Hydromechanical characterization of gas transport amidst uncertainty for underground nuclear explosion detection

Given the challenge of definitively discriminating between chemical and nuclear explosions using seismic methods alone,surface detection of signature noble gas radioisotopes is considered a positive identification of underground nuclear explosions(UNEs).However,the migration of signature radionuclide gases between the nuclear cavity and surface is not well understood because complex processes are involved,including the generation of complex fracture networks,reactivation of natural fractures and faults,and thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical(THMC)coupling of radionuclide gas transport in the *** this study,we provide an experimental investigation of hydro-mechanical(HM)coupling among gas flow,stress states,rock deformation,and rock damage using a unique multi-physics triaxial direct shear rock testing *** testing system also features redundant gas pressure and flow rate measurements,well suited for parameter uncertainty *** porous tuff and tight granite samples that are relevant to historic UNE tests,we measured the Biot effective stress coefficient,rock matrix gas permeability,and fracture gas permeability at a range of pore pressure and stress *** Biot effective stress coefficient varies from 0.69 to 1 for the tuff,whose porosity averages 35.3%±0.7%,while this coefficient varies from 0.51 to 0.78 for the tight granite(porosityx gas permeability is strongly correlated to effective stress for the granite,but not for the porous *** experiments reveal the following key engineering implications on transport of radionuclide gases post a UNE event:(1)The porous tuff shows apparent fracture dilation or compression upon stress changes,which does not necessarily change the gas permeability;(2)The granite fracture permeability shows strong stress sensitivity and is positively related to shear displacement;and(3)Hydromechanical coupling among stress states,rock damage,and gas flow appears to be

In situ TEM investigation of electron irradiation and aging-induced high-density nanoprecipitates in an Mg-10Gd-3Y-1Zn-0.5Zr alloy

In-situ electron irradiation and aging are applied to introduce high-density precipitates in an Mg-10Gd-3Y-1Zn-0.5Zr(GwZ1031K,wt.%)alloy to improve the *** results show that the hardness of the Mg alloy after irradiation for 10 h and aging for 9 h at 250℃ is 1.64 GPa,which is approximately 64% higher than that of the samples before being *** is mainly attributed to γ'precipitates on the basal plane after irradiation and the high-density nanoscale β'precipitates on the prismatic plane after aging,which should be closely related to the irradiation-induced homogenous *** latter plays a key role in precipitation *** result paves a way to improve the mechanical properties of metallic materials by tailoring the precipitation through irradiation and aging.

A Long-Time-Step-Permitting Tracer Transport Model on the Regular Latitude–Longitude Grid

If an explicit time scheme is used in a numerical model, the size of the integration time step is typically limited by the spatial resolution. This study develops a regular latitude–longitude grid-based global three-dimensional tracer transport model that is computationally stable at large time-step sizes. The tracer model employs a finite-volume flux-form semiLagrangian transport scheme in the horizontal and an adaptively implicit algorithm in the vertical. The horizontal and vertical solvers are coupled via a straightforward operator-splitting technique. Both the finite-volume scheme's onedimensional slope-limiter and the adaptively implicit vertical solver's first-order upwind scheme enforce monotonicity. The tracer model permits a large time-step size and is inherently conservative and monotonic. Idealized advection test cases demonstrate that the three-dimensional transport model performs very well in terms of accuracy, stability, and efficiency. It is possible to use this robust transport model in a global atmospheric dynamical core.

Holographic superfluid ring with a weak link

we explore the generation of topological defects in the course of a dynamical phase transition in a ring with a weak link, i.e., a SSS Josephson junction, from the AdS/CFT correspondence. By setting different parameters of the junction(width, steepness,depth) and the final temperature of the quench, the configurations of the charge density and condensate of the order parameters of the dual field theory are presented. Meanwhile, we observe that in the final equilibrium state, variations in parameters of the junctions only affect the configurations of the charge density and condensate of the order parameters, without altering their values outside the junction. However, variations in the final temperature will directly affect the values of the charge density and condensate of the order parameters outside of the junction. Moreover, in the final equilibrium state, we propose an analytic relation between the gauge-invariant velocity in the two superconducting states in the SSS Josephson junction, which agrees well with the numerical results.

Additives strategies to improving cycling stability of li metal batteries by modifying electrode electrolyte interphases

li metal batteries（LMBs） have attracted much attention due to the ultra-high theoretical capacity of the li metal anode（LMA）.However,the uncontrollable dendrites growth and low coulombic efficiency hinder their practical ***,we explore 3,5-difluoropyridine（2F-BD） as a novel electrolyte additive to enable highperformance *** 2F-BD additive participates in and modifies the solvation structure of li ions by reducing the coordinated number of PF6-at the electrode surface,leading to the formation of a liF and li3N-rich solid electrolyte interphase（SEI）.The liF component increases the robustness of SEI and suppresses the formation of li dendrites,while the li3N component facilitates the transportation and reaction kinetics of li *** a result,the li‖li symmetric cell presents a stable cycling performance of up to 500 h at a current density of 1 mA *** coupling with liFePO4cathode,the obtained full cell achieves high specific capacities of 106.06 mA h g-1and 84.98 mA h g-1at 2.55 mA cm-2and 5.10 mA cm-2,respectively,and maintains a high capacity retention of84.0% after 1000 cycles at 0.13 mA cm-2,with an average cycling CE of 99.58%.

The objective of this study is to develop a novel and efficient model for forecasting the nonlinear behavior of structures in response to time-varying random *** key idea is to design a deep learning architecture to leverage the relationships,between external excitations and structure's vibration signals,and between historical values and future values,within multiple time-series *** proposed method consists of two main steps:the first step applies a global attention mechanism to combine multiple-measured time series and time-varying excitation into a weighted time series before feeding it to a temporal architecture;the second step utilizes a self-attention mechanism followed by a fully connected layer to predict multi-step future *** viability of the proposed method is demonstrated via two case studies involving synthetic data from a three-dimensional(3D)reinforced concrete structure and experimental data from an 18-story steel ***,comparison and robustness studies are carried out,showing that the proposed method outperforms conventional methods and maintains high performance in the presence of noise with an amplitude of less than 10%.

The Schrodinger cat state produced differently in two directions is anticipated to be a critical quantum resource in quantum information *** exploring the interplay between quantum nonreciprocity and topology in a one-dimensional microcavity array,we obtain the Schrodinger cat state(a pure quantum state)in a chosen direction at the edge cavity,whereas a classical state in the other *** nonreciprocal generation of the cat state originates from the topologically protected chiralitymode excitation in the nontrivial phase,but in the trivial phase,the nonreciprocal generation of cat state ***,our proposal is switchable by tuning the parameters so that a topological phase transition ***,the obtained cat state has nonreciprocal high fidelity,nonclassicality,and quantum coherence,which are sufficient to be used in various one-way quantum technologies,e.g.,invisible quantum sensing,noise-tolerant quantum computing,and chiral quantum *** work provides a general approach to control quantum nonreciprocities with the topological effect,which substantially broadens the fields of nonreciprocal photonics and topological physics.
