Restricted dispersal determines fine-scale spatial genetic structure of Mongolian gerbils

Restricted gene flow may cause positive spatial genetic autocorrelation of animal populations at fine spatial scales. The Mongolian gerbil is a territorial, social rodent. Territoriality may create social fences to restrict dispersal or gene flow of Mongolian gerbils to a short distance. Restricted dispersal may differentiate fine-scale spatial genetic structure of populations with increasing distances (i.e., isolation by distance [IBD]). Competition for mates and inbreeding avoidance may result in equal dispersal propensity and subsequently similar spatial genetic autocorrelation between males and females of monogamous gerbils. We genotyped 327 gerbils, live captured from 26 burrow systems on a 9-ha plot in northcentral Inner Mongolia, China, using seven microsatellite loci. Spatial genetic autocorrelation was positive within 80 m and became negative from 80 m to 200 m, suggesting restricted gene flow. Inter-group genetic and geographic distances were related positively, supporting the IBD model. Live trapping data demonstrated equal dispersal propensities of male and female gerbils. Restricted dispersal and social organization may determine fine-scale spatial population genetic structure of social rodents.

Introduction:Mosquito-borne flavivirus can lead to serious infectious diseases worldwide and cause high mortality and disability.In order to strengthen epidemiological investigation of flavivirus and meet the needs of early warning of diseases,a simple,rapid,and sensitive detection method needs to be established to prevent and control mosquito-borne diseases.Methods:Using the NS5 gene of flavivirus in GenBank,3 universal primers targeting the conserved regions were designed.The complementary DNAs(cDNAs)of Japanese encephalitis virus(JEV),dengue virus(DENV),West Nile virus(WNV),and yellow fever virus(YFV)were used as the template to optimize the reaction conditions.A heminested reversetranscriptase polymerase chain reaction(hnRT-PCR)was established to verify the sensitivity and specificity of this method and to detect field-caught mosquitoes.Results:Our results showed that this method exhibited better specificity,higher sensitivity,and the ability to detect multiple viruses simultaneously.The lowest detection limit of JEV,DENV-2,YFV,and WNV was 3×10^(4),3×10^(6),3×10^(5),and 3×10^(4)copies/μL,respectively.Mosquito-borne flavivirus was successfully detected in the field-caught mosquito samples using the method established in this study.Discussion:The hnRT-PCR method established in this study can be employed for the rapid detection of flavivirus and provide technical support for early and rapid diagnosis of mosquito-borne flavivirus.

From 17 November to 27 December 2022, extremely cold snowstorms frequently swept across North America and Eurasia. Diagnostic analysis reveals that these extreme cold events were closely related to the establishment of blocking circulations. Alaska Blocking(AB) and subsequent Ural Blocking(UB) episodes are linked to the phase transition of the North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO) and represent the main atmospheric regimes in the Northern Hemisphere. The downstream dispersion and propagation of Rossby wave packets from Alaska to East Asia provide a large-scale connection between AB and UB episodes. Based on the nonlinear multi-scale interaction(NMI) model, we found that the meridional potential vorticity gradient(PVy) in November and December of 2022 was anomalously weak in the mid-high latitudes from North America to Eurasia and provided a favorable background for the prolonged maintenance of UB and AB events and the generation of associated severe extreme snowstorms. However, the difference in the UB in terms of its persistence,location, and strength between November and December is related to the positive(negative) NAO in November(December). During the La Ni?a winter of 2022, the UB and AB events are related to the downward propagation of stratospheric anomalies, in addition to contributions by La Ni?a and low Arctic sea ice concentrations as they pertain to reducing PVyin mid-latitudes.

In this paper, the delay-probability-distribution-dependent stability problem for stochastic neural networks with various time-varying delays is investigated. By considering a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional（LKF） concluding more delaypartitioning term and combining free weight matrices and stochastic processing techniques, an improved delay-probabilitydistribution-dependent condition is built in terms of linear matrix inequality（LMI） so that the system is mean square stable.Finally, a numerical example is given to verify the effectiveness the proposed criterion.

