Characterization of plastic flow in two Zr-based bulk metallic glasses

Plastic deformation behaviors of Zr65Al10Ni10Cu15 and Zr52.5Al10Ni10Cu15Be12.5 bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) are studied by using the depth-sensing nanoindentation, microindentation and uniaxial compression. The Be-containing BMG exhibits a signifi- cantly improved overall plastic strain compared with the Be-free alloy during compressive tests. Both BMGs show a loading-rate-dependent serrated flow during nanoindentation measurements, but the Be-containing alloy exhibits a much lower critical loading rate for the disappearance of the serration than the Be-free BMG. The shear band patterns de- veloped during plastic deformation are investigated by microindentation technique, wherein much higher shear band density is found in the Be-containing alloy than in the Be-free alloy, indicating an easier nucleation of shear bands in the former BMG. The dif- ference in the plastic deformation behavior of the two BMGs can be explained by a free volume model.

The deformation behavior and the ef- fect of the loading rate on the plastic deformation in Ce-based bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) were inves- tigated through nanoindentation tests. The results showed that the loading rate dependence of plastic deformation during nanoindentation measurements in the Ce-based BMGs is quite unique in contrast to that of other BMG alloys. The load-displacement (P-h) curves of Ce60Al15Cu10Ni15 BMG exhibit a homoge- neous plastic deformation at low loading rates, and a prominent serrated flow at high strain rates, whereas, the P-h curves of Ce65Al10Cu10Ni10Nb5 exhibit ho- mogenous plastic deformation at all studied loading rates. The room temperature creep behavior could clearly be observed in these two alloys. The mecha- nism of the unique plastic deformation feature in the Ce-based BMGs was studied.

As one of the three payloads for the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory(ASO-S)mission,the Lyman-alpha(Lyα)Solar Telescope(LST)is composed of three instruments:a Solar Corona Imager(sci),a LyαSolar Disk Imager(SDI)and a full-disk White-light Solar Telescope(WST).When working in-orbit,LST will simultaneously perform high-resolution imaging observations of all regions from the solar disk to the inner corona up to 2.5 R⊙(R⊙stands for the mean solar radius)with a spatial resolution of 4.8′′and 1.2.′for coronal and disk observations,respectively,and a temporal resolution of 3.–12. s and 1–12. s for coronal and disk observations,*** maximum exposure time can be up to2. s due to precise pointing and image stabilization *** the three telescopes of LST,sci is a dual-waveband coronagraph simultaneously and independently observing the inner corona in the HI Lyα(12..6±10 nm)line and white light(WL)(700±40 nm)wavebands by using a narrowband Lyαbeam splitter and has a field of view(FOV)from 1.1 to 2.5 R⊙.The stray-light suppression level can attain2.5 R⊙.SDI and WST are solar disk imagers working in the Lyαline and 3.0.0 nm wavebands,respectively,which adopt an off-axis two-mirror reflective structure with an FOV up to 1.2.R⊙,covering the inner coronal edge area and relating to coronal *** present the up-to-date design for the LST payload.
