Effectiveness and safety of combined nimotuzumab and S-1 chemotherapy with concurrent radiotherapy for locally advanced esophageal cancer in malnourished and elderly patients:A prospective phase Ⅱ study

Objective: Definitive chemoradiotherapy(dCRT) is the standard treatment for unresectable locally advanced esophageal cancer. However, this treatment is associated with substantial toxicity, and most malnourished or elderly patients are unable to complete this therapy. Therefore, there is a need for a more suitable radiotherapy combination regimen for this population. This study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a combination regimen comprising chemotherapy with nimotuzumab and S-1 and concurrent radiotherapy for patients with fragile locally advanced esophageal cancer with a high Nutritional Risk Screening 2002(NRS-2002) score.Methods: Eligible patients with unresectable esophageal carcinoma who had an NRS-2002 score of 2 or higher were enrolled. They were treated with S-1 and nimotuzumab with concurrent radiotherapy, followed by surgery or definitive radiotherapy. The primary endpoint was the locoregional control(LRC) rate.Results: A total of 55 patients who met the study criteria were enrolled. After completion of treatment, surgery was performed in 15 patients and radiotherapy was continued in 40 patients. The median follow-up period was 33.3[95% confidence interval(95% CI), 31.4-35.1)] months. The LRC rate was 77.2%(95% CI, 66.6%-89.4%) at 1 year in the entire population. The overall survival(OS) rate and event-free survival(EFS) rate were 57.5% and 51.5% at 3 years, respectively. Surgery was associated with better LRC [hazard ratio(HR)=0.16; 95% CI,0.04-0.70; P=0.015], OS(HR=0.19; 95% CI, 0.04-0.80; P=0.024), and EFS(HR=0.25; 95% CI, 0.08-0.75;P=0.013). Most adverse events were of grade 1 or 2, and no severe adverse events occurred.Conclusions: For malnourished or elderly patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer, radiotherapy combined with nimotuzumab and S-1 is effective and has a good safety profile.

N-Heterocyclic nitrogen Lewis acids are important in synthetic chemistry.Stable cyclic(amino)(aryl)nitrenium cations,cyc-1^(+)-cyc-3^(+),were synthesized by chemical oxidation of aryl azo compounds with different substituents,H and I,at the para positions of the phenyl group.The excited triplet states of cyc-1^(+)-cyc-3^(+) abstract H-atoms step by step to generate radical intermediates cyc-1H^(*+-)cyc-3H^(*+)traced by EPR spectroscopy and products cyc-1H^(2+)-cyc-3H^(2+) characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction.The Lewis acidity of species cyc-1^(+)-cyc-3^(+) are remote substituent-dependent.Cyc-2^(+)-cyc-3^(+) have much higher acidity than those previously reported congeners based on energies of LUMOs.The electrophilicity enables them to form Lewis adducts with neutral Lewis base Me_(3)P,and to gain one-electron to produce neutral radicals cyc-1^(*)-cyc-3^(*).

Accuracy controlling and mechanical behaviors of precursor-derived ceramic SiOC microlattices by projection micro stereolithography(PμSL)3D printing

Precursor-derived ceramic SiOC(PDC-SiOC)microlattices exhibit excellent oxidation resistance,high-temperature stability,and superior mechanical properties.However,the printing accuracy of the PDC-SiOC microlattices by 3D printing is still limited,and mechanical properties of the PDC-SiOC microlattices have not been studied systematically.Here,PDC-SiOC octet microlattices were fabricated by projection micro stereolithography(PμSL)3D printing,and photoabsorber(Sudan III)’s effect on the accuracy was systematically analyzed.The results showed that the addition of Sudan III improved the printing accuracy significantly.Then,the ceramization process of the green body was analyzed in detail.The order of the green body decreased,and most of their chemical bonds were broken during pyrolysis.After that,the PDC-SiOC microlattices with different truss diameters in the range of 52–220μm were fabricated,and their mechanical properties were investigated.The PDC-SiOC microlattices with a truss diameter of 52μm exhibited higher compression strength(31 MPa)than those with bigger truss diameters.The size effect among the PDC-SiOC microlattices was analyzed.Our work provides a deeper insight into the manufacturing of PDC-SiOC micro-scaled architectures by 3D printing and paves a path to the research of the size effect in ceramic structures.

