MWWP, MLWP, HLWP, LWR and ACA, respectively). The corresponding relationships between the weld pool geometry parameters and the penetration state were explored by analysing their changes with the welding current and speed. The distribution of the weld pool geometry parameters corresponding to penetration was determined. When the AWP of the weld pool is within a certain range and the values of LWR and ACA are close to their maximum and minimum respectively, the penetration is in good condition. A mathematical model with the weld pool geometry parameters as independent variables and the back-bead width (the indicator of the penetration state) as a dependent variable was established based on multivariable linear regression analysis, and relevant statistical tests were carried out.
