BACKGROUND Tobacco use is a well-docum.nted m.difiable risk factor for perioperative *** To determ.ne the tobacco abstinence rates of patients who m.de cessation efforts prior to a total joint arthroplasty(TJA)*** A retrospective evaluation was perform.d on 88 self-reported tobacco users who underwent TJA between 2014-2022 and had tobacco cessation dates within 3 m. of *** patients were contacted via phone survey to understand their tobacco use pattern,and patient reported outcom.s.A total of 37 TJA patients *** Our cohort was on average 61-years-old,60%(n=22)wom.n,with an average body m.ss index of 30 kg/m.(2).The average follow-up tim. was 2.9±1.9 years.A total of 73.0%(n=27)of patients endorsed com.lete abstinence from.tobacco use prior to *** cessation m.thods were used perioperatively including prescription therapy(13.5%),over the counter nicotine replacem.nt(18.9%),cessation program.(5.4%).At final follow up,43.2%(n=16)of prior tobacco sm.kers reported com.lete *** who were able to m.intain cessation postoperatively had im.roved Patient-Reported Outcom.s m.asurem.nt Inform.tion System.PROm.S)-10 m.ntal health scores(49 vs 58;P=0.01),and hip dysfunction and osteoarthritis outcom. score for joint replacem.nt(***)scores(63 vs 82;P=0.02).No patients in this cohort had a prosthetic joint infection or required revision *** We report a tobacco cessation rate of 43.2%in patients undergoing elective TJA nearly 3 years *** undergoing TJA who were able to rem.in abstinent had im.roved PROm.S-10 m.ntal health scores and *** *** perioperative period provides clinicians a unique opportunity to assist active tobacco sm.kers with cessation efforts and im.rove postoperative outcom.s.

Effect of stress-dependent m.croannulus aperture on well leakage

Debonding at the cem.nt-casing interface is recognized as a principal failure m.chanism.leading to CO_(2) leakage in *** detachm.nt gives rise to a m.croannulus,which notably possesses greater perm.ability than undam.ged cem.nt,underm.ning its sealing ***,the perm.ability of the m.croannulus is regarded as a uniform.value throughout the ***,fundam.ntally,a m.croannulus is one type of fracture,and its gap or aperture size is affected by the effective *** this work,we developed a unique experim.ntal *** equipm.nt facilitates the curing of cem.nt inside a steel casing,the form.tion of a m.croannulus between the casing and the cem.nt,and the investigation of the fluid flow dynam.cs along the m.croannulus under laboratory-replicated in situ *** m.croannulus was form.d by injecting fluid from.one end of the setup,and receiving sim.lar am.unt of fluid on the other end signified the developm.nt of the leakage ***,strain gauges affixed to the casing’s external surface yielded key inform.tion on the m.croannulus’s opening and *** observed a noticeable decline in m.croannulus hydraulic aperture(or perm.ability)in relation to effective stress and an exponential equation fits their *** findings also indicate a distinct behavior when com.aring liquid CO_(2) with ***,it is easier for liquid CO_(2) to create the ***,the hydraulic aperture range for this m.croannulus(0.7-6 m.)is considerably sm.ller than that created by water flow(2-17 m.).Finally,we integrated the stressdependent m.croannulus aperture size into the com.ined analysis of well m.chanical integrity and well *** outcom.s consistently dem.nstrated that when factoring in the stress-dependent aperture sizes,the leakage rates are 3e5 tim.s com.ared to a fixed aperture *** traditional assum.tion of a constant aperture significantly underestim.tes fluid leakage risks.

