This review summarizes recent progress in developing wireless,batteryless,fully implantable biomedical devices for real-time continuous physiological signal monitoring,focusing on advancing human health *** considerations,such as biological constraints,energy sourcing,and wireless communication,are discussed in achieving the desired performance of the devices and enhanced interface with human *** addition,we review the recent achievements in materials used for developing implantable systems,emphasizing their importance in achieving multi-functionalities,biocompatibility,and *** wireless,batteryless devices offer minimally invasive device insertion to the body,enabling portable health monitoring and advanced disease ***,we summarize the most recent practical applications of advanced implantable devices for human health care,highlighting their potential for immediate commercialization and clinical uses.

Objectives Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multifactorial disease. Environmental factors such as viral infection(s) have been proposed as pathaetiological factors. There are particular interests in studying lymphotropic viruses such as the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). Although previous case reports and in vitro studies suggested that they may have a role, there is no direct evidence that onset of SLE or disease exacerbation is associated with active infection by these viruses. Using the very sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, we tried to find out evidence of active replication of these viruses in patients with SLE. Methods Thirty-four patients with SLE were compared with matched normal controls. Eleven patients were newly diagnosed to have SLE and 18 of the 34 patients had active disease as determined by a SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) score of ≥10 at the time of study. Results Our results showed no evidence of active replication or reactivation of EBV in the leucocytes amongst the newly diagnosed SLE patients, established SLE patients, patients with SLEDAI ≥10, patients with SLEDAI <10, and control subjects. There was no evidence of CMV infection in any of the subjects studied. The IgG and IgA responses against EBV early antigen (EA) and viral capsid antigen (VCA) were also studied. The IgG and IgA responses against VCA of EBV were increased in patients with SLE when compared with controls. However, there were no differences in these responses among different subgroups of patients. The mechanism of these responses was not apparent but may represent non-specific hyperimmune responses in these patients. There were no differences in the titre of IgG and IgA against EBV EA between the patient groups and *** There is no direct evidence that either EBV or CMV plays a direct role in the onset and/or exacerbation of SLE.

In this paper, Pt-Co_3O_4 nanocomposite was synthesized by a sol gel process combined with electrodeposition method. Its electrocatalytic activity towards methanol oxidation was investigated at room temperature using cyclic voltammetry(CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and current density time curve. It is found that the resultant Pt-Co_3O_4 catalysts with minute amount of Pt exhibite attractive electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation reaction(MOR) but with a high resistance CO poisoning due to the synergistic effects from Pt and Co_3O_4. Together with the low manufacturing cost of Co_3O_4, the reported nanostructured Pt-Co_3O_4 catalyst is expected to be a promising electrode material for direct methanol fuel cells(DMFC).

Existing Metal Additive Manufacturing processes are fast approaching a matured stage in which a wide range of possibilities are available for the incorporation of the rapid fabrication technology to current industrial practices. In terms of design conventions, the limitless geometrical freedom allows complex structures including cellular internal grids and lattices to be formed without additional tooling. Repair parts and leveraging components can also be produced on demand when required especially for military assets where large volume of inventory is constantly maintained to ensure operational readiness. In this exemplary work, a feasibility study on using stainless steel material with integrated cellular design to manufacture a guide bracket found on a military vehicle via Selective Laser Melting process was conducted. The results showed appreciably better mechanical performance in using a stainless steel honeycomb as compared to the aluminum alloy used for the original component together with a faster production route through SLM.

Feasibility of enhanced phytoextraction of Zn contaminated soil with Zn mobilizing and plant growth promoting endophytic bacteria

Three bacterial endophytes of Sedum alfredii, VI8L2, II8L4 and VI8R2, were examined for promoting soil Zn bioavailability and Zn accumulation in S. alfredii. Results showed that three strains were re-introduced into S. alfredii rhizosphere soils under Zn stress and resulted in better plant growth, as roots biomass increased from 80% to 525% and shoot biomass from 11% to 47% compared with the uninoculated ones. Strains IVsLz, II8L4 and IVsR2 significantly increased shoot and root Zn concentrations in the ZnCO3 contaminated soil. Inoculation with strain IVsL2 resulted in 44% and 39% higher shoot and root Zn concentrations, while strain IV8R2 significantly decreased shoot Zn concentration in the Zn3（PO4）2 contaminated soils. In the aged contaminated soil, isolates IVsL2, IIsL4 and IVsR2 significantly increased root Zn concentration, but decreased shoot Zn concentration of Sedum alfredii. It suggested that endophytes might be used for enhancing phytoextraction efficiency.

In wrist pathology, there is a need to establish the normal range of radiographic measurement parameters. Previous study showed that the contralateral wrist might not be valid as a reference for all parameters. There is a lack of literature describing the normal range of wrist radiographic parameters in literature. As a result, a retrospective study was carried out. Patients who underwent standard wrist x-rays during the period February 2012 to February 2013 (one single year) were retrospectively reviewed. 71 patients were included. Scapholunate angle was 54.7° (±6.5°). Scapholunate interval was 2.0 mm (±0.4 mm). Ulnar variance was +1.0 mm (±1.8 mm). Carpal height was 31.8 mm (±3.0 mm). Radial inclination was 25.1° (±2.1°). All 71 patients had 1 sesamoid bone at first metacarpal. 16.9% (12 out of 71) patients had positive cortical ring signs. All these parameters are valuable clinically, especially in monitoring of the wrist disease progression, in the design of wrist implants and for future clinical research.

This study aims to investigate the phenomenon of technological gadget usage among pre-university students,which include the time spent using them,as well as their purpose and inﬂuence.A descriptive research design was adopted in this study.131 pre-university students were randomly selected to answer a structured *** were informed two weeks earlier to keep track on their time spent on technological devices,before answering the *** showed that 99.2%of the respondents owned at least two technological gadgets,and all respondents own a *** main two gadgets that respondents spend at least 4 h a day on are smartphones(65.6%)and computers/laptops(21.4%).This indicates that smartphones are commonly used and owned among the *** majority of the respondents are moderately nomophobia and moderately dependent on smartphones(70.2%and 66.4%,respectively).Correlation analysis demonstrates that the total time spent on gadgets in a day has a signiﬁcant positive correlation with gadget dependency and total number of gadgets ***,logistic regression was conducted to estimate the probability of nomophobia and dependency using total time spent and total number of technological *** theﬁndings,it was demonstrated that when the total time spent on using technological gadgets increasing,there is greater probability that the respondents develop nomophobia and *** indicates that nomophobia and dependency to technological gadgets can be used to predict lifestyle proﬁ*** use of technological gadgets can bring both beneﬁt and harm to its *** light of this,user has to remain rational in order to derive maximum beneﬁt from it.
