The ever-increasing deepwater oil and gas development in the Qiongdongnan Basin,South China Sea has initiated the need to evaluate submarine debris-flow hazard risks to seafloor *** paper presents a case study on evaluating the debris-flow hazard risks to the planned pipeline systems in this *** used a numerical model to perform simulations to support this quantitative ***,one relict failure interpreted across the development site was *** back-analysis modeling was used to validate the applicability of the rheological ***,this model was applied to forecast the runout behaviors of future debris flows originating from the unstable upslope regions considered to be the most critical to the pipeline systems surrounding the Manifolds A and *** model results showed that the potential debris-flow hazard risks rely on the location of structures and the selection of rheological *** the Manifold B and connected pipeline systems,because of their remote distances away from unstable canyon flanks,the potential debris flows impose few ***,the pipeline systems around the Manifold A are exposed to significant hazard risks from future debris flows with selected rheological *** results are beneficial for the design of a more resilient pipeline route in consideration of future debris-flow hazard risks.

Diversion of the Yellow River is a unique geological event in offshore China,causing changes of the sedimentary environment in eastern China *** last diversion took place in AD 1855,with the estuary diverted from the Yellow Sea into the Bohai *** identification of the river diversion events in the shelf sediments would not only provide the definite ages for the sediments,but also give a clue for better understanding of the sedimentation in that *** this study,210 Pb,grain size,geochemical element,and foraminiferal data in core H205 from the north Yellow Sea were systematically investigated.A high-resolution sedimentary record was established,which was coupled with the Yellow River diversion and runoff *** results show that the foraminiferal composition and foraminiferal abundance of the sediments from the north Yellow Sea had good response to the Yellow River diversion in *** the change,shallow water assemblages dominated the foraminifera,and the abundance of each foraminiferal species was very *** the diversion event,the abundance of most foraminifera increased sharply,with a maximum increase of 16 times,and the assemblage was still dominated by shallow water ***,the changes in foraminiferal abundance in the core sediments corresponded well with the discharge fluctuation of the Yellow River since *** the Yellow River began entering the Bohai Sea,the Yellow River water,which is rich in nutrients,along with the coastal currents affected the north Yellow Sea,increased the primary productivity in the north Yellow Sea,which is the main reason for the abrupt increase and fluctuation of foraminiferal abundance in this *** the meantime,the East Asian winter monsoon could also promote the development of nearshore foraminiferal species by enhancing the coastal currents.

Typhoons in the western Pacific have a significant impact on the transport of heat,salt and particles through the Luzon ***,there are very limited field observations of this impact because of extreme difficulties and even dangers for ship-based measurements during the rough ***,we present the preliminary results from analyzing a dataset collected by a glider deployed west of the Luzon Strait a few days prior to the arrival of typhoon *** gilder data revealed an abnormally salinity(>34.8)subsurface water apparently sourced from Kuroshio intrusion during the *** typhoon MITAG traveled on the east of the Luzon Strait,the positive wind stress curl strengthened the cyclonic eddy and weakened the anti-cyclonic *** led to a slowdown of Kuroshio and made its intrusion *** main axis of the Kuroshio at the northern part of the strait shifted westward after the typhoon and did not return to its original position until a week *** Ekman transport from persistent northerly wind of typhoon MITAG was significant,but its importance in enhancing the Kuroshio intrusion is only secondary relative to the eddies variations.

Spatio-temporal Change and Carrying Capacity Evaluation of Human Coastal Utilization in Liaodong Bay,China from 1993 to 2015

In China, promoting the development of coastal areas has been included in a series of national strategic development *** the same time, many marine environmental problems have been associated with the rapid development of coastal sea use. In order to quantify the impact of human activities on the coast, the characteristics of coastlines and near-shore sea use of Liaodong Bay, Northeast China, were first classified using multi-source, remotely sensed imagery using automatic or semi-automatic extraction methods for five periods between 1993 and 2015. Sea use dynamics and coastline dynamics resulting from human activates were analyzed. Results showed a significant trend of continuous growth in sea use and a progressive increase in the total length of artificial coastline, but a noticeable loss of natural coastline during the five periods. Reclaimed land and enclosed areas were the main types of sea use. Most coastal human activities were distributed in the northern part of the bay. In recent years, rapid industrialization and urbanization in China's coastal areas have promoted large-scale land reclamation. Accordingly, the observed coastline changes during each period had a close relationship with coastal development and sea area utilization. Based on marine functional zoning(MFZ), the sea use carrying capacity was evaluated by means of indexes to describe human exploitation of the marine and coastal environments in the bay. This showed that the intensity of coastal utilization in Liaodong Bay has increased year-on-year. Sea use carrying capacity reached a ‘critically loaded'state by 2008 and was ‘overloaded' by 2015.

