The nonparametric kernel estimation of probability density function (PDF) pro-vides a uniform and accurate estimate of flood frequency-magnitude ***, the kernel estimate has the disadvantage that the smoothing factor h is estimate empirically and is not locally adjusted, thus possibly resulting in deteri oration of density estimate when PDF is not smooth and is heavy-tailed. Such a problem can be alleviate by estimating the density of a transformed random vari able, and then taking the inverse transform. A new and efficient circular transform is proposed and investigated in this paper

In light science and applications,equally important roles are played by efficient light emitters/detectors and by the optical elements responsible for light extraction and *** latter should be simple,cost effective,broadband,versatile and compatible with other components of widely desired micro-optical ***,they should also operate without high-numerical-aperture ***,we demonstrate that all these requirements can be met with elliptical microlenses 3D printed on top of light ***,the microlenses we propose readily form the collected light into an ultra-low divergence beam(half-angle divergence below 1°)perfectly suited for ultra-longworking-distance optical measurements(600mm with a 1-inch collection lens),which are not accessible to date with other spectroscopic *** microlenses can be fabricated on a wide variety of samples,including semiconductor quantum dots and fragile van der Waals heterostructures made of novel two-dimensional materials,such as monolayer and few-layer transition metal dichalcogenides.

This research estimates carbon sink and allocation in above-and below-ground biomass of a 12-year-old willow coppice plantation on fl uvisol soil near the Vistula River(southern Poland).The plantation showed high C sink potential and sequestration rates.C sequestration by aboveground biomass was estimated at 10.8 Mg C ha^−1 a^−*** in coarse roots was estimated at 1.5 Mg C ha^−1 a^−1 and in fi ne roots at 1.2 Mg C ha^−1 a^−*** C sequestered(above-ground biomass,coarse roots and fi ne roots)was estimated at 13.5 Mg C ha^−1 a^−*** results confi rm the potential of fast-growing plantations of willow to mitigate,over a short time span,the eff ects of high CO 2 concentrations.

The near-infrared luminescence of Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O∶Mn^(5+)is demonstrated and *** excited into the broad and strong absorption band that spans the 500-1000 nm spectral range,this phosphor provides an ultranarrow(FWHM=5 nm)emission centered at 1140 nm that originates from a spin-forbidden ^(1)E → ^(3)A_(2) transition with a 37.5%internal quantum efficiency and an excited-state lifetime of about 350 μ*** derived the crystal field and Racah parameters and calculated the appropriate Tanabe-Sugano diagram for this *** found that 1E emission quenches due to the thermally-assisted cross-over with the ^(3)T_(2) state and that the relatively high Debye temperature of 783 K of Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O facilitates efficient *** Ca_(6)Ba(PO_(4))_(4)O also provides efficient yellow emission of the Eu^(2+)dopant,we calculated and explained its electronic band structure,the partial and total density of states,effective Mulliken charges of all ions,elastic constants,Debye temperature,and vibrational ***,we demonstrated the application of phosphor in a luminescence intensity ratio thermometry and obtained a relative sensitivity of 1.92%K^(-1) and a temperature resolution of 0.2 K in the range of physiological temperatures.

A growing body of evidence indicates that incretins may have pleiotropic beneficial effects beyond lowering glucose blood concentration. The effect of GLP-1 and exendin-4 on coronary arteries endothelium in diabetic and obese individuals has been studied widely. TNF-a is one of adipocytokines. The aim of our study was to evaluate the influence of glycated albumin (GlyAlb;100;500 and 1000 mg/L) and proinflammatory cytokine, TNF-α (2.5 and 10 ng/mL), on expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in cultured human endothelial cells derived from coronary arteries. The next goal of the study was to evaluate the influence of GLP-1 (10 nM and 100 nM) and its analogue, exendin-4 (1 nM and 10 nM), on the expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in these cell line. TNF-a statistically significantly increased VCAM-1 production by endothelial cells, whereas GlyAlb statistically significantly augmented the expression of both tested adhesion mole- cules. Exendin-4 and GLP-1 statistically significantly reduced the expression of VCAM-1 in endothelial cells stimulated by GlyAlb in dose-de- pendent manner. When TNF-a was used as the stimulant only exendin-4 in the concentration of 10 nM statistically significantly reduced the expression of VCAM-1. Studied incretins in their both concentrations statistically significantly reduced the expression of ICAM-1 in endothelial cells stimulated by GlyAlb. The influence of TNF- a on the expression of ICAM-1 was statistically significantly reduced by both concentrations of exendin-4 but only by the higher concentration of GLP-1. The results of our present study indicate that incretins may present a group of agents developing pleiotropic effects beyond the reduction of blood glucose concentration. Their vaso-protective and cardioprotective action may be of importance in diabetic and obese individuals.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours(GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumours of the gastrointestinal tract,but they represent less than 3% of all gastrointestinal tract *** is a detailed case study of a 52-yearold male patient treated for very uncommon histological subtype of gastric GIST with atypical clinical presentation,asymptomatic progress and late *** resected tumour,giant in diameters,was confirmed to represent the most rare histopathologic subtype of GISTs- sarcomatoid epithelioid *** report this case and review the literature with a special focus on pathomorphological evaluation,biological aggressiveness and prognostic *** our knowledge this is the first report of giant GIST of very uncommon sarcomatoid epithelioid *** is concluded that clinicians should pay attention to the fact that initial diagnosis may be delayed due to mildly asymptomatic and non-specific clinical *** tumours diagnosed at a late stage,which is often the case,can be large on *** for patients diagnosed with GIST depend on tumour size,mitotic rate,histopathologic subtype and tumour *** is why early diagnosis and R0 resection,which is usually feasible and safe even in giant gastric sarcomatoid epithelioid subtype of GISTs,are the key factors for further treatment and good prognosis.

Effect of Temperatures on Polymerization Stress and Microleakage of Class V Composite Restorations

The loss of interfacial integrity was identified as one of the major causes for replacement of resin composite restorations. Preheating procedure has been proven to enhance flowability and adaptation of resin composites and increase their degree of conversion. The purpose of this study was to investigate polymerization contraction stress produced in resin composites after preheating to 37℃ and 60℃, and measure microleakage of Class V restorations restored with preheated composites. Three resin composites (GC Kalore, Gradia Direct X, Filtek Supreme XT) at room temperature, 37℃, and 60℃ were investigated. Maximum contraction stress of the composites (n = 5) was evaluated in a modified low-compliance device. Samples were light-cured for 40 seconds and the maximum force was recorded during 15 minutes. Calculations were done to adjust for the system’s compliance and obtain linear shrinkage values of composites. Data were analyzed by Multivariated Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and Tukey’s test for multiple comparisons (α = 0.05). Seventy-two Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces of extracted premolars and divided into 9 groups. The teeth were restored with composites at 3 temperatures and were thermo-cycled between 5℃ and 55℃ with a one-minute dwell-time for 1000 cycles. The teeth were sealed with wax and nail vanish before placed in 0.5% toluidine blue dye for 24 hours. The teeth were embedded in self-curing resin and sectioned bucco-lingually with a slow-speed diamond saw, providing 3 sections per restoration. Microleakage was rated by two evaluators using a 0 - 4 ordinal scale at the occlusal and cervical margins under light microscope. Microleakage data were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA and Mann-Whitney U test (α = 0.05). Results indicate that preheating composites to 37℃ and 60℃ significantly increased polymerization contraction stress of composites (p 0.05). A significantly greater amount of leakage was found at the cervical margins (p 0.05). F
