This paper is to provide quantitative data on some critical issues in anticipation of the forthcoming international negotiations in Denmark on the control of atmospheric CO2.concentrations. Instead of letting only a small number of countries dominate a few controversial dialogues about emissions reductions, a comprehensive global system must be established based on emissions allowances for different countries, to realize the long-term goal of controlling global atmospheric CO2.concentrations. That a system rooted in "cumulative emissions per capita," the best conception of the "common but differentiated responsibilities" principle affirmed by the Kyoto Protocol according to fundamental standards of fairness and justice, was demonstrated. Based on calculations of various countries' cumulative emissions per capita, estimates of their cumulative emissions from 1900 to 2.05, and their annual emissions allowances into the future (2.06―2.50), a 470 ppmv atmospheric CO2.concentration target was set. According to the following four objective indicators―total emissions allowance from 1900 to 2.50, actual emissions from 1900 to 2.05, emissions levels in 2.05, and the average growth rate of emissions from 1996 to 2.05―all countries and regions whose population was more than 300000 in 2.05 were divided into four main groups: countries with emissions deficits, countries and regions needing to reduce their gross emissions, countries and regions needing to reduce their emissions growth rates, and countries that can maintain the current emissions growth rates. Based on this proposal, most G8 countries by 2.05 had already expended their 2.50 emissions allowances. The accu-mulated financial value based on emissions has reached more than 5.5 trillion US dollars (2. dollars per ton of CO2.. Even if these countries could achieve their ambitious emissions reduction targets in the future, their per capita emissions from 2.06 to 2.50 would still be much higher than those of developing coun

The linear model based on the hydraulic pressure vibrator has been no longer adaptable to the electromagnetic vibrator. In order to realize the effective transmission of the limited energy from the vibrator to the ground, it is important to study the coupling model of the electromagnetic vibrator and the earth. In this paper, a nonlinear restore term was introduced to the coupling model because of the existence of a large amount of harmonics in the vibrator baseplate. The nonlinear vibration analysis was applied to the model by the multiscale method. In the course of energy transmission from the vibrator to the ground, ultraharmonic resonance was used to explain the generation of harmonics. An improved scheme was advanced to select the cross correlation reference signal in the vibrator seismic exploration. Good application results were obtained in field experiments.

The digitalization software developed based on AutoCAD is one important platform of GIS data gather. But because AutoCAD itself is not the software of GIS, it can not be used to collect the attribute data. And conversion data to GIS software often lose some information such as color, line style, symbol shape. By using the XDATA, the Handle, the Group of AutoCAD and the provided ObjectArx to Redevelop, under AutoCAD condition, the attribute information collection with space information were realized, also did the AutoCAD symbol integrity and accurate expresses, then the demand of the digit graphics was satisfied.

Cratonization is a key geological process to form stable continental masses with a considerable *** Precambrian global cratonization and formation of supercratons in the world is an unrepeated event in the history of the Earth’s formation and *** based on study of early Precambrian geology in Eastern Hebei Region and combining other Archean regions in the North{2. Craton(NCC),the author proposes a two-stage cratonization model of the *** first stage took place at the end of Neoarchean of～2.5 Ga(boundary time between Archean and Proterozoic),when several micro-blocks were amalgamated together with amphibohte-granuhte facies metamorphism and intrusion of crustal-melting granites to form the present-scale *** second cratonization event is cratonic reworking,corresponding to rifting-subduction-collision at 2.3-1.97 Ga and subsequent extension-uplifting related to upwelling mantle at 1.97-1.82.Ga,which could be linked to,respectively, assembly and breaking up of the Columbia *** main Paleoproterozoic mobile belts in the NCC record that small remnant Neoarchean ocean basins and continental rift basins within the craton were opened and finally closed, and metamorphosed to greenschist-amphibolite facies at～2.0-1.97 *** that,high-grade granulite facies(HT-HP and HT-UHT) metamorphism with abnormally high heat occurred at 1.97-1.82.Ga.A metamorphism-migmatization event that includes lower crust of the NCC uplifting as a whole,intrusion of mafic dyke swarms,continental rifting and anorogenic magmatic action took place in 1.82.1.65 Ga,marking that the second cratonization of the NCC was finally accomplished and started to evolve to a period of stable continent(platform).

Petrography and mineral chemistry of two new ureilites, GRV 02.512.and 02.931, from the Grove Mountains, Antarctica, are reported in this paper. GRV 02.512.exhibits a typical ureilite texture, and consists of 48.3% olivine, 9.4% pigeonite and 38.1% carbo- naceous interstitial material and/or reduction product. GRV 02.931 has a cataclastic porphyritic texture, and consists of 19.1% olivine and 14.1% pigeonite embedded in 66.3% carbonaceous interstitial material and/or reduction product. The coarse-grained olivine and pigeonite in both meteorites have homogeneous cores, and they are FeO-rich within the range of the ferroan subgroup (subgroup I) of olivine-pigeonite ureilites. All olivine grains of the meteorites show reduction zones along boundaries and cracks. Abundant diamond coexists with graphite as graphite-rich patches and veins in the carbonaceous interstitial material. Petrogenesis of both meteorites and the origin of diamond are discussed.

Recent discoveries of ophiolites indicate that there must be a Palaeotethyan geosuture zone bordering china and Vietnam, which separates the Vietbac block from the South china subcontinent. The Indosinian foreland fold-and-thrust belt bordering Yunnan and Guangxi provided further evidence for the palaeotethysides. The oceanic crust was subducted southwestwards while the magmatic arc migrated northeastwards, and the continent-arc collision occurred in the Late Triassic with the thrusting being extended towards the north or northeast. The features of thrust-nappe structure are discussed, which proved the continental margin of the Palaeotethyan ocean there to be a complicated one. A face-to-face collision occurred first along the NW-striking segment and then along the ENE-striking segment accompanied by transpression or oblique thrusting occurring along the NW-striking one.

A new set of δ 34S sulfide, δ 34S sulfate and δ 13C carbonate values has been reported from Neoproterozoic sedimentary rocks in southern china. The interglacial black shales of the Datangpo Fm. display higher δ 34S sulfide values with >+2.‰ average, but the postglacial black shales from the Doushantuo Fm. show negative δ 34S sulfide values. However, the Jinjiadong Fm., the same post-glaciation as the Doushantuo Fm., has positive δ 34S sulfide values, implying that the δ 34S value of sedimentary sulfides would be controlled by lithofacies and paleogeographic environments. The δ 34S sulfate values relative to δ 13C carbonate were obtained by extraction of trace sulfate from the successive carbonate sequences in the Yangtze Gorges sections. A preliminary interpretation suggests that the oceanic environment may fluctuate dramatically at the post-glacial Doushantuo stage and, then, recover its stability at the Dengying stage on the basis of the high resolution δ 34S and δ 13C curves of seawater.
