Dear Editor,earCultor,Soybean is a crucial source of protein for both humans and livestock and a vital oilseed crop.In 2010,the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute released the first version of the soybean cultivar genome Williams 82(Schmutz et al.,2010).Since then,numerous soybean genomes have been assembled and annotated,including wild species,cultivars,landraces,and pangenomic assemblies(Shen et al.,2018;xie et al.,2019;Liu et al.,2020).The Chinese soybean cultivar "Zhonghuang 13"(ZH13),which is widely used in China for its high yield and stress resistance,represents a genetic signature of Asian soybean and is the most complete soybean genome assembled using thirdgeneration sequencing technology(Shen et al.,2019).These genomes have facilitated the study of molecular mechanisms and gene regulation,hastening soybean breeding.Nonetheless,there are still many gaps in these soybean genomes,particularly in the centromere and telomere regions,which have not been assembled and annotated,hindering the development of soybean genomes and functional genomic research.

To the Editor:Cardiac arrest(CA)is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients globally and has low rates of overall survival.After the return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC),patients with CA and systemic ischemia/reperfusion injury can manifest as sepsis-like syndromes and immune disorders that increase the risk of infections.CD4^(+)T lymphocytes play an important role in organ ischemia-reperfusion injury.T-helper(Th)types 1 and 2 cells are classical subsets of CD4^(+)T cells.Extensive research on their functions in infectious and immune-related inflammatory diseases indicates that both subsets participate in host defense and direct immune responses.Data from CA/cardiopulmonary resuscitation porcine models and patients have revealed imbalances in Th1/Th2 cell ratio.[1]Therefore,Th1 and Th2 cells are important for understanding post-ROSC immune dysfunction in patients with CA.

Studies of accreted oceanic plateau sections provide crucial information on their structures,compositions,and origins.We investigate the petrogenesis of ultramafic–mafic rocks in the Tangjia–Sumdo greenstone belt of southeast Tibet using petrography,whole-rock geochemistry,and U-Pb zircon geochronology.These rocks are divided into four groups based on geochemical characteristics that include depleted and tholeiitic mafic rocks,transitional mafic rocks,enriched and alkaline mafic rocks,and picritic ultramafic rocks.Depleted and tholeiitic mafic rocks have the oldest crystallization ages(-272 Ma),followed by picritic ultramafic rocks(-270 Ma),transitional mafic rocks(267–254 Ma),and enriched and alkaline mafic rocks(252–250 Ma).Hafnium and neodymium isotope ratios of depleted and tholeiitic mafic rocks(ε_(Hf)(t)=+13.1–+16.9;ε_(Nd)(t)=+6.9–+7.1),transitional mafic rocks(ε_(Hf)(t)=+1.8–+16.9;ε_(Nd)(t)=+0.8–+5.5),enriched and alkaline mafic rocks(ε_(Hf)(t)=+0.5–+5.4;ε_(Nd)(t)=1.5 to+1.9)and picritic ultramafic rocks(ε_(Hf)(t)=+14.9–+17.2;ε_(Nd)(t)=+7.8–+9.0)are similar to those of N-MORB,E-MORB,OIB and depleted-type picritic mafic rocks in other oceanic plateaus,respectively.The geochemical characteristics of the depleted and tholeiitic mafic rocks suggest that they formed by partial melting of depleted spinel lherzolite in a mid-ocean ridge setting,whereas the picritic ultramafic rocks suggest a high degree of partial melting of depleted lherzolite in a hot mantle plume head.The transitional mafic rocks formed by partial melting of moderately enriched garnet lherzolite.The youngest rocks(enriched and alkaline mafic rocks)formed by partial melting of a more enriched garnet lherzolite(compared to transitional mafic rocks)at relatively low temperatures.We propose that the depleted and tholeiitic mafic rocks represent normal oceanic crust of the Sumdo Paleo-Tethys Ocean and the transitional mafic rocks,enriched and alkaline mafic rocks and picritic ultramafic rocks are the fragments of the oceanic plateau,which were rela

