This work focuses on a novel lightweight machine learning approach to the task of plant disease classification,posing as a core component of a larger grow-light smart monitoring *** the extent of our knowledge,this work is the first to implement lightweight convolutional neural network architectures leveraging down-scaled versions of inception blocks,residual connections,and dense residual connections applied without pre-training to the PlantVillage *** novel contributions of this work include the proposal of a smart monitor-ing framework outline;responsible for detection and classification of ailments via the devised lightweight net-works as well as interfacing with LED grow-light fixtures to optimize environmental parameters and lighting control for the growth of plants in a greenhouse *** adaptation of dense residual connections achieved the best balance of minimizing model parameters and maximizing performance metrics with accuracy,precision,recall,and F1-scores of 96.75%,97.62%,97.59%,and 97.58%respectively,while consisting of only 228,479 model *** results are further compared against various full-scale state-of-the-art model architectures trained on the PlantVillage dataset,of which the proposed down-scaled lightweight models were capable of performing equally to,if not better than many large-scale counterparts with drastically less com-putational requirements.

Lattice engineering and distortion have been considered one kind of effective strategies for discovering advanced *** instinct chemical flexibility of high-entropy oxides(HEOs)motivates/accelerates to tailor the target properties through phase transformations and lattice ***,a hybrid knowledge-assisted data-driven machine learning(ML)strategy is utilized to discover the A_(2)B_(2)O_(7)-type HEOs with low thermal conductivity(κ)through 17 rare-earth(RE=Sc,Y,La-Lu)solutes optimized A-site.A designing routine integrating the ML and high throughput first principles has been proposed to predict the key physical parameter(kPPs)correlated to the targetedκof advanced *** the smart-designed 6188(5RE_(0.2))_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7)HEOs,the best candidates are addressed and validated by the princi-ples of severe lattice distortion and local phase transformation,which effectively reduceκby the strong multi-phonon scattering and weak interatomic ***,(Sc_(0.2)Y_(0.2)La_(0.2)Ce_(0.2)Pr_(0.2))_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7)with predictedκbelow 1.59 Wm^(−1)k^(−1)is selected to be verified,which matches well with the ex-perimentalκ=1.69 Wm^(−1)k^(−1)at 300 k and could be further decreased to 0.14 Wm^(−1)k^(−1)at 1473 ***,the coupling effects of lattice vibrations and charges on heat transfer are revealed by the cross-validations of various models,indicating that the weak bonds with low electronegativity and few bond-ing charge density and the lattice distortion(r∗)identified by cation radius ratio(r A/r B)should be the kPPs to decreaseκ*** work supports an intelligent designing strategy with limited atomic and electronic kPPs to accelerate the development of advanced multi-component HEOs with proper-ties/performance at multi-scales.

The use of antibiotics in humans and animals has been marked as a significant step in health due to their effectiveness in controlling and treating bacterial infections. The misuse and overuse of antibiotics have been identified as risk factors for bacterial resistance since microorganisms adapt and develop mechanisms to defend against antibiotics. According to the Centers for Disease Protection and Control (CDC), around 23,000 individuals die every year in the United States due to antibiotic resistance complications. As a result, a demand for alternative treatments has been a goal for scientists as the microbes adapt to selective pressure. The aim of this study is to test the antibacterial activity of leaf extracts of Peganum harmala and Haloxylon salicornicum on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria on various mediums. The results of the study showed that both P. harmala and H. salicornicum inhibited the bacterial growth in two different media. The results were also compared with different common antibiotics used in both human’s and animal’s fields and showed a promising outcome as alternative antibiotics.

Despite a significant increase in utilization over the past decade,the number of donation after circulatory death(DCD)organs that are procured and transplanted in the United States(US)remains well below its *** is still room for expansion,as utilizing DCD organs to the fullest extent is currently the most viable solution to the persistent mismatch between supply and demand in *** convened a multidisciplinary transplantation summit to examine various aspects of DCD,with faculty members from around the world with clinical and academic interest in DCD donation and transplantation,including abdominal and cardiothoracic surgeons,organ procurement organization directors,hepatologists,and *** conference focused on identifying barriers to DCD organ utilization and strategies to overcome these *** divide the barriers to DCD utilization into three mains categories:(Ⅰ)policy and process variation;(II)logistical and transportation challenges;and(Ⅲ)higher risk perceptions related to DCD *** each barrier,we proposed a variety of solutions,providing an overview of the status of DCD donation in the US and suggestions on how to increase the use of *** is a specific focus on ex situ machine perfusion,normothermic regional perfusion,and other opportunities to expand DCD utilization without negatively impacting recipient outcomes.

This commentary is based on a series of recent lectures on aerosol-monsoon interactions I gave at the Beijing Normal University in August 2015. A main theme of the lectures is on a new paradigm of ＂An Aerosol-Monsoon-Climate-System＂, which posits that aerosol, like rainfall, cloud, and wind, is an integral component of the monsoon climate system, influencing monsoon weather and climate on M1 timescales. Here, salient issues discussed in my lectures and my personal perspective regarding interactions between atmospheric dynamics and aerosols from both natural and anthropogenic sources are summarized. My hope is that under this new paradigm, we can break down traditional disciplinary barriers, advance a deeper understanding of weather and climate in monsoon regions, as well as entrain a new generation of geoscientists to strive for a sustainable future for one of the most complex and challenging human-natural climate sub-system of the earth.