Patients and physicians understand the im.ortance of self-care following spinal cord injury (SCI), yet m.ny individuals with SCI do not adhere to recom.ended self-care activities despite logistical supports. Neurobehavioral determ.nants of SCI self-care behavior, such as im.ulsivity, are not widely studied, yet understanding them.could inform.efforts to im.rove SCI self-care. We explored associations between im.ulsivity and self-care in an observational study of 35 US adults age 18 - 50 who had traum.tic SCI with paraplegia at least six m.nths before assessm.nt. The prim.ry outcom. m.asure was self-reported self-care. In LASSO regression m.dels that included all neurobehavioral m.asures and dem.graphics as predictors of self-care, dispositional m.asures of greater im.ulsivity (negative urgency, lack of prem.ditation, lack of perseverance), and reduced m.ndfulness were associated with reduced self-care. Outcom. (m.gnitude) sensitivity, a latent decision-m.king param.ter derived from.com.utationally m.deling successive choices in a gam.ling task, was also associated with self-care behavior. These results are prelim.nary;m.re research is needed to dem.nstrate the utility of these findings in clinical settings. Inform.tion about associations between im.ulsivity and poor self-care in people with SCI could guide the developm.nt of interventions to im.rove SCI self-care and help patients with elevated risks related to self-care and secondary health conditions.

The organ-specific toxicity resulting from.m.croplastic(m.)exposure has been extensively explored,particularly concerning the gut,liver,testis,and ***,under natural conditions,these effects are not restricted to specific organs or *** whether m. exposure presents a system.c threat to an entire organism.im.acting factors such as lifespan,sleep,and fecundity,is *** this study,we investigated the effects of dietary exposure to two different doses of m.s(1–5μm.using the terrestrial m.del organism.Drosophila *** indicated that the particles caused gut dam.ge and rem.ined within the digestive *** m. exposure significantly shortened the lifespan of adult *** short-term.exposure disrupted sleep patterns,increasing the length of daytim. sleep ***,one week of m. exposure reduced ovary size,with a trend towards decreased egg-laying in m.ted *** m.s did not penetrate the brain or ovaries,transcriptom. analysis revealed altered gene expression in these *** the ovary,Gene Ontology(GO)analysis indicated genotoxic effects im.acting inflam.ation,circadian regulation,and m.tabolic processes,with significant im.acts on extracellular structure-related *** the brain,GO analysis identified changes in pathways associated with proteolysis and carbohydrate ***,this study provides com.elling evidence of the system.c negative effects of m. exposure,highlighting the urgent need to address and m.tigate environm.ntal m. pollution.

Bats are the second-m.st diverse group of m.m.als in the world,and bat flies are their m.in ***,significant knowledge gaps rem.in regarding these antagonistic interactions,especially since diverse factors such as seasonality and host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by com.aring species richness and com.osition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and m.dularity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and adult host *** captured bats and collected their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sam.ling sites in the savannahs of Am.páState,northeastern region of the Brazilian *** fem.le bats being m.re parasitized and recording greater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled network could be divided into 15 com.artm.nts with 54 links,and all subnetworks com.rised>12 *** total num.er of links ranged from.27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectively),and fem.le and m.le subnetworks had 44 and 41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled network and for all *** results revealed higher bat fly species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas specialization and m.dularity were higher in the dry ***,the subnetwork for fem.le bats displayed higher specialization and m.dularity than the m.le ***,both seasonality and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fly network *** studies should consider these factors when evaluating bat–bat fly interaction networks.

Predicting phosphorus sorption isotherm.param.ters in soil using data of routine laboratory tests

Com.etition between Coral and Algae in Tertiary and Quaternary Reefs: Greenhouse to Icehouse Transitions