Brachial plexus avulsion(BPA)is a combined injury involving the central and peripheral nervous systems.Patients with BPA often experience severe neuropathic pain(NP)in the affected limb.NP is insensitive to the existing treatments,which makes it a challenge to researchers and clinicians.Accumulated evidence shows that a BPA-induced pain state is often accompanied by sympathetic nervous dysfunction,which suggests that the excitation state of the sympathetic nervous system is correlated with the existence of NP.However,the mechanism of how somatosensory neural crosstalk with the sympathetic nerve at the peripheral level remains unclear.In this study,through using a novel BPA C7 root avulsion mouse model,we found that the expression of BDNF and its receptor TrκB in the DRGs of the BPA mice increased,and the markers of sympathetic nervous system activity includingα1 andα2 adrenergic receptors(α1-AR andα2-AR)also increased after BPA.The phenomenon of superexcitation of the sympathetic nervous system,including hypothermia and edema of the affected extremity,was also observed in BPA mice by using CatWalk gait analysis,an infrared thermometer,and an edema evaluation.Genetic knockdown of BDNF in DRGs not only reversed the mechanical allodynia but also alleviated the hypothermia and edema of the affected extremity in BPA mice.Further,intraperitoneal injection of adrenergic receptor inhibitors decreased neuronal excitability in patch clamp recording and reversed the mechanical allodynia of BPA mice.In another branch experiment,we also found the elevated expression of BDNF,TrκB,TH,α1-AR,andα2-AR in DRG tissues from BPA patients compared with normal human DRGs through western blot and immunohistochemistry.Our results revealed that peripheral BDNF is a key molecule in the regulation of somatosensory-sympathetic coupling in BPA-induced NP.This study also opens a novel analgesic target(BDNF)in the treatment of this pain with fewer complications,which has great potential for clinical transformation.

Laboratory search of exotic interactions is crucial for exploring physics beyond the standard model.We report new experimental constraints on two exotic spin-dependent interactions at the micrometer scale based on ensembles of nitrogen-vacancy(NV) centers in diamond.A thin layer of NV ele ctronic spin ensembles is synthesized as the solid-state spin quantum sensor,and a lead sphere is taken as the interacting nucleon source.Our result establishes new bounds for two types of exotic spin interactions at the micrometer scale.For an exotic parity-odd spin-and velocity-dependent interaction,improved bounds are set within the force range from 5 to 500 μm.The upper limit of the corresponding coupling constant gAegVNat 330 μm is more than 1000-fold more stringent than the previous constraint.For the P,T-violating scalar-pseudoscalar nucleon-electron interaction,improved constraints are established within the force range from 6 to 45 μm.The limit of the corresponding coupling constant gSNgPeis improved by more than one order of magnitude at 30μm.This work demonstrates that a solid-state NV ensemble can be a powerful platform for probing exotic spin-dependent interactions.

Spatiotemporal variation of the loose deposits in Baisha River Basin after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake

Extensive landslides were triggered by the Wenchuan earthquake(in China)on 12 May 2008,causing a tremendous amount of loose material suspended on the hillslopes,likely to be eroded and transported by rain.It is of great significance to study the long-term variation of the quantity and spatiotemporal distribution of loose deposits after a great earthquake in order to understand the restoration process,to assess the risk of future soil erosion,including geological hazards,and to further develop ecological governance strategy.In this study,information about the multi-temporal loose deposits on the ranges of the Baisha River Basin,an alpine valley near the epicenter,was extracted by objectoriented remote sensing interpretation,and analysis on their spatiotemporal variation showed that the earthquake in 2008 resulted in loose deposits covering an additional area of 81.09 km2,with a volume estimated at 0.357 billion m3.Within five years after the earthquake,the vegetation had recovered rapidly,and the extent of the deposits was significantly less.From 5 to 13 years after the earthquake,the vegetation continued to recover but at a slower rate and a decreasing trend in newly formed deposits was evident.The total area,volume and quantity of the loose deposits gradually stabilized.The geometric mean center of the loose deposits gradually moved back towards the upstream area after the earthquake and,by 2021,the mean center was about 4 km away from its pre-earthquake position.Taking the mean center of the loose deposits in 2008 as the center,the deposits in the downstream area shrank significantly after the earthquake,but collapses and landslides of deposits persisted in the upstream area to the west-southwest,west-northwest and northnorthwest from the mean center,indicating future source areas of new loose deposits in the basin.

