Oxygen atmosphere enhances ball milling remediation of petroleum-contaminated soil and reuse as adsorptive/catalytic materials for wastewater treatment

Ball milling is an environmentally friendly technology for the remediation of petroleumcontaminated soil(PCS),but the cleanup of organic pollutants requires a long time,and the post-remediation soil needs an economically viable disposal/reuse strategy due to its vast *** present paper develops a ball milling process under oxygen atmosphere to enhance PCS remediation and reuse the obtained carbonized soil(BCS-O)as wastewater treatment *** total petroleum hydrocarbon removal rates by ball milling under vacuum,air,and oxygen atmospheres are 39.83%,55.21%,and 93.84%,*** Langmuir and pseudo second-order models satisfactorily describe the adsorption capacity and behavior of BCS-O for transition *** Cu^(2+),Ni^(2+),and Mn^(2+)adsorbed onto BCS-O were mainly bound to metal carbonates and metal ***,BCS-O can effectively activate persulfate(PDS)oxidation to degrade aniline,while BCS-O loaded with transition metal(BCS-O-Me)shows better activation efficiency and ***-O and BCS-O-Me activated PDS oxidation systems are dominated by^(1)O_(2)oxidation and electron *** main active sites are oxygen-containing functional groups,vacancy defects,and graphitized *** oxygen-containing functional groups and vacancy defects primarily activate PDS to generate^(1)O_(2)and attack *** carbon promotes aniline degradation by accelerating electron *** paper develops an innovative strategy to simultaneously realize efficient remediation of PCS and sequential reuse of the postremediation soil.

Turbulent Agglomeration of Microparticles in a Cylinder Wake Flow Using LES-DEM:Focusing on the Effect of the Reynolds Number

Enhancing microbial superoxide generation and conversion to hydroxyl radicals for enhanced bioremediation using iron-binding ligands

Harnessing bacteria for superoxide production in bioremediation holds immense promise,yet its practical application is hindered by slow production rates and the relatively weak redox potential of *** study delves into a cost-effective approach to amplify superoxide production using an Arthrobacter strain,a prevalent soil bacterial *** research reveals that introducing a carbon source along with specific iron-binding ligands,including deferoxamine(DFO),diethylenetriamine pentaacetate(DTPA),citrate,and oxalate,robustly augments microbial superoxide ***,our findings suggest that these iron-binding ligands play a pivotal role in converting superoxide into hydroxyl radicals by modulating the electron transfer rate between Fe(Ⅲ)/Fe(Ⅱ)and ***,among the tested ligands,only DTPA emerges as a potent promoter of this conversion process when complexed with Fe(Ⅲ).We identify an optimal Fe(Ⅲ)to DTPA ratio of approximately 1:1 for enhancing hydroxyl radical production within the Arthrobacter *** research underscores the efficacy of simultaneously introducing carbon sources and DTPA in facilitating superoxide production and its subsequent conversion to hydroxyl radicals,significantly elevating bioremediation ***,our study reveals that DTPA augments superoxide production in cultures of diverse soils,with various soil microorganisms beyond Arthrobacter identified as contributors to superoxide *** emphasizes the universal applicability of DTPA across multiple bacterial *** conclusion,our study introduces a promising methodology for enhancing microbial superoxide production and its conversion into hydroxyl *** findings hold substantial implications for the deployment of microbial reactive oxygen species in bioremediation,offering innovative solutions for addressing environmental contamination challenges.

HMGB2 knockdown ameliorates retinal ganglion cell injury by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation after retinal ischemia

AIM:To explore the neuroprotective effects of high mobility group box 2(HMGB2)knockdown on retinal ganglion cells(RGCs)in the retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury(RIRI).METHODS:Oxygen-glucose deprivation(OGD)-injured RGCs from postnatal three-day C57BL/6 mice pups and high intraocular pressure(IOP)-induced RIRI mice were used as cellular and animal models of *** expression of HMGB2 in the retina of RIRI mice and OGD-injured RGCs was detected through reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR)and Western *** effects of HMGB2 silencing on the morphological changes,RGCs survival,and cell apoptosis in mouse retinal tissues were observed through H&E staining,immunofluorescence staining with RNA-binding protein with multiple splicing(RBPMS)antibody,and TUNEL staining,*** viability and apoptosis were examined by CCK-8 and flow cytometry *** levels of proteins associated with NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 3(NLRP3)-mediated pyroptosis[NLRP3,Caspase-1,GSDMD-N,interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-18]in vivo and in vitro were measured by Western ***:HMGB2 protein and NLRP3 were upregulated in the retina of RIRI mice and OGD-injured RGCs(P<0.001).The retina was edematous,accompanied by disorganized cell arrangement and decreased thickness of all layers,and obvious vacuoles in ganglion cell ***2 silencing alleviated the reduction in total retinal thickness and the severity of retinal tissue damage as well as suppressed RGC loss and retinal cell apoptosis in RIRI ***-induced RGC apoptosis was ameliorated after downregulation of HMGB2 in *** injection of the AAV-sh-HMGB2 and si-HMGB2 resulted in significantly decrease of NLRP3,Caspase-1,GSDMD-N,IL-1β,and IL-18 protein levels in the retinal tissues of RIRI mice and OGD-injured RGCs,respectively(all P<0.001).CONCLUSION:HMGB2 knockdown protects against RGC apoptosis and pyroptosis after RIRI through suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activ

