Polarization effect in tip-enhanced infrared nanospect- roscopy studies of the selective Y5 receptor antagonist Lu AA33810

A novel approach of combining conventional infrared spectroscopy （IR） and atomic force microscopy （AFm） is presented to better understand the behavior of a drug adsorbed on a metal substrate at the nanoscale level. Tip-enhanced infrared nanospectroscopy （TEIRA） was used for the first time to investigate Lu AA33810, a selective brain-penetrating Y5 receptor antagonist, after immobilization on gold nanopartides （GNPs）. Here, a gold coated AFm tip and gold substrate were used to obtain the near-field electromagnetic field trapping effect. Because of the huge signal enhancement, it was possible to obtain the spectral information regarding the self-assembled monolayer of the investigated molecule. The effect of two orthogonal polarizations （p- and s-polarization modulations） of the excitation laser beam on the spectral patterns is also discussed. The results show that there is a strong relationship between the state of polarization of the incident radiation and the relative infrared band intensities. Another factor affecting the observed spectral differences is the topology of the metal substrate, which may result in the induction of a cross-polarization effect. The performed analysis indicates that the C--C bond from the cyclohexyl group is oriented almost parallel to the metal surface. Conversely, the p- and s-polarized spectral variations suggest that the O=S---O angle is high enough to enable the simultaneous interaction of both oxygen atoms with the GNPs.

The application of metal nanoparticles as an efficient drug delivery system is one of the directions of cancer therapy ***,this strategy requires precise information about how the drug interacts with the applied *** this study,atomic force microscopy combined with infrared spectroscopy(AFm-IR)was used for the first time to investigate the erlotinib adsorption structure on two different types of 15 nm metal nanoparticle mono-layers,namely,silver nanoparticle(AgNP)and gold nanoparticle(AuNP)*** the metal nanoparticles are loosely bound samples,only the tapping AFm-IR mode is suitable for the collection of IR maps and spectra for such a *** obtained results indicated the relevance of the AFm-IR technique for characterizing drug interactions with a metal mono-layer *** investigated drug interacts with the AgNPs mainly through phenyl rings and methoxy moieties,while quinazoline,amino,and ethoxy moieties appear to be farther from the *** the AuNPs,the interaction occurs through both the phenyl ring and the quinazoline ***,the aliphatic groups of erlotinib directly participate in this *** novelty of the present work is also related to the use of the tapping AFm-IR mode to study metal NP mono-layers with a drug adsorbed on *** collected IR maps for the most enhanced erlotinib bands show specific areas with very high signal *** connection between these areas and the"hot spots"typical for the surface plasmon resonance phenomenon of metals is considered.

Concept of a swirling diffuser in batch blending tanks

The mixing of two or more components belongs to the category of the most common unit operations, both in technology and in nature. One particular version is homogenization(blending), the effectivity of which is strongly related to the blending time. Among many differentiated individual solutions of mixing systems used in blenders, one should distinguish the class of agitators with diffusers. An analysis of the character of the velocity field during a blending chamber operation leads to the conclusion that it would be of avail to outfit a straight diffuser with different setups of elbows. In consequence, the vertical direction of the inflowing fluid stream would be changed into the horizontal direction of the outflowing stream, which should intensify the blending process. The concept has been verified experimentally, making use of the tracer methodology. The obtained results confirmed the theoretical conclusion that the blending time for the swirling-diffuser was shorter than for the classical straight one.

Transposable elements significantly contributed to the core promoters in the human genome

Transposable elements(TEs) are major components of the human genome constituting at least half of it. more than half a century ago, Barbara mcClintock and later Roy Britten and Eric Davidson have postulated that they might be major players in the host gene regulation. We have scanned a large amount of data produced by ENCODE project for active transcription binding sites(TFBSs) located in TE-originated parts of polymerase II promoters. In total, more than 35,000 promoters in six different tissues were analyzed and over 26,000 of them harbored TEs. moreover, these TEs usually provide one or more of TFBSs in the host promoters, which resulted in more than 6% of active TFBSs in these regions located in the TE-originated sequences. Rewiring of transcription circuits played a major role in mammalian evolution and consequently increased their functional and morphological diversity. In this large-scale analysis, we have demonstrated that TEs contributed a large fraction of human TFBSs. Interestingly,these TFBSs usually act in a tissue-specific manner. Thus, our study clearly showed that TEs played a significant role in shaping expression pattern in mammals and humans in particular. Furthermore, since several TE families are still active in our genome,they continue to influence not only our genome architecture but also gene functioning in a broader sense.

