AIM:To explore the effects of hepatocyte growth factor(HGF)on retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)cell ***:The human adult retinal pigment epithelial cell line-19(ARPE-19)were treated by HGF or mesenchymalepithelial transition factor(MET)inhibitor SU11274 in *** viability was detected by a Cell Counting Kit-8 *** proliferation and motility was detected by a bromodeoxyuridine incorporation assay and a wound healing assay,*** expression levels of MET,phosphorylated MET,protein kinase B(AKT),and phosphorylated AKT proteins were determined by Western blot *** MET and phosphorylated MET proteins were also determined by immunofluorescence ***:HGF increased ARPE-19 cells’viability,proliferation and migration,and induced an increase of phosphorylated MET and phosphorylated AKT ***11274 significantly reduced cell viability,proliferation,and migration and decreased the expression of MET and AKT ***11274 suppressed HGF-induced increase of viability,proliferation,and migration in ARPE-19 ***,SU11274 also blocked HGF-induced phosphorylation of MET and AKT ***:HGF enhances cellular viability,proliferation,and migration in RPE cells through the MET/AKT signaling pathway,whereas this enhancement is suppressed by the MET inhibitor ***-induced MET/AKT signaling might be a vital contributor of RPE cells survival.

AIM:To explore the effect of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)inhibition by erlotinib and EGFR siRNA on epidermal growth factor(EGF)-induced activation of retinal pigment epithelium(RPE)***:Human RPE cell line(ARPE-19 cells)was activated by 100 ng/mL *** and EGFR siRNA were used to intervene EGF *** viability,proliferation,and migration were detected by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium(MTT)assay,bromodeoxyuridine(BrdU)staining assay and wound healing assay,***/protein kinase B(AKT)pathway proteins and N-cadherin,α-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA),and vimentin were tested by Western blot *** was also determined by immunofluorescence ***:EGF treatment for 24h induced a significant increase of ARPE-19 cells’viability,proliferation and migration,phosphorylation of EGFR/AKT proteins,and decreased total EGFR *** suppressed ARPE-19 cells’viability,proliferation and migration through down regulating total EGFR and AKT protein *** also inhibited EGF-induced an increase of proliferative and migrative ability in ARPE-19 cells and clearly suppressed EGF-induced EGFR/AKT proteins phosphorylation and decreased expression of N-cadherin,α-SMA,and vimentin ***,EGFR inhibition by EGFR siRNA significantly affected EGF-induced an increase of cell proliferation,viability,and migration,phosphorylation of EGFR/AKT proteins,and up-regulation of N-cadherin,α-SMA,and vimentin ***:Erlotinib and EGFR-knockdown suppress EGF-induced cell viability,proliferation,and migration via EGFR/AKT pathway in RPE *** inhibition may be a possible therapeutic approach for proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR).

The recent realization of valley physics in photonic systems has enriched the topological phases of light with protected edge modes and shown applications in designing high-performance photonic devices. However, the widely reported valley Hall effect of light in two-dimensional systems is limited to one single polarization. Here, we present dual-polarization two-dimensional valley photonic crystals by simultaneously opening two frequency accidental degenerate Dirac cones. Two band gaps with different polarizations are characterized by opposite-valley Chern numbers, which are confirmed by the opposite-phase vortex distributions of bulk modes and opposite Berry curvatures. This situation results in the polarization-dependent refraction of bulk and edge modes, which locate in opposite valleys. The polarization-independent topological valley transport is also demonstrated. Our work shows the flexible control of light in topological photonic systems with a polarization degree of freedom and has applications in polarization multiplexing photonic devices.

This study proposed a wave power system with two coaxial floating cylinders of different diameters and ***’s conceptual design has been adopted in the wave power *** this study,a basic analysis of the wave energy extraction by the relative motion between two floats is *** maximum power absorption was studied theoretically under regular wave conditions,and the effects of both linear and constant damping forces on the power take-off(PTO)were investigated.A set of dynamic equations describing the floats’displacement under regular waves and different PTOs are established.A time-domain numerical model is developed,considering the PTO parameter and viscous damping,and the optimal PTO damping and output power are *** the analysis of estimating the maximum power absorption,a new estimation method called Power Capture Function(PCF)is proposed and constructed,which can be used to predict the power capture under both linear and constant PTO *** on this,energy extraction is analyzed and ***,the performance characteristics of the two-body power system are concluded.

Three-dimensional(3D)artificial metacrystals host rich topological phases,such as Weyl points,nodal rings,and 3D photonic topological *** topological states enable a wide range of applications,including 3D robust waveguides,one-way fiber,and negative refraction of the surface ***,these carefully designed metacrystals are usually very complex,hindering their extension to nanoscale photonic ***,we theoretically proposed and experimentally realized an ideal nodal ring in the visible region using a simple 1D photonic *** TT-Berrry phase around the ring is manifested by a 2π reflection phase's winding and the resultant drumhead surface *** breaking the inversion symmetry,the nodal ring can be gapped and the n-Berry phase would diffuse into a toroidal-shaped Berry flux,resulting in photonic ridge states(the 3D extension of quantum valley Hall states).Our results provide a simple and feasible platform for exploring 3D topological physics and its potential applications in nanophotonics.

As an important wave energy converter(WEC),the double-buoy device has advantages of wider energy absorption band and deeper water adaptability,which attract an increasing number of attentions from *** paper makes an in-depth study on double-buoy WEC,by means of the combination of model experiment and numerical *** Response Amplitude Operator(RAO)and energy capture of the double-buoy under constant power take-off(PTO)damping are investigated in the model test,while the average power output and capture width ratio(CWR)are calculated by the numerical simulation to analyze the influence of the wave condition,PTO,and the geometry parameters of the *** AQWA-Fortran united simulation sy stem,including the secondary developme nt of AQWA software coupled with the flowchart of the Fortran code,models a new dynamic *** viscous damping and hydraulic friction from WEC system are measured from the experimental results,and these values are added to the equation of *** a result,the energy loss is contained in the final numerical model the by united simulation *** the developed numerical model,the optimal period of energy capture is *** power capture reaches the maximum value under the outer buoy's natural *** paper gives the peak value of the energy capture under the linear PTO damping force,and calculates the optimal mass ratio of the device.

Chern insulators have been generalized to many classical wave systems and thereby lead to many potential applications such as robust waveguides, quantum computation and high-performance lasers. However, the band structure of a material can be either topologically trivial or non-trivial, depending on how the crystal structure is designed. Here, we propose a second Chern crystal in a four-dimensional parameter space by introducing two extra synthetic translation dimensions. Since the topology of the bulk bands in the synthetic translation space is intrinsically non-trivial, our proposed four-dimensional crystal is guaranteed to be topologically non-trivial regardless of the crystal’s detailed configuration. We derive the topologically protected modes on the lower dimensional boundaries of such a crystal via dimension ***, we observe the one-dimensional gapless dislocation modes and confirm their robustness in experiments. Our findings provide novel perspectives on topologically non-trivial crystals and may inspire designs of classical wave devices.
