Fly and bottom ash(FABA)produced primarily from coal combustion in a coal-fred power plant consists of fne particles of the organic and inorganic mixture and trace *** FABA samples from coal-fred power plants in Java,Indonesia,had been collected for composition and rare earth element and Yttrium(REY)mode of occurrence *** geochemical composition of both major and trace elements was determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry/atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-MS/AES).Furthermore,the composition of FABA was identifed by petrography with refected light microscopy and X-ray difraction(XRD)***,scanning electron microscope determines the mode of occurrence of REY with an energy-dispersive X-ray(SEM–EDX).The study fnds that the inorganic component of FABA consists of glass,Fe–Mg spinel,mullite,quartz,Fe-oxide mineral,and *** contrast,the organic component is dominated by unburned *** is the most abundant component with cenospheres as major and pleiospheres as minor *** elements analysis indicates REY concentration with heavy REY(HREY)distribution ***,SEM–EDX analysis results show that Yttrium(Y)occurs in glass and has a low concentration in *** the mode occurrence of REY,in particular Yttrium,it can be predicted that alkaline fusion followed by acid leaching will be the most appropriate extraction method to extract REY from Indonesian FABA.

In this decade,coal fly ash(CFA)is considered a potential secondary source of rare earth elements(REEs).However,most REEs in coal fly ash are encapsulated in aluminosilicate glass,making it challenging to recover them through acid *** this study,a sequential alkaline-organic acid leaching was developed for the recovery of REEs from *** effect of alkaline leaching using NaOH solution on the destructive ability of aluminosilicate glass,as well as the mineralogy and morphology changes of the resulting coal fly ash,was first ***,the effectiveness of alkaline leaching on the recovery ability of REEs through organic acid leaching was *** results show that the maximum leaching efficiency for Si and Al,which was obtained at the optimum alkaline leaching conditions,namely NaOH concentration of 10 mol/L,reaction temperature of 65℃,liquid/solid(L/S)ratio of 10 mL/g,and reaction time of 90 min,is 28%and 32%,*** digestion reaction with NaOH lixiviants also causes coal fly ash to become more porous,making it advantageous in the organic acid-leaching process at the REEs recovery *** utilization of the desilicated residue produced from the digestion process in acid leaching effectively increases the overall REEs recovery from 32.2%to 77.6%.

Performance of Cement for Immobilizing Strontium Waste in Saline Environment

For solving the radioactive waste storage problem, there is an idea to store immobilized waste at deep sea. Solidifier material, such as cement should be resistance to saline environment for deep sea storage. So, this research objective is to study the performance of cementation method in immobilizing strontium waste in saline environment. Research was conducted by immobilizing strontium waste using Portland pozzolanic cement, white cement and composite Portland cement. Cement, 65 ppm Sr(NO3)2, sand and water were mixed and cast. Strontium waste varied in 2 v/o, 4 v/o, 6 v/o and 8 v/o. After 28 days curing, the cement block’s compressive strength and leaching rate on saline water were analyzed. Determination of compressive strength was done by using Universal Wood Testing. The density of blocks was measured by picnometer at 25°C. Compressive strength test for Portland pozzolanic cement at various w/c was conducted to confirm the effect of w/c in increasing the strength. For testing strontium leaching rate in water containing 35 ppm NaCl, cement blocks have been immersed in saline water for 21 days. 25 ml samples were taken and analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. Strontium leaching rate on block containing pH 9 of waste was compared to the previous research data of strontium leaching rate on water to know the effect of saline water. To adjust the pH, 1 MNaOH was added into the waste. Effects of various cement type and filler materials (sand, zeolite and baryte) on Portland pozzolanic cement were also compared. The results show that there were almost no effects of salt on immobilized strontium waste, except in pH 9 waste (0.00224 over to0.000199 g/cm2·days). Strontium leaching rates on all cemented waste still meet the IAEA’s standard, so the safety of cemented strontium waste disposal at saline environment could be ensured.

