In this paper,we discussed the ecology and economy of mangrove ecosystems in southeastern China where mangroves have been coexisting with people for several thousand *** occur naturally in southeastern China,mainly in Hainan,Guangxi, Guangdong,Hong Kong,and *** are 36 species of mangrove species in China,acconnting for 43% of the total number of species found in the *** China,mangroves are often used by local people as wood,food,medicine and aquaculture farms,in addition to their functions in protecting coastal lines,proving feeding grounds for many marine organisms and serving as natural filters for landward *** last few decades,the population boom and rapid economic development have greatly reduced mangrove areas. Research during last 30 years have not only improved our understanding of mangrove ecology but also educated publics and governmental officers about the importance of mangrove ecosystems. Since 1980s,great efforts have been made in China to protect mangrove forests and their ecological *** has already established mangrove ecosystems as high priority areas for improved environmental and living resource ***'s Biodiversity Conservation Action Plan issued in 1995 included its“Action Plan for Marine Biodiversity Protection in China”and called for increasing the area for mangrove conservation.“Marine Environmental Protection Law”promulgated in 1982 and revised in 1999 has granted mangrove protection of highest *** far,total of 11 natural mangrove conservation areas have been established,which occupy more than 20000 ha coastal *** recent years,replanting of mangroves by government authorities has taken place in areas where natural mangroves were destroyed but introducing fast-growing species from other countries may cause other ecological consequences. Multi-disciplinary research and more systematic protection strategies are urgently needed.

Bioaccumulation of Nickel by Various Scenedesmus Species in Culture Solution Containing Nickel

Sixteen Scenedesmus species or strains have been employed to investigate the maximum capacity of nickel (Ni) accumulation in 10 mg/L Ni solution. The results showed that the capacity of accumulating Ni from aqueous solution in 16 Scenedesmus species or strains showed the diversity. S. quadricauda freshwater algae culture collection of the Institute of Hydrobiology (FACHB) 44 and S. quadricauda FACHB 506 performed much more capacity of Ni accumulation than other species such as Scenedesmus sp. FACHB 416 and Scenedesmus sp. FACHB 489. Sequestration of Ni ions from aqueous solution was very efficient (26.7 mg Ni/g dry weight, in the 100 mg/L Ni solution) in S. quadricauda FACHB 44. The kinetics of Ni binding indicated that Ni bioaccumulation, in algal cell of S. quadricauda FACHB 44, possessed a rapid biosorption (5 min) and an slow bioaccumulation (2-3 h). More than 70% of Ni binding in algal cell were accumulated by biosorption and the remaining 20%-30% were bioaccumulated by energy_consumed transportation. It is much more higher ratio of energy_consumed transportation in S. quadricauda FACHB 44 than in other algae. Both the transmission electron microscope (TEM) and the energy_dispersive X_ray (EDX) microanalyses also revealed the different mechanisms of bioaccumulation in the various subcellular regions: a very fast adsorption in the cell wall; and a time_dependent absorption in protoplasm, specially in starch and chromatin.

Enantioselective iridium-catalyzed allylic substitution with a Reformatsky reagent: direct construction of β-stereogenic homoallylic esters

The Reformatsky reagent derived from ethyl bromoacetate circumvents the challenge associated with the direct regio-and enantioselective iridium-catalyzed allylic alkylation with an unstabilized aliphatic ester enolate. Notably, this work represents the first example of using a Reformatsky reagent in a metal-allyl reaction, which permits the direct construction of enantioenriched β-stereogenic homoallylic esters without preactivation of the pronucleophile or post-reaction modification of the product(e.g., thermal decarboxylation of a 1,3-dicarbonyl). Moreover, the process allows the coupling of a broad range of sterically and electronically diverse electrophiles bearing aryl, heteroaryl and alkenyl derivatives, including the significantly more challenging alkyl-substituted allylic carbonates. The versatility of the ester product is exemplified by a series of functional group manipulations and the development of a concise and efficient enantioselective total synthesis of the natural product,(+)-descurainolide A. Finally, mechanistic studies indicate that the zinc enolate behaves as a soft nucleophile that undergoes outer-sphere alkylation.

非胎生红树植物繁殖体特征及潮间带分带现象

研究了香港4种非胎生红树植物榄李(Lumnitzera racemosa(Jack．)Voigt．)、银叶树(Heritiera littoralis(Drgand．)Ait．)、海漆(Excoecaria agallocha L．)和老鼠筋(Acanthus ilicifotius L．)的繁殖体特征和萌发技术，并分析了其在潮间带分带的决定因素。所有直接种植的新鲜榄李繁殖体均不能萌发，但经湿润贮藏35d和50d的繁殖体能萌发，说明该物种具有种子休眠的特性。榄李萌发率随盐度升高而下降，盐度高于25则不能萌发。银叶树繁殖体果壳的去除可加速其萌发。海漆和老鼠筋的繁殖体分别在2d和3d开始萌根。在繁殖体萌发方面，老鼠筋的耐盐性比榄李强。4种非胎生红树植物对潮间带不稳定环境的适应方式有：(1)繁殖体的寿命较长，如榄李和银叶树；(2)萌根速度快，如海漆和老鼠筋；(3)具有沉性繁殖体，如榄李。繁殖体的悬浮性是决定这4种非胎生红树植物潮间带分带的最重要因素：榄李因具有沉性繁殖体而自然分布于最靠海的区域，而银叶树、海漆和老鼠筋因具有浮性繁殖体而更靠陆岸分布。对于繁殖体悬浮性相同的物种，萌根速度是影响潮间带分带的重要因素：完整的银叶树繁殖体需要108d才能萌根，因而分布于最靠陆岸的区域，而海漆和老鼠筋因萌根速度快而在相对更靠海的区域分布。环境盐度、繁殖体大小、动物啃食和幼苗大小等因素则不能解释香港非胎生红树植物在潮间带的分带现象。

Anaerobic biodegradation of PAHs in mangrove sediment with amendment of NaHCO_3

Mangrove sediment is unique in chemical and biological properties. Many of them suffer polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon（PAH） contamination. However, the study on PAH biological remediation for mangrove sediment is deficient. Enriched PAH-degrading microbial consortium and electron acceptor amendment are considered as two effective measures. Compared to other electron acceptors, the study on CO2, which is used by methanogens, is still seldom. This study investigated the effect of Na HCO3 amendment on the anaerobic biodegradation of four mixed PAHs, namely fluorene（Fl）, phenanthrene（Phe）,fluoranthene（Flua） and pyrene（Pyr）, with or without enriched PAH-degrading microbial consortium in mangrove sediment slurry. The trends of various parameters, including PAH concentrations, microbial population size, electron-transport system activities, electron acceptor and anaerobic gas production were monitored. The results revealed that the inoculation of enriched PAH-degrading consortium had a significant effect with half lives shortened by 7–13 days for 3-ring PAHs and 11–24 days for 4-ring PAHs. While Na HCO3 amendment did not have a significant effect on the biodegradation of PAHs and other parameters, except that CO2 gas in the headspace of experimental flasks was *** of the possible reasons is that mangrove sediment contains high concentrations of other electron acceptors which are easier to be utilized by anaerobic bacteria, the other one is that the anaerobes in mangrove sediment can produce enough CO2 gas even without adding Na HCO3.