了解动物种群存活特征以及相关环境因子对其变化的独立或整合作用过程,有助于阐明动物种群动态的生态学机制。长爪沙鼠(Meriones unguiculatus)是分布于我国北方典型草原、荒漠草原及其毗邻的农牧交错带的优势鼠种之一。2000年10月至2004年10月通过标志重捕法研究了栖息于内蒙古农牧交错区草地生境的种群动态。本文通过MARK软件包中的CJS和MS模型分析了长爪沙鼠种群表观存活率(Φ,简称存活率)的性别(g)差异和年龄(as)特征表现及其季节变化格局,并对种群存活变化的密度和气候效应加以分析,旨在检验长爪沙鼠种群存活显示季节变化特征,并受密度制约和气候条件反馈调节的假设。结果发现,长爪沙鼠种群存活率初始最优模型Φ(t)p(g*t)中重捕时序(t)效应显著(ANODEV,F27,47=11.05,P<0.001),月季效应最优模型Φ(month)p(g*t)也显示存活率季节变化明显(ANODEV,F5,69=31.69,P<0.001),总体呈现从春季到冬季经历下降再升高的"V"字型动态模式。在无环境因子限制条件下,雌鼠(0.788±0.013)和雄鼠(0.781±0.013)存活率差异不明显;存活率年龄差异表现明显的季节特征(ANODEV,F5,246=67.85,P<0.001),繁殖消耗在一定时期影响成年个体的存活。长爪沙鼠种群存活的季节格局反映其生活史对策中适应高纬度气候和食物等资源季节波动的重要特征。进一步统计发现种群存活率受密度制约,与降水负相关,其中密度制约效应具有一定的时滞,降水作用是即时的,上述效应的作用强度在雌、雄鼠的存活反应上有所差异。这些结果暗示密度制约整合水热条件介导最适栖息地环境变化,引发雌、雄鼠存活率差异性反应,进而影响其他种群参数变化,调节种群增长。这可能是北半球高纬度地区小哺乳动物种群调节的一个重要机制。

Targeted Mutagenesis of NAC Transcription Factor Gene,OsN AC041,Leading to Salt Sensitivity in Rice

Salinity is a major abiotic stress factor that seriously affects plant growth. Many genes are involved in the response to salt stress with various metabolism pathways. A number of plant transcription factor family genes have been found to be involved in the salt stress response, and NAM, ATAF and CUC(NAC) transcription factors are thought to act as active regulators during abiotic stress, especially salt stress. In this study, we detected a rice NAC transcription factor coding gene, OsNAC041, and confirmed that it influenced the germination of seeds under salt stress and salt tolerance of plants. OsNAC041 was primarily expressed in the leaves and located in the nucleus. Furthermore, the CRISPR/Cas9 method was used to obtain a targeted osnac041 mutant, of which the plant height was higher than that of the wild-type, showing increased salt sensitivity. Moreover, RNA-seq analysis revealed a number of differentially expressed genes(DEGs) involved in several important signaling pathways in the osnac041 mutant. Subsequently, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes annotation also revealed differential expression of DEGs associated with mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling, peroxisome, eukaryotictype ABC transporters, photosynthesis and plant hormones, which are involved in stress-related signaling pathways. Overall, our study suggested that OsNAC041 was involved in the salt stress response in rice. These findings not only provide empirical evidence of OsNAC041 function, but also provide new insight into its potential application in rice resistance breeding.

Identifying and Validating a Novel miRNA-mRNA Regulatory Network Associated with Prognosis in Lung Adenocarcinoma