Indonesia’s Local Material Effect in Clay-Based Ceramic Filter Fabrication as an Alternative for Liquid Radioactive Waste Processing Material

One of the procedures to handle liquid radioactive waste is by filtration process. To do this process, suitable filter should be used because of radioactive nature of the waste. Ceramic filter is one of the suitable filters that could be used for this purpose. This paper will discuss about producing ceramic filter from local clay and test its performance. Performance of the filter is given by its flux, compressive strength, Decontamination Factor (DF) and adsorption efficiency. The results show that there are almost no effects of casting pressure on both flux and compressive strength of ceramic filter, but zeolite addition produces different effect. The higher concentration of zeolite will decrease the filter flux and increase filter compressive strength. The optimal composition from this research is 70% w/o clay-25% w/o zeolite-5% w/o charcoal. It has adsorption efficiency (60.36) and Decontamination Factor (2.52). Besides, Sr concentration after filtration is still higher than environmental standard for Sr-90 and more studies are still needed.

Male accessory gland inflammation prevalence in type 2 diabetic patients With symptoms possibly reflecting autonomic neuropathy

Male accessory gland inflammation or infection （MAGI） is a potentially underdiagnosed complication of type 2 diabetes （DM2）; specifically, we reported in a recent study that the frequency of MAGI was 43% among DM2 patients. In previous studies, we have demonstrated that diabetic autonomic neuropathy （DAN） is associated with a peculiar ultrasound characterization of the seminal vesicles （SVs） in DM2 patients. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the frequency of MAGI in two different categories of DM2 patients （i.e. patients with and without symptoms that possibly reflect DAN） and the respective ultrasound characterizations. Sixty DM2 patients with a mean （± s.e.m.） age of 42.0 ± 6.0 years （range： 34-47 years） were classified according to the presence or the absence of symptoms that could possibly reflect DAN （group A： DM2 with symptoms possibly reflecting DAN, n = 28 patients and group B： DM2 without symptoms possibly reflecting DAN, n = 32 patients）. The patients in Group A exhibited a significantly higher frequency of MAGI compared with those in group B patients （P 〈 0.05）; moreover, the Group A patients exhibited a significantly higher frequency of ultrasound signs suggestive of vesiculitis （P 〈 0.05）. Finally, the concentrations of lymphocytes but not the concentrations of the leukocytes in the semen were significantly higher （P 〈 0.05） in group A compared with group B.

Does alcohol have any effect on male reproductive Function？ A review of literature

Although alcohol is widely used, its impact on the male reproductive function is still controversial. Over the years, many studies have investigated the effects of alcohol consumption on sperm parameters and male infertility. This article reviews the main preclinical and clinical evidences. Studies conducted on the experimental animal have shown that a diet enriched with ethanol causes sperm parameter abnormalities, a number of alterations involving the reproductive tract inhibition, and reduced mouse oocyte in vitro fertilization rate. These effects were partly reversible upon discontinuation of alcohol consumption. Most of the studies evaluating the effects of alcohol in men have shown a negative impact on the sperm parameters. This has been reported to be associated with hypotestosteronemia and low-normal or elevated gonadotropin levels suggesting a combined central and testicular detrimental effect of alcohol. Nevertheless, alcohol consumption does not seem to have much effect on fertility either in in vitro fertilization programs or population-based studies. Finally, the genetic background and other concomitant, alcohol consumption-related conditions influence the degree of the testicular damage. In conclusion, alcohol consumption is associated with a deterioration of sperm parameters which may be partially reversible upon alcohol consumption discontinuation.

FSH dosage effect on conventional sperm parameters:a meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies

Follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)represents a therapeutic option in normogonadotropic patients with idiopathic *** aim of this review was to evaluate the possible dose-and drug-dependent efficacy of FSH treatment on conventional sperm *** performed a comprehensive systematic review via a meta-analysis of all available randomized controlled trials,in which FSH administration was compared with placebo or no treatment when administered to normogonadotropic patients with idiopathic *** the 971 articles that were retrieved,5 were fin ally included,in eluding a total of 372 patie nts and 294 ***,FSH treatment was effective in ameliorating the sperm concentration,total count,progressive motility,but not normal *** the basis of the weekly dosage,the studies were classified into those using low(175-262.5 IU per week),intermediate(350-525 IU per week),and high(700-1050 IU per week)*** low doses,FSH improved only sperm *** intermediate doses,FSH ameliorated sperm concentration and *** sperm count and progressive motility showed a trend toward the *** high doses,FSH increased sperm concentration,total sperm count,and progressive *** morphology showed a trend toward the ***,both highly purified FSH(hpFSH)and recombinant human FSH(rhFSH)improved sperm concentration,total sperm count,progressive motility,but not *** different efficacy was observed between these two *** meta-analysis provides evidence in favor of high FSH *** FSH efficacy was not related to the preparation type(recombinant vs highly purified).Further studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of Iong-standing treatment regimes.

