^(68)Gallium-labelled PSMA-PET/cT as a diagnostic and clinical decision-making tool in Asian prostate cancer patients following prostatectomy

Objective: Prostate cancers(Pca) in Asian individuals are molecularly distinct from those found in their caucasian *** is no risk stratification tool for Asian men with rapid biochemical recurrence(BcR) following radical prostatectomy(Rad P). This study aims to assess the detection rate of ^(68)Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen-positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PSMA-PET/cT) for diagnosis of clinical recurrence and as a treatment decision making tool in Asian patients with BcR post-Rad ***: ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET and cT body with/without bone scan [conventional workup(cwU)] were performed in 55 Asian patients with BcR within 36 months post-Rad P. Two blinded reviewers assessed the images. Detection rates of ^(68)Ga PSMAPET/cT were evaluated, and impact on management was reviewed by comparison with ***: Median time to BcR post-Rad P was 8.1 months. Detection rate for ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET/cT was 80%(44/55). A positive scan was significantly associated with increasing prostate-specific antigen(PSA) level [odds ratio(OR) = 1.13(95% cI 1.05–1.30), P =0.017], but not with higher Gleason grade or shorter PSA doubling time. compared to cwU, ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET/cT detected an additional 106 lesions in 33/44 patients with a positive scan, resulting in a change in management in 25/44(56.8%) patients: 10 to hormonal therapy(HT) and whole pelvis radiotherapy(RT) in addition to bed RT, and 15 to palliative HT ***: In the present report, we demonstrated the diagnostic and treatment decision utility of ^(68)Ga PSMA-PET/cT in Asian men with rapid BcR. Detection of small volume nodal and systemic recurrences at low PSA levels(cation with HT-RT or palliative HT in polymetastatic disease.

Luminal acidification in the epididymis is an important process for the regulation of male fertility. Low pH and low bicarbonate concentration are among key factors that keep spermatozoa in a dormant state while they mature and are stored in this organ. Although significant bicarbonate reabsorption is achieved by principal cells in the proximal regions of the epididymis, clear and narrow cells are specialized for net proton secretion. clear cells express very high levels of the vacuolar proton pumping ATPase （V-ATPase） in their apical membrane and are responsible for the bulk of proton secretion. In the present paper, selected aspects of V-ATPase regulation in clear cells are described and potential pathologies associated with mutations of some of the V-ATPase subunits are discussed. （Asian J Androl 2007 July; 9： 476-482）

Uptake of prostate cancer screening and associated factors among chinese men aged 50 or more: a population-based survey

Objective: To investigate the uptake rate of prostate specific antigen(PSA) testing among Hong Kong chinese males aged 50 or above, and identify factors associated with the likelihood of undergoing a PSA ***: A population-based telephone survey was conducted in Hong Kong in 2007. The survey covered demographic information, perceived health status, use of complementary therapy, cancer screening behavior, perceived susceptibility to cancer and family history of cancer. Descriptive statistics, percentages and logistic regression analysis were used for data ***: A total of 1,002 men aged 50 or above took part in the study(response rate =67%), and the uptake rate of PSA testing was found to be 10%. Employment status, use of complementary therapy, perceiving regular visits to a doctor as good for health and the recommendations of health professionals were significant factors associated with PSA ***: The uptake rate of PSA testing in the study population was very low. Among all the factors identified, recommendations from health professionals had the strongest association with the uptake of PSA testing, and they should therefore take an active role in educating this population about cancer prevention and detection.

Economic Growth, Governance and cO2 Emissions in west Africa

Despite being the regions with the least levels of carbon emissions in the world, African countries are facing unique challenges on climate change, increased carbon emission levels and the need for environmental governance improvement. This study, therefore, examined the implications of economic growth and governance on cO2emissions in west Africa. Specifically, the study investigated the role of governance in moderating the effect of economic growth on cO2emissions in west Africa. The study utilized data for 16 west African countries from 2000 to 2020 in an unbalanced panel data framework. Empirical analyses were conducted using the Instrumental Variable Fixed Effects estimator with Driscoll and Kraay Standard Errors, as well as the Instrumental Variable Quantile Regression in order to account for serial correlation, endogeneity and conditional heteroskedasticity. The following conclusions were drawn from the results. First,economic growth significantly increases cO2emissions in the region with the Environmental Kuznet curve hypothesis present. Second, the quantile regression estimates reveal that the effect of economic growth on cO2emissions is higher in countries where the initial level of carbon emissions is considerably high. Third, the results further show that in the presence of improved governance quality, economic growth does not significantly influence cO2emissions in the region. Fourth, political stability and regulatory quality were the only indicators of governance that significantly impacted environmental pollution in the region. Finally, we found that other factors such as trade, urbanization, and renewable energy also significantly influenced cO2emissions in the region. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of governance in moderating the effect of economic growth on cO2emissions, as well as the importance of heterogeneous analysis for understanding the dynamism in economic relationships.

cancer is the major cause of death worldwide and in the local community. Due to the aging population and changes in lifestyle of the citizens, it is expected that the incidence of cancer will continue to increase. In fact, according to the world Health Organization, about 30% of cancer death can be prevented. The fight against cancer relies on support from the government, together with collaborations with the policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the public. Legislation can act as a tool for cancer prevention. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the global cancer burden and to describe how cancer legislation acts as a tool for cancer prevention in the Hong Kong region.

