Skilful Forecasts of Summer Rainfall in the Yangtze River Basin from November

Variability in the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM)brings the risk of heavy flooding or drought to the Yangtze River basin,with potentially devastating *** forecasts of the likelihood of enhanced or reduced monsoon rainfall can enable better management of water and hydropower resources by decision-makers,supporting livelihoods and major economic and population centres across eastern *** paper demonstrates that the EASM is predictable in a dynamical forecast model from the preceding November,and that this allows skilful forecasts of summer mean rainfall in the Yangtze River basin at a lead time of six *** skill for May–June–July rainfall is of a similar magnitude to seasonal forecasts initialised in spring,although the skill in June–July–August is much weaker and not consistently ***,there is some evidence for enhanced skill following El Niño *** potential for decadal-scale variability in forecast skill is also examined,although we find no evidence for significant variation.

The Olenekian-Anisian Boundary(OAB)interval is an important time in Earth history,reflecting the last phase of marine ecosystem recovery in the aftermath of the end-Permian mass *** this,the Global Stratotype Section and Point(GSSP)for the base of the Anisian remains *** first appearance of the conodont Chiosella timorensis has been proposed as a potential index for the boundary;however,the discovery of this conodont with ammonoids traditionally considered to be Spathian has generated doubts about its *** taxonomy and relationships of early Anisian conodonts,including species of Chiosella,remain understudied,which leads to difficulties in *** species of Neogondolella(***)and Magnigondolella(***.D)have been recognized from the leading GSSP candidate section for the OAB at De?li Caira,and from an additional OAB section at ***,several species previously identified in Canada and the USA can be recognized from these sections,improving correlation between Tethys and North *** of these species may serve as a suitable alternative proxy for the OAB;for instance,*** appears just below the first Anisian ammonoids in De?li Caira,and just above the first appearance of *** in both De?li Caira and *** work on sections other than the candidate sections,and on the taxonomy of species outside of those traditionally proposed as indices,is required.

Why the particular emphasis proposed in my title on Shakespeare’s importance for experimental or avant-garde American poetry?We can take Shakespeare’s significance for American poetry generally,as for most writers in the English language,as a *** can certainly trace Shakespeare’s presence in a wide range of more mainstream twentieth-century poetry,from John Berryman to Anthony Hecht to Sylvia Plath,and anthologies of poetic responses to Shakespeare *** the use of the ultimate canonical Anglophone writer by experimental poets dedicated to changing the context of writing and reception in their own time raises some interesting questions not just about Shakespeare’s universal accessibility,availability,and usefulness but about later experimental poets’senses of rupture and continuity.I’m interested in Shakespeare less as a site of continuity and tradition and more one of productive conflict and difference,in what Shakespeare has meant for experimental American poets not just as writer but as symbolic figure,as one of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s“representative men.”My goal,then,is not merely to point to the multiple American poetic uses of Shakespeare,but more specifically to suggest how some American poets(from Emerson and williams to such contemporaries as Susan Howe,Harryette Mullen,Jen Bervin,and *** Mohammad)have used or identified with Shakespeare to buttress what is often a particularly American version of avant-garde poetics.

The Nanpanjiang Basin is a key area for paleontological and biostratigraphical study of the Middle *** we studied Middle Triassic conodonts from a well-exposed section,the Shaiwa Section,which is located at the northwest end of the Nanpanjiang Basin.A total of six Anisian conodont zones are recognized;in ascending order,they are:the Nicoraella germanica Zone,the Nicoraella kockeli Zone,the Paragondolella bulgarica Zone,the Neogondolella constricta Zone,the Neogondolella cornuta Zone,and the Paragondolella excelsa Zone,*** first occurrence of Nicoraella kockeli defines the Bithynian-Pelsonian *** Pelsonian-Illyrian boundary is defined by the first occurrence of Neogondolella *** Anisian-Ladinian boundary cannot be recognized at the Shaiwa Section due to the absence of conodont indicative of the ***,the new conodont data indicate that the uppermost strata could be very close to the *** abrasion of conodont surfaces provides evidence for demonstrating reworking at the Shaiwa Section,which makes some conodonts possess a longer stratigraphic range than previously *** variation in relative abundance between blade-shaped conodonts and platform conodonts indicates that segminiplanate elements probably preferred deeper and oxygenated environments whereas a restricted marine environment is more suitable for segminate elements.

Verification of the 2019 GloSea5 Seasonal Tropical Cyclone Landfall Forecast for East China

A prototype climate service was developed and trialled in early 2019 to provide seasonal forecast of the June–July–August(JJA) tropical cyclone(TC) landfall risk for the East China region ahead of the forthcoming typhoon *** forecasts were produced in both March and April 2019 and a final forecast was released to the China Meteorological Administration(CMA) on 1 May 2019. The trial service was produced by using the Met Office Global Seasonal forecast system(GloSea5), and a forecast of the western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH) index was used to infer the TC landfall risk based on a simple linear regression between historical model WPSH indices and observed TC landfalls in East China. The forecast method shows significant skill for forecasting the JJA TC landfall risk in East China with up to three-month lead time, with the greatest skill for predictions initialized in May. The 2019 forecast provided good guidance of the near-average TC activity observed in East China in JJA 2019. Success of the forecast adds confidence to an improved climate service ahead of the 2020 typhoon season.
