Long-Term and Immediate Impacts of Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management(Health-EDRM) Education Interventions in a Rural Chinese Earthquake-Prone Transitional Village

Ma'an Qiao Village, a Dai and Yi ethnic minority-based community in Sichuan Province, China sustained complete infrastructure devastation during the 2008 Panzhihua earthquake. Health emergency and disaster risk management(Health-EDRM) education intervention programs were implemented in 2010 and 2011. This serial cross-sectional survey study aimed to examine the immediate and long-term impacts of the Health-EDRM interventions in this remote rural community. The findings demonstrate knowledge improvement in areas of water and sanitation, food and nutrition, and disaster preparedness immediately after the Health-EDRM education interventions. Temporal stability of knowledge retention was observed in household hygiene and waste management and smoking beliefs in 2018, 7 years after the *** important findings include knowledge uptake pattern differences of oral rehydration solution(ORS) between earthquake-prone and flood-prone communities. Usage of Internet and mobile technology for accessing disaster-related information was found to be independent of gender and income. Overall, this study demonstrated the knowledge improvement through Health-EDRM education interventions in a remote rural community. Promoting behavioral changes through interventions to raise awareness has the potential to reduce health risks in transitional post-disaster settings. Future programs should aim to identify evidence-based practices and explore how technology can support Health-EDRM education among vulnerable subgroups.

Reconstructing the post-LgM deglacial history of Hollingsworth glacier on Ricker Hills,Transantarctic Mountains,Antarctica

The Transantarctic Mountains are an important corridor between the East Antarctic Ice Sheet and the Western Ross Sea,where most current ice streams and outlet glaciers *** investigated Ricker Hills,the largest exposed mountainous region between Southern Victoria Land and Terra Nova Bay,and dated the glacial landforms using in-situ cosmogenic-nuclide 10 Be surface exposure dating to reconstruct the paleo-glacial *** surface of the Hollingsworth glacier lowered since the middle of Marine Isotope Stage(MIS)2(22.1 ka);therefore,the Last glacial Maximum(LgM)occurred before that ***,geomorphic,and climatic records constrained the glacial surface slope to be between 5.4°and 6.8°.The ice was 270-320 m thicker at the LgM(MIS 2)than presently but did not override the top surface of the Benson ***,previous glacial periods such as the local LgM(MIS 4)or Penultimate glacial Maximum(MIS 6)maintained thicker ice than the LgM(MIS 2).The Ross Ice Shelf opening during the mid-Holocene(~6 ka)caused the rapid collapse of the terminal outlet glaciers and supplied notable snow accumulation upstream,which stagnated *** greatest lowering and retreat occurred during the late Holocene(2.3~0.8 ka),when elephant seal colonies thrived in the Ross Embayment.

Verification and Correction of Cloud Base and Top Height Retrievals from ka–band Cloud Radar in Boseong,Korea

In this study,cloud base height（CBH） and cloud top height（CTH） observed by the ka-band（33.44 gHz） cloud radar at the Boseong National Center for Intensive Observation of Severe Weather during fall 2013（September-November） were verified and *** comparative verification,CBH and CTH were obtained using a ceilometer（CL51） and the Communication,Ocean and Meteorological Satellite（COMS）.During rainfall,the CBH and CTH observed by the cloud radar were lower than observed by the ceilometer and COMS because of signal attenuation due to raindrops,and this difference increased with rainfall *** dry periods,however,the CBH and CTH observed by the cloud radar,ceilometer,and COMS were *** and low-density clouds were observed more effectively by the cloud radar compared with the ceilometer and *** cases of rainfall or missing cloud radar data,the ceilometer and COMS data were proven effective in correcting or compensating the cloud radar *** corrected cloud data were used to classify cloud types,which revealed that low clouds occurred most frequently.

Osteoarthritis （OA） is the most common degenerative joint disease and a major cause of pain and disability in adult individuals. The etiology of OA includes joint injury, obesity, aging, and heredity. However, the detailed molecular mechanisms of OA initiation and progression remain poorly understood and, currently, there are no interventions available to restore degraded cartilage or decelerate disease progression. The diathrodial joint is a complicated organ and its function is to bear weight, perform physical activity and exhibit a joint-specific range of motion during movement. During OA development, the entire joint organ is affected, including articular cartilage, subchondral bone, synovial tissue and meniscus. A full understanding of the pathological mechanism of OA development relies on the discovery of the interplaying mechanisms among different OA symptoms, including articular cartilage degradation, osteophyte formation, subchondral sclerosis and synovial hyperplasia, and the signaling pathway（s） controlling these pathological processes.

Long-term clinical outcomes of drug-eluting stents ***-metal stents in Chinese geriatric patients

BACKgROUND & OBJECTIVE: Little is known about the relative efficacies of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents (DES) and bare-metal stents (BMS) in elderly patients。 The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome for geriatric patients who received either DES or BMS。 METHODS: From January 2002 to October 2005, 199 consecutive Chinese geriatric patients (≥ 75 years old) underwent PCI with coronary DES or BMS implantation at our institution。 We analyzed the major clinical end points that included all-cause mortality, cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization (TLR), stent thrombosis, and bleeding complications。 RESULTS: The three-year cumulative rates of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular death, and myocardial infarction were significantly lower in the DES group (6.3%,3.6%,5.4%) compared with the BMS group (16.2%,11.5%,14.9%; P gnificant differences were found in the three-year cumulative rate for target lesion revascularization (6.3% vs4.6%, P =0.61) or stent thrombosis (3.6% vs2.3%, P =0.70)。 Likewise, there were no statistically significant differences in the cumulative rate for intracranial hemorrhage, or major and minor hemorrhage at three years。 CONCLUSIONS: DES-based PCI was associated with a significant reduction in the three-year cumulative rate of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular death, and myocardial infarction compared with BMS, without increased risk of TLR, stent thrombosis, or bleeding complications at three years in this group of Chinese geriatric patients。

背景：手术后咽痛及声嘶是气管插管，特别是双腔气管导管插管后的主要并发症。我们开展此项前瞻、随机、双盲的安慰剂对照研究，来评价地塞米松用以降低手术后咽痛及声嘶发生率和严重程度的效能。方法本研究选择了166例（18～75岁）使用双腔气管导管插管的胸外科手术患者。在全麻诱导之前，以双盲、前瞻性的随机方法分为地塞米松（静脉给予）0．1mg／kg组（D1组）、0．2mg／kg组（D2组）和安慰剂组（P组）。分别记录Cormack—Lehane评分的声门暴露度、双腔管插管阻力、尝试插管次数、完成插管时间以及插管维持时间。在拔管后1及24小时，利用视觉模拟评分（VAS，0=没有疼痛；100=可以想象的最剧烈疼痛）来评价咽痛及声嘶程度。结果拔管1小时后，咽痛、声嘶发生率及咽痛程度与P组（53％，36％，VAS30．9）相比，D1组（31％，P=0．021；11％，P=0．003；VAS12．4，P〈0．001）与D2组（11％，P=0．001；4％，P=0．001；VAS6．6，P〈0．001）均低。拔管24小时后，D2组（27％，P=0．002；15％，P=0．001；VAS29．9，P〈0．002）咽痛、声嘶发生率及咽痛程度显著低于D1组（47％，31％，VAS43．9）及P组（57％，45％，VAS51．3）。同时未发现与注射地塞米松相关的并发症的发生。结论预防性使用0．2mg／kg地塞米松能显著降低双腔气管导管拔管后１及24小时咽痛、声嘶发生率及严重程度。
