The erratic supply of electricity in Nigeria has renewed interest in the utilisation of coal for energy selfsufficiency and diversification of the national energy *** this study,selected coal samples from three regions of the Benue Trough Basin were examined through pore water chemistry,X-ray diffraction(XRD),and thermosgravimetric analysis(TGA).The low pH observed for the Lower Benue Trough(LBT)coals indicates the release of sulphur and acids during *** analyses reveal quartz,kaolinite,montmorillonite,albite,pyrite,gypsum and sodium chlorate in the coal *** genetic kaolinite species identified in Imeagha(ImG)coal are detrital kaolinite and the highly crystalline neomorphic *** and jarosite minerals occurred in minor quantities in Garin maiganga(GmG),whereas significant amount of pyrite was detected in Enugu(ENG)*** thermal degradation resulted in the residual mass(Rm)ranging between 4.35%and 56.96%and mass losses(mL)between 43.04%and 95.65%due to the drying,devolatilization,and coke formation in the *** most reactive coal examined was GmG coal,whereas the least reactive was ImG ***(LmZ),GmG,and OKB coals are suited for electricity generation,whereas ENG and ImG coals can be utilised for cement production.

Again-of-function stabilizing somatic mutation in 3β-hydroxysteroiddehydrogenase type 1 （3βHSDI, HSD3B1） was reported in castration-resistant prostate cancer. The A-C nucleotide polymorphism replaced asparagine-367 with threonine （3βHSD1-N367T） as a homozygous somatic mutation in a subset of castration-resistant prostate cancers by loss of heterozygosity of the wild-type allele. Increased stability of 3[HSD I-N367T was associated with decreased ubiquitin-mediated degradation and higher levels of dihydrotestosterone （DHT）. The studies suggest that genetic instability in castration-resistant prostate cancer favors the more stable 313HSD I-N367T mutant that contributes to drug resistance. A somatic mutation in a steroid metabolic enzyme required for DHT synthesis provides further support for intratumoral androgen synthesis contributing to prostate cancer progression.

Optimization and Characterization of Cellulose Extraction from Grevillea robusta (Silky Oak) Leaves by Soda-Anthraquinone Pulping Using Response Surface methodology

Response surface methodology (RSm) using the central composite design (CCD) was applied to examine the impact of soda-anthraquinone pulping conditions on Grevillea robusta fall leaves. The pulping factors studied were: NaOH charge 5% to 20% w/v, pulping time 30 to 180 minutes, and the anthraquinone charge 0.1 to 0.5% w/w based on the oven-dried leaves. The responses evaluated were the pulp yield, cellulose content, and the degree of delignification. Various regression models were used to evaluate the effects of varying the pulping conditions. The optimum conditions attained were;NaOH charge of 14.63%, 0.1% anthraquinone, and a pulping period of 154 minutes, corresponding to 20.68% pulp yield, 80.56% cellulose content, and 70.34% lignin removal. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), was used to determine the most important variables that improve the extraction process of cellulose. The experiment outcomes matched those predicted by the model (Predicted R2 = 0.9980, Adjusted R2 = 0.9994), demonstrating the adequacy of the model used. FTIR analysis confirmed the elimination of the non-cellulosic fiber constituents. The lignin and hemicellulose-related bands (around 1514 cm−1, 1604 cm−1, 1239 cm−1, and 1734 cm−1) decreased with chemical treatment, indicating effective cellulose extraction by the soda-anthraquinone method. Similar results were obtained by XRD, SEm and thermogravimetric analysis of the extracted cellulose. Therefore, Grevillea robusta fall leaves are suitable renewable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly non-wood biomass for cellulose extraction.

Iron Oxides and Their Relations to Colors in Some Soilsof Southern China

Iron oxides from 33 samples of 25 soils derived from various parent materials in the southern China were studied using NaOH selective dissolution technique and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Goethite and hematite were the only two crystalline Fe oxides occurring in a significant quantity. The goethite / (goethite + hematie )ratios ranged from 0 to 1, being the highest in yellow soil, some yellow-red soils and saprolite samples and the lowest in soils derived from purple sandstone where only hematite was present. Al substitution in goethite ranged from 6.6 to 29.9 mol % with a mean value of 16.7 mol %, while substitution of Al in hematite ranged from 0 to 12.1 mol %. The values of Al substitution of hematite in coexisting goethite and hematite were closely related with corresponding values of goethite (r=0.7292, Pmount of hematite (r=0.8109, Pmate hematite contents of soils.

Ribozymes and the mechanisms that underlie RNA catalysis

Ribozymes are widespread, and catalyze some extremely important reactions in the cell. mechanistically most fall into one of two classes, using either metal ions or general acid-base catalysis. The nucleolytic ribozymes fall into the latter class, mostly using nucleobases. A sub-set of these use a combination of guanine base plus adenine acid to catalyze the cleavage reaction. New ribozymes are still being discovered at regular intervals and we can speculate on the potential existence of ribozymes that catalyze chemistry beyond phosphoryl transfer reactions, perhaps using small-molecule coenzymes.

Dupilumab is a recently introduced systemic monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, showing efficacy in clinical trials;. The Gentio metagranitoid presents equigranular and porphyritic facies, modal composition ranging from tonalite to monzogranite with calculated T_(Zr)most samples. Its mineralogy is dominated by quartz and feldspar(77% to 95%), biotite is the only mafic mineral present(2% to 18%) and, titanite, zircon, apatite, allanite are important accessory phases. These rocks range from metaluminous to weakly peraluminous, and have large variation in major and trace elements, and high alkali contents(>6 wt.%). Zircon analyses by LA-ICP-mS and SHRImP yielded a concordia age of 2 119±10 ma for the porphyritic facies and an upper intercept age of 2 111±15 ma for the equigranular facies. The whole-rock Sm-Nd T_(Dm) ages vary from 2.4 to 2.8 Ga with ε_(Nd)(2.1) values between -0.7 and-5.3, indicating crustal derivation from distinct and/or heterogeneous protoliths. Field observations indicate that the Gentio metagranitoid was formed through different pulses of magma. Individual batches were subject to little or even no fractionation process after its emplacement. Although the Gentio metagranitoid crosscuts metamafic and metaultramafic rocks akin to an oceanic arc setting, this pluton is likely originated by partial melting of a more evolved quartz-feldspathic crustal igneous rock in a post-collisional environment, after the accretion of the arcs from the mineiro belt and rocks of the mantiqueira Complex.
