Coagulation–ultrafiltration(C–UF) is widely used for surface water treatment. With the removal of pollutants, the characteristics of organic matter change and affect the final treatment efficiency and the development of membrane fouling. In this study, we built a dynamic C–UF set-up to carry out the treatment of micro-polluted surface water, to investigate the characteristics of dissolved organic matter from different units. The influences of poly aluminum chloride and poly dimethyldiallylammonium chloride(PDMDAAC) on removal efficiency and membrane fouling were also investigated. Results showed that the dosage of PDMDAAC evidently increased the UV254 and dissolved organic carbon removal efficiencies,and thereby alleviated membrane fouling in the C–UF process. Most hydrophobic bases(HoB)and hydrophobic neutral fractions could be removed by coagulation. Similarly, UF was good at removing HoB compared to hydrophilic substances(HiS) and hydrophobic acid(HoA)fractions. HiS and HoA fractions with low molecule weight accumulated on the surface of the membrane, causing the increase of transmembrane pressure(TMP). Membrane fouling was mainly caused by a removable cake layer, and mechanical cleaning was an efficient way to decrease the TMP.

The scarcity of fully-annotated data becomes the biggest obstacle that prevents many deep learning approaches from widely applied. Weakly-supervised visual learning which can utilize inexact annotations is developed rapidly to remedy such a situation. In this paper, we study the weakly-supervised task achieving pixel-level semantic segmentation only with image-level labels as supervision. Different from other methods,our approach tries to transform the weakly-supervised visual learning problem into a semi-supervised visual learning problem and then utilizes semi-supervised learning methods to solve it. Utilizing this transformation,we can adopt effective semi-supervised methods to perform transductive learning with context information.In the semi-supervised learning module, we propose to use the graph cut algorithm to label more supervision from the activation seeds generated from a classification network. The generated labels can provide the segmentation model with effective supervision information; moreover, the graph cut module can benefit from features extracted by the segmentation model. Then, each of them updates and optimizes the other iteratively until convergence. Experiment results on PASCAL VOC and COCO benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed deep graph cut algorithm for weakly-supervised semantic segmentation.

Confining ultrafine Li3P nanoclusters in porous carbon for highperformance lithium-ion battery anode

High-capacity lithium-containing alloy anodes(e.g.,Li4.4Si,Li4.4Sn,and Li3P)enable lithium-free cathodes(e.g.,Sulfur,V2O5,and FeF3)to produce next-generation lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)with high energy density.Herein,we design a Li3P/C nanocomposite with Li3P ultrafine nanodomains embedded in micrometer-scale porous carbon particles.Benefiting from the unique micro/nanostructure of the Li3P/C nanocomposite,electrons transfer rapidly through the conductive pathway provided by the porous carbon framework and the volume change between Li3P and P is confined in the nanopores of the carbon,which avoids the collapse of the whole Li3P/C composite particles.As expected,the as-achieved Li3P/C nanocomposite provided a high available lithium-ion capacity of 791 mAh/g(calculated based on the mass of Li3P/C)at 0.1 C during the initial delithiation process.Meanwhile,the Li3P/C nanocomposite showed 75%of its 0.5 C capacity at 6 C and stable cycling stability.

SynergyFinder Plus:Toward Better Interpretation and Annotation of Drug Combination Screening Datasets

Combinatorial therapies have been recently proposed to improve the efficacy of anticancer treatment. The Synergy Finder R package is a software used to analyze pre-clinical drug combination datasets. Here, we report the major updates to the Synergy Finder R package for improved interpretation and annotation of drug combination screening results. Unlike the existing implementations, the updated Synergy Finder R package includes five main innovations. 1) We extend the mathematical models to higher-order drug combination data analysis and implement dimension reduction techniques for visualizing the synergy landscape. 2) We provide a statistical analysis of drug combination synergy and sensitivity with confidence intervals and P values. 3)We incorporate a synergy barometer to harmonize multiple synergy scoring methods to provide a consensus metric for synergy. 4) We evaluate drug combination synergy and sensitivity to provide an unbiased interpretation of the clinical potential. 5) We enable fast annotation of drugs and cell lines, including their chemical and target information. These annotations will improve the interpretation of the mechanisms of action of drug combinations. To facilitate the use of the R package within the drug discovery community, we also provide a web server at www.s *** as a user-friendly interface to enable a more fexible and versatile analysis of drug combination data.

Rational coupling of hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) and oxygen evolution reaction(OER) catalysts is extremely important for practical overall water splitting,but it is still challenging to construct such bifunctional heterostructures.Herein,we present a metal-organic framework(MOF)-etching strategy to design free-standing and hierarchical hollow CoS_(2)-MoS_(2) heteronanosheet arrays for both HER and OER.Resulting from the controllable etching of MOF by MoO_(4)^(2-) and in-situ sulfuration,the obtained CoS_(2)-MoS_(2) possesses abundant heterointerfaces with modulated local charge distribution,which promote water dissociation and rapid electrocatalytic kinetics.Moreover,the two-dimensional hollow array architecture can not only afford rich surface-active sites,but also facilitate the penetration of electrolytes and the release of evolved H_(2)/O_(2) bubbles.Consequently,the engineered CoS_(2)-MoS_(2) heterostructure exhibits small overpotentials of 82 mV for HER and 266 mV for OER at 10 mA cm^(-2).The corresponding alkaline electrolyzer affords a cell voltage of 1.56 V at 10 mA cm^(-2) to boost overall water splitting,along with robust durability over 24 h, even surpassing the benchmark electrode couple composed of IrO_(2) and Pt/C The present work may provide valuable insights for developing MOF-derived heterogeneous electrocatalysts with tailored interface/surface structure for widespread application in catalysis and other energyrelated areas.