BACKGROUND:This study aimed to explore the changes of programmed death-ligand 1(PDL1)and programmed death-1(PD-1)expression on antigen-presenting cells(APCs)and evaluate their association with organ failure and mortality during early sepsis.METHODS:In total,40 healthy controls and 198 patients with sepsis were included in this study.Peripheral blood was collected within the first 24 h after the diagnosis of sepsis.The expression of PDL1 and PD-1 was determined on APCs,such as B cells,monocytes,and dendritic cells(DCs),by flow cytometry.Cytokines in plasma,such as interferon-γ(IFN-γ),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-4(IL-4),IL-6,IL-10,and IL-17A were determined by Luminex assay.RESULTS:PD-1 expression decreased significantly on B cells,monocytes,myeloid DCs(mDCs),and plasmacytoid DCs(pDCs)as the severity of sepsis increased.PD-1 expression was also markedly decreased in non-survivors compared with survivors.In contrast,PD-L1 expression was markedly higher on mDCs,pDCs,and monocytes in patients with sepsis than in healthy controls and in non-survivors than in survivors.The PD-L1 expression on APCs(monocytes and DCs)was weakly related to organ dysfunction and infl ammation.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)of the PD-1 percentage of monocytes(monocyte PD-1%)+APACHE II model(0.823)and monocyte PD-1%+SOFA model(0.816)had higher prognostic value than other parameters alone.Monocyte PD-1%was an independent risk factor for 28-day mortality.CONCLUSION:The severity of sepsis was correlated with PD-L1 or PD-1 over-expression on APCs.PD-L1 in monocytes and DCs was weakly correlated with infl ammation and organ dysfunction during early sepsis.The combination of SOFA or APACHE II scores with monocyte PD-1%could improve the prediction ability for mortality.

Maize tassel detection is essential for future agronomic management in maize planting and breeding,with application in yield estimation,growth monitoring,intelligent picking,and disease detection.However,detecting maize tassels in the field poses prominent challenges as they are often obscured by widespread occlusions and differ in size and morphological color at different growth stages.This study proposes the SEYOLOX-tiny Model that more accurately and robustly detects maize tassels in the field.Firstly,the data acquisition method ensures the balance between the image quality and image acquisition efficiency and obtains maize tassel images from different periods to enrich the dataset by unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV).Moreover,the robust detection network extends YOLOX by embedding an attention mechanism to realize the extraction of critical features and suppressing the noise caused by adverse factors(e.g.,occlusions and overlaps),which could be more suitable and robust for operation in complex natural environments.Experimental results verify the research hypothesis and show a mean average precision(mAP_(@0.5)) of 95.0%.The mAP_(@0.5),mAP_(@0.5-0.95),mAP_(@0.5-0.95(area=small)),and mAP_(@0.5-0.95(area=medium)) average values increased by 1.5,1.8,5.3,and 1.7%,respectively,compared to the original model.The proposed method can effectively meet the precision and robustness requirements of the vision system in maize tassel detection.

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Chinese herbal external umbilicus treatment with Modified Dinggui Powder(加味丁桂散,MDGP)in patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis(CNP).Methods:A randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted among 72 patients with CNP.Participants were randomly allocated to a treatment group and a placebo group using computer software in a 1:1 ratio,and received either MDGP external umbilicus treatment(MDGP group,36 cases)or placebo(control group,36 cases)at acupoints Shenque(CV 8),twice a week for 4 weeks.In addtion,patients all received herbal medicine treatment twice a day for 4 weeks.The primary outcome was the US National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Scores Index(NIH-CPSI)with a questionnaire at weeks 2 and 4.The secondary outcomes including prostatic fluid examination(white blood cells and lecithin bodies),the clinical efficacy evaluation,and the adverse events were also assessed during the entire trial.Results:The NIH-CPSI scores regarding pain or discomfort scores showed greater improvement in the MDGP group than placebo control group at weeks 2(P=0.001)and week 4(P=0.004),respectively.NIH-CPSI scores of symptom severity,total scores and leukocytes number in the prostatic fluid in the MDGP group were significantly improved(P0.05).The clinical effective rate was 73.53%(25/34)in the MDGP group,which was significally higher than the placebo control group with 48.39%(25/31,P<0.05).Patients were blinded successfully,and no serious adverse effects were found during the trial.Conclusion:A 4-week course of umbilicus treatment with modified Dinggui Powder seems to relieve pain and symptom severity effectively and increase the amount of leukocytes number in patients with CNP(Trial registration No.ChiCTRI 800014687).
