Android Malware Detection Method Based on Permission Complement and API Calls

The dynamic code loading mechanism of the Android system allows an application to load executable files externally at runtime. This mechanism makes the development of applications more convenient, but it also brings security issues. Applications that hide malicious behavior in the external file by dynamic code loading are becoming a new challenge for Android malware detection. To overcome this challenge, based on dynamic code loading mechanisms, three types of threat models,i.e. Model I, Model II, and Model III are defined. For the Model I type malware, its malicious behavior occurs in Dex Code, so the application programming interface(API)classes were used to characterize the behavior of the DexCode file. For the Model II type and Model III type malwares whose malicious behaviors occur in an external file,the permission complement is defined to characterize the behaviors of the external file. Based on permission complement and API calls, an Android malicious application detection method is proposed, of which feature sets are constructed by improving a feature selection method. Five datasets containing 15,581 samples are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that our detection method achieves accuracy of 99.885% on general dataset, and performes the best on all evaluation metrics on all datasets in all comparison methods.

Pre-combustion mercury removal with co-production of hydrogen via coal electrolysis

Pre-combustion mercury removal via coal electrolysis was performed and investigated on a bench-scale coal electrolytic cell(CEC)systemically,and factorial design was used to determine the effect of different operating conditions(coal particle size,operating temperature,operating cell voltage,and flow rate of slurry)on the percentage of mercury removal,percentage of ash removal,and dry heating value change.The results showed that the operating cell voltage,as well as the interaction between operating cell voltage and coal particle size,are significant factors in the percentage of mercury removal.There is no significant factor in the percentage of ash removal and the dry heating value change,but the coal could be purified while keeping the dry heating value almost constant after electrolysis.A co-product of hydrogen could be produced during coal electrolysis with 50%lower energy consumption compared with water electrolysis.Meanwhile,a mechanism for mercury removal in coal was proposed.The facts indicate that coal electrolysis is a promising method for precombustion mercury removal.

Real-time localization for underwater equipment using an extremely low frequency electric field

A new real-time underwater equipment location method adopting an electric field induced by a standard current source is proposed.Our goals were real-time tracking and location of stationary or moving underwater equipment both in shallow and deep seas,under noisy conditions.The main features of this method are as follows:(1)a standard current source on the water surface,which can be towed by a vehicle,consisting of two electrodes,a signal generator,and a GPS unit;(2)measurement of the extremely low frequency(ELF)electric field emitted by the current source,made possible by electric field sensors on the underwater equipment;(3)position of the underwater equipment is estimated in real time based on a progressive update extended Kalman filter(PUEKF),which is carried out using the propagation model of an ELF electric field because the electric field at the position of the underwater equipment and the current source position are known.We verified the accuracy of our method and confirmed real-time location feasibility through numerical,physical scale,and real-time sea experiments.Through numerical experiments,we verified that our method works for underwater equipment location in real-world conditions,and the location error can be less than 0.2 m.Next,real-time location experiments for stationary underwater measuring equipment in water tank were conducted.The result shows that the location error can be less than 0.1 m.We also confirmed real-time location feasibility through the use of offshore experiment.We expect that our method will complement conventional underwater acoustic location methods for underwater equipment in acoustically noisy environments.

Coordinated Planning for Fast Charging Stations and Distribution Networks Based on an Improved Flow Capture Location Model

The increasing penetration of plug-in electric vehi-cles(PEVs)should lead to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.Nevertheless,the development of PEVs is limited by the lack of charging facilities,which is constrained by the coupled transportation-distribution network.This paper presents a stochastic bi-level model for the optimal allocation of fast charging stations(FCSs)and distribution network expansion planning(DNEP).First,a sequential capacitated flow-capturing location-allocation model(SCFCLM)is proposed at the lower level to optimize the allocation of FCSs on the transportation network.Monte-Carlo simulation(MCS)is utilized to estimate daily charging load requirements.Then,we propose an economic model for DNEP at the upper level,and the chance constrained method is employed to relax power flow constraints to address the uncertainties of loads.Numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate the proposed planning method.The influences of the flow capturing sequence and relaxed confidence level on the PEV charging load,FCS planning strategies and DNEP schemes are analyzed.Index Terms-Coordinated planning,fast charging station,flow-capturing model,plug-in electric vehicle,stochastic bi-level model.