Study on the influencing factors to reduce the recovery time of superconducting tapes and coils for the DC superconducting fault current limiter applications

Superconducting fault current limiters(SFCLs)are important in improving the stability of electrical power systems.However,the existing resistive-type DC SFCL has a long re-covery time,which cannot meet the requirements of power system auto-reclosure.Thus,it is necessary to investigate the methods of reducing recovery time of SFCLs.In the simulations on superconducting tapes,there is a lack of investigation about the effects of design factors of superconducting tapes and coils such as material,thickness,coil radius,coil winding method on recovery characteristics.The objective of this study is to obtain the effects of material and geometric properties of superconducting tapes and coils on recovery characteristics and obtain methods to reduce the recovery time.The recovery times under different conducting currents are also compared by simulations and exper-iments to verify simulation accuracy.The maximum error is below 40%and most of the cases have an error below 10%.Besides,by increasing tape thickness,the recovery time can be reduced by 22%.Tape materials and coil winding methods can be designed ac-cording to the auto-reclosure and current-limiting requirements of the power systems.The research provided directions for the design of superconducting tape and super-conducting coil for resistive-type DC SFCLs.

Simulation of dilatancy-controlled gas migration processes in saturated bentonite using a coupled multiphase flow and elastoplastic H2 M model

Dilatancy-controlled gas flow in preferential pathways plays a key role in the safety analysis of radioactive waste repositories.This is particularly the case for bentonite,an often-preferred barrier material.Gas flow in preferential pathways is characterized by localization and spontaneous behavior,which is challenging to simulate in numerical models due to strong hydro-mechanical coupling.To analyze a laboratory experiment in the framework of the DECOVALEX-2023 project,this study introduced a new approach of combining continuous modelling methods with spatial material properties derived from material heterogeneities and experimental observations.The proposed model utilized hydro-mechanical spatial distributions,namely Young’s modulus and gas entry pressure,and elastoplasticity combined with a linear swelling model.A conceptual strain-dependent permeability approach simulated dilatancycontrolled gas flow based on hydro-mechanical coupling.To test the effectiveness of the presented approach,a gas injection test in a compacted,saturated bentonite sample was simulated using the opensource code OpenGeoSys 5.8 and compared with experimental observations.The presented methodology is capable of simulating localized gas flow in preferential pathways.The spatial distributions of Young’s modulus and gas entry pressure affect the swelling pressure,relative permeability and,in combination with the strain-dependent permeability model,also the intrinsic permeability.