Grounded-source short offset transient electromagnetic method:Theory and applications in deep mineral exploration

The Transient Electromagnetic(TEM)method is a critical geophysical technique for subsurface exploration of metal ore bodies,primarily utilizing either loop or grounded *** Long Offset Transient Electromagnetic(LOTEM)method employs a grounded-source transmitter,relying on a far-source observation mode and plane wave approximation for ***,LOTEM's far-source configuration weakens signal strength,and the plane wave approximation reduces precision,limiting effective detection depth to approximately 1000 m with a comprehensive error of about 15%.Recently,we have developed the grounded-source Short Offset Transient Electromagnetic(SOTEM)method,achieving greater detection depth and accuracy within the 500–2000 m depth range,a crucial interval for mineral resource *** study explores the theoretical framework,instrumentation,data processing,and field applications of *** on a point charge element model,SOTEM accurately computes surface wave effects in EM field calculations,optimized for near-source ***-power,high-resolution,wide-bandwidth exploration equipment and an advanced three-dimensional hybrid inversion technique were also developed to enhance the method's *** of SOTEM to the deep exploration of the Zhou'an Ni-Cu-PGE deposit in Henan Province yielded high-resolution imaging of conductivity structures to about 2.5 km *** results,consistent with existing drill data,delineated mineralized ore bodies from surrounding formations,identified zones of mineralization potential,and suggested extensive resource prospects in the region.

稀土离子La^(3+)掺杂的NiCo层状双金属氢氧化物纳米片具有高的超级电容器性能,比容量达到1115 F/g(1A/g)、倍率性能为517 F/g(30 A/g)。研究表明,La^(3+)离子掺杂不改变NiCo层状双金属氢氧化物晶体结构,但会显著影响其电子和离子传导特性,从而改变其电化学性能。根据离子电负性标度,La^(3+)(1.327)和Co^(2+)(1.377)离子的电负性值最接近,掺杂La^(3+)会优先取代Co^(2+)离子位置。由于La^(3+)离子的尺寸作用(106 pm),使得最优掺杂比例较小仅为0.26%,电化学结果表明较少的La^(3+)掺杂比例依然会显著调节NiCo层状双金属氢氧化物的电子/离子输运性质。

Spatiotemporal evolution of wildfire activity during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum in China

The Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum(PETM)was the most prominent warming event in the Cenozoic and serves as a geological analog for the current global warming driven by anthropogenic CO_(2)emissions from burning fossil *** a primary disruptor of Earth's ecosystems,wildfire activity affects the balance of ecosystems,the global carbon cycle,and climate ***,studying the evolution and driving mechanisms of wildfires during the PETM is essential for predicting wildfire activity under global warming scenarios and for understanding the carbon cycle in the context of wildfire *** research on wildfires during the PETM has mainly focused on the Northern Hemisphere,particularly Europe and North America,whereas studies on Chinese mainland remain *** this study,we analyzed black carbon(BC)concentration and carbon isotope(δ13C)in the Beigou section of the Nanyang Basin and the Xilutian section of the Fushun Basin to reconstruct the spatiotemporal evolution of wildfires in arid/semi-arid and humid *** integrated these findings with those of previous studies on the paleoclimate of the research area to elucidate the driving mechanisms behind wildfire *** results indicate that wildfire activity weakened at the onset of the PETM,with the negative carbon isotope period characterized by low wildfire activity,except for a brief resurgence in the Nanyang *** the recovery phase of the PETM,wildfire activity gradually increased,returning to the pre-PETM *** prolonged low wildfire state was likely caused by extremely high temperatures and precipitation as well as the resulting vegetation *** the PETM recovery phase,increased wildfire activity transformed“short-term carbon sinks”of the biological-atmospheric carbon cycle into“long-term carbon sinks”through the burial of *** process of carbon sink conversion may have acted as a negative feedback mechanism,contributing to carbon sequestration and the e
