Effects of nutrient limitations on the sinking velocity of Thalassiosira weissflogii

The sinking of diatoms is critic al to the formation of oceanic biological pumps and coastal hypoxic ***,little is known about the effects of different nutrient restrictions on diatom *** this study,we measured the sinking velocity(SV) of Thalassiosira weissflogii using a new phytoplankton video observation instrument and analyzed major biochemical components under varying nutrient *** results showed that the SV of *** under different nutrient limitation conditions varied *** highest SV of(1.77±0.02) m/d was obtained under nitrate limitation,signific antly surpassing that under phosphate limitation at(0.98±0.13) m/*** the nutrient limitation was released,the SV steadily decreased to(0.32±0.03) m/d and(0.15±0.05) m/d,***;under conditions with limited nitrate and phosphate concentrations,the SV values of *** significantly positively correlated with the lipid content(P change of the phytoplankton SV was primarily related to the intracellular compo sition,which is controlled by nutrient conditions but did not significantly correlate with transparent extracellular polymer and biosilica *** results of this study help to understand the regulation of the vertical sinking process of diatoms by nutrient restriction and provide new insights into phytoplankton dynamics and their relationship with the marine nutrient structure.

Effects of Biostimulation-Bioaugmentation on coastal Microbial community in an in situ Mesocosm System

Globally,various types of pollution affect coastal waters as a result of human *** and biostimulation are effective methods for treating water ***,few studies have explored the response of coastal prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities to bioaugmentation and ***,a 28-day outdoor mesocosm experiment with two treatments(bioaugmentation-A and combined treatment of bioaugmentation and biostimulation-AS)and a control(untreated-c)were carried *** experiment was conducted in Meishan Bay to explore the composition,dynamics,and co-occurrence patterns of prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities in response to the A and AS using 16S rRNA and 18S rRNA gene amplicon *** treatment,Gammaproteobacteria and Epsilonproteobacteria were significantly increased in group AS compared to group c,while Flavobacteriia and Saprospirae were significantly *** was significantly reduced in AS compared to c,while chrysophyta was significantly reduced in both AS and *** to c,the principal response curve analyses of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities both showed an increasing trend followed by a decreasing trend for ***,the trends of prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities in group A were similar to those in group AS compared with group c,but AS changed them more than A *** to the species weight table on principal response curves,a significant increase was observed in beneficial bacteria in prokaryotic communities,such as Rhodobacterales and Oceanospirillales,along with a decrease in autotrophs in eukaryotic communities,such as chrysophyta and *** properties of network analysis reveal that A and AS complicate the interactions between the prokaryotic and eukaryotic ***,these findings expand our understanding of the response pattern of the bioaugmentation and biostimulation on coastal prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities.

Separation density prediction of geldart A^(-)dense medium in gas-solid fluidized bed coal beneficiators

Gas-solid Fluidized Bed coal Beneficiator(GFBcB)process is a crucial dry coal beneficiation fluidization *** work employs the GFBcB process alongside a novel Geldart A^(-)dense medium,consisting of Geldart A magnetite particles and Geldart c ultrafine coal,to separate small-size separated objects in the *** effects of various operational conditions,including the volume fraction of ultrafine coal,the gas velocity,the separated objects size,and the separation time,were investigated on the GFBcB's separation *** results indicated that the probable error for 6∼3 mm separated objects could be controlled within 0.10 g/cm^(3).compared to the traditional Geldart B/D dense medium,the Geldart A/A^(-)dense medium exhibited better size-dependent separation performance with an overall probable error 0.04∼0.12 g/cm^(3).Moreover,it achieved a similar separation accuracy to the Geldart B/D dense medium fluidized bed with different external energy for the small-size object *** work furthermore validated a separation density prediction model based on theoretical derivation,available for both Geldart B/D dense medium and Geldart A/A^(-)dense medium at different operational conditions.

