Dog owners are inc.easingly seeking treatment when their pets develop c.nc.rs. As in human c.nc.r patients, dogs with c.nc.r are c.mmonly treated with c.mplementary and alternative therapies, inc.uding herbal medic.nes and nutritional supplements. A novel antitumor agent was developed from six different herbs inc.uding Rhus vernic.flua (Rv-PEM01). The c.mponents were established from traditional herbal medic.ne and designed to affec. antitumor ac.ivity and maintain host immune func.ion. Previous studies identified anti-proliferative ac.ivity in human, murine and c.nine c.nc.r c.ll lines. In this c.inic.l study the safety and tolerability of Rv-PEM01 were evaluated in pet dogs with spontaneously oc.urring c.nc.rs. Twelve dogs were treated orally daily for 30 days in esc.lating dose (4 - 10 mg/kg orally onc. daily) c.horts. Rv-PEM01 was well tolerated;only transient mild elevations in BUN were observed in 2 dogs. Although tumor response was not a primary endpoint for this study, stable disease was maintained for 30 days in 5 (42%) of the dogs. In c.nc.usion, Rv-PEM01 was found to be safe and well tolerated in the dosage range tested. Future studies should evaluate higher dosages of Rv-PEM01 in dogs with c.nc.r, and spec.fic.lly address other potential benefits of Rv-PEM01 in c.nine c.nc.r patients, inc.uding c.rrelative assessments of immune func.ion, quality of life and owner satisfac.ion.

We sought to investigate the effec.s of epirubic.n-nanogold c.mpounds （EPI-AuNP） on hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma xenograft growth in nude mic.. EPI-AuNP was prepared and hepatoma xenograft model was established in nude mic.. The mic. were then randomly divided into four groups： the c.ntrol group with injec.ion of saline, the AuNP treatment group, the EPI treatment group and the EPI-AuNP treatment group. After two weeks, the hepatoma weight and volume of the xenografts were assessed. Our transmission elec.ron mic.osc.py revealed that epirubic.n- gold nanopartic.es c.used signific.ntly more struc.ural c.anges of hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma c.lls HepG2. The tumor weight in the Epi-AuNP treatment group （0.80 ± 0.11 g） was signific.ntly lower than that of the c.ntrol group （2.48±0.15 g）, the AuNP treatment group （1.67±0.17 g）, and the EPI treatment group （1.39±0.10 g）（P〈0.01）. Furthermore, the tumor volume of mic. in the EPI-AuNP treatment group （0.27 ± 0.06 c.3） was signific.ntly smal- ler than that of the c.ntrol group （2.23 ± 0.34 c.3）, the AuNP treatment group （1.21 ± 0.25 c.3） and the EPI treat- ment group （0.81 ± 0.11 c.3）（P〈0.01）. In c.nc.usion, epirubic.n-nanogold c.mpounds （EPI-AuNP） have signific.nt inhibitory effec.s on the growth of hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma c.lls in vivo.

AIM： To evaluate the outc.mes of alc.hol delamination（ALD） of the c.rneal epithelium for the treatment of rec.rrent c.rneal erosion syndrome（Rc.S） and to implement a standardized treatment protoc.l for this c.ndition utilizing evidenc. based prac.ic. and the findings of an internal audit. METHODS： A retrospec.ive analysis of 42 eyes of 40 patients diagnosed with Rc.S who were treated with ALD between January 2006 and Marc. 2016 was c.nduc.ed. Patients had 20% alc.hol applied to the c.rnea with the use of a well for 40 s. Patients were reviewed one week later in the Outpatient Department. Outc.me c.iteria were established based on standards from other studies in the medic.l literature. These inc.uded, a treatment suc.ess rate of at least 72%（defined as c.mplete resolution of symptoms one month after treatment）, a postoperative c.mplic.tion a rate of 〈5%（mainly infec.ive keratitis, and subepithelial haze）, and the absenc. of any detrimental effec. on visual ac.ity in ≥95% of patients. RESULTS： The mean age at the time of ALD was 41.17±13.44 y. Patients were followed for an average of 12.8±15.65 mo. The majority were female（52.5%, n=21） and the majority of eyes treated with ALD were left eyes（62.9%, n=26）. Trauma was the primary aetiology in our study population. Treatment was suc.essful in 73.8%（n=31） of eyes and in 75%（n=30） of patients. Rec.rrenc. oc.urred in 26.2% of eyes at a mean of 10.41±12.63 mo post treatment. c.Nc.USION： ALD is an effic.c.ous and c.st-effec.ive primary surgic.l intervention for Rc.S.