The com.etition between coral and algae in m.rine reefs is pervasive through geologic tim.;that com.etition determ.nes the structure and com.osition of reef com.unities, which we see in the fossil record. However, the relationships between coral and calcareous algae in reefs are poorly understood. To study this relationship, several hand sam.les and thin sections were exam.ned from.nine different foralgal reef localities around the world. Foralgal reefs typically extend from.about 20 m.depth or shallower on the seaward side of the reef. The first section is Salt m.untain, Alabam., which preserves a Paleocene reef. It contains a high percentage of red coralline algae with benthic foram.nifera. The second section is IDOP-U1376, IIA Lim.stone, it is m.ddle Eocene, in the form.of an isolated reef sandwiched between two igneous beds. The third section is the Utoe’ Lim.stone, New Caledonia, it is m.ddle Eocene in age and is com.osed m.inly of grain-boundstone units with som. igneous interlayered. The fourth section is the Darnah Form.tion in the West-Darnah roadcut section, Northeast Libya, it is m.ddle Eocene in age, it is com.osed of highly fossiliferous lim.stone (corals, red coralline algae, echinoids, m.llusks, foram.nifers, and bryozoans). The fifth section, the Al Bayda Form.tion (Algal Lim.stone m.m.er) in Northeast Libya, is in the Drayanah—Al Abyar roadcut, Northeast Libya, it has several species of algae but also includes a high percentage of buildups of coral species. The sixth section is the Oligo-m.ocene Al Faidiyah Form.tion (Al Fatayah Cem.nt Quarry) lim.stone unit in Northeast Libya. The seventh section is (Core-core 20) late-early to m.ddle m.ocene Lim.stone Unit-Cicuco Field, NW Colom.ia. Despite its enorm.us benefits,m.ning is respon-sible for intense changes to vegetation and soil ***,after extraction,it is necessary to rehabilitate the m.ned areas,creating better conditions for the establishm.nt of plant species which is *** study evaluated m.neral and organic fertilization on the growth,and carbon and nitrogen(N)m.tabolism.of two Crotalaria species[Cro-talaria spectabilis(exotic species)and Crotalaria m.ypu-rensis(native species from.Carajás m.neral Province(Cm.)]established on a waste pile from.an iron m.ne in Cm..A control(without fertilizer application)and six fertilization m.xtures were tested(i=NPK;ii=NPK+m.cronutrients;iii=NPK+m.cronutrients+organic com.ost;iv=PK;v=PK+m.cronutrients;vi=PK+m.cronutrients+organic com.ost).Fertilization contributed to increased growth of both species,and treatm.nts with NPK and m.cronutrients had the best results(up to 257%***),while organic fertilization did not show *** Crotalaria had a greater num.er of nodules,higher nodule dry m.ss,chlorophyll a and b contents and showed free am.onium.as the predom.nant N form.reflecting greater increm.nts in biom.ss com.ared to native *** having lower growth,the use of this native species in the rehabilitation of m.ning areas should be considered,m.inly because it has good developm.nt and m.ets current governm.nt legislation as an opportunity to restore local biodiversity.

CDC42 controls intestinal epithelial(IEC)stem.cell(IESC)*** aberrant CDC42 initiates intestinal inflam.ation or neoplasia is *** utilized m.dels of inflam.m.tory bowel diseases(IBD),colorectal cancer,aging,and IESC injury to determ.ne the loss of intestinal Cdc42 upon inflam.ation and *** specim.ns were collected to determ.ne the levels of CDC42 in IBD or colorectal ***42 floxed m.ce were crossed with Villin-Cre,Villin-CreERT2 and/or Lgr5-eGFP-IRES-CreERT2,or Bm.1-CreERT2 m.ce to generate Cdc42 deficient ***,colitis,aging,and intestinal organoid were used to evaluate CDC42 upon m.cosal inflam.ation,IESC/progenitor regenerative capacity,and IEC *** studies revealed that increased CDC42 in colorectal cancer correlated with lower survival;in contrast,lower levels of CDC42 were found in the inflam.d IBD *** Cdc42 depletion significantly reduced Lgr5+IEsCs,increased progenitors'hyperplasia,and induced m.cosal inflam.ation,which led to crypt *** Cdc42 depletion m.rkedly enhanced irra-diation-or chem.cal-induced *** or inhibition of Cdc42 reduced colonic Lgr5+IESC *** conclusion,depletion of Cdc42 reduces the IESC regeneration and IEC repair,leading to prolonged m.cosal *** m.nogenic loss of Cdc42 in-duces m.cosal inflam.ation,which could result in intestinal neoplasia in the context of aging.
