Thermal runaway evolution of a 280 Ah lithium-ion battery with LiFePO_(4) as the cathode for different heat transfer modes constructed by mechanical abuse

Lithium iron phosphate batteries have been increasingly utilized in recent years because their higher safety performance can improve the increasing trend of recurring thermal runaway accidents.However,the safety performance and mechanism of high-capacity lithium iron phosphate batteries under internal short-circuit challenges remain to be explored.This work analyzes the thermal runaway evolution of high-capacity LiFePO_(4) batteries under different internal heat transfer modes,which are controlled by different penetration modes.Two penetration cases involving complete penetration and incomplete penetration were detected during the test,and two modes were performed incorporating nails that either remained or were removed after penetration to comprehensively reveal the thermal runaway mechanism.A theoretical model of microcircuits and internal heat conduction is also established.The results indicated three thermal runaway evolution processes for high-capacity batteries,which corresponded to the experimental results of thermal equilibrium,single thermal runaway,and two thermal runaway events.The difference in heat distribution in the three phenomena is determined based on the microstructure and material structure near the pinhole.By controlling the heat dissipation conditions,the time interval between two thermal runaway events can be delayed from 558 to 1417 s,accompanied by a decrease in the concentration of in-situ gas production during the second thermal runaway event.

Effect of safety valve types on the gas venting behavior and thermal runaway hazard severity of large-format prismatic lithium iron phosphate batteries

The safety valve is an important component to ensure the safe operation of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).However,the effect of safety valve type on the thermal runaway(TR)and gas venting behavior of LIBs,as well as the TR hazard severity of LIBs,are not known.In this paper,the TR and gas venting behavior of three 100 A h lithium iron phosphate(LFP)batteries with different safety valves are investigated under overheating.Compared to previous studies,the main contribution of this work is in studying and evaluating the effect of gas venting behavior and TR hazard severity of LFP batteries with three safety valve types.Two significant results are obtained:(Ⅰ)the safety valve type dominates over gas venting pressure of battery during safety venting,the maximum gas venting pressure of LFP batteries with a round safety valve is 3320 Pa,which is one order of magnitude higher than other batteries with oval or cavity safety valve;(Ⅱ)the LFP battery with oval safety valve has the lowest TR hazard as shown by the TR hazard assessment model based on gray-fuzzy analytic hierarchy process.This study reveals the effect of safety valve type on TR and gas venting,providing a clear direction for the safety valve design.

Recently,in cooperation with the Netherlands Cancer Institute,we demonstrated that epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)activation limited the response of liver cancer to lenvatinib.The original article was published in Nature as a cover story,which resulted in considerable attention from major scientific journals.Here,we were invited by Cancer Biology&Medicine to provide comments on preclinical and clinical findings about the combination of lenvatinib plus EGFR inhibitors as a promising strategy for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)treatment.Primary liver cancer represents the sixth most common malignancy and the third leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide,with an estimated 906,000 new cases and 830,000 deaths in 20201.

Kinematic calibration under the expectation maximization framework for exoskeletal inertial motion capture system

This study presents a kinematic calibration method for exoskeletal inertial motion capture (EI-MoCap) system with considering the random colored noise such as gyroscopic drift.In this method, the geometric parameters are calibrated by the traditional calibration method at first. Then, in order to calibrate the parameters affected by the random colored noise, the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm is introduced. Through the use of geometric parameters calibrated by the traditional calibration method, the iterations under the EM framework are decreased and the efficiency of the proposed method on embedded system is improved. The performance of the proposed kinematic calibration method is compared to the traditional calibration method. Furthermore, the feasibility of the proposed method is verified on the EI-MoCap system. The simulation and experiment demonstrate that the motion capture precision is significantly improved by 16.79%and 7.16%respectively in comparison to the traditional calibration method.

Dear Editor,Harnessing the power of the immune system via immune checkpoint inhibition has revolutionized the treatment paradigm of many malignancies,including hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).1 Despite encouraging efficacy seen with the immune checkpoint blockade(ICB)agents in a subset of patients with HCC,however,there remain a large number of HCC patients experience ICB resistance and failed to derive durable benefit from these agents.

Objective The aim of this study was to explore the role and mechanism of ferroptosis in SiO_(2)-induced cardiac injury using a mouse model.Methods Male C57BL/6 mice were intratracheally instilled with SiO_(2) to create a silicosis model.Ferrostatin-1(Fer-1)and deferoxamine(DFO)were used to suppress ferroptosis.Serum biomarkers,oxidative stress markers,histopathology,iron content,and the expression of ferroptosis-related proteins were assessed.Results SiO_(2) altered serum cardiac injury biomarkers,oxidative stress,iron accumulation,and ferroptosis markers in myocardial tissue.Fer-1 and DFO reduced lipid peroxidation and iron overload,and alleviated SiO_(2)-induced mitochondrial damage and myocardial injury.SiO_(2) inhibited Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)and its downstream antioxidant genes,while Fer-1 more potently reactivated Nrf2 compared to DFO.Conclusion Iron overload-induced ferroptosis contributes to SiO_(2)-induced cardiac injury.Targeting ferroptosis by reducing iron accumulation or inhibiting lipid peroxidation protects against SiO_(2) cardiotoxicity,potentially via modulation of the Nrf2 pathway.

