Efficient remediation of different concentrations of Cr-contaminated soils by nano zero-valent iron modified with carboxymethyl cellulose and biochar

Nano zero-valent iron(nZVI)is widely used in soil remediation due to its high ***,the easy agglomeration,poor antioxidant ability and passivation layer of Fe-Cr coprecipitates of nZVI have limited its application scale in Cr-contaminated soil remediation,especially in high concentration of Cr-contaminated ***,we found that the carboxymethyl cellulose on nZVI particles could increase the zeta potential value of soil and change the phase of *** with the presence of biochar,97.0%and 96.6%Cr immobilization efficiency through CMC-nZVI/BC were respectively achieved in high and low concentrations of Cr-contaminated soils after 90-days *** addition,the immobilization efficiency of Cr(VI)only decreased by 5.1%through CMC-nZVI/BC treatment after 10 weeks aging in air,attributing to the strong antioxidation *** for the surrounding Crcontaminated groundwater,the Cr(VI)removal capacity of CMC-nZVI/BC was evaluated under different reaction conditions through column experiments and COMSOl ***-nZVI/BC could efficiently remove 85%of Cr(VI)in about 400 hr when the initial Cr(VI)concentration was 40 mg/l and the flow rate was 0.5 ml/*** study demonstrates that uniformly dispersed CMC-nZVI/BC has an excellent remediation effect on different concentrations of Cr-contaminated soils.

Boosting cationic and anionic redox activity of li-rich layered oxide cathodes via li/Ni disordered regulation

lithium-rich layered oxides (llOs) are increasingly recognized as promising cathode materials for nextgeneration high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries (lIBs).However,they suffer from voltage decay and low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) due to severe structural degradation caused by irreversible O ***,we introduce a three-in-one strategy of increasing Ni and Mn content,along with li/Ni disordering and TM–O covalency regulation to boost cationic and anionic redox activity simultaneously and thus enhance the electrochemical activity of *** target material,li_(1.2)Ni_(0.168)Mn_(0.558)Co_(0.074)O_(2)(l1),exhibits an improved ICE of 87.2%and specific capacity of 293.2 mA h g^(-1)and minimal voltage decay of less than 0.53 m V cycle-1over 300 cycles at 1C,compared to li_(1.2)Ni_(0.13)Mn_(0.54)Co_(0.13)O_(2)(ls)(274.4 mA h g^(-1)for initial capacity,73.8%for ICE and voltage decay of 0.84 mV/cycle over 300 cycles at 1C).Theoretical calculations reveal that the density of states (DOS) area near the Fermi energy level for l1 is larger than that of ls,indicating higher anionic and cationic redox reactivity than ***,l1 exhibits increased O-vacancy formation energy due to higher li/Ni disordering of 4.76%(quantified by x-ray diffraction Rietveld refinement) and enhanced TM–O covalency,making lattice O release more difficult and thus improving electrochemical *** increased li/Ni disordering also leads to more Ni^(2+)presence in the li layer,which acts as a pillar during li+de-embedding,improving structural *** research not only presents a viable approach to designing low-Co llOs with enhanced capacity and ICE but also contributes significantly to the fundamental understanding of structural regulation in high-performance lIB cathodes.

To meet the requirements of electromagnetic(EM)theory and applied physics,this study presents an overview of the state-of-the-art research on obtaining the EM properties of media and points out potential solutions that can break through the bottlenecks of current ***,based on the survey of three mainstream approaches for acquiring EM properties of media,we identify the difficulties when implementing them in realistic *** a focus on addressing these problems and challenges,we propose a novel paradigm for obtaining the EM properties of multi-type media in realistic ***,within this paradigm,we describe the implementation approach of the key technology,namely“multipath extraction using heterogeneous wave propagation data in multi-spectrum cases”.Finally,the latest measurement and simulation results show that the EM properties of multi-type media in realistic environments can be precisely and efficiently acquired by the methodology proposed in this study.

