Development of the telencephalon relies upon several signaling centers-localized cellular populations that supply secreted factors to pattern the cortical *** such signaling center is the cortical hem,which arises during embryonic development at the telencephalic dorsal midline,adjacent to the choroid plex.s and hippocampal primordium(Figure 1A).While the cortical hem has also been described in reptiles and birds,most of our knowledge about the developmental roles of the cortical hem is derived from the analysis in *** cortical hem produces several types of secreted molecules,including wingless-related integration site(Wnt)and bone morphogenetic(Bmp)*** cortical hem is particularly important for the development of the hippocampus,which is involved in learning and memory,and the neocortex.which is the most complex.brain region that mediates multiple types of behavior and higher cognitive functions(Mangale et al.,2008;dal-valle-Anton and Borrell,2022).

Snags are an important component of beech forests that promote ***,their occurrence is completely marginal in managed *** snags in these stands would greatly enhance *** investigated whether snag dimensions were important for saprox.lic beetle richness since they were easily transferable parameters to forest management and assessed the presence of other snag microhabitats affecting beetle *** collection was performed using passive flight traps placed on thirty snags in a recent beech reserve.A total of 6706 adults belonging to 231 saprox.lic species(53 Red List species,23%)were *** results showed that the most important snag parameters were the diameter(thickness)and canopy openness of the surrounding *** occurrence of Fomes fomentarius,the volume of snag and decay class 3 were marginally significant in terms of the preference of all saprox.lic *** diversity was reduced by an advanced degree of decay and a surprisingly deep stem *** dividing snag thickness into categories(70 cm DBH),we found that categories with snag diameter greater than 35 cm showed little differences in all saprox.lic and Red List species richness and diversity indices and ex.ibited the highest similarity in beetle *** recommendations to forest managers in terms of optimization and simplification of practical procedures,we suggest actively creating high stumps to act as snags greater than 35 cm in DBH diameter to promote biodiversity in beech management stands.

Over the past century,age-related diseases,such as cancer,type-2 diabetes,obesity,and mental illness,have shown a significant increase,negatively impacting overall quality of *** on aged animal models have unveiled a progressive discoordination at multiple regulatory levels,including transcriptional,translational,and post-translational processes,resulting from cellular stress and circadian *** circadian clock emerges as a key regulator,sustaining physiological homeostasis and promoting healthy aging through timely molecular coordination of pivotal cellular processes,such as stem-cell function,cellular stress responses,and inter-tissue communication,which become disrupted during *** the crucial role of hypothalamic circuits in regulating organismal physiology,metabolic control,sleep homeostasis,and circadian rhythms,and their dependence on these processes,strategies aimed at enhancing hypothalamic and circadian function,including pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches,offer systemic benefits for healthy *** brain-directed drug administration represents a promising avenue for effectively targeting specific brain regions,like the hypothalamus,while reducing side effects associated with systemic drug delivery,thereby presenting new therapeutic possibilities for diverse age-related conditions.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) is an incurable lethal disease whose incidence rate is growing. There is no effective screening for detection of early stage tumors and,in most cases,PDAC is diagnosed at advanced disease stages,when radical pancreatic resection is not possible. The aggressive nature of pancreatic tumor cells lies in the complex.genetic mechanisms behind their uncontrolled capability to grow and metastasize,which involve essential adaptive changes in cellular metabolism,signaling,adhesion and immunoediting. In addition,PDAC cells promote a dense functional stroma that facilitates tumor resistance to chemotherapy and radiation. During the last two decades,gemcitabine has been the reference for the systemic treatment of PDAC. However,recently,a regimen combining fluorouracil,irinotecan,ox.liplatin,and leucovorin(FOLFIRINOx. and another combining albumin-bound paclitax.l with gemcitabine have shown clear therapeutic advantage in advanced PDAC,with survival outcomes of 11.3 and 8.5 mo on phase Ⅲ trials,respectively,over singleagent gemcitabine. With the pending issue of their higher tox.cities,these regimens set the reference for ongoing and future clinical studies in advanced PDAC. In addition,the efficacy of oral fluoropyrimidine(S-1) has been well documented in Asiatic PDAC patients. The development of therapeutic approaches other than cytotox.c drugs has proven difficult in the past,with only one drug(erlotinib) approved to date. Besides,a number of agents targeting signaling pathways in tumor or stroma cells are being investigated. Likewise,immunotherapies that target PDAC in various ways are the subject of a number of clinical trials. The search for reliable biomarkers with diagnostic and prognostic value using genomics and mass spectrometry methods may facilitate monitoring and refinement of therapies. This review focuses on current understanding of the pathogenesis of PDAC and the latest developments in the treatment of advanced PDAC.