Spatial and Temporal Differences of climate Suitability of Ice and Snow Sports in Major Ski Tourism Destinations in china

Ice and snow tourism in china has grown significantly since the country successfully hosted the Beijing Winter *** conditions profoundly impact the development of ice and snow tourism;however,most studies have focused on constructing different climate suitability indicators for ice and snow tourism to evaluate individual regions,lacking horizontal comparative studies across multiple *** study aims to enrich the connotation of climate suitability for ice and snow sports,establish an evaluation model based on snowfall amount,temperature,and wind speed,and use daily meteorological data from 1991 to 2021 to horizontally compare the climate suitability for ice and snow sports in major ski tourism destinations in *** study boasts four major findings:1)the average ice and snow sports climate index of each region decreases over time,and the overall suitability of the climate for ice and snow sports is reducing;2)northern xinjiang exhibits the most evident regional differentiation from‘very suitable’to‘generally suitable’;3)the spatial zoning of climate suitability for ice and snow sports exhibits heterogeneity,as northern xinjiang is divided into two‘suitable and above’zones with rotating empirical orthogonal function(REOF).correspondingly,the four provinces of Hebei,Heilongjiang,Jilin,and Liaoning are divided into three‘generally suitable and above’zones;4)snowfall amount is the main factor affecting the climate suitability of ice and snow sports in the major ski tourist destinations in china.

Numerical and experimental investigation on hydraulic-electric rock fragmentation of heterogeneous granite

Hydraulic-electric rock fragmentation(HERF)plays a significant role in improving the efficiency of high voltage pulse rock ***,the underlying mechanism of HERF remains *** this study,considering the heterogeneity of the rock,microscopic thermodynamic properties,and shockwave time domain waveforms,based on the shockwave model,digital imaging technology and the discrete element method,the cyclic loading numerical simulations of HERF is achieved by coupling electrical,thermal,and solid mechanics under different formation temperatures,confining pressure,initial peak voltage,electrode bit diameter,and loading ***,the HERF discharge system is conducive to the laboratory experiments with various electrical parameters and the resulting broken pits are numerically reconstructed to obtain the geometric *** results show that,the completely broken area consists of powdery rock *** the pre-broken zone,the mineral cementation of the rock determines the transition of type cⅠcracks to type cⅡand type cⅢ***,the peak pressure of the shockwave increased with initial peak voltage but decreased with electrode bit diameter,while the wave front time ***,increasing well depth,formation temperature and confining pressure augment and inhibit HERF,but once confining pressure surpassed the threshold of 60 MPa for 152.40,215.90,and 228.60 mm electrode bits,and 40 MPa for 309.88 mm electrode bits,HERF is ***,for the same kind of rock,the volume and width of the broken pit increase with higher initial peak voltage and rock fissures will promote ***,the electrode drill bit with a 215.90 mm diameter is more suitable for drilling pink *** research contributes to a better microscopic understanding of HERF and provides valuable insights for electrode bit selection,as well as the optimization of circuit parameters for HERF technology.

Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)with high energy densities have been demonstrated the potential for energy-intensive demand ***,their commercial applicability is hampered by hysteretic electrode reaction kinetics and the shuttle effect of lithium polysulfides(LiPSs).In this work,an interlayer consisting of high-entropy metal oxide(cu_(0.7)Fe_(0.6)Mn_(0.4)Ni_(0.6)Sn_(0.5))O_(4) grown on carbon nanofibers(HEO/cNFs)is designed for *** cNFs with highly porous networks provide transport pathways for Li^(+) and e^(-),as well as a physical sieve effect to limit LiPSs *** particular,the grapevine-like HEO nanoparticles generate metal-sulfur bonds with LiPSs,efficiently anchoring active *** unique structure and function of the interlayer enable the LSBs with superior electrochemical performance,i.e.,the high specific capacity of 1381 mAh g^(-1) at 0.1 c and 561 mAh g^(-1) at 6 *** work presents a facile strategy for exploiting high-performance LSBs.

cu_(2)Se@c thin film with three-dimensional braided structure as a cathode material for enhanced cu^(2+) storage

In the face of multiple challenges brought by the changes of global climate and environment,developing clean energy and updating green energy storage equipment are important ways to achieve carbon peak and carbon *** batteries have become a research hotspot due to their advantages of using the multivalent charge carrier,high ionic conductivity,environmental friendliness and cost *** this work,the cu_(2)Se@c(cu_(2)Se coated on carbon clothes)thin film with a three-dimensional braided structure is fabricated by a simple electrochemical deposition method for cu^(2+)storage for the first *** with the commercial cu_(2)Se powder,the well-designed cu_(2)Se@c film shows enhanced specific capacity(640 mAh/g at 0.5 A/g)and rate performance(542 mAh/g at 5 A/g)as well as superior cycling stability(82.7%capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1 A/g).The cu^(2+)storage mechanism of the cu_(2)Se@c electrode is based on a reversible phase transition process of cu_(2)Se←→cu_(2-x)Se←→cuSe←→cuSe_(2).In kinetic characteristic analysis,the cu_(2)Se@c electrode demonstrates faster cu^(2+)diffusion in discharge process than charge process resulting from the phase transition and the variation of interplanar *** work highlights a facile one-piece design strategy and opens a new gateway for the exploration of advanced aqueous energy storage systems.

