The Taebaek Mountains in Korea serve as the most apparent biogeographic barrier for Korean freshwater fishes,resulting in 2 distinct ichthyofaunal assemblages on the eastern(East/Japan Sea slope)and western(Yellow Sea and Korea Strait slopes)sides of the mountain *** nearly 100 species of native primary freshwater fishes in Korea,only 18 species occur naturally on both sides of the mountain ***,there are 5 rheophilic species(Phoxinus phoxinus,Coreoleuciscus splendidus,Ladislavia taczanowskii,Iksookimia koreensis and Koreocobitis rotundicaudata)found on both sides of the Taebaek Mountains that are geographically restricted to the Osip River(and several neighboring rivers,for *** and ***)on the eastern side of the mountain *** Osip River and its neighboring rivers also shared a rheophilic freshwater fish,Liobagrus mediadiposalis,with the Nakdong River on the western side of the mountain *** assessed historical biogeographic hypotheses on the presence of these rheophilic fishes,utilizing DNA sequence data from the mitochondrial cytochrome b *** of our divergence time estimation indicate that ichthyofaunal transfers into the Osip River(and several neighboring rivers in East Sea slope)have occurred from the Han(Yellow Sea slope)and Nakdong(Korea Strait slope)Rivers since the Late *** inferred divergence times for the ichthyofaunal transfer across the Taebaek Mountains were consistent with the timing of hypothesized multiple reactivations of the Osip River Fault(Late Pleistocene),suggesting that the Osip River Fault reactivations may have caused stream capture events,followed by ichthyofaunal transfer,not only between the Osip and Nakdong Rivers,but also between the Osip and Han Rivers.

Atomic layer deposition （ALD） has become an essential deposition method for forming nanometer scale thin films in the microelectronics industry, and its applications have been extended to multi-component thin films, as well as to single metal oxide films. In order to investigate the development of the surface structure of ultra-thin film qualitatively as well as quantitatively, ALD processes are simulated with a molecular scale. For this simulation, the film materials are deposited on a imaginary substrate that consists of small lattice. The deposition behaviors are described by using random deposition （RD） model or random deposition with surface relaxation （RDSR） model as the ALD growth mode, and the proposed model was applied to the deposition of SrO-TiO2 thin films. Through this work, growth characteristics such as surface morphology, deposited film coverage can be predicted.

Microstructure and texture of Ti-Nb-Si based alloys, prepared by water quenching from β-phase field, cold rolling and recrystallization heat treatment followed by water quenching, were investigated in terms of optical microstructure and analysis of X-ray pole figure result. In as-quenched sample, relatively random distribution of pole figure was detected without showing a specific texture component. In as-cold rolled sample, however, it is found well-developed several texture components consisting of rotated cube, α-fiber and γ-fiber texture components which are frequently observed in bcc-structured metals and alloys were found. Therefore, texture components developed in the present alloys are closely related to the deformation of β-phase even though small amount of α″ phase co-exist in the microstructure. In recrystallized sample, α-fiber texture component is weakly detected while the other texture components, rotated cube and γ-fiber components, appears to be relatively unchanged. No additional texture components were detected besides those texture components observed in the cold rolled samples.

