Facile fabrication of dolomite-doped biochar/bentonite for effective removal of phosphate from complex wastewaters

The removal of phosphate from wastewater using traditional biological or precipitation methods is a huge *** use of high-performance adsorbents has been shown to address this *** this study,a novel composite adsorbent,composed of dolomite-doped biochar and bentonite(DO/BB),was first synthesized via *** combination of initial phosphate concentration of 100 mg/L and 1.6 g/L of DO/BB exhibited a high phosphate-adsorption capacity of 62 mg/g with a removal efficiency of 99.8%.It was also stable in complex water environments with various levels of solution pH,coexisting anions,high salinity,and humic *** this new composite,the phosphate concentration of the actual domestic sewage decreased from 9 mg/L to less than 1 mg/L,and the total nitrogen and chemical oxygen demand also decreased ***,the cross-flow treatment using a PVC membrane loaded with DO/BB(PVC-DO/BB),decreased the phosphate concentration from 1 to 0.08 mg/L,suggesting outstanding separation of phosphate pollutants via a combination of adsorption and *** addition,the removal of phosphate by the PVC-DO/BB membrane using NaOH solution as an eluent was almost 90%after 5 *** kinetic,isotherm and XPS analysis before and after adsorption suggested that adsorption via a combination of electrostatic interaction,complexation and precipitation contributed to the excellent separation by the as-obtained membranes.

Analysis and optimization of thermal management system for cylindrical power battery based on distributed liquid cooling plates

To ensure the battery works in a suitable temperature range, a new design for distributed liquid cooling plate is proposed, and a battery thermal management system(BTMS) for cylindrical power battery pack based on the proposed cooling plate is also investigated. To verify the accuracy of the battery model and battery pack numerical calculation model used for simulation, an experiment is conducted for the liquid cooling BTMS. The influence of key working parameters, including the cooling water inlet flow, ambient temperature and working conditions, are investigated. The results show that at the discharge rate of 3 C, the best cooling performance can be achieved when the total inlet mass flow rate is 3.2 g/s and the flow distribution is 3:1:1:3. The obtained maximum temperature is 29.6°C and the maximum temperature difference is 2.1°C. When the ambient temperature is in the range of 20°C to 50°C, the proposed BTMS can keep the temperature of battery pack in the proper range. Finally, different inlet flow rates are recommended according to different battery working states.

PIV analysis and high-speed photographic observation of cavitating flow field behind circular multi-orifice plates

Based on a self-developed hydrodynamic cavitation device with different geometric parameters for circular multi-orifice plates,turbulence characteristics of cavitating flow behind multi-orifice plates,including the effects of orifice number and orifice layout on longitudinal velocity,turbulence intensity,and Reynolds stress,were measured with the particle image velocimetry(PIV)*** regimes of the cavitating flow were also observed with high-speed *** experimental results showed the following:(1)high-velocity multiple cavitating jets occurred behind the multi-orifice plates,and the cavitating flow fields were characterized by topological structures;(2)the longitudinal velocity at each cross-section exhibited a sawtooth-like distribution close to the multi-orifice plate,and each sawtooth indicated one jet issuing from one orifice;(3)there were similar magnitudes and forms for the longitudinal and vertical turbulence intensities at the same cross-section;(4)the variation in amplitude of Reynolds stress increased with an increase in orifice number;and(5)the cavitation clouds in the flow fields became denser with the increase in orifice number,and the clouds generated by the staggered layout of orifices were greater in number than those generated by the checkerboard-type one for the same orifice *** experimental results can be used to analyze the mechanism of killing pathogenic microorganisms through hydrodynamic cavitation.

Highly efficient and selective removal of phosphate from wastewater of sea cucumber aquaculture for microalgae culture using a new adsorption-membrane separation-coordinated strategy

Enhanced phosphorus treatment and recovery has been continuously pursued due to the stringent wastewater discharge regulations and a phosphate supply shortage. Here, a new adsorption-membrane separation strategy was developed for rational reutilization of phosphate from sea cucumber aquaculture wastewater using a Zr-modified-bentonite filled polyvinyl chloride membrane. The as-obtained polyvinyl chloride/Zr-modified-bentonite membrane was highly permeability (940 L/(m2·h)), 1–2 times higher than those reported in other studies, and its adsorption capacity was high (20.6 mg/g) when the phosphate concentration in water was low (5 mg/L). It remained stable under various conditions, such as different pH, initial phosphate concentrations, and the presence of different ions after 24 h of adsorption in a cross-flow filtration system. The total phosphorus and phosphate removal rate reached 91.5% and 95.9%, respectively, after the membrane was used to treat sea cucumber aquaculture wastewater for 24 h and no other water quality parameters had been changed. After the purification process, the utilization of the membrane as a new source of phosphorus in the phosphorus-free f/2 medium experiments indicated the high cultivability of economic microalgae Phaeodactylum tricornutum FACHB-863 and 1.2 times more chlorophyll a was present than in f/2 medium. The biomass and lipid content of the microalgae in the two different media were similar. The innovative polyvinyl chloride/Zr-modified-bentonite membrane used for phosphorus removal and recovery is an important instrument to establish the groundwork for both the treatment of low concentration phosphate from wastewater as well as the reuse of enriched phosphorus in required fields.