Alterations of soil aggregates and intra-aggregate organic carbon fractions after soil conversion from paddy soils to upland soils:Distribution,mineralization and driving mechanism

Investigating the impacts of soil conversion on soil organic carbon(Oc) content and its fractions within soil aggregates is essential for defining better strategies to improve soil structure and Oc sequestration in terrestrial ecosystems. However, the consequences of soil conversion from paddy soil to upland soil for soil aggregates and intra-aggregate Oc pools are poorly understood. Therefore, the objective of this study was to quantify the effects of soil conversion on soil aggregate and intra-aggregate Oc pool distributions. Four typical rice-producing areas were chosen in North and South china, paired soil samples(upland soil converted from paddy soil more than ten years ago vs. adjacent paddy soil) were collected(0–20 cm) with three replicates in each area. A set of core parameters(Oc preservation capacity, aggregate carbon(c) turnover, and biological activity index) were evaluated to assess the responses of intra-aggregate Oc turnover to soil conversion. Results showed that soil conversion from paddy soil to upland soil significantly improved the formation of macro-aggregates and increased aggregate stability. It also notably decreased soil intra-aggregate Oc pools, including easily oxidized Oca(EOca), particulate Oca(POca), and mineral-bound(MOca) Oc, and the sensitivity of aggregate-associated Oc pools to soil conversion followed the order: EOca(average reduction of 21.1%) > MOca(average reduction of 15.4%) > POca(average reduction of 14.8%). The potentially mineralizable c(c_(0)) was significantly higher in upland soil than in paddy soil, but the corresponding decay constant(k) was lower in upland soil than in paddy soil. Random forest model and partial correlation analysis showed that EOca and pH were the important nutrient and physicochemical factors impacting k of c mineralization in paddy soil,while MOca and c-related enzyme(β-D-cellobiohydrolase) were identified as the key factors in upland soil. Enhancement and Removal of PM_(2.5)by cold and Warm Air Masses Accompanying certain Synoptic Weather Systems across Hangzhou,china during 2014-2020

Local air pollution is strongly affected by synoptic weather systems,such as fronts,troughs,low-altitude vortices,or high-altitude ***,few studies have analyzed the meteorological properties of cold or warm air masses associated to these systems and their impact on local air *** this study,hourly observations of fine particulate matter(diameter of up to 2.5µm,i.e.,PM_(2.5)),wind(V),temperature(T),pressure(P),and precipitation(R),acquired in Hangzhou in 2014-2020,were *** this analysis,weather patterns were categorized into 27 types;89 and 94 cases illustrating the passage of warm and cold air masses over Hangzhou were identified,respectively;the influence of air mass temperature,wind speed,and wind direction on PM_(2.5) concentrations and local accumulation or removal was *** main results are as follows.(1)Pollution events occurred more frequently for cold than for warm air masses,but average pollutant concentration was lower for cold air masses;(2)48%of the cold air mass cases corresponded to PM_(2.5) decreases and 52%to PM_(2.5) increases,with strong cold air masses(ΔT_(24h)>4°c;∣V∣_(average)>4 m s^(−1))markedly reducing local pollution,but weak cold air masses(ΔT24hc;∣V∣_(averagecing pollutant transport and accumulation;(3)for warm air masses,PM_(2.5)accumulation or removal occurred in 60%and 40%of the cases,respectively:warm air masses(ΔT24h>4°c)reduced the PM_(2.5) concentration whereas weaker winds(∣V∣_(average)creased it;and(4)PM_(2.5) concentration decreased sharply within 4 h after the passage of strong cold air masses,but more gradually within 14 h after the passage of strong warm air *** results considerably improve the current understanding of the influence of cold and warm air masses on local pollution patterns.