Objective Many studies have revealed the crucial roles of miRNA in multiple human cancers,including lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD).In this study,we sought to explore new miRNA-mRNA pairs that are associated with LUAD prognosis.Methods A novel miRNA-mRNA regulatory network associated with prognosis in LUAD was identified and validated using the bioinformatic tools including OncomiR database,StarBase,miRnet,GEPIA2,UALCAN.Results Twenty key miRNAs were compiled after the analysis of the expression and prognostic value in OncomiR and StarBase.Targeted mRNAs of these key miRNAs were predicted in miRnet,and the resulting mRNAs were also analyzed for their prognostic values and expression patterns in GEPIA2 and UALCAN,respectively.Further expression correlation analysis was performed in StarBase.Subsequently,a new miRNA-mRNA network was built,of which each RNA pair showed negative expression correlation,opposite expression pattern,and prognostic value.Protein-protein interaction network was under construction for the mRNAs,and 19 hub genes were determined.Enrichment analysis showed that“Cell Cycle,Mitotic”was the most significantly enriched term.Then,a miRNA-hub gene sub-network was built.We selected and validated the regulatory relationship of some miRNA-hub pairs,including hsa-miR-1976/RFC2,hsa-let-7c-5p/RFC2,hsa-let-7c-5p/ESPL1,hsa-let-7c-5p/CDC25A,and hsa-miR-101-3p/KIF2C.Moreover,over-expression of hsa-miR-1976 and hsa-let-7c-5p resulted in significant cell cycle arrest.Conclusions Our results determined new prognosis-associated miRNA-mRNA pairs and might shed further light on the mechanism via which miRNA-mRNA network influences prognosis in LUAD.

Seeds are a major source of nutrients for humans and animal livestock worldwide.With improved living standards,high nutritional quality has become one of the main targets for breeding.Storage protein content in seeds,which is highly variable depending on plant species,serves as a pivotal criterion of seed nutritional quality.In the last few decades,our understanding of the molecular genetics and regulatory mechanisms of storage protein synthesis has greatly advanced.Here,we systematically and comprehensively summarize breakthroughs on the conservation and divergence of storage protein synthesis in dicot and monocot plants.With regard to storage protein accumulation,we discuss evolutionary origins,developmental processes,characteristics of main storage protein fractions,regulatory networks,and genetic modifications.In addition,we discuss potential breeding strategies to improve storage protein accumulation and provide perspectives on some key unanswered problems that need to be addressed.

Multidimensional linear cryptanalysis with key difference invariant bias for block ciphers

For block ciphers,Bogdanov et al.found that there are some linear approximations satisfying that their biases are deterministically invariant under key difference.This property is called key difference invariant bias.Based on this property,Bogdanov et al.proposed a related-key statistical distinguisher and turned it into key-recovery attacks on LBlock and TWINE-128.In this paper,we propose a new related-key model by combining multidimensional linear cryptanalysis with key difference invariant bias.The main theoretical advantage is that our new model does not depend on statistical independence of linear approximations.We demonstrate our cryptanalysis technique by performing key recovery attacks on LBlock and TWINE-128.By using the relations of the involved round keys to reduce the number of guessed subkey bits.Moreover,the partial-compression technique is used to reduce the time complexity.We can recover the master key of LBlock up to 25 rounds with about 260.4 distinct known plaintexts,278.85 time complexity and 261 bytes of memory requirements.Our attack can recover the master key of TWINE-128 up to 28 rounds with about 261.5 distinct known plaintexts,2126.15 time complexity and 261 bytes of memory requirements.The results are the currently best ones on cryptanalysis of LBlock and TWINE-128.

预约式方法是解决非信控交叉路口多车协同控制问题的经典方法。传统预约式方法通常假设路口中仅存在智能网联车辆(intelligent and connected vehicle,ICV),缺少对人类驾驶车辆(human-driven vehicle,HDV)和ICV并存情况的讨论。本文基于预约式方法,针对ICV与HDV混行的非信控交叉路口协同控制方法展开研究,并探究ICV渗透率变化对非信控交叉路口通行效率的影响。首先,对混合交通流下非信控交叉路口进行功能区域划分,并提出混合预约多车协同控制架构;其次,基于预约式方法制定考虑HDV驾驶行为特性的混合预约多车协同控制策略,包括ICV单元格预约策略和ICV速度控制策略;最后,基于SUMO/Python搭建非信控交叉路口混合交通联合仿真平台,以路口通过率和路段平均速度为评价指标,在ICV渗透率分别为100%、90%、60%和30%的情况下进行不同交通流量下的仿真验证。结果表明,所提出的控制策略能保证所有车辆安全通过交叉路口,且非信控路口通行效率随ICV渗透率的提高而提高。
