Soybean accounts for more than half of the global production of oilseed and more than a quarter of the protein used globally for human food and animal feed. Soybean domestication involved parallel increases in seed size and oil content, and a concomitant decrease in protein content. However, science has not yet discovered whether these effects were due to selective pressure on a single gene or multiple genes. Here,re-sequencing data from>800 genotypes revealed a strong selection during soybean domestication on Gm SWEET10a. The selection of Gm SWEET10a conferred simultaneous increases in soybean-seed size and oil content as well as a reduction in the protein content. The result was validated using both near-isogenic lines carrying substitution of haplotype chromosomal segments and transgenic soybeans. moreover,Gm SWEET10b was found to be functionally redundant with its homologue Gm SWEET10a and to be undergoing selection in current breeding, leading the the elite allele Gm SWEET10b, a potential target for present-day soybean breeding. Both GmSWEET10a and GmSWEET10b were shown to transport sucrose and hexose, contributing to sugar allocation from seed coat to embryo, which consequently determines oil and protein contents and seed size in soybean. We conclude that past selection of optimal Gm SWEET10a alleles drove the initial domestication of multiple soybean-seed traits and that targeted selection of the elite allele Gm SWEET10b may further improve the yield and seed quality of modern soybean cultivars.

Besides obvious benefits,the Three Gorges Dam＇s construction resulted in new pollution scenarios with the potentials to threaten the Three Gorges Reservoir（TGR） *** order to record organic contamination,to find links to ecotoxicological impacts and to serve as reference for ensuing monitoring,several sites in the TGR area were screened applying the triad approach with additional lines-of-evidence as a holistic assessment *** and the benthic fish species Pelteobagrus vachellii were sampled in 2011 and 2012 to determine organic pollution levels,mutagenic potentials and genotoxic *** regional hot-spots near the cities of Chongqing and Kaixian were identified and further investigated in *** polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons（PAHs） could be detected in sediments in 2011（165-1653 ng/g）,emphasizing their roles as key pollutants of the *** ubiquity was confirmed at Chongqing（150-433 ng/g） and Kaixian（127-590 ng/g） *** were comparable to other major Chinese and German ***,the immense sediment influx suggested a deposition of 216-636 kg PAH/day（0.2-0.6 mg PAH/（m2·day））,indicating an ecotoxicological *** source analysis highlighted primary impacts of combustion sources on the more industrialized upper TGR section,whereas petrogenic sources dominated the mid-low ***,sediment extracts from several sites exhibited significant activities of frameshift promutagens in the Ames fluctuation ***,significant genotoxic impairments in erythrocytes of *** were detected（Chongqing/Kaixian）,demonstrating the relevance of genotoxicity as animportant mode of action in the TGR＇s ***,their derivatives and non-target compounds are considered as main causative agents.

Patient age and duration of colonoscopy are predictors for adenoma detection in both proximal and distal colon

AIm: To investigate the relation of patient characteristics and procedural parameters to the endoscopic detection rate of colonic adenomas. Further to study,which factors may be capable to predict the localization of adenomatous ***: We used the data base of a prospective randomized colonoscopy study(The Colo Cap trial) to identify patients being diagnosed with colon adenoma. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to reveal predictors for adenoma detection in the entire colon and also with respect to the proximal and distal part. Covariates including age, gender, duration of colonoscopy and comorbidities were defined to determine association between predictors and adenoma ***: Equal numbers of adenomas were detected in the proximal and distal side of the splenic flexure [126(57%) vs 94(43%), P = 0.104]. Simultaneous occurrence of adenomas in both sides of the colon was rare. The appearance of both proximal and distal adenoma was associated with increasing age(P = 0.008 and P = 0.024) and increasing duration of colonoscopy(P male gender was a predictor for adenoma detection in the proximal colon(P = 0.008) but statistical significance was slightly missed with respect to the distal colon(P = 0.089). Alcohol abuse was found to be a predictor for the detection of distal adenoma(P = 0.041). CONCLUSION: Increasing age and longer duration of colonoscopy are factors with a strong impact on adenoma detection both in the proximal and distal colon. Since proximal adenomas occurred in absence of distal adenomas, complete colonoscopy should be performed for screening.

Background: Inguinal lymph node dissections (ILND) have been commonly associated with postoperative complications such as lymphedema, lymph fistula and wound infections. The reported complication rates after ILND range from 14% - 77%, and a rationale for these large differences is the use of a variety of different definitions of complications. Patients and methods: Files of patients that underwent inguinal lymph node dissection for lymph node metastases at the Department of General and Visceral Surgery of the University Hospital Frankfurt between February 2005 and march 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. Results: 47 patients (65%) developed a lymphatic fistula in the course of the operation, of which 6 patients (8%) underwent reoperations. Surgical side infections (SSI) were seen in 15 patients (21%), all of them harbouring fistulas. Patients presenting with a BmI ≥ 30 kg/m2 did not develop more fistulas than those with a BmI 2 (p = 0.30). Patients who suffered from a lymph fistula had significantly more visits in the outpatient clinic (p =mplication rate if the procedure was performed by a resident under supervision or a senior surgeon (p = 0.79). Conclusion: In this study, we demonstrated that lymph fistulas are to date a common complication after ILND and lead to reoperations and significantly more outpatient visits. The number of lymph nodes affected and resected, and prior sentinel lymph node dissection, was not associated with a higher complication rate.

To the Editor： With great interest we read the original article of Chert et al published in the Chinese medical Journal comparing serum concentrations of cytokines in patients of Han and Li ethnicity with posttraumatic stress disorder （PTSD）. The authors found significantly higher serum concentrations of the cytokines interleukin （IL）-2, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor （TNF）-α in PTSD patients compared to normal controls, and differences in cytokine concentrations according to ethnicity.
