Focal mechanics and disaster characteristics of the 2024 M 7.6 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, Japan

On January 1, 2024, a devastating M 7.6 earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, resulting in significant casualties and property damage. Utilizing information from the first six days after the earthquake, this article analyzes the seismic source characteristics, disaster situation, and emergency response of this earthquake. The results show: 1) The earthquake rupture was of the thrust type, with aftershock distribution showing a north-east-oriented belt-like feature of 150 km. 2) Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), observations detected significant westward to north-westward co-seismic displacement near the epicenter, with the maximum horizontal displacement reaching 1.2 m and the vertical uplift displacement reaching 4 m. A two-segment fault inversion model fits the observational data well. 3) Near the epicenter, large Peak Ground Velocity (PGV) and Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) were observed, with the maxima reaching 145 cm/s and 2681 gal, respectively, and the intensity reached the highest level 7 on the Japanese (Japan Meteorological Agency, JMA) intensity standard, which is higher than level 10 of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) standard. 4) The observation of the very rare multiple strong pulse-like ground motion (PLGM) waveform poses a topic worthy of research in the field of earthquake engineering. 5) As of January 7, the earthquake had left 128 deaths and 560 injuries in Ishikawa Prefecture, with 1305 buildings completely or partially destroyed, and had triggered a chain of disasters including tsunamis, fires, slope failures, and road damage. Finally, this paper summarizes the emergency rescue, information dissemination, and other disaster response and management measures taken in response to this earthquake. This work provides a reference case for carrying out effective responses, and offers lessons for handling similar events

2024年1月1日,日本能登半岛发生7.6级地震,造成了重大人员伤亡与财产损失,本文利用震后3 d的信息,快速分析了此次地震的震源特征、受灾情况和应急响应工作。结果显示:(1)地震破裂方式为逆冲型,余震分布呈现NE向带状特征,范围约150 km;(2) GNSS观测到震中附近显著的W-WN同震位移,最大水平位移达1.2 m,两段断层反演模型能够较好地拟合观测数据;(3)震中附近观测到了较大的峰值地面速度(PGV)和峰值地面加速度(PGA),最大达到145 cm/s和2681 cm/s^(2),同时烈度达到日本标准最高值(7度),并且能登半岛附近绝大部分地区的烈度都在5强以上(日本烈度标准的从高到低第4档);(4)截至1月3日,此次地震已造成了日本石川县73人死亡,323人受伤,183栋房屋全毁或半毁,并引发了海啸、火灾、边坡破坏、道路受损等灾害链。最后,本文简要总结了针对此次地震的紧急救援、信息发布等灾害应对和管理措施。此项工作为理解地震机理、研究灾害成因以及开展有效应对措施提供了参考,为未来类似事件的处置提供了借鉴。

Effects of propyl gallate on interaction between TNF-α and sTNFR-I using an affinity biosensor

Aim: To study the effects of propyl gallate on the interaction of tumor necrosisfactor-α(TNF-α) with its soluble receptor, sTNFR-I. Methods: Interactions between TNF-α and sTNFR-I were analyzed using an IAsys biosensor, sTNFR-Iwas immobilized on the carboxymethyl dextran (CMD) surface of the IAsys biosensor cuvettes, and TNF-α preincubated with different concentrations of propylgallate was added to the cuvettes. The resonant angle shift caused by the bindingbetween TNF-α and sTNFR-I was then recorded. Results: sTNFR-I was immobilized on the CMD surface at a density of 2.76 ng/mm~2. TNF-α then bound theimmobilized sTNFR-I specifically, and propyl gallate was able to enhance thebinding between TNF-α and sTNFR-Iin a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion:The binding between TNF-α and sTNFR-I is one of the targets that propyl gallatecan act on in vivo. The IAsys biosensor offers a new clue as to the study on themechanisms of action of propyl gallate.

Exclusive Hypothesis Testing for Cox's Proportional Hazards Model

Exclusive hypothesis testing is a new and special class of hypothesis testing. This kind of testing can be applied in survival analysis to understand the association between genomics information and clinical information about the survival time. Besides, it is well known that Cox's proportional hazards model is the most commonly used model for regression analysis of failure time. In this paper,the authors consider doing the exclusive hypothesis testing for Cox's proportional hazards model with right-censored data. The authors propose the comprehensive test statistics to make decision, and show that the corresponding decision rule can control the asymptotic Type Ⅰ errors and have good powers in theory. The numerical studies indicate that the proposed approach works well for practical situations and it is applied to a set of real data arising from Rotterdam Breast Cancer Data study that motivated this study.

Grid-based recommendation algorithms view users and items as abstract nodes,and the information utilised by the algorithm is hidden in the selection relationships between users and *** these relationships can be easily handled,much useful information is overlooked,resulting in a less accurate recommendation *** aim of this paper is to propose improvements on the standard substance diffusion algorithm,taking into account the influence of the user’s rating on the recommended item,adding a moderating factor,and optimising the initial resource allocation vector and resource transfer matrix in the recommendation *** average ranking score evaluation index is introduced to quantify user satisfaction with the recommendation *** are conducted on the MovieLens training dataset,and the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms classical collaborative filtering systems and network structure based recommendation systems in terms of recommendation accuracy and hit rate.