Efficient Secure Data Provenance Scheme in Multimedia Outsourcing and Sharing

To cope with privacy leakage caused by multimedia outsourcing and sharing,data provenance is used to analyze leaked multimedia and provide reactive accountability.Existing schemes of multimedia provenance are based on watermarking protocols.In an outsourcing scenario,existing schemes face two severe challenges:1)when data leakage occurs,there exists a probability that data provenance results can be repudiated,in which case data provenance tracking fails;and 2)when outsourced data are shared,data encryption transfer causes key management burden outside the schemes,and privacy leakage threatens users.In this paper,we propose a novel data provenance scheme with an improved LUT-based fingerprinting protocol,which integrates an asymmetric watermarking protocol,robust watermark algorithm and homomorphic encryption and digital signatures to achieve full non-repudiation provenance.We build an in-scheme stream cipher to protect outsourced multimedia data from privacy leakage and complicated key management.Our scheme is also lightweight and easy to deploy.Extensive security and performance analysis compares our scheme with the state of the art.The results show that our scheme has not only better provenance security and data confidentiality but also higher efficiency for multimedia outsourcing,sharing and provenance.

The “seed and soil” concept has reformed paradigms for cancer treatment in the past decade. Accumulatingevidence indicates that the intimate crosstalk between cancer cells and stromal cells plays a tremendous role intumor progression. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), the largest population of stroma cells, influencetherapeutic effects through diverse mechanisms. Herein, we summarize the recent advances in the versatilefunctions of CAFs regarding their heterogeneity, and we mainly discuss the pro-tumorigenic functions of CAFswhich promote tumorigenesis and confer therapeutic resistance to tumors. Targeting CAFs is emerging as one ofthe most appealing strategies in anticancer therapies. The endeavors to target or reprogram the specific subtypesof CAFs provide great cancer treatment opportunities, which may provide a better clinical benefit to cancerpatients.

Experimental Research on Inlet Steady Swirl Distortion in an Axial Compressor with Non-Uniform Tip Clearance

The inlet swirl distortion and non-uniform tip clearance have great effects on aero-engine performance and stall margin.In this paper,the effects of paired swirl distortion on the aerodynamic stability and stall inception of a single stage axial compressor with non-uniform tip clearance are quantitatively analyzed by using the swirl distortion descriptors.The experimental results show that the paired swirl distortion dominated by co-rotating swirl improves the stability of the axial compressor.For a single-stage axial compressor with eccentricity of 100%,the stall inception starts at the maximum tip clearance with clean inlet.The initial position of the stall inception is determined by the maximum tip clearance when the small intensity paired swirl distortion exists at the compressor inlet.As the swirl intensity increases,it shifts towards the position of the counter rotating swirl vortex core.The inlet swirl will not change the type of stall inception.

Simulation of three-stage operating temperature for supersaturation water-based condensational growth tube

In order to realize accurate dynamic control of supersaturation and to study condensation growth characteristics of nanoparticles through different levels of super saturation,a series of parametric analyses and systematic comparisons between two-stage and three-stage operating temperature designs were simulated with COMSOL Multiphysics.The simulation results showed that the three-stage operating temperature did not change peak supersaturation compared with two operating temperatures,and the three-stage operating temperature was superior in decreasing the amount of water vapor and the temperature,thus lowering particle loss and variation in detection and collection.The peak supersaturation level increased by 0.3 as the flow rate increased from 0.6 to 2.0 L/min,but the supersaturation peak moved from 0.0027 z0 to 0.08 z0(i.e.,the growth time and the final size decreased by 40%).Peak supersaturation increased as the temperature difference increased or the temperature difference window was shifting left,and minimum activation size decreased.Shifting the 70℃temperature difference window from 9℃,79℃-1℃,71℃for the condenser and initiator temperatures resulted in peak supersaturation in the centerline being above 5.8,and the activation size changed as low as 1 nm.Experiments with flow rates varying by a factor of 2.5(from 0.6 to 1.5 L/min)resulted in a final size decrease of 43%(from 3.2 to 1.8μm),and experimental results of outlet particle size distributions were equivalent with theoretical analysis as the operating temperature was changed.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of different Al species and chitosan（CS） dosages on coagulation performance,floc characteristics（floc sizes,strength and regrowth ability and fractal dimension） and membrane resistance in a coagulation-ultrafiltration hybrid process.Results showed that different Al species combined with humic acid in diverse ways.A1_a had better removal efficiency,as determined by UV_（254） and dissolved organic carbon,which could be further improved by the addition of CS.In addition,the optimal dosage of different Al species was determined to be 4.0 mg/L with the CS concentration of 1.0 mg/L,by orthogonal coagulation experiments.Combining Al_a/A1_b/A1_c,with CS resulted in larger flocs,higher recovery,and higher fractal dimension values corresponding to denser flocs;in particular,the floc size at the steady state stage was four times larger than that obtained with Al species coagulants alone.The results of ultrafiltration experiments indicated that the external fouling percentage was significantly higher than that of internal fouling,at around 85%and 15%,respectively.In addition,the total membrane resistance was significantly decreased due to CS addition.