Opinion Dynamics of Sznajd Model on Small-World Network

The society structure plays an important role in shaping the attitudes,beliefs and public *** studying the role of the society structure in opinion dynamics,we analyze the Sznajd model on small-world network formed by adding shortcuts in a lattice consisting of N nodes arranged in a ring and on two-dimensional(2-D)regular *** computer simulation,we find that there exists a pseudo-phase transition from the coexistence state forφφ_(c),whereφ_(c) is some threshold for the shortcut densityφ,which is dependent of the complex network topology and the dimensionality of complex *** observations indicate the dependence of the opinion dynamics on the complex system topology.

Effects of Complex System Topology on the Bak-Sneppen Evolution Model

In this paper, we investigate by numerical simulations the Bak-Sneppenmodel (BSM) for biological evolution on scale-free networks (SFNs) with various degree exponents γ. We find that the punctuated equilibrium is rather robust with respect to the network topology. Furthermore, we analyze the evolution of the criticalaverage fitness h fi ∗ and the exponent τ of h fi 0 avalanche as a function of α (i.e., the degree exponent γ). Our observations indicate the dependence of evolutionary dynamicsof BSM on the complex biosystem topology.

A new Synbiotic supplementation ameliorates ulcerative colitis via modulating microbial homeostasis， protecting intestinal barrier integrity， and maintaining immunity homeostasis in mice

Ulcerative colitis [UC] is established by a chronic， diffuse inflammation of colonic mucosa with poorly defined etiology， and without sufficient treatment or cure available for remission. In this context， there is a growing recognition and consensus that synbiotic supplement may be promising and impactful strategies towards ameliorating UC and related inflammatory disorders， garnering significant attention from researchers as an alternative therapy. Herein， we innovatively prepared a novel synbiotic combination including lactobacillus acidophilus， Bifidobacterium infants and prebiotics konjac glucomannan oligosaccharides [KGMO] to explore the potential therapeutic effects in dextran sodium sulfate [DSS] induced UC mouse model. The results demonstrated that the synbiotic effectively improved colitis symptoms in mice by mitigating weight loss， disease activity index [DAI]， colonic pathological damage， and colonic oxidative stress. it also observed that the synbiotic preserve intestinal barrier function integrity， reduces metabolic endotoxemia as well as inhibits the TlR4/NF-κB， NlRP3/Caspase-1， and Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway. Furthermore， the synbiotic modulated microbial homeostasis directly by enhancing beneficial microbes and reducing potentially harmful bacteria. In addition， microbiome phenotype prediction and bacterial functional potential prediction analysis demonstrated that the synbiotic supplementation regulated gut microbiota function involving inflammatory injury， metabolism， immune response， and pathopoiesia. Especially， the synbiotic not only restored the balance of Th1/Th2 cells as well as Th17/Treg cells along with specific inflammatory factors expression， but also maintained bile acid homeostasis by regulating FxR/FGF15 signaling pathway. Especially important is that the synbiotic was as effective as mesalazine against UC. Permanently shadowed regions(PSRs)on the Moon are potential reservoirs for water ice,making them hot spots for future lunar *** water ice in PSRs would cause distinctive changes in space weathering there,in particular reduction-oxidation processes that diff er from those in illuminated *** determine the characteristics of products formed during space weathering in PSRs,the lunar meteorite NWA 10203 with artifi cially added water was irradiated with a nanosecond laser to simulate a micro-meteorite bombardment of lunar soil containing water *** TEM results of the water-incorporated sample showed distinct amorphous rims that exhibited irregular thickness,poor stratifi cation,the appearance of bubbles,and a reduced number of npFe^(0).Additionally,EElS analysis showed the presence of ferric iron at the rim of the nanophase metallic iron particles(npFe^(0))in the amorphous rim with the involvement of *** results suggest that water ice is another possible factor contributing to oxidation during micrometeorite bombardment on the lunar *** addition,it off ers a reference for a new space weathering model that incorporates water in PSRs,which could be widespread on asteroids with volatiles.
