Influence of lateral displacement on strip shape during cold rolling

The theory of metal plastic deformation is an important part of the strip shape control theories. In order to control the shape and gauge accurately during cold thin strip rolling, the mechanism of the metal lateral flow must be revealed clearly. Therefore, the lateral displacement of thin strip was studied by the grid method. Those grids with a line thickness of 10 μm and clear boundaries were successfully manufactured on the strip surface using lithography. Then, the effects of reduction, front and back tension, and taper angle of the first intermediate roll on the metal lateral flow were studied. The strip shape was calculated with and without considering the lateral displacement; furthermore, the calculations were compared with the measured results. The results show that the calculations with considering the lateral displacement are closer to the measured results. In addition, the comparison of finite element analysis results with the experimental results indicates that the test method was reliable.

Purpose It is a challenge for the primary hospitals to manage multiple trauma patients.In this article,we explored the advantage of establishing a surgical intensive care unit(SICU)predominant by cardiothoracic surgeons in the early management of multiple trauma.Methods This was a retrospective study and patients with multiple trauma in our hospital were collected and divided into two groups,based on time period and treat modes:group A(retrospective observation group)where patients were treated with the traditional treatment mode from January 2017 to December 2017 and group B(study group)where patients were treated in the SICU predominant by cardiothoracic surgeons from January 2018 to December 2018.Clinical data including demographics,injury severity score(ISS),causes of injury,time intervals from reception to entering SICU or operating room and mortality three days after injuries were collected.Data were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 software.Categorical variables were presented as number and/or frequency and continuous variables as mean±SD.Results Altogether 406 patients were included in this study,including 217 patients in group A and 189 patients in group B.General data between the two groups revealed no significant difference:mean age(years)(35.51±12.97 vs.33.62±13.61,p=0.631),gender distribution(mean/female,130/87 vs.116/73,p=0.589)and ISS(15.92±7.95 vs.16.16±6.89,p=0.698).Fall from height were the dominant mechanism of injury,with 135 cases in group A(71.4%)and 121 cases in group B(55.8%),followed by traffic accidents.Injury mechanism showed no significant differences between two groups(p=1.256).Introduction of the SICU significantly improved the care of trauma patients,regarding speed and mortality.Time intervals between reception and entering SICU or operating room was(108.23±6.72)min and(45.67±7.96)min in group A and B,respectively(p=0.001).Mortality three days after injuries was 13.89%and 5.53%in group A and B,respectively(p=0.005).Conclusion Establishing a SICU predominant by cardiothoracic surgeons can redu

This paper investigates the response of a maglev structure to three under-crossing tunnels of the Shanghai Metro Line 13.The minimal distance between the tunnels and pile groups of the maglev structure is only 1.5 m,thus the deformations of the maglev structure are strictly controlled for the serviceability of the operating maglev trains.The displacements of maglev piers and ground settlements during different tunnelling stages are monitored with an automatic measuring system.Based on the observed data,the ground settlement trough and displacements of maglev piers caused by the three shield tunnelling procedures are analyzed and discussed.The maximal ground settlement after the completion of the three tunnelling procedures is -43 mm.To operate the existing maglev safely,practical construction control methods are applied,including synchronous grouting,adjustment of the shield status,shield-advancing speed control,and stabilisation of the soil chamber pressure.With these countermeasures,the tunnel-induced deformations of maglev piers are well below the predefined thresholds.All piers heave under the strict deformation criterion of 2.0 mm.The crossing project is finally completed without interruptions of the maglev operations by monitoring the progress.The presented project is a valuable example for the evaluation of shield tunnelling effects on the adjacent maglev structures and establishes criteria for similar projects in the future.

Alloying materials hold great potential as the anodes for potassium-ion batteries(KIBs).However,the large volume changes during K^(+) alloying/dealloying reactions can lead to structural damage of the electrodes,resulting in fast capacity loss and shortened cycle life.Herein,we report the design of integrative carbon nanotubes@germanium(CNTs@Ge)films on copper foil by combined chemical and physical vapor deposition.Electrochemical tests show that the integrative CNTs@Ge films,working as binder-free electrodes,demonstrate higher specific capacity and rate performance in comparison with pristine Ge and CNTs electrodes.In addition,the CNTs@Ge films also deliver a long cycling stability with an areal specific capacity of 0.0417 mAh·cm^(−2) after 450 cycles at 1000μA·cm^(−2).The enhanced potassium storage properties can be attributed to the interweaved CNTs with abundant space that can effectively buffer the volume expansion of Ge during alloying/dealloying process.

Bursaphelenchus xylophilus,causal agent of pine wilt disease,causes extensive damage worldwide.Strate-gies are needed to inhibit population growth or block the spread of the invasive nematode to control pine wilt dis-ease.The gene daf-8 plays crucial roles in larval develop-ment and dauer formation in Caenorhabditis elegans,but little is known about its orthologue in B.xylophilus.In the present molecular characterization and functional analysis of daf-8 in B.xylophilus(Bx-daf-8),RT-qPCR showed that the expression of Bx-daf-8 gradually increased during the embryonic stage,peaked in the second-stage juvenile(J2),then dramatically dropped in the J3,and remained at that low level for the rest of its life.Bx-daf-8-transgenic C.elegans was employed to mimic the spatiotemporal expression of Bx-daf-8,which was expressed close to the pharynx during early embryogenesis and weakly throughout the whole body during late embryogenesis.It was observed in head neurons and tail ganglions throughout all postembryonic stages.B.xylophilus embryos were severely abnormal,and hatching rate decreased sharply after Bx-daf-8 knockdown.daf-16-1 and da-f16-2,downstream genes in the IIS pathway,also dropped sharply after Bx-daf-8 knockdown.We propose that TGFβmay crosstalk with the IIS pathway upstream of Bx-daf-16 and that daf-8 may act as a master regulator of daf-16 in B.xylophilus.However,knockdown of Bx-daf-8 did not lead to constitutive developmental arrest at the dauer larval stage,indicating that dauer entry in B.xylophilus might be controlled by several genes and is more complicated than in C.elegans.Bx-daf-8 alone did not control the dauer entry in B.xylophilus,but it was indispensable for embryogen-esis,providing a potential target for suppressing population growth of B.xylophilus.

