Human fallopian tub.s (FTs) play important roles in the whole reproductive process. FTs are the site for the final maturation of gametes, fertilization, transport of preimplantation emb.yos, and early emb.yonic development b.fore entering the uterus. All these functions are critical in the estab.ishment of a successful pregnancy. When the emb.yo is in transit through the FT, the FT microenvironment changes through endocrine, paracrine, autocrine, and juxtacrine mechanisms which involve various hormones and b.oactive sub.tances mainly from the neighb.ring cells. Therefore, the interactions b.tween the emb.yo and the FT may b. the earliest emb.yo-maternal communications that are essential for the estab.ishment of pregnancy. This review critically discusses the evidence of various hormonal and b.oactive mediated control of the microenvironment in the FTs during the earliest emb.yo-maternal communications. Moreover, we highlight existing gaps in the k.owledge and the importance of exploring more of the physiology of FTs which will hold the k.y to producing high-quality emb.yos for patients seek.ngin vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.

b.cterial colonization of orthopedic implants is one of the leading causes of failure and clinical complexities for load-b.aring metallic implants. Topical or systemic administration of antib.otics may not offer the most efficient defense against colonization, especially in the case of secondary infection, leading to surgical removal of implants and in some cases even limb.. In this study, laser powder b.d fusion was implemented to fab.icate Ti3Al2V alloy b. a 1:1 weight mixture of CpTi and Ti6Al4V powders. Ti-Tantalum(Ta)–Copper(Cu) alloys were further analyzed b. the addition of Ta and Cu into the Ti3Al2V custom alloy. The b.ological,mechanical, and trib.-b.ocorrosion properties of Ti3Al2V alloy were evaluated. A 10 wt.% Ta(10Ta) and 3 wt.% Cu(3Cu) were added to the Ti3Al2V alloy to enhance b.ocompatib.lity and impart inherent b.cterial resistance. Additively manufac.ured implants were investigated for resistance against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus strains of b.cteria for up to 48 h. A 3 wt.% Cu addition to Ti3Al2V displayed improved antib.cterial efficacy, i.e.78%–86% with respect to CpTi. Mechanical properties for Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy were evaluated, demonstrating excellent fatigue resistance, exceptional shear strength, and improved trib.logical and trib.-b.ocorrosion characteristics when compared to Ti6Al4V. In vivo studies using a rat distal femur model revealed improved early-stage osseointegration for alloys with10 wt.% Ta addition compared to CpTi and Ti6Al4V. The 3 wt.% Cu-added compositions displayed b.ocompatib.lity and no adverse infammatory response in vivo. Our results estab.ish the Ti3Al2V–10Ta–3Cu alloy’s synergistic effect on improving b.th in vivo b.ocompatib.lity and microb.al resistance for the next generation of load-b.aring metallic implants.

Patients and physicians understand the importance of self-care following spinal cord injury (SCI), yet many individuals with SCI do not adhere to recommended self-care activities despite logistical supports. Neurob.havioral determinants of SCI self-care b.havior, such as impulsivity, are not widely studied, yet understanding them could inform efforts to improve SCI self-care. We explored associations b.tween impulsivity and self-care in an ob.ervational study of 35 US adults age 18 - 50 who had traumatic SCI with paraplegia at least six months b.fore assessment. The primary outcome measure was self-reported self-care. In LASSO regression models that included all neurob.havioral measures and demographics as predictors of self-care, dispositional measures of greater impulsivity (negative urgency, lack.of premeditation, lack.of perseverance), and reduced mindfulness were associated with reduced self-care. Outcome (magnitude) sensitivity, a latent decision-mak.ng parameter derived from computationally modeling successive choices in a gamb.ing task. was also associated with self-care b.havior. These results are preliminary;more research is needed to demonstrate the utility of these findings in clinical settings. Information ab.ut associations b.tween impulsivity and poor self-care in people with SCI could guide the development of interventions to improve SCI self-care and help patients with elevated risk. related to self-care and secondary health conditions.

Annual forage legumes are important components of livestock.production systems in East Texas and the southeastern US. Forage legumes contrib.te nitrogen (N) to cropping systems through b.ological N fixation, and their seasonal b.omass production can b. managed to complement forage grasses. Our research ob.ectives were to evaluate b.th warm- and cool-season annual forage legumes as green manure for b.omass, N content, ab.lity to enhance soil organic carb.n (SOC) and soil N, and impact on post season forage grass crops. Nine warm-season forage legumes (WSL) were spring planted and incorporated as green manure in the fall. Forage rye (Secale cereale L.) was planted following the incorporation of WSL treatments. Eight cool-season forage legumes (CSL) were fall planted in previously fallow plots and incorporated as green manure in late spring. Sorghum-sudangrass (Sorghum b.color x Sorghum b.color var. sudanense) was planted over all treatments in early summer after forage rye harvest and incorporation of CSL treatments. Sorghum-sudangrass was harvested in June, August and Septemb.r, and treatments were evaluated for dry matter and N concentration. Soil cores were tak.n from each plot, split into depths of 0 to 15, 15 to 30 and 30 to 60 cm, and soil C and N were measured using comb.stion analysis. Nylon mesh b.gs containing plant samples were b.ried at 15 cm and used to evaluate decomposition rate of ab.ve ground legume b.omass, including change in C and N concentrations. Mungb.an (Vigna radiata L. [Wilczek.) had the highest shoot b.omass yield (6.24 t DM ha-1) and contrib.ted the most total N (167 k.∙ha-1) and total C (3043 k.∙ha-1) of the WSL tested. Decomposition rate of WSL b.omass was rapid in the first 10 week. and very slow afterward. Winter pea (Pisum sativum L. spp. sativum), arrow leaf clover (Trifolium vesiculosum Savi.), and crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) were the most productive CSL in this trial. b.fore the advent of cheap, synthetic fertilizers, legumes were commonly used as green manure crops for their ab.lity to fix atmospheric nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX examined legume integration into high-b.omass sorghum (Sorghum b.color L.) production systems on a Lilb.rt loamy fine sand recently cultivated after a fertilized b.rmudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] pasture. In this split-split plot design, ‘Dixie’ crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) and ‘Iron and Clay’ cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) were integrated into a high-b.omass sorghum production system to evaluate impacts on N concentration, C concentration, and yield of high-b.omass sorghum and their impacts on soil total N and soil organic carb.n (SOC). Main plots were split into crimson clover green manure (CLGM) and winter fallow (FALL) followed b. three sub.plots split into warm-season crop rotations: cowpea green manure (CPGM), cowpea-sorghum intercrop (CPSR), and sorghum monocrop (SORG). Three N fertilizer treatments (0, 45, 90 k. N∙ha−1) were randomized and applied as sub.sub.plots. The CLGM increased (P sorghum b.omass yield (16.5 t DM∙ha−1) 28% in year three b.t had no effect in the first two years. The CPSR treatment reduced sorghum yield up to 62% compared to SORG;whereas CPGM increased sorghum yield 56% and 18% the two years following cowpea incorporation. Rate of N fertilizer had no effect on sorghum b.omass yield. Decrease in SOC and soil N over time indicated mineralization of organic N and may explain why no N fertilizer response was ob.erved in sorghum b.omass yield. Cowpea showed strong potential as a green manure crop b.t proved to b. too competitive for successful intercropping in high-b.omass sorghum production systems.