Cross-training is a phenomenon related to motor learning, where motor performance of the untrained limb shows improvement in strength and skill execution following unilateral training of the homologous contralateral limb. We used functional MRI to investigate whether motor performance of the untrained limb could be improved using a serial reaction time task according to motor sequential learning of the trained limb, and whether these skill acquisitions led to changes in brain activation patterns. We recruited 20 right-handed healthy subjects, who were randomly allocated into training and control groups. The training group was trained in performance of a serial reaction time task using their non-dominant left hand, 40 minutes per day, for 10 days, over a period of 2 weeks. The control group did not receive training. Measurements of response time and percentile of response accuracy were performed twice during pre- and post-training, while brain functional MRI was scanned during performance of the serial reaction time task using the untrained right hand. In the training group, prominent changes in response time and percentile of response accuracy were observed in both the untrained right hand and the trained left hand between pre- and post-training. The control group showed no significant changes in the untrained hand between pre- and post-training. In the training group, the activated volume of the cortical areas related to motor function （i.e., primary motor cortex, premotor area, posterior parietal cortex） showed a gradual decrease, and enhanced cerebellar activation of the vermis and the newly activated ipsilateral dentate nucleus were observed during performance of the serial reaction time task using the untrained right hand, accompanied by the cross-motor learning effect. Hair loss due to medical conditions,such as alopecia,male pattern baldness,and cancer chemotherapy treatment,has been a comm onproblem for many in *** n A(CsA),a fungal metabolite,has been reported to be a hair growth modulatory agent and is apotential drug for hair ***,the effect of topical application of CsA is limited by its poor water *** deliverysystems developed to enhance its solubility still showed poor skin *** overcome these limitations,in this study,we have developed a novel chitosan nanocapsule platform using Pluro nic F127 and chitosan without any chemical crosslinking or complicated preparati on steps for the enhanced water solubility and high tran sdermal penetration of *** chitosan nanocapsules(ChiNCs)optimized in terms of structural stability by using chitosan with various molecular weights ranging from 3 to 100 kDa enhanced the skin permeation of CsA through humancadaver skin in *** administration of the CsA loaded ChiNCs in creased the hair follicles by c.a.7 times higher than that of thecontrol group,and effectively induced hair growth in C57BL/6 mice in *** results suggest that ChiNCs could be used as a platform foreffective transdermal delivery of various hydrophobic drugs.

We report on the synthesis and characterizations of TiO2 nanoparticles embedded in polyamide-6composite nanofibers by using electrospinning technique. The influence of substrate on the electrical characteristics of polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers was investigated. The resultant nanofibers exhibit good incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles. The doping of TiO2 nanoparticles into the polyamide-6 nanofibers were confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Photoluminescence（PL） and cathodoluminescence（CL） spectroscopy were also used to characterize the *** PL and CL spectra reveal that the as-spun polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers consisted of overlapping of two broad emission bands due to the contribution of polyamide-6（centered at about 475 nm）, which might originate from organic functional groups of polyamide-6 and TiO2 nanoparticles（centered around 550 nm）. The electrical conductivity of the polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers on different substrates was carried *** was found that the electrical conductivity of the polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers on silicon substrate was in the range of 13 μA, and about 1 to 20 p A for the paper and glass substrates.

Objective： To investigate whether the dried root of Phellodendron amurense Ruprecht（Phellodendri cortex; PC） extract improves arthritic symptoms through anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory effects in collagen-induced arthritis in mice. Methods： Rheumatoid arthritis（RA） was induced in male DBA/1 mice by immunization with type Ⅱ collagen（ColⅡ）. CIA mice were divided into 5 groups（n=10 per a group） with normal, CIA control, PC extract（50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg）-treated, and meloxicam（50 mg/kg）-treated as the reference drug. The PC extract or meloxicam were administered orally in CIA mice once a day for 14 days after arthritis induction. Arthritic score, levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, prostaglandin E2（PGE2）, tumor necrosis factor（TNF）-α, and interleukin（IL）-17 in the sera of CIA mice were measured. Histopathological changes in the ankle joints of CIA mice were also analyzed by staining with hematoxylin and eosin（H and E）, safranin-O and immunohistochemistry using anti-TNF-α and anti-IL-17 antibodies. Results： The arthritic score was increased in CIA mice in a time-dependent manner, as were the serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a antibody, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17. However, the oral administration of PC extract at 50 and 100 mg/kg in CIA mice significantly decreased the arthritic scores, and the serum levels of anti-ColⅡ IgG2a, PGE2, TNF-α, and IL-17 compared with those in the CIA group（P〈0.05 or P〈0.01）. Furthermore, histopathological improvement of the joint architecture in CIA mice was observed after administration of PC extract. PC extract also significantly inhibited the expression of TNF-α and IL-17 in the joints of CIA mice by suppressing the expression of their m RNA and proteins. Conclusion： PC extract may improve the pathological progression of RA through the inhibition of joint destruction by synovial inflammation and immune-stimulation, therefore, it would be a potential anti-arthritic agent in RA.
