Takayasu's arteritis and crohn's disease are chronic in-flammatory diseases of uncertain aetiology. They rarely occur together, with only twenty nine cases of co-ex-istent Takayasu's arteritis and crohn's disease reported in the literature. In 88% of these cases, Takayasu's arteritis was diagnosed simultaneously or following a diagnosis of crohn's disease. We present a case of a young caucasian medical student, incidentally found to have bilateral carotid bruits on auscultation by a colleague. Magnetic resonance angiography revealed stenoses of the common carotid arteries with estab-lished collaterals, and a diagnosis of Type 1 Takayasu's arteritis was made. An 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography scan revealed no active disease. Nine months later, she presented with a short history of abdominal pain, vomiting and abdominal disten-sion. Barium follow-through and computer tomography revealed a terminal ileal stricture and proximal small bowel dilation. An extended right hemicoloectomy was performed and histopathology supported a diagnosis of crohn's disease. This case report is presented with a particular focus on the temporal relationship between these two disease processes and explores whether their concurrence is more than just co-incidence.

The present investigation evaluated the effectiveness of chlorella cells in concentrating cu and Ni in their cells and thereby removing the two metals from solution. The removal efficiency of the two metals by free and immobilized algal cells were further studied. (1) Four types of chlorella cells, namely chlorella pyrenoidosa (26) (from carolina Biological Supplies company), chlorella HKBc-1 and-2 (isolated from a polluted stream receiving wastewater from several electroplating factories) and chlorella HKBc-3 (from a clean water pond) were subjected to different concentrations of cu and Ni accordingly. It was revealed that chlorella HKBc-1 was the most tolerant species tocu and Ni as reflected by their highest values of 48 h and 96 h 'Highest no effect concentrations' (The highest concentration of the tested substance that does not inhibit the growth rate of the alga: cu 2 and Ni 10 mg/1 at 48 h, cu 2 and Ni 5 at 96 h). This was followed by c. pyrenoidosa (26) and then c. HKBc-2 while c. HKBc-3 had the lowest tolerance to the two metals (cu 0.5 and Ni 2 at 48 h; cu 0.5 and Ni 1 mg/1 at 96 h). (2) It was further revealed that c. HKBc-1 had higher concentration factors and removal efficiencies of Ni (734-963 mg/1, 16.3-18.7%) and c. HKBc-2 had higher concentration factors and removal efficiencies of cu (2316-2839 mg/1, 53.7-66%) when exposed to lower concentrations of cu (0.5,1 and 2 mg/1) and Ni (5, 10 and 13 mg/1). (3) By treating the free and immobilized algal cells (algal cells entrapped in alginate beads) with different concentrations of cu and Ni, it was observed that free cells had higher concentration factors and removal efficiencies when compared with immobilized cells (free cells: cu 1577-3056 mg/1, 24.2-71.4%; Ni 355-849 mg/1, 4.8-18.7%; immobilized cells: cu 453-935 mg/1, 13.9-53.2%; Ni 244-486 mg/1, 3.2-11.9%).

In this paper,a comparative study of the path planning problem using evolutionary algorithms,in comparison with c.a.sical methods such as the A*algorithm,is presented for a holonomic mobile *** configured navigation system,which consists of the integration of sensors sources,map formatting,global and local path planners,and the base controller,aims to enable the robot to follow the shortest smooth path ***-based mapping is used for scoring paths efficiently,allowing the determination of collision-free trajectories from the initial to the target *** work considers the evolutionary algorithms,the mutated cuckoo optimization algorithm(Mc.a.and the genetic.a.gorithm(GA),as a global planner to find the shortest safe path among others.A non-uniform motion coefficient is introduced for Mc.a.in order to increase the performance of this algorithm.A series of experiments are accomplished and analyzed to confirm the performance of the global planner implemented on a holonomic mobile *** results of the experiments show the capacity of the planner framework with respect to the path planning problem under various obstacle layouts.

Self-assembled nanorod of vanadium oxide bundles were synthesized by treating bulk V2O5 with high intensity sonochemical technique. The synthesized materials were c.a.acterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscope （SEM）, transmission electron microscope （TEM） and temperature-programmed reduction （TPR） in H2. catalytic behaviour of the materials over anaerobic n-butane oxidation was studied through temperature-programmed reaction （TPRn）. catalytic evaluation of the sonochemical treated V2O5 products was also studied on microreactor. XRD patterns of all the vanadium samples were perfectly indexed to V2O5. The morphologies of the nanorod vanadium oxides as shown in SEM and TEM depended on the duration of the ultrasound irradiation. Prolonging the ultrasound irradiation duration resulted in materials with uniform, well defined shapes and surface structures and smaller size of nanorod vanadium oxide bundles. H2-TPR profiles showed that larger amount of oxygen species were removed from the nanorod V2O5 compared to the bulk. Furthermore, the nanorod vanadium oxide bundles, which were produced after 90, 120 and 180 min of sonochemical treatment, showed an additional reduction peak at lower temperature （-850 K）, suggesting the presence of some highly active oxygen species. TPRn in n-butane/He over these materials showed that the nanorod V2O5 with highly active oxygen species showed markedly higher activity than the bulk material, which was further proven by catalytic oxidation of n-butane.

In the field of several complex variables, the Greene-Krantz conjecture, whose consequences would be far reaching, has yet to be proven. Atomic-level qubits in silicon are attractive candidates for large-scale quantum computing;however,their quantum properties and controllability are sensitive to details such as the number of donor atoms comprising a qubit and their precise *** work combines machine learning techniques with million-atom simulations of scanning tunnelling microscopic(STM)images of dopants to formulate a theoretical framework capable of determining the number of dopants at a particular qubit location and their positions with exact lattice site precision.A convolutional neural network(cNN)was trained on 100,000 simulated STM images,acquiring a c.a.acterisation fidelity(number and absolute donor positions)of>98% over a set of 17,600 test images including planar and blurring noise commensurate with experimental *** formalism is based on a systematic symmetry analysis and feature-detection processing of the STM images to optimise the computational *** technique is demonstrated for qubits formed by single and pairs of closely spaced donor atoms,with the potential to generalise it for larger donor *** method established here will enable a high-precision post-fabrication c.a.acterisation of dopant qubits in silicon,with high-throughput potentially alleviating the requirements on the level of resources required for quantum-based c.a.acterisation,which will otherwise be a c.a.lenge in the context of large qubit arrays for universal quantum computing.

This study investigated the assoc.a.ion between depressive symptoms in elderly chinese men and the total testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone （DHEA）, DHEA sulphate （DHEAS）, oestradiol and sex hormone-binding globulin （SHBG） levels, and the free androgen index. cross-sectional data from 1147 community-dwelling elderly men, aged 65 and older, were used. Depressive symptoms were measured using the chinese Geriatric Depression Scale （GDS）. Total testosterone, free testosterone, DHEA, DHEAS, total oestradiol, the free androgen index and SHBG levels were assessed. DHEA was significantly assoc.a.ed with GDS score, and there was a trend towards DHEAS assoc.a.ion, but this was not significant （p=-0. 110, P=0.015; p=-0.074, P=0.055）. However, no assoc.a.ion was seen between depressive symptoms and total testosterone levels, free testosterone levels, oestradiol levels or SHBG levels. In terms of the presence of clinically relevant depressive symptoms, there were no statistically significant differences between patients in the lowest quartile of sex steroid hormone levels and those in other quartiles of sex steroid hormone levels. Similarly to Western studies, our study shows that DHEA and DHEAS levels are assoc.a.ed with depressive symptoms.
