Vitamin D3 up-regulated protein 1 （VDUP1） is a multifunctional protein involved in maintaining cellular homeostasis. VDUP1 is induced by a variety of stresses. Inversely, VDUP1 is often reduced in various tumor tissues and cell lines. Over-expression of VDUP1 inhibits cell proliferation through cell cycle arrest. VDUP1 interacts with thioredoxin （Trx） and negatively regulates the expression and antioxidant function of Trx which is involved in redox regulation. VDUP1/ mice are more susceptible to carcinogenesis than wild-type mice and are defective in establishing immune system induding the development and function of natural killer cells. Furthermore, VDUP1^-/- mice show impaired Kreb cycle-mediated fatty acid utilization. In this review, we have discussed the multifunctional roles of VDUP1 in diverse cellular responses, in particular its relation to proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and diseases such as cancer and stress-related diseases.

The ride vibration of a tractor is affected mostly by the stiffness and damping coefficient of the seat suspension,cabin suspension,cabin rubber mounts,and rubber ***,in the case of rubber tractor tires,the stiffnesses and damping coefficients have not been researched adequately thus far,and it is not simple to measure these *** this study,a method for measuring and analyzing the stiffnesses and damping coefficients of rubber tractor tires,which were the input parameters for the tractor ride vibration simulation,was *** cleat test,proposed in this study,did not require separate and complicated test equipment,unlike the conventional *** test was conducted simply by measuring acceleration under the driving conditions of the vehicle without detaching tires from the vehicle body or setting up additional test *** on the ground-vertical acceleration data obtained,the stiffness was calculated using the logarithmic decrement method,and the damping coefficient was calculated using least squares exponential curve *** result of the cleat test indicated that the front tires had stiffnesses of 486.08-570.69 kN/m and damping coefficients of 4.02-4.52 kN·s/m;the rear tires had stiffnesses of 409.42-483.79 kN/m and damping coefficients of 2.21-2.67 kN·s/*** the test,40 mm height cleats were installed on the track and the speed of the tractor was set to 7 and 10 km/h,which were the most common speeds during the *** study is meaningful in that it has presented a new method that improves the practicality of results,reduces cost,and simplifies the test process for measuring the stiffnesses and damping coefficients of rubber tractor tires.

BACKGROUND Endometriosis is a common disease for women of reproductive age. However,when it involves intestines, it is difficult to diagnose preoperatively because its symptoms overlap with other diseases and the results of evaluations can be unspecific. Thus it is important to know the clinical characteristics of intestinal endometriosis and how to exactly *** To analyze patients in whom intestinal endometriosis was diagnosed after surgical treatments, and to evaluate the clinical characteristics of preoperatively misdiagnosed *** We retrospectively reviewed the pathologic reports of 30 patients diagnosed as having intestinal endometriosis based on surgical specimens between January2000 and December 2017. We reviewed their clinical characteristics and surgical *** Twenty-three(76.6%) patients showed symptoms associated with endometriosis,with dysmenorrhea being the most common(n = 9, 30.0%). Thirteen patients(43.3%) had a history of pelvic surgeries. Ten patients(33.3%) had a history of treatment for endometriosis. Only 4 patients(13.3%) had a diagnosis of endometriosis based on endoscopic biopsy findings. According to preoperative evaluations, 13 patients(43.3%) had an initial diagnosis of pelvic endometriosis and 17 patients(56.6%) were misdiagnosed as having other diseases. The most common misdiagnosis was submucosal tumor in the large intestine(n = 8, 26.7%),followed by malignancies of the colon/rectum(n = 3, 10.0%) and ovary(n = 3,10.0%). According to the Clavien-Dindo classification, 5 complications were grade I or II and 2 complications were grade IIIa. The effects of protein characteristics and the proportion of gluten on end-use quality in 13 Korean wheat cultivars for three years were verified in this study. Year, cultivar, and the interaction between the year and the cultivar influenced protein characteristics, the proportion of gluten except for γ-and ω-gliadin using RP-HPLC(reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography), and end-use quality. Protein characteristics and the proportion of gluten in Korean wheat cultivars were between those of Australian standard white(ASW) and hard wheat(AH). Korean wheat cultivars exhibited a higher average α+β gliadin proportion than imported wheat, a γ-gliadin proportion similar to that of dark northern spring wheat, and the same ω-gliadin proportion as AH. They showed a bread-loaf volume intermediate between those of ASW and AH and a texture of cooked noodles similar to that of soft white wheat, but less springiness than imported wheat. The cookie diameter of Korean wheat cultivars was similar to that of hard red winter wheat. There was a correlation between bread-loaf volume and protein characteristics, except for the protein content in Korean wheat cultivars. Springiness and cohesiveness of cooked noodles were not correlated with protein characteristics, while hardness was correlated with the protein content and water absorption of a mixograph. Cookie diameter was negatively correlated with the sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) sedimentation volume and water absorption of a mixograph. The end-use quality was not correlated with any proportion of gluten composition. Principal component analysis(PCA) showed that the proportion of gluten was not related to the quality of the bread(both PCs, 81.3%), noodle(77.7%), and cookie(82.4%). PCA explained that Keumkang is suitable for superior bread, while Uri is good for cooked noodles and cookies.

AIM To examine the effect of combined exercise on colonic transit time(CTT) in admitted psychiatric patients. METHODS Over a 6-mo period, consecutive in patients with mental illness were recruited from the Somang Hospital Psychiatry Unit. A combined exercise program that included 60 min per day of exercise 3 d per week for 12 wk was performed. Physical fitness and CTT of the patients were measured twice before and twice after the exercise program. CTT was measured using a multiple marker technique with a radio-opaque marker. Changes in the exercising patients' CTT and weight-,cardiovascular-and fitness-related parameters were statistically *** After the 12-wk combined exercise intervention, decreased intestinal transit time was observed in all CTTs of the exercise group, including the right CTT(exercise: 15.6 ± 15.2 vs 9.2 ± 11.9, control: 13.1 ± 10.4 vs 10.9 ± 18.7), left CTT(exercise: 19.7 ± 23.5 vs 10.4 ± 13.2, control: 19.2 ± 19.0 vs 16.9 ± 19.8), recto-sigmoid CTT(exercise: 14.3 ± 16.7 vs 6.7 ± 7.9, control: 15.0 ± 14.4 vs 19.3 ± 30.3), and total colonic transit time(TCTT)(exercise: 50.2 ± 38.1 vs 27.1 ± 28.0, control: 47.4 ± 34.6 vs 47.3 ± 47.3). After the 12-wk combined exercise period, TCTT was significantly shortened in the exercise group compared with that in the control group. In addition to eating habits, water intake, and fiber intake, the increased physical activity level as a result of the 12-wk combined exercise program reduced the CTT.