Value of quality of life analysis in liver cancer: A clinician's perspective

Health related quality of life(HRQOL) is increasingly recognized as an important clinical parameter and research endpoint in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc). HRQOL in Hcc patients is multifaceted and affected by medical factor which encompasses Hcc and its complications, oncological and palliative treatment for Hcc, underlying liver disease, as well as the psychological, social or spiritual reaction to the disease. Many patients presented late with advanced disease and limited survival, plagued with multiple symptoms, rendering QOL a very important aspect in their general well being. Various instruments have been developed and validated to measure and report HRQOL in Hcc patients, these included general HRQOL instruments, e.g., Short form(SF)-36, SF-12, Euro Qo L-5D, world Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment 100(wHOQOL-100), world Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment abbreviated version; general cancer HRQOL instruments, e.g., the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of cancer(EORTc) QLQ-c30, Functional Assessment of cancer Therapy(FAcT)-General, Spitzer Quality of Life Index; and liver-cancer specific HRQOL instruments, e.g., EORTc QLQ-Hcc18, FAcT-Hepatobiliary(FAcT-Hep), FAcT-Hep Symptom Index, Trial Outcome Index. Important utilization of HRQOL in Hcc patients included description of symptomatology and HRQOL of patients, treatment endpoint in clinical trial, prognostication of survival, benchmarking of palliative care service and health care valuation. In this review, difficulties regarding the use of HRQOL data in research and clinical practice, including choosing a suitable instrument, problems of missing data, data interpretation, analysis and presentation are examined. Potential solutions are also discussed.

The graphitic carbon nitride(g-c_3N_4) which is a two-dimensional conjugated polymer has drawn broad interdisciplinary attention as a low-cost, metal-free, and visible-light-responsive photocatalyst in the area of environmental remediation. The g-c_3N_4-based materials have excellent electronic band structures, electron-rich properties, basic surface functionalities, high physicochemical stabilities and are ‘‘earth-abundant.'' This review summarizes the latest progress related to the design and construction of g-c_3N_4-based materials and their applications including catalysis, sensing,imaging, and white-light-emitting diodes. An outlook on possible further developments in g-c_3N_4-based research for emerging properties and applications is also included.

OBJEcTIVE The study aims to translate the Sexual FunctionVaginal changes Questionnaire （SVQ） into chinese and to establish its psychometric *** A chinese SVQ was developed by the use of the Brislin model of translation. The content validity and semantic equivalence were assessed by an expert panel. The translated version of SVQ was administered to 75 Hong Kong chinese women who were suffered from gynecological cancer to test its psychometric *** The chinese version of SVQ was compared to the original study for factor analysis. Internal consistency, itemtoscale correlations and test-retest reliability were high. The convergent and divergent validities supported the chinese SVQ to cONcLUSION we conclude that the chinese SVQ appears to be a valid, reliable and feasible disease-specific tool for the assessment of sexual function among chinese patients.

International validation of the chinese University Prognostic Index for staging of hepatocellular carcinoma: a joint United Kingdom and Hong Kong study

The outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc) patients significantly differs between western and eastern population centers. Our group previously developed and validated the chinese University Prognostic Index(cUPI) for the prognostication of Hcc among the Asian Hcc patient population. In the current study, we aimed to validate the cUPI using an international cohort of patients with Hcc and to compare the cUPI to two widely used staging systems, the Barcelona clinic Liver cancer(BcLc) classification and the cancer of the Liver Italian Program(cLIP). To accomplish this goal, two cohorts of patients were enrolled in the United Kingdom(UK; n = 567; 2006-2011) and Hong Kong(HK; n = 517; 2007-2012). The baseline clinical data were recorded. The performances of the cUPI, BcLc, and cLIP were compared in terms of a concordance index(c-index) and were evaluated in subgroups of patients according to treatment intent. The results revealed that the median follow-up durations of the UK and HK cohorts were 27.9 and 29.8 months, respectively. The median overall survival of the UK and HK cohorts were 22.9 and 8.6 months, respectively. The cUPI stratified the patients in both cohorts into three risk subgroups corresponding to distinct outcomes. The median overall survival of the cUPI low-, intermediate-, and high-risk subgroups were 3.15, 1.24, and 0.29 years, respectively, in the UK cohort and were 2.07, 0.32, and 0.10 years, respectively, in the HK cohort. For the patients who underwent curative treatment, the prognostic performance did not differ between the three staging systems, and all were suboptimal. For those who underwent palliative treatment, the cUPI displayed the highest c-index, indicating that this staging system was the most informative for both cohorts. In conclusion, the cUPI is applicable to both western and eastern Hcc patient populations.