With global surge in reservoir construction over the past decades,river systems worldwide have been profoundly ***,flow manipulation by reservoirs has altered the natural hydrological processes,resulting in extensive modifications of fluvial-marine *** the adverse ecological consequences of reservoirs has become a global concern and has garnered increasing *** Yellow River,as one of the most extensively manipulated river systems globally,has experienced substantial changes in the amount and timing of water discharge due to the presence of numerous reservoirs scattered throughout its catchment *** alterations have caused physicochemical changes in the estuary and subsequent modifications to the estuarine *** recent years,the Yellow River Conservancy Committee initiated the release of water through the Xiaolangdi Dam during the major spawning period of fisheries,specifically in the spring,with the aim of improving the estuarine ecological *** 2011 to 2020,a total of 84.05 km^(3)of water was discharged from the Xiaolangdi Reservoir during spring seasons,of which 40%(33.16 km^(3))constituted water impounded within the reservoir during preceding ***,the spring water discharge from the Yellow River to the sea increased significantly from 1.50 km^(3)/yr to 3.46 km^(3)/yr in the past decade,leading to a decrease in estuarine salinity by 1.6 *** estuarine fishery resources,such as fish eggs in the Yellow River estuary,have demonstrated evident *** reservoir regulation in the Yellow River,which has successfully enhanced spring water discharge and subsequently restored estuarine fishery resources,presents an effective attempt for mitigating the adverse ecological effects associated with reservoirs.

Chromophoric dissolved organic matter(CDOM)strongly influences the water-leaving radiance from aquatic *** most inland waters,the remote determination of CDOM absorption presents a central challenge due to their complex optical ***,identifying the temporal and spatial variability of CDOM is fundamental to the understanding of aquatic biogeo-chemical *** the present study,semi-analytical and empirical modeling approaches were used to examine CDOM absorption in four,shallow,inland water bodies using the spectral bands and sensitivities of major satellite observational *** the models examined,an empirical multiband model was found to provide the highest correlation with measured CDOM *** spectral characteristics of the MERIS sensors yielded the best results with respect to the other available satellite *** detrital load was observed to be a major impediment to estimating CDOM absorption,while lakes with elevated phytoplankton biomass did not present similar problems.

Retrieval of Total Suspended Matters Using Field Spectral Data in Shitoukoumen Reservoir,Jilin Province,Northeast China

From August to October in 2006,three times of field spectral measurements with a Field Spec FR spectroradiometer(Analytical Spectral Devices,Inc.,USA) were carried out in Shitoukoumen Reservoir,Jilin Province,Northeast China. Owing to the serious soil and water loss in the upstream,reflectance curves of the reservoir were characterized by high concentrations of total suspended matter(TSM) . Extending the spectral analysis to 1200nm in the near-infrared band,this research revealed an obvious reflectance peak around 1070nm which was caused by the strong backscattering of high TSM. The method of partial least squares(PLS) regression was applied to retrieving the TSM. Reflectance in two spectral bands,i.e.,675-948nm and 1029-1105nm,were used as variables to develop PLS models. Traditional linear regression,first derivative model and logarithmic model were also used for the comparison of different models. Results showed that the PLS model based on Rrs(675) -Rrs(948) gave out best results with high precision and stability. Although the PLS model based on Rrs(1029) -Rrs(1105) did not have an outstanding performance due to lots of noise,the reflectance peak in the near-infrared band was an important TSM feature and its efficient exploitation would have a considerable significance in TSM remote sensing.

Coherent perfect absorption provides a method of light-controlling-light and has practical applications in optical communications. Recently, a cavity-based nonlinear perfect photon absorption extends the coherent perfect absorber（CPA）beyond the linear regime. As nanowire-based system is a more competitive candidate for full-optical device, we introduce a nonlinear CPA in the single two-level atom–nanowires coupling system in this work. Nonlinear input–output relations are derived analytically, and three contributions of atomic saturation nonlinearity are explicit. The consociation of optical nonlinearity and destructive interference makes it feasible to fabricate a nonlinear monoatomic CPA. Our results also indicate that a nonlinear system may work linearly even when the incoming lights are not weak any more. Our findings show promising applications in full-optical devices.
