Our.knowledge of how male competition contr.butes to speciation is dominated by investigations of competition between within-species mor.hs or.closely r.lated species that differ.in conspicuous tr.its expr.ssed dur.ng the br.eding season (e.g. color. song). In such studies, it is impor.ant to consider.the manner.in which putatively sexually selected tr.its influence the outcome of competitive inter.ctions within and between types because these tr.its can communicate infor.ation about competitor.quality and may not be utilized by homotypic and heter.typic r.ceiver. in the same way. We studied the r.les of br.eding color.and aggr.ssive behavior. in competition within and between two diver.ent thr.espine stickleback color.types. Our.pr.vious wor. in this system showed that the switch fr.m r.d to black br.eding color.tion is associated with changes in male competition biases. Her., we find that r.d and black males also use differ.nt cur.encies in competition. Winner. of both color.types per.or.ed mor. aggr.ssive behavior. than loser., r.gar.less of whether.the competitor.was of the same or.opposite color.type. But br.eding color.differ.ntly pr.dicted competitive outcomes for.r.d and black males. Males who wer. r.dder.at the star. of competition wer. mor. likely to win when pair.d with homotypic competitor. and less likely to win when pair.d with heter.typic competitor.. In contr.st, black color. though expr.ssed in the br.eding season and condition dependent, was unr.lated to competitive outcomes. Placing questions about the r.le of male competition in speciation in a sexual signal evolution fr.mewor. may pr.vide insight into the "why and how" of aggr.ssion biases and asymmetr.es in competitive ability between closely r.lated mor.hs and species.

Effects of age on mar.thon finishing time among male amateur.r.nner. in Stockholm Mar.thon 1979–2014

Pur.ose: The pur.ose of the pr.sent study was to investigate the age-r.lated changes in the endur.nce per.or.ance among male amateur.mar.thon ***: Subjects wer. taken fr.m the 36 Stockholm Mar.thons held fr.m 1979 thr.ugh 2014, and age and finishing time wer. analyzed for.a total of 312,342 male ***: The r.lation was found to be a second-or.er.polynomial, t = a + bx + cx^2, which models 99.7% of the var.ation in the aver.ge r.nning time t as a function of age x. The model shows that the mar.thon per.or.ance of the aver.ge r.nner.impr.ves up to age 34.3 ± 2.6 year., ther.after.the per.or.ance star.s to decline. A quantification of the age's influence on r.nning time shows that it accounts for.4.5% of the total var.ance seen in the per.or.ance ***: These outcomes indicate that the effect of age on per.or.ance in endur.nce r.nning events is clear.y measur.ble, quantifiable, and possible to descr.be. At the same time the findings indicate that other.factor., such as tr.ining, affect the per.or.ance mor.. A compar.son with the elite showed peak per.or.ance at the same age, but the r.tes of change in per.or.ance with age, impr.vement as well as degr.dation, was found to be higher.among the elite.

Uptake of r.dioiodide by Paenibacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp.,Bur.holder.a sp. and r.odococcus sp. isolated fr.m a bor.al nutr.ent-poor.bog

r.dionuclides, like r.dioiodine（^129I）, may escape deep geological nuclear.waste r.positor.es and migr.te to the sur.ace ecosystems. In sur.ace ecosystems, micr.or.anisms can affect their.movement. Iodide uptake of six bacter.al str.ins belonging to the gener. Paenibacillus,Pseudomonas, Bur.holder.a and r.odococcus isolated fr.m an acidic bor.al nutr.ent-poor.bog was tested. The tests wer. r.n in four.differ.nt gr.wth media at thr.e temper.tur.s. All bacter.al str.ins r.moved iodide fr.m the solution with the highest efficiency shown by one of the Paenibacillus str.ins with 〉 99% of iodide r.moved fr.m the solution in one of the used gr.wth media. Pseudomonas, r.odococcus and one of the two Paenibacillus str.ins showed highest iodide uptake in 1% yeast extr.ct with maximum values for.the distr.bution coefficient（Kd） r.nging fr.m 90 to 270 L/kg DW. The Bur.holder.a str.in showed highest uptake in 1% Tr.ptone（maximum Kd170 L/kg DW）. The Paenibacillus str.in V0-1-LW showed exceptionally high uptake in 0.5% peptone ＋ 0.25% yeast extr.ct br.th（maximum Kd〉 1,000,000 L/kg DW）. Addition of 0.1% glucose to the 0.5% peptone ＋ 0.25% yeast extr.ct br.th r.duced iodide uptake at 4℃ and 20℃ and enhanced iodide uptake at 37℃ compar.d to the uptake without glucose. This indicates that the uptake of glucose and iodide may be competing pr.cesses in these bacter.a. We estimated that in in situ conditions of the bog,the bacter.al uptake of iodide accounts for.appr.ximately 0.1%–0.3% of the total sor.tion of iodide in the sur.ace, subsur.ace peat, gyttja and clay layer..

Adolescent tibial tuber.sity injur.es ar. infr.quent fr.ctur.s usually seen in physically active adolescent males. Power.ul contr.ction of the knee extensor. by sudden acceler.tion or.deceler.tion of the quadr.ceps muscle can r.sult in avulsion fr.ctur.s of the tibial tuber.sity apophysis. In late puber.y, as the gr.wth plate closes, it is tr.nsiently r.placed by fibr.car.ilaginous elements. This tr.nsition causes a per.od of weakened tensile str.ngth, which pr.disposes the tibial tuber.sity to tr.ction injur.. Classification of tibial tuber.sity fr.ctur.s includes types I-V with added A and B subsets to types I, II and III. Multidetector.computed tomogr.phy (MDCT) is a useful tool to mor. accur.tely classify complex, higher.gr.de adolescent tibial tuber.sity avulsion fr.ctur.s when compar.d to plain film. This aids in pr.oper.tive planning and, ther.for., r.sults in impr.ved tr.atment and management.

本文是芬兰语版《伯恩斯坦诗文选集》前言,作者简要介绍了他个人与美国语言派诗人伯恩斯坦的交往及由此他步入的广阔的新诗领域。作者认为,伯恩斯坦的诗独具个性,一反常规,是对传统诗歌理念的反叛。要欣赏伯恩斯坦的诗最有效的方法是将他的诗看成是诗歌领域的干预活动,因为他的诗从来就是对某一理想化的诗歌范式的反动。伯恩斯坦的诗歌与惠特曼和金斯堡的诗有着直接的关联,但他的诗有着伯恩斯坦式的特别韵律,内蕴了一丝总被理智钳制的忧伤。他最近的诗还弥漫着一种超验的乌托邦情怀。