Seminal vesicles and diabetic neuropathy： ultrasound evaluation in patients with couple infertility and different levels of glycaemic control

The aim of this study was to evaluate the ultrasound characteristics of the seminal vesicles （SVs） of infertile patients with diabetes mellitus （DM） and diabetic neuropathy （DN） and to investigate possible changes in ultrasound characteristics related to glycaemic control. To accomplish this, 45 infertile patients with type 2 DM and symptomatic DN were selected. Twenty healthy fertile men and 20 patients with idiopathic oligoasthenoteratozoospermia without DM represented the control groups. DM patients were arbitrarily divided into three groups according to glycaemic control level （A=glycosylated haemoglobin 〈7%; B =glycosylated haemoglobin between 7% and 10%; C=glycosylated haemoglobin 〉 10%）. Patients underwent prostate-vesicular transrectal ultrasonography and sperm analysis. The following SV ultrasound parameters were recorded：（i） body antero-posterior diameter （APD）; （ii） fundus APD; （iii） parietal thicknesses of the right and left SVs; and （iv） the number of polycyclic areas within both SVs. We then calculated the following parameters：（i） fundus/body （F/B） ratio; （ii） difference of the parietal thickness between the right and the left SV; and （iii） pre- and post-ejaculatory APD difference. All DM patients had a higher FIB ratio compared to controls （P〈0.05）. Group C had a higher FIB ratio compared to the other DM groups （P〈0.05）. All DM patients had a lower pre- and post-ejaculatory difference of the body SV APD compared to controls （P〈0.05）. Groups A and B had a similar pre- and post-ejaculatory difference of the body SV APD, whereas this difference was lower in Group C （P〈0.05）. In conclusion, infertile DM patients with DN showed peculiar SV ultrasound features suggestive of functional atony, and low glycaemic control was associated with greater expression of these features.

Chronic bacterial prostatitis and irritable bowel syndrome： effectiveness of treatment with rifaximin followed by the probiotic VSL#3

This study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of treatment with rifaximin followed by the probiotic VSL#3 versus no treatment on the progression of chronic prostatitis toward chronic microbial prostate-vesiculitis （PV） or prostate-vesiculo-epididymitis （PVE）. A total of 106 selected infertile male patients with bacteriologically cured chronic bacterial prostatitis （CBP） and irritable bowel syndrome （IBS） were randomly prescribed rifaximin （200 mg, 2 tablets bid, for 7 days monthly for 12 months） and probiotic containing multiple strains VSL#3 （450 × 10^9 CFU per day） or no treatment. Ninety-five of them （89.6%） complied with the therapeutic plan and were included in this study. Group A = ＂6Tx/6-＂： treatment for the initial 6 and no treatment for the following 6 months （n = 26）; Group B = ＂12Tx＂： 12 months of treatment （n = 22）; Group C = ＂6-/6Tx＂： no treatment for the initial 6 months and treatment in the last 6 months （n = 23）; Group D = ＂12-＂： no treatment （n = 24）. The patients of Groups A = ＂6Tx/6-＂ and B = ＂12Tx＂ had the highest frequency of chronic prostatitis （88.5% and 86.4%, respectively）. In contrast, group ＂12-＂： patients had the lowest frequency of prostatitis （33.4%）. The progression of prostatitis into PV in groups ＂6Tx/6-＂（15.5%） and ＂6-/6Tx＂（13.6%） was lower than that found in the patients of group ＂12-＂（45.8%）. Finally, no patient of groups ＂6Tx/6-＂ and ＂6-/6Tx＂ had PVE, whereas it was diagnosed in 20.8% of group ＂12-＂ patients. Long-term treatment with rifaximin and the probiotic VSL#3 is effective in lowering the progression of prostatitis into more complicated forms of male accessory gland infections in infertile patients with bacteriologically cured CBP plus IBS.