Safety issues related to flammable electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) remain a major challenge for their extended *** use of non-flammable phosphate-based electrolytes has proved the validity in inhibiting the combustion of ***,the strong interaction between Li^(+) and phosphate leads to a dominant solid electrolyte interphase(SEI) with limited electronic shielding,resulting in the poor Li^(+) intercalation at the graphite(Gr) anode when using high-phosphate-content *** mitigate this issue and improve Li^(+) insertion,we propose an “In-N-Out” strategy to render phosphates “noncoordinative”.By employing a combination of strongly polar solvents for a “block effect” and weakly polar solvents for a “drag effect”,we reduce the Li^(+)–phosphate *** a result,phosphates remain in the electrolyte phase(“In”),minimizing their impact on the incompatibility with the Gr electrode(“Out”).We have developed a non-flammable electrolyte with high triethyl phosphate(TEP) content(>60 wt.%),demonstrating the excellent ion conductivity(5.94 mS cm^(-1) at 30 ℃) and reversible Li^(+) intercalation at a standard concentration(~1 mol L^(-1)).This approach enables the manipulation of multiple electrolyte functions and holds the promise for the development of safe electrochemical energy storage systems using non-flammable electrolytes.

Single-photon laser ranging has widespread applications in remote sensing and target ***,highly sensitive light detection and ranging(lidar)has long been restricted in the visible or near-infrared *** appealing quest is to extend the operation wavelength into the mid-infrared(MIR)region,which calls for an infrared photon-counting system at high detection sensitivity and precise temporal ***,we devise and demonstrate an MIR upconversion lidar based on nonlinear asynchronous optical ***,the infrared probe is interrogated in a nonlinear crystal by a train of pump pulses at a slightly different repetition rate,which favors temporal optical scanning at a picosecond timing resolution and a kilohertz refreshing rate ***,the cross-correlation upconversion trace is temporally stretched by a factor of 2×10^(4),which can thus be recorded by a low-bandwidth silicon *** combination with the time-correlated photon-counting technique,the achieved effective resolution is about two orders of magnitude better than the timing jitter of the detector itself,which facilitates a ranging precision of 4μm under a low detected flux of 8×10^(−5) photons per *** presented MIR time-of-flight range finder is featured with single-photon sensitivity and high positioning resolution,which would be particularly useful in infrared sensing and imaging in photon-starved scenarios.

Preparation of Self-limiting Heating Cables with Excellent Processability, Mechanical Properties and PTC Effect via Thermal and Electrical Treatments

Polymer/conductive filler composites have been widely used for the preparation of self-limiting heating cables with the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) effect. The control of conductive filler distribution and network in polymer matrix is the most critical for performance of PTC materials. In order to compensate for the destruction of the filler network structure caused by strong shearing during processing, an excessive conductive filler content is usually added into the polymer matrix, which in turn sacrifices its processability and mechanical properties. In this work, a facile post-treatment of the as-extruded cable, including thermal and electrical treatment to produce high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/carbon black (CB) cable with excellent PTC effect, is developed. It is found for the as-extruded sample, the strong shearing makes the CB particles disperse uniformly in HDPE matrix, and 25 wt% CB is needed for the formation of conductive paths. For the thermal-treated sample, a gradually aggregated CB filler structure is observed, which leads to the improvement of PTC effect and the notable reduction of CB content to 20 wt%. It is very interesting to see that for the sample with combined thermal and electrical treatment, CB particles are agglomerated and oriented along the electric field direction to create substantial conductive paths, which leads to a further decrease of CB content down to 15 wt%. In this way, self-limiting heating cables with excellent processability, mechanical properties and PTC effect have simultaneously been achieved.

Experimental study on shock interaction control of double wedge in high-enthalpy hypersonic flow subject to plasma synthetic jet

The hypersonic shock-shock interaction flow field at double-wedge geometries controlled by plasma synthetic jet actuator is experimentally studied in a Ma = 8 high-enthalpy shock tunnel with the purpose of exploring a novel technique for reducing surface heat flux in a real flight environment. The results demonstrate that increasing the discharge energy is advantageous in eliminating the shock wave, shifting the shock wave interaction point, and shortening the control response time. The oblique shock wave can be completely removed when the actuator's discharge energy grows from 0.4 J to 11.5 J, and the displacement of the shock wave interaction point increases by 124.56%, while the controlled response time is shortened by 30 μs. Besides, the reduction in diameter of the jet exit is firstly proved to have a negative impact on energy deposition in a working environment with incoming flow, which reduces the discharge energy and hence decreases the control effect. The shock wave control response time lengthens when the jet exits away from the second wedge. Along with comparing the change in wall heat flux at the second wedge over time, the control effect of plasma synthetic jet actuator with and without inflation is also analyzed. When plasma synthetic jet works in inflatable mode, both the ability to eliminate shock waves and the shifting effect of the shock wave interaction point are increased significantly, and the wall heat flux is also reduced.