Solid-liquid phase conversion between various sulfur species in lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries is a fundamental reaction of the sulfur cathode.Disclosing the morphological evolution of solid sulfur species upon cycling is of great significance to achieving high energy densities.However,an in-depth investigation of the internal reaction is still lacking.In this work,the evolution process of solid sulfur species on carbon substrates is systematically studied by using an operando light microscope combined with in situ electrochemical impedance spectra technology.The observation of phenomena such as bulk solid sulfur species can form and dissolve independently of the conductive substrates and the transformation of supercooled liquid sulfur to crystalline sulfur.Based on the phenomena mentioned above,a possible mechanism was proposed in which the dissolution reaction of solid sulfur species is a spatially free reaction that involves isotropic physical dissolution,diffusion of molecules,and finally the electrochemical reaction.Correspondingly,the formation of solid sulfur species tends to be a form of crystallization in a saturated solution rather than electrodeposition,as is commonly believed.Our findings offer new insights into the reaction of sulfur cathodes and provide new opportunities to design advanced sulfur cathodes for Li-S batteries.

Lithium sulfur(Li-S)batteries with high specific capacity and energy density can bring enormous opportunities for the nextgeneration energy storage systems.However,the severe dissolution and shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides(LiPSs)is still the key issue that seriously impedes the development of practical Li-S batteries.Here,polar Co9S8 inlaid carbon nanoboxes(Co9S8@C NBs)have been investigated as cathode host for high-performance Li-S batteries.In this integrated structure,Co9S8 nanocrystals not only provide strong chemisorptive capability for polar LiPSs,but also act as a catalyst to accelerate polysulfide redox reactions;while carbon nanobox with large inner space can offer enough space to relieve the volume expansion and physically confine LiPSs’dissolution.As a result,the S/Co9S8@C NBs cathode exhibits high specific capacity at 1C and the capacity retention was^83%after 400 cycles,corresponding to an average decay rate of only^0.043%per cycle.

Entangled chimeras in nonlocally coupled bicomponent phase oscillators:From synchronous to asynchronous chimeras

Chimera states,a symmetry-breaking spatiotemporal pattern in nonlocally coupled identical dynamical units,have been identified in various systems and generalized to coupled nonidentical oscillators.It has been shown that strong heterogeneity in the frequencies of nonidentical oscillators might be harmful to chimera states.In this work,we consider a ring of nonlocally coupled bicomponent phase oscillators in which two types of oscillators are randomly distributed along the ring:some oscillators with natural.frequency w1 and others with w2.In this model,the heterogeneity in frequency is measured by frequency mismatch|w1-w2|between the oscillators in these two subpopulations.We report that the nonlocally coupled bicomponent phase oscillators allow for chimera states no matter how large the frequency mismatch is.The bicomponent oscillators are composed of two chimera states,one supported by oscillators with natural frequency wI and the other by oscillators with natural frequency w2.The two chimera states in two subpopulations are synchronized at weak frequency mismatch,in which the coberent oscillators in thern share similar mean phase velocity,and are desynchronized at large frequency mismatch,in which the coherent oscillators in different subpopulations have distinct mean phase velocities.The synchronization-desynchronization transition between chimera states in these two subpopulations is observed with the increase in the frequency mismatch.The observed phenomena are theoretically analyzed by passing to the continuum limit and using the Ott-Antonsen approach.

Thecoal-to-liquidcoupledwithcarbon capture,utilization,and storage technology has the potential to reduce CO_(2)emissions,but its carbon footprint and cost assessment are still insufficient.In this paper,coal mining to oil production is taken as a life cycle to evaluate the carbon footprint and levelized costs of direct-coal-toliquid and indirect-coal-to-liquid coupled with the carbon capture utilization and storage technology under three scenarios:non capture,process capture,process and public capture throughout the life cycle.The results show that,first,the coupling carbon capture utilization and storage technology can reduce CO_(2)footprint by 28%-57%from 5.91 t CO_(2)/t:oil of direct-coal-to-liquid and 24%-49%from 7.10 t CO_(2)/t:oil of indirect-coal-to-liquid.Next,the levelized cost of direct-coal-to-liquid is 648-1027$/t of oil,whereas that of indirect-coal-to-liquid is 653-1065$/t of oil.When coupled with the carbon capture utilization and storage technology,the levelized cost of direct-coalto-liquid is 285-1364$/t of oil,compared to 1101-9793/t of oil for indirect-coal-to-liquid.Finally,sensitivity analysis shows that CO_(2)transportation distance has the greatest impact on carbon footprint,while coal price and initial investment cost significantly affect the levelized cost ofcoal-to-liquid.