Decarburization rate of RH refining for ultra low carbon steel

The decarburization behaviors of ultra low carbon steel in a 210-t RH vacuum degasser were investigated under practical operat- ing conditions. According to the apparent decarburization rate constant （Kc） calculated by the carbon content in the samples taken from the hot melt in a ladle at an interval of 1-2 min, it is observed that the total decarburization reaction period in RH can be divided into the quick decarburization period and the stagnant decarburization period, which is quite different from the traditional one with three stages. In this study, the average apparent decarburization rate constant during the quick decarburization period is 0.306 min^-1, and that of the stagnant period is 0.072 min^-1. Increasing the initial carbon content and enhancing the exhausting capacity can increase the apparent decarburization rate constant in the quick decarburization period. The decarburization reaction comes into the stagnant decarburization period when the carbon content in molten steel is less than 14× 10^-6 after 10 min of decarburization.

Effect of Spark Plasma Sintering on Microstructures and Properties of Al-Fe Alloy

2024 Aluminum alloy powder( 60wt%) and Fe-based amorphous powder( 40 wt%) were adopted. They were mechanical machined for 48hours after being mixed. Bulk material was gained after Spark Plasma Sintering. The sintering parameters included sintering temperature,heating or cooling rates,pressure and holding time. 300 ℃- 800 ℃ were adopted while the heating or cooling rate was 100 ℃ / min and with the pressure of 50 MPa in the experiments. The holding time was 10 min or 20 min at different temperatures, respectively. Bulk materials after sintering were examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Diffraction. The micro-hardness and relative density also were tested. The sintering temperature had the most significant influence on the microstructure and property of the bulk material. The influence of holding time came second while the heating or cooling rates and pressure were fixed. The density became larger with the increase of the temperature. The compactness was best at 500℃. The pressure and generation of high-temperature phases were the factors which affected the density and the compactness.

Estimating distribution of water uptake with depth of winter wheat by hydrogen and oxygen stable isotopes under different irrigation depths

Crop root system plays an important role in the water cycle of the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum. In this study, com- bined isotope techniques, root length density and root cell activity analysis were used to investigate the root water uptake mechanisms of winter wheat （Triticum aesfivum L.） under different irrigation depths in the North China Plain. Both direct inference approach and multisource linear mixing model were applied to estimate the distribution of water uptake with depth in six growing stages. Results showed that winter wheat under land surface irrigation treatment （Ts） mainly absorbed water from 10-20 cm soil layers in the wintering and green stages （66.9 and 72.0%, respectively）; 0-20 cm （57.0%） in the jointing stage; 0-40 （15.3%） and 80-180 cm （58.1%） in the heading stage; 60-80 （13.2%） and 180-220 cm （35.5%） in the filling stage; and 0-40 （46.8%） and 80-100 cm （31.0%） in the ripening stage. Winter wheat under whole soil layers irrigation treatment （Tw） absorbed more water from deep soil layer than Ts in heading, filling and ripening stages. Moreover, root cell activity and root length density of winter wheat under TW were significantly greater than that of Ts in the three stages. We concluded that distribution of water uptake with depth was affected by the availability of water sources, the root length density and root cell activity. Implementation of the whole soil layers irrigation method can affect root system distribution and thereby increase water use from deeper soil and enhance water use efficiency.

GmPHR1, a Novel Homolog of the AtPHR1 Transcription Factor, Plays a Role in Plant Tolerance to Phosphate Starvation

GmPHR1 from soybean （Glycine max） was isolated and characterized. This novel homolog of the AtPHR1 transcription factor confers tolerance to inorganic phosphate （Pi）-starvation. The gene is 2 751 bp long, with an 819-bp open reading frame and ifve introns. Analysis of transcription activity in yeast revealed that the full-length GmPHR1 and its C-terminal activate the reporter genes for His, Ade and Ura, suggesting that the C-terminal peptide functions as a transcriptional activator. Quantitative real-time PCR indicated that patterns of GmPHR1 expression differed. For example, under low-Pi stress, this gene was quickly induced in the tolerant JD11 after 0.5 h, with expression then decreasing slowly before peaking at 12-24 h. By contrast, induction in the sensitive Niumaohuang （NMH） was slow, peaking at 6 h before decreasing quickly at 9 h. GmPHR1 showed sub-cellular localization in the nuclei of onion epidermal cells and Arabidopsis roots. Growth parameters in wild-type （WT） Arabidopsis plants as well as in overexpression （OE） transgenic lines were examined. Under low-Pi conditions, values for shoot, root and whole-plant dry weights, root to shoot ratios, and lengths of primary roots were signiifcantly greater in OE lines than in the WT. These data demonstrate that GmPHR1 has an important role in conferring tolerance to phosphate starvation.