香樟和银杏落叶海水浸提液对东海原甲藻的抑藻效应及其有效成分分析

为寻找防治赤潮的有效手段,以香樟(Cinnamomum camphora)和银杏(Ginkgo biloba)落叶作为抑藻制剂材料,探究其常温海水浸提液对东海赤潮高发区原因种东海原甲藻(Prorocentrum donghaiense)的化感抑制效果,并分别采用顶空-固相微萃取-气相色谱/质谱联用法和超高效液相色谱串联四极杆-飞行时间质谱法分析了香樟和银杏海水浸提液中的有效成分。结果表明:香樟和银杏叶浸提液对东海原甲藻生长的96 h半效应浓度(96 h-EC50)分别为1.23 g·L^(-1)和1.22 g·L^(-1)。高浓度香樟叶浸提液(≥3.0 g·L^(-1))处理72 h时即可使大量东海原甲藻细胞破裂,96 h时对东海原甲藻生长的抑制率高于70%,且在第8天仍可抑制东海原甲藻的生长。银杏叶浸提液对东海原甲藻的抑制作用起效快,处理24 h时,高浓度试验组(≥3.0 g·L^(-1))中东海原甲藻基本失去游动能力,处理96 h时,浓度≥2.0 g·L^(-1)的银杏叶浸提液对东海原甲藻生长的抑制率均达到了80%以上。另外,从香樟叶浸提液中共分离鉴定出了芳樟醇、橙花叔醇、桉油烯醇和桉叶油醇等可能具有化感作用的萜类物质,从银杏叶浸提液中分离鉴定出了儿茶素、芦丁和槲皮素等可能具有化感作用的黄酮类物质,其中橙花叔醇对东海原甲藻的生长具有明显抑制作用。橙花叔醇对东海原甲藻生长的96 h-EC50为1.25 mg·L^(-1);24 h时,4.0 mg·L^(-1)橙花叔醇即可使大量藻死亡,并使藻细胞丧失游动性;96 h时4.0 mg·L^(-1)橙花叔醇对东海原甲藻的抑制率达到了99.55%,所以橙花叔醇是一种有潜力的抑藻活性成分。研究结果为进一步探讨陆生植物对藻类的化感作用机理及制备复方抑藻剂提供了一定的科学参考。

Moderate papain addition improves the physicochemical,microbiological,flavor and sensorial properties of Chouguiyu,traditional Chinese fermented fish

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of papain on the physicochemical and microbiological properties,volatile compound profiles,and sensorial attributes of Chouguiyu.Papain was applied at a dose of 10,50,200,400 U/g fish.Results showed that papain addition improved the release of free amino acids,essential amino acids,eicosapentaenoi acid(EPA,C20:5n3),and docosapentenoic acid(DPA,C22:5n6),respectively.Lower biogenic amines content,higher the volatile compound concentrations and relative abundance of Lactobacillales were also observed.Further results showed that the papain dose group decreased the fermentation time from 10 to 7 days while good organoleptic quality was remained,especially in the 200 U/g dose group.The redundancy analysis(RDA)showed a high correlation between Lactobacillus and the key volatile compounds in the 200 U/g and 400 U/g groups,which indicated that Lactobacillus could contribute to the fatty flavor.In summary,proper papain addition(i.e.200 U/g or 400 U/g)could reduce biogenic amines contents and maintain acceptable sensorial properties of Chouguiyu in a shorter fermentation time.

Air-stable diradical dications with ferromagnetic interaction exceeding the thermal energy at room temperature: from a monomer to a dimer

Two tetraazacyclophane dications(1^(2+) and 2^(2+)) with different remote substituents have been synthesized, isolated and characterized.Their electronic structures and physical property were studied by various spectroscopic techniques, single crystal X-ray diffraction,super conducting quantum interference device(SQUID) measurements and theoretical calculations. The dications have triplet ground states with ferromagnetic interaction exceeding the thermal energy at room temperature. The solid-state structures of these species were tunable by substituent effect, with 1^(2+) as a monomer and 2^(2+) as a dimer.

Constraint-induced movement therapy promotes brain functional reorganization in stroke patients with hemiplegia

Stroke patients with hemiplegia exhibit flexor spasms in the upper limb and extensor spasms in the lower limb, and their movement patterns vary greatly. Constraint-induced movement therapy is an upper limb rehabilitation technique used in stroke patients with hemiplegia; however, studies of lower extremity rehabilitation are scarce. In this study, stroke patients with lower limb hemiplegia underwent conventional Bobath therapy for 4 weeks as baseline treatment, followed by constraint-induced movement therapy for an additional 4 weeks. The 10-m maximum walking speed and Berg balance scale scores significantly improved following treatment, and lower extremity motor function also improved. The results of functional MRI showed that constraint-induced movement therapy alleviates the reduction in cerebral functional activation in patients, which indicates activation of functional brain regions and a significant increase in cerebral blood perfusJon. These results demonstrate that constraint-induced movement therapy promotes brain functional reorganization in stroke patients with lower limb hemiplegia.
