The inhibition and the recovery of brain AChE, BuChE, and NTE activities after acute and subacute administration of DFP were studied in the rat. DFP displayed different specificities in inhibiting these enzymes; inhibition was greatest for BuChE followed by AChE and NTE. Recovery was most rapid for BuChE followed by NTE and AChE. The recovery rates of AChE and BuChE following acute and subacute treatment were similar. however, the recovery rate of NTE in subacutely treated rats was significantly faster than that in acutely treated rats. The results suggest that DFP inhibits these three enzymes and the rates of regeneration of these enzymes are significantly different. (c)1989 Academic Press, inc.

We propose a multiscale method for simulating solids with moving dislocations. Away from atomistic subdomains where the atomistic dynamics are fully resolved, a dislocation is represented by a localized jump profile, superposed on a defect-free field. We assign a thin relay zone around an atomistic subdomain to detect the dislocation profile and its propagation speed at a selected relay time. The detection technique utilizes a lattice time history integral treatment. After the relay, an atomistic computation is performed only for the defect-free field. The method allows one to effectively absorb the fine scale fluctuations and the dynamic dislocations at the interface between the atomistic and continuum domains. in the surrounding region, a coarse grid computation is adequate.

Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is a promising approach to treat cancer.1 it involves the use of three individually nontoxic substances to produce a toxic effect.A photosensitizer,when illuminated with light of an appropriate wavelength,will be activated and convert molecular oxygen into reactive oxygen species(ROS),which can then kill tumor *** success of PDT depends on its potency as well as the targeting of the photosensitizer to the tumor site.2 For example,in photoimmunotherapy,the photosensitizer is conjugated to monoclonal antibodies that direct the photosensitizer to tumor cells that express the specific antigen recognized by the antibodies,and the tumor cells are killed upon light irradiation of the tumor site.3 This direct cytotoxicity is useful in treating localized tumor;however,it has limited applicability when metastasis *** this regard,the activation of antitumor immunity appears to be more promising because most cancer patients die,not from localized tumor,but from cancer metastasis and relapse.

Aim:To describe the current practise of living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),including the patient selection criteria,surgical techniques,management of small-for-size syndrome,postoperative complications,and the results of our units,in the Liver Transplant Centre of Queen Mary hospital,hong kong,one of the high-volume centres for LDLT in ***:Our centre practises careful selection for HCC patients using the University of California,San Francisco(UCSF)criteria,supplemented by alpha-fetoprotein level and the model for end-stage liver disease *** flexibility is offered to enthusiastic donors and recipients in LDLT while balancing the risks and *** pioneered in using the extended right lobe graft and the novel hepatic venoplasty technique,which lessen the risk of hyperperfusion and small-for-size syndrome with improved overall recipient *** were collected prospectively and presented as the mean values and ranges,or the number of patients in proportion of total patient ***:Of our patients,74.9% met the UCSF criteria,and 64.5% met the Milan criteria.A 5-year overall and disease-free survival rate of 78.9% and 76.3% were ***:LDLT is an ideal treatment for HCC in hong kong with regard to the critical organ shortage and high demand for *** current surgical techniques and post-transplant surveillance contribute to the positive outcome.

Purpose-This study examines the career and educational search competencies(CESC),a capability which may be necessary for a successful transition from high school to work or postsecondary education,of students from Shanghai and hong ***/Approach/Methods-The data for this study was taken from the Main Study of PiSA 2012 in Shanghai and hong *** analysis was used to examine the relative impact of different forms of career and educational exploratory activities on students’***-Results showed a consistent pattern of socio-economic inequality in student’s self-reported CESC in the two Chinese cities,which was largely mediated by the family capital or ***,career and educational exploratory activities initiated by schools,enterprises or the students themselves were found to have significant positive associations with CESC regardless of socioeconomic ***/Value-The paper provides empirical evidence for enhancing students’career search capacity through engaging in career exploration in the face of structural *** light of this,the roles of schools,business sectors,and governments in students’capacity building are discussed.

Validated model for prediction of recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplantation in Asian population

BACkGROUND Liver transplantation(LT) is regarded as the best treatment for both primary and recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Post-transplant HCC recurrence rate is relatively low but significant, ranging from 10%-30% according to different series. When recurrence happens, it is usually extrahepatic and associated with poor prognosis. A predictive model that allows patient stratification according to recurrence risk can help to individualize post-transplant surveillance protocol and guidance of the use of anti-tumor immunosuppressive *** To develop a scoring system to predict HCC recurrence after LT in an Asian *** Consecutive patients having LT for HCC from 1995 to 2016 at our hospital were recruited. They were randomized into the training set and the validation set in a60:40 ratio. Multivariable Cox regression model was used to identity factors associated with HCC recurrence. A risk score was assigned to each factor according to the odds ratio. Accuracy of the score was assessed by the area under the receiver operating characteristic *** in total, 330 patients were eligible for analysis(183 in training and 147 invalidation). Recurrent HCC developed in 14.2% of them. The median follow-up duration was 65.6 mo. The 5-year disease-free and overall survival rates were78% and 80%, respectively. On multivariate analysis, alpha-fetoprotein > 400 ng/mL [P = 0.012, hazard ratio(HR) 2.92], sum of maximum tumor size and number(P = 0.013, HR 1.15), and salvage LT(P = 0.033, HR 2.08) were found to be independent factors for disease-free survival. A risk score was calculated for each patient with good discriminatory power(c-stat 0.748 and 0.85, respectively,in the training and validation sets). With the derived scores, patients were classified into low-(0–9), moderate-(> 9–14), and high-risk groups(> 14), and the risk of HCC recurrence in the training and validation sets was 10%, 20%, 54%(cstat 0.67) and 4%, 22%, 62%(c-stat 0.811), accordin

Fidelity measures the similarity between two states and is widely adapted by the condensed matter community as a probe of quantum phase transitions in many-body systems. Despite its success in witnessing quantum critical points, information about the fine structure of a quantum phase one can get from this approach is still limited. Here, we proposed a scheme called fidelity spectrum, By studying the fidelity spectrum, one can obtain information about the characteristics of a phase. in particular, we investigated the spectra in the one-dimensional transverse-field ising model and the two- dimensional kitaev model on a honeycomb lattice. it was found that the sPectra have qualitative differences in the critical and non-critical regions of the two models. From the distributions of them, the dominating k modes in a particular phase could also be captured.

Purpose: We aimed to examine the longitudinal associations between parents' and youth's participation in physical activity(PA).Methods-: One hundred and ninety youth cuompleted self-admitiistered questionnaires 3 times per year from 2011 to 2015, and their parents completed an interviewer-administered questionnaire during a telephone interview once in2011-2012. Data on youth's and parents' activities were classified as interdependent or coactive/***: Youth with one or both parents who participated in interdependent activities were more likely to maintain participation in interdependent activities(hazard ratio(HR) = 3.63: 95% confidence interval(Ci) = 1.30-10.17). Youth's sustained participation in coactive/independent activities was not associated with parents' participation in coactive/independent activities(HR= 0.97; 95%Ci=0.46-2.06).Conclusion: Longitudinal associations between parents' and youth's participation in PA differed across type of PA. Encouraging parents' participation in interdependent activities may promote sustained participation in interdependent activities in youth.