The paper deals with investigations concerning the structure and state of dispersive precipitations of the phases consolidating in the high-strength steel Weldox 1300 after its high temperature thermomechanical *** use of transmission technique of electron microscopy (TEm) mainly the microstructure and morphology of martensite was analysed,as well as the state of dispersive precipitations of carbides and nitrides resulting from microadditives of such alloys as Nb,V,Ti or B,introduced into the *** revealed both a fine lathed and twin structure of the matrix of martensite in the investigated *** means of the method of electron diffraction particles of secondary strengthening phases of the m(C,N) type of a nanocrystalline size could be identified,and also non-metallic oxide inclusions,affecting the mechanism of strengthening of the investigated steel.

Complete Oxidation of methane over Palladium Supported on Alumina modified with Calcium,Lanthanum,and Cerium Ions

The activity and thermal stability of Pd/Al2O3 and Pd/（Al2O3＋mOx）（m=Ca, La, Ce） palladium catalysts in the reaction of complete oxidation of methane are presented in this study. The catalyst supports were prepared by sol-gel method and they were dried either conventionally or with supercritical carbon dioxide. Then they were impregnated with palladium nitrate solution. The catalysts with unmodified alumina had a high surface area. The activity and thermal stability of the aluminasupported catalyst was also very high. The introduction of calcium, lanthanum, or cerium oxide into alumina support caused a decrease of the surface area in the way dependent on the support precursor drying method. These modifiers decreased the activity of palladium catalysts, and they required higher temperatures for the complete oxidation of methane than unmodified Pd/Al2O3. The improvement of the palladium activity by lanthanum and cerium support modifier was observed only at low temperatures of the reaction.

Pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotheprapy after misdiagnosed gastric cancer: case report and review of the literature

We report the first application of pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy(PIPAC) as a rescue therapy before palliative D2 gastrectomy combined with liver metastasectomy performed in a 49-yearold woman with peritoneal carcinomatosis who was primarily diagnosed with and underwent surgery for a Krukenberg tumor. The PIPAC procedure was performed with the use of cisplatin at 7.5 mg/m2 and doxorubicin at 1.5 mg/m2 for 30 min at 37 ℃. Eight weeks after the PIPAC procedure, the patient underwent open classic D2 gastrectomy with the creation of a Roux-en-Y anastomosis(RNY) combined with liver metastasectomy. The patient underwent the classic protocol for chemotherapy combined with Xeloda. The patient felt better and returned to her daily activities. multicenter data should be gathered to confirm the usefulness of PIPAC as a rescue or neoadjuvant supportive therapy in a very select group of patients who have been recently qualified to undergo classic chemotherapy or standard oncologic surgical procedures.

We present experimental investigations and numerical simulations of a pseudo-2D riser. Experiments were performed for various airflow rates, particle types/diameters, and particle size distributions. Pres- sure distributions along the wall of the riser were measured, Additional measurements from a smaller pseudo-2D riser （Kallio et al., 2009; Shah et al., 2012） were used to analyze horizontal solids volume fraction profiles. The experimental data were compared with simulation results carried out using an Euler-Euler approach, A mesh sensitivity study was conducted for numerical simulations and effects associated with simplifying real 3D geometry to a 2D model were examined. In addition, the effect of using an algebraic equation to represent the granular temperature versus a full partial differential equation also was examined for numerical simulations. Results showed small but significant near-wall sensitivity of the flow variables to mesh size. Substantial differences in mean pressure, solids distribution, and solid velocities were obtained, when 2D and 3D simulation results were compared. Finally, applying the simplified granular temperature equation for turbulent fluidization and for dilute-phase transport can lead to incorrect predictions in models,

Deadwood affects the soil organic matter fractions and enzyme activity of soils in altitude gradient of temperate forests

The main objective of our study has been to determine the role of deadwood in the shaping of the amount of soil organic matter fractions in mountain forest *** this purpose,a climosequence approach comprising north(N)and south(S)exposure along the altitudinal gradient(600,800,1000 and 1200 m a.s.l.)was set *** comparing the properties of decomposing deadwood and those of the soils located directly beneath the decaying wood we drew conclusions about the role of deadwood in the shaping of soil organic matter fractions and soil carbon storage in different climate *** basic properties,enzymatic activity and fractions of soil organic matter(SOm)were determined in deadwood and affected directly by the components released from decaying *** decomposed deadwood impacts soil organic matter stabilization more strongly than the less decayed deadwood and the light fraction of SOm is more sensitive to deadwood effects than the heavy fraction regardless of the location in the altitude *** in SOm mineral-associated fraction C content is more pronounced in soils under the influence of deadwood located in lower locations of warmer *** released from decaying wood stimulate the enzymatic activity of soils that are within the range of deadwood influence.