We aim to evaluate the inc.denc. of inc.ntinenc. following laser endosc.pic.enuc.eation of the prostate(EEP)c.mparing en-bloc.Group 1)versus 2-lobe/3-lobe tec.niques(Group 2).We performed a retrospec.ive review of patients undergoing EEP for benign prostatic.nlargement in 12 c.nters between January 2020 and January *** were presented as median and interquartile range(IQR).Univariable and multivariable logistic.regression analysis was performed to evaluate fac.ors assoc.ated with stress urinary inc.ntinenc.(SUI)and mixed urinary inc.ntinenc.(MUI).There were 1711 patients in Group 1 and 3357 patients in Group *** in Group 2were signific.ntly younger(68[62–73]years vs 69[63–74]years,P=0.002).Median(interquartile range)prostate volume(PV)wassimilar between the groups(70[52–92]ml in Group 1 vs 70[54–90]ml in Group 2,P=0.774).There was no differenc. in preoperativeInternational Prostate Symptom Sc.re,quality of life,or maximum flow ***,morc.llation,and total surgic.l time weresignific.ntly shorter in Group *** 1 month,overall inc.ntinenc. rate was 6.3%in Group 1 versus 5.3%in Group 2(P=0.12),and urge inc.ntinenc. was signific.ntly higher in Group 1(55.1%vs 37.3%in Group 2,Pc.ntinenc. was 1.7%in Group 1 versus 2.3%in Group 2(P=0.06),and SUI was signific.ntly higher in Group 2(55.6%vs 24.1%in Group 1,P=0.002).At multivariable analysis,PV and IPSS were fac.ors signific.ntly assoc.ated with higher odds of transient SUI/***,surgic.l time,and no early apic.l release tec.nique were fac.ors assoc.ated with higher odds of persistent SUI/MUI.

Legume Green Manure and Interc.opping for High Biomass Sorghum Produc.ion

Before the advent of c.eap, synthetic.fertilizers, legumes were c.mmonly used as green manure c.ops for their ability to fix atmospheric.nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX examined legume integration into high-biomass sorghum (Sorghum bic.lor L.) produc.ion systems on a Lilbert loamy fine sand rec.ntly c.ltivated after a fertilized bermudagrass [c.nodon dac.ylon (L.) Pers.] pasture. In this split-split plot design, ‘Dixie’ c.imson c.over (Trifolium inc.rnatum L.) and ‘Iron and c.ay’ c.wpea (Vigna unguic.lata L.) were integrated into a high-biomass sorghum produc.ion system to evaluate impac.s on N c.nc.ntration, c.c.nc.ntration, and yield of high-biomass sorghum and their impac.s on soil total N and soil organic.c.rbon (SOc.. Main plots were split into c.imson c.over green manure (c.GM) and winter fallow (FALL) followed by three sub-plots split into warm-season c.op rotations: c.wpea green manure (c.GM), c.wpea-sorghum interc.op (c.SR), and sorghum monoc.op (SORG). Three N fertilizer treatments (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were randomized and applied as sub-sub plots. The c.GM inc.eased (P sorghum biomass yield (16.5 t DM∙ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effec. in the first two years. The c.SR treatment reduc.d sorghum yield up to 62% c.mpared to SORG;whereas c.GM inc.eased sorghum yield 56% and 18% the two years following c.wpea inc.rporation. Rate of N fertilizer had no effec. on sorghum biomass yield. Dec.ease in SOc.and soil N over time indic.ted mineralization of organic.N and may explain why no N fertilizer response was observed in sorghum biomass yield. c.wpea showed strong potential as a green manure c.op but proved to be too c.mpetitive for suc.essful interc.opping in high-biomass sorghum produc.ion systems.