Background and Aims:Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection has been found to increase hepatocellular sensitivity to carcinogenic xenobiotics,by unknown mechanisms,in the generation of hepatocellular carcinoma.The pregnane X receptor(PXR)is a key regulator of the body’s defense against xenobiotics,including xenobiotic carcinogens and clinical drugs.In this study,we aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of HBV X protein(HBx)-PXR signaling in the synergistic effects of chemical carcinogens in HBV-associated hepatocarcinogenesis.Methods:The expression profile of PXR-cytochrome p4503A4(CYP3A4)signaling was determined by PCR,western blotting,and tissue microarray.Cell viability and aflatoxin B1(AFB1)cytotoxicity were measured using the cell counting kit-8 assay.Target gene expression was evaluated using transient transfection and real time-PCR.The genotoxicity of AFB1 was assessed in newborn mice with a single dose of AFB1.Results:HBx enhanced the hepatotoxicity of AFB1 by activating CYP3A4 and reducing glutathione Stransferase Mu 1(GSTM1)in cell lines.Activation of PXR by pregnenolone 16α-carbonitrile increased AFB1-induced liver tumor incidence by up-regulating oncogenic KRAS to enhance interleukin(IL)-11:IL-11 receptor subunit alpha-1(IL11RA-1)-mediated inflammation in an HBx transgenic model.Conclusions:Our finding regarding AFB1 toxicity enhancement by an HBx-PXR-CYP3A4/GSTM1-KRASIL11:IL11RA signaling axis provides a rational explanation for the synergistic effects of chemical carcinogens in HBV infection-associated hepatocarcinogenesis.

MicroRNAs in hypoxia and acidic tumor microenvironment

MicroRNAs(miRNAs)are short non-coding RNAs of*22 nucleotides that play important roles in diverse biological functions including tumor adaption,survival,and metabolism homeostasis in specific tumor microenvironment,such as hypoxia and low pH.Hypoxia is a unique physiological condition during tumor development and progression,which alters a set of hypoxia-mediated miRNAs expression.These hypoxia-mediated miRNAs may exhibit either oncogenic activities or tumor-suppressive activities,mainly through the regulation of cellular pathways including hypoxia-inducible factors signaling.Acidic tumor microenvironment develops in hypoxic solid tumors due to a combination of predominant glycolytic metabolism(Warburg effect)and poor fluid clearance due to incomplete vascularization.In this review,we summarize our current understanding of the emerging roles of miRNAs in hypoxia and acidic tumor microenvironment.

针对双绕组感应发电机交直流集成发电系统,为实现简单易调、性能优越、负载适应力强的发电控制,该文提出一种基于线性自抗扰控制器的交直流电压控制策略,通过交流电压和直流电压与控制绕组和功率绕组的传递函数模型,构建交直流电压的线性扩张状态观测器,同时对交流电压有效值、直流电压和电压扰动进行观测,并利用电压和扰动观测值设计线性误差反馈控制律,对交直流电压进行控制。最后,通过仿真和实验验证该控制策略提高电压扰动抑制能力和负载适应性,同时各模块参数可独立设计、控制器结构简单,避免需要较多传感器及降低调参难度。

为了满足飞机多电化对于航空发电系统提出的高功率密度、高品质供电以及交直流混合供电的要求,对比分析了多种交直流集成发电方案,并分析了其优势与不足,提出了一种基于双绕组感应发电机的航空交直流集成发电系统。该系统充分利用了双绕组感应发电机定子有两套三相绕组的特点,能够很好的实现交直流集成发电。在进行发电机初步设计后,基于多目标优化算法,以效率和功率密度为目标对双绕组感应发电机进行优化设计,采用交直流集成发电自抗扰控制策略,以提高该系统动态性能与负载适应性。最后研制了一台60 kW(交流24 kW,直流36 W)的双绕组感应发电机原理样机,实验结果显示,该交直流集成发电系统在交流侧突增、突卸负载时,电压突变在±10 V以内,恢复时间不超过25 ms,在直流侧突增、突卸负载时,电压波动在±30 V以内,恢复时间不超过45 ms,具有良好的动态性能和稳态性能,能够实现发电系统的高品质交直流集成发电。研究成果表明,基于双绕组感应发电机的航空交直流集成发电系统有望为我国多电飞机发电系统提供一种有竞争力的可选方案。
