Erectile dysfunction （Ed） commonly results from endothelial dysfunction of the systemic vasculature. Although phosphodiesterase type 5 （PdE-5） inhibitors are effective at treating most cases of Ed, they must be taken routinely and are ineffectual for a meaningful number of men. In recent years gene and stem cell-based therapies targeted at the penile endothelium have been gaining momentum in preclinical studies. These early studies reveal that gene and stem cell-based therapies may be both enduring and efficacious, and may eventually lead to a cure for Ed. The following review will highlight our current understanding of endothelial-specific gene and stem cell-based therapies performed to date in a number of experimental animal models.

The novel perfluorinated vinyl ether containing sulfonimide and phosphonic acid functionalities, CF2 = CFOCF2CF(CF3)-OCF2CF2SO2NHSO2(CF2)2P(O)(OH)2, has been synthesized by multiple reaction steps. It is a very strong bi-functional acid and exhibits a high degree of stability in aqueous solution at an elevated temperature. These properties make it an attractive monomer for the preparation of the co-polymer with TFE to obtain the high quality ionomer membrane and proton conductor.

The onset of alcoholic liver disease (ALd) is initiated by different cell types in the liver and a number of different factors including: products derived from ethanol-induced inflammation, ethanol metabolites, and the indirect reactions from those metabolites. Ethanol oxidation results in the production of metabolites that have been shown to bind and form protein adducts, and to increase inflammatory, fibrotic and cirrhotic responses. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has many deleterious effects and plays a significant role in a number of disease processes by increasing inflammatory cytokine release. In ALd, LPS is thought to be derived from a breakdown in the intestinal wall enabling LPS from resident gut bacterial cell walls to leak into the blood stream. The ability of adducts and LPS to independently stimulate the various cells of the liver provides for a two-hit mechanism by which various biological responses are induced and result in liver injury. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to evaluate the effects of a two-hit combination of ethanol metabolites and LPS on the cells of the liver to increase inflamma-tion and fi brosis, and play a role in the development and/or progression of ALd.

The 3d Water Chemistry Atlas is an intuitive,open source,Web-based system that enables the three-dimensional(3d)sub-surface visualization of ground water monitoring data,overlaid on the local geological model(formation and aquifer strata).This paper firstly describes the results of evaluating existing virtual globe technologies,which led to the decision to use the Cesium open source WebGL Virtual Globe and Map Engine as the underlying *** it describes the backend.d.tabase and search,filtering,browse and analysis tools that were developed to enable users to interactively explore the groundwater monitoring data and interpret it spatially and temporally relative to the local geological formations and aquifers via the Cesium *** result is an integrated 3d visualization system that enables environmental managers and regulators to assess groundwater conditions,identify inconsistencies in the data,manage impacts and risks and make more informed.d.cisions about coal seam gas extraction,waste water extraction,and water reuse.

Robust and high-sensitivity thermal probing at the nanoscale based on resonance Raman ratio (R3)

Raman spectroscopy-based temperature sensing usually tracks the change of Raman wavenumber,linewidth and intensity,and has found very broad applications in characterizing the energy and charge transport in nanomaterials over the last *** temperature coefficients of these Raman properties are highly material-dependent,and are subjected to local optical scattering *** a result,Raman-based temperature sensing usually suffers quite large uncertainties and has low ***,a novel method based on dual resonance Raman phenomenon is developed to precisely measure the absolute temperature rise of nanomaterial(nm WS_(2) film in this work)from 170 to 470 K.A 532 nm laser(2.33 eV photon energy)is used to conduct the Raman *** photon energy is very close to the excitonic transition energy of WS_(2) at temperatures close to room temperature.A parameter,termed resonance Raman ratio(R3)Ω=I_(A1g)/IE_(2g) is introduced to combine the temperature effects on resonance Raman scattering for the A_(1g) and E_(2g) modes.Ω has a change of more than two orders of magnitude from 177 to 477 K,and such change is independent of film thickness and local optical *** is shown that when Ω is varied by 1%,the temperature probing sensitivity is 0.42 K and 1.16 K at low and high temperatures,*** on Ω,the in-plane thermal conductivity(k)of a∼25 nm-thick suspend.d.WS_(2) film is measured using our energy transport state-resolved Raman(ET-Raman).k is found.d.creasing from 50.0 to 20.0 Wm^(−1) K^(−1) when temperature increases from 170 to 470 *** agrees with previous experimental and theoretical results and the measurement data using our *** R3 technique provides a very robust and high-sensitivity method for temperature probing of nanomaterials and will have broad applications in nanoscale thermal transport characterization,non-destructive evaluation,and manufacturing monitoring.