Diversity of click beetles in managed nonnative coniferous and native beech stands: Consequences of changes in the structural and species composition of tree stands in Central Europe

The natural composition of forests has undergone significant changes over recent centuries.A closer-to-natural tree species composition has long been perceived as key to a high *** investigated the impact on communities of click beetles(Elateridae)caused by changes in the tree species composition of spruce monocultures compared to reference sites of recently unmanaged natural beech *** collect data,passive interception traps were distributed within managed spruce stands of different age classes and natural beech forests of various developmental *** beetle species richness was slightly but not significantly higher in the beech *** saprox.lic species group was significantly more common in the spruce stands,whereas the group of nonsaprox.lic species was significantly more abundant in the beech *** the commercial stands,the significantly highest species richness was in the clearings(0–10-year-old stands),and at this forest age class,the vast majority of the beetle species occurred in the spruce *** the developmental stages of the natural forest,a slightly higher beetle richness was found at the disintegration *** study results suggested that different tree species compositions and stand structures affect the communities of click beetles and substantially change their species composition and thus their response to ex.ernal ***,management of stands using diverse silvicultural systems is recommended for creating diverse ecological niches in forests.

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury still represents an important cause of morbidity following hepatic surgery and limits the use of marginal livers in hepatic transplantation. Transient blood flow interruption followed by reperfusion protects tissues against damage induced by subsequent I/R. This process known as ischemic pre-conditioning (IP) depends upon intrinsic cytoprotective systems whose activation can inhibit the progression of irreversible tissue damage. Compared to other organs,liver IP has additional features as it reduces inflammation and promotes hepatic regeneration. Our present understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in liver IP is still largely incomplete. Ex.erimental studies have shown that the protective effects of liver IP are triggered by the release of adenosine and nitric ox.de and the subsequent activation of signal networks involving protein kinases such as phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase,protein kinase C δ/ε and p38 MAP kinase,and transcription factors such as signal transducer and activator of transcription 3,nuclear factor-κB and hypox.a-inducible factor 1. This article offers an overview of the molecular events underlying the preconditioning effects in the liver and points to the possibility of developing pharmacological approaches aimed at activating the intrinsic protective systems in patients undergoing liver surgery.

The origin of inflammatory bowel disease is unknown. Attempts have been made to isolate a microorganism that could ex.lain the onset of inflammation, but no pathological agent has ever been identified. Johne&#x.2019;s disease is a granulomatous chronic enteritis of cattle and sheep caused by Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) and shows some analogies with Crohn&#x.2019;s disease (CD). Several studies have tried to clarify if MAP has a role in the etiology of CD. The present article provides an overview of the evidence in favor and against the &#x.201c;MAP-hypothesis&#x.201d;, analyzing the methods commonly adopted to detect MAP and the role of antimycobacterial therapy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Studies were identified through the electronic database, MEDLINE, and were selected based on their relevance to the objective of the review. The presence of MAP was investigated using multiple diagnostic methods for MAP detection and in different tissue samples from patients affected by CD or ulcerative colitis and in healthy controls. On the basis of their studies, several authors support a close relationship between MAP and CD. Although increasing evidence of MAP detection in CD patients is unquestionable, a clear etiological link still needs to be proven.

AIM:To evaluate the effects of tenofovir disoprox.l fumarate(TDF)use during late pregnancy to reduce hepatitis B virus(HBv)transmission in highly viremic ***:This retrospective study included 45 pregnant patients with hepatitis B e antigen(+)chronic hepatitis B and HBv DNA levels>107copies/mL who received TDF 300 mg/d from week 18 to 27 of gestation(n=21).Untreated pregnant patients served as controls(n =24).All infants received 200 IU of hepatitis B immune globulin(HBIG)within 24 h postpartum and 20μg of recombinant HBv vaccine at 4,8,and 24 *** transmission rate was determined by hepatitis B surface antigen and HBv DNA results in infants at week ***:At week 28,none of the infants of TDFtreated mothers had immunoprophylax.s failure,whereas2(8.3%)of the infants of control mothers had immunoprophylax.s failure(P=0.022).There were no differences between the groups in terms of adverse events in mothers or congenital deformities,gestational age,height,or weight in *** postpartum week 28,significantly more TDF-treated mothers had levels of HBv DNAvs none,Pvs 61%,P=0.012,respectively).CONCLUSION:TDF therapy during the second or third trimester reduced perinatal transmission rates of HBv and no adverse events were observed in mothers or infants.