A facile and green strategy to obtain organic room-temperature phosphorescence from natural lignin

Seeking pure organic functional luminescent materials that are processed from green, low-cost, and sustainable resources remains a challenging but beneficial task. As an abundant natural polymer composed of crosslinked phenol ether units, lignin is a potential source of organic luminescent material because of the presence of extensive aromatic fragments. In the present work, a remarkable afterglow involving room-temperature phosphorescence(RTP) was achieved via simply embedding alkalized lignin into polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) matrix, and an ultralong luminescence lifetime of more than 160 ms was observed. More importantly, our study revealed that small fragments of hydrolyzed lignin(named LA-H) bearing extensive phenolic oxygen anions were the effective luminescent species. When embedded into a PVA matrix, LA-H showed remarkably high luminescence quantum yield and long lifetime of RTP emission compared with those of unprocessed lignin. Additionally, the various phenol oxygen anion moieties endowed LA-H with an excitation-dependent characteristic: the color-tunable RTP could be simply tuned from a maximum emission wavelength of 434–532 nm via altering the excitation wavelength. Thus, the color-tunable afterglow of emissive LA-H could be facilely obtained with a yield up to 38.4% using simple acid hydrolysis of lignin without other complex synthesis procedures. This work opens new avenues in the large-scale preparation of low-cost and sustainable pure organic RTP materials.

Metal–air batteries: A review on current status and future applications

Metal–air batteries(MABs) have been paid much more attention owing to their greater energy density than the most advanced lithium-ion batteries(LIBs). Rechargeable MABs are considered as promising candidates for the next-generation of energy storage techniques for applications ranging from large-scale energy storage systems to electric vehicles and portable devices. However, there are still numerous scientific problems that must be overcome before their commercial application. With the aim of providing a comprehensive understanding of this new electrochemical system particularly Li–air batteries, this review paper provides an overview of the current status including corresponding strategies from the perspective of various battery components, including air cathode,metal anode and electrolyte. In addition, other promising MABs such as Zn–air, Mg–air and Al–air batteries are also introduced briefly for comparison. Finally, the applications and prospects of these four types of MABs are discussed and some perspectives for this research field are also provided.

Modeling epidemic spread in transportation networks:A review

The emergence of novel infectious diseases has become a serious global problem.Convenient transportation networks lead to rapid mobilization in the context of globalization,which is an important factor underlying the rapid spread of infectious diseases.Transportation systems can cause the transmission of viruses during the epidemic period,but they also support the reopening of economies after the epidemic.Understanding the mechanism of the impact of mobility on the spread of infectious diseases is thus important,as is establishing the risk model of the spread of infectious diseases in transportation networks.In this study,the basic structure and application of various epidemic spread models are reviewed,including mathematical models,statistical models,network-based models,and simulation models.The advantages and limitations of model applications within transportation systems are analyzed,including dynamic characteristics of epidemic transmission and decision supports for management and control.Lastly,research trends and prospects are discussed.It is suggested that there is a need for more in-depth research to examine the mutual feedback mechanism of epidemics and individual behavior,as well as the proposal and evaluation of intervention measures.The findings in this study can help evaluate disease intervention strategies,provide decision supports for transport policy during the epidemic period,and ameliorate the deficiencies of the existing system.

A projected Newton algorithm based on chemically allowed interval for chemical equilibrium computations

The chemical equilibrium equations utilized in reactive transport modeling are complex and nonlinear,and are typically solved using the Newton-Raphson method.Although this algorithm is known for its quadratic convergence near the solution,it is less effective far from the solution,especially for ill-conditioned problems.In such cases,the algorithm may fail to converge or require excessive iterations.To address these limitations,a projected Newton method is introduced to incorporate the concept of projection.This method constrains the Newton step by utilizing a chemically allowed interval that generates feasible descending iterations.Moreover,we utilize the positive continuous fraction method as a preconditioning technique,providing reliable initial values for solving the algorithms.The numerical results are compared with those derived using the regular Newton-Raphson method,the Newton-Raphson method based on chemically allowed interval updating rules,and the bounded variable least squares method in six different test cases.The numerical results highlight the robustness and efficacy of the proposed algorithm.
