Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)of human fecal samples into germ-free(GF)mice is useful for establishing causal relationships between the gut microbiota and human phenotypes.However,due to the intrinsic differences between human and mouse intestines and the different diets of the two organisms,it may not be possible to replicate human phenotypes in mice through FMT;similarly,treatments that are effective in mouse models may not be effective in humans.In this study,we aimed to identify human gut microbes that undergo significant and consistent changes(i.e.,in relative abundances)after transplantation into GF mice in multiple experimental settings.We collected 16S rDNA-seq data from four published studies and analyzed the gut microbiota profiles from 1713 human–mouse pairs.Strikingly,on average,we found that only 47%of the human gut microbes could be re-established in mice at the species level,among which more than 1/3 underwent significant changes(referred to as“variable taxa”).Most of the human gut microbes that underwent significant changes were consistent across multiple human–mouse pairs and experimental settings.Consequently,about 1/3 of human samples changed their enterotypes,i.e.,significant changes in their leading species after FMT.Mice fed with a controlled diet showed a lower enterotype change rate(23.5%)than those fed with a noncontrolled diet(49.0%),suggesting a possible solution for rescue.Most of the variable taxa have been reported to be implicated in human diseases,with some recognized as the causative species.Our results highlight the challenges of using a mouse model to replicate human gut microbiota-associated phenotypes,provide useful information for researchers using mice in gut microbiota studies,and call for additional validations after FMT.An online database named FMT-DB is publicly available at http://fmt2mice.***.info/#/.

Dear editor,Recently, convolutional neural networks(CNNs) have exhibited high performance particularly in object detection[1], face recognition [2], and image classification [3]. However, there has been little work on CNN models for multidimensional data, such as the three-dimensional(3 D) data,which are typically presented as color images [4]. Traditional real-valued CNN models [4] have achieved state-of-the-art results for gray-scale images.

Despite significant successes achieved in knowledge discovery,traditional machine learning methods may fail to obtain satisfactory performances when dealing with complex data,such as imbalanced,high-dimensional,noisy data,etc.The reason behind is that it is difficult for these methods to capture multiple characteristics and underlying structure of data.In this context,it becomes an important topic in the data mining field that how to effectively construct an efficient knowledge discovery and mining model.Ensemble learning,as one research hot spot,aims to integrate data fusion,data modeling,and data mining into a unified framework.Specifically,ensemble learning firstly extracts a set of features with a variety of transformations.Based on these learned features,multiple learning algorithms are utilized to produce weak predictive results.Finally,ensemble learning fuses the informative knowledge from the above results obtained to achieve knowledge discovery and better predictive performance via voting schemes in an adaptive way.In this paper,we review the research progress of the mainstream approaches of ensemble learning and classify them based on different characteristics.In addition,we present challenges and possible research directions for each mainstream approach of ensemble learning,and we also give an extra introduction for the combination of ensemble learning with other machine learning hot spots such as deep learning,reinforcement learning,etc.

Cloud storage can provide flexible and scalable data storage services to users. However, once data is uploaded to the cloud without a copy in local computers,the user loses control of the data physically. So, it is necessary to study a method to ensure users’ data integrity.Avoiding retrieving enormous storage data or checking the data by users, a proof of storage protocol with public auditing was proposed based on the lattice cryptography. The user computed the signatures of the blocks, and outsourced them to cloud servers. Cloud service providers combined the blocks. Third party auditor verified all blocks’ integrity only through the combined message and signature. Based on the Small integer solution assumption, the presented protocol is secure against the lost attack and tamper attack from cloud service providers. Based on the Learning with error assumption, the presented protocol is secure against the curiosity attack from third party auditor. The protocol is quite efficient, requiring just a few matrix-vector multiplications and samplings from discrete Gaussians.

Textured BaTiO_(3)(BT)-based lead-free ceramics have gained significant attention due to their high piezoelectric coefficient(d)and very large field induced strain(S).However,costly nano-size raw materials,excessively high sintering temperature and low Curie temperature(T_(c))hinder their device applications.In this work,highly[001]_(c)-oriented(Ba_(0.95)Ca_(0.05))(Zr_(0.04)Ti_(0.96))O_(3) ceramics with x mol%CuO(x=0.25,0.5,1.0,2.5)denoted as BCZT-x were synthesized by templated grain growth using micro-sized raw powders.The introduction of CuO sintering agent lowered the sintering temperature by 125℃ to 1450℃,and the BCZT-1.0 achieved a high texture degree of∼99%.In addition,the CuO-based liquid phases eliminated boundaries between BT templates and BCZT matrix powders.Such liquid-phase sintering reduced sintering stresses,decreased the average grain size of BCZT-1.0 from 16μm down to 13μm,and increased the dielectric dispersion coefficientγto 1.63.The almost smoothed out T_(O-T) anomaly in the temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity and comparably high T_(c)(>102℃)lead to better temperature stability.The narrower grain orientation distribution with full width at half maximum(FWHM)of∼5.9°and smaller domains with the size of 0.1–0.5μm in width and 3–8μm in length were obtained,a high field induced maximum strain S_(max) of 0.38%and low H_(s) of 5.2%have been achieved in BCZT-1.0 textured ceramics together with a high and homogeneous piezoelectric stress coefficient d_(33)∼780 pC/N and very large d_(33)∗∼2950 pm/V.

In this paper,a new content-based image retrieval approach is proposed based on high-dimensional information theory.The proposed approach overcomes the disadvantages of the current content-based image retrieval algorithms that suffer from the semantic gap.First,we present a new multidimensional information space’s vector angle cosine algorithm of high-dimensional geometry,then,we provide a detailed description of our images retrieval method including proposal of an overlapping image block method and definition of a similarity degree between images on the non-dimensional information subspaces.Finally,experimental results show the higher retrieval efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Purpose: Germline mutations in CDH1 are associated with hereditary diffuse gastric cancer（HDGC） and have been identified in multiple ethnicities. However, CDH1 germline mutations have seldom been documented in Chinese patients with HDGC, and their frequency remains unclear. Here, we aimed to examine the frequency of CDH1 germline mutations in Chinese patients with HDGC. In total,285 patients who met the International Gastric Cancer Linkage Consortium 2015 testing criteria of HDGC for CDH1 germline mutations were recruited.Methods: All 16 CDH1 exons, including neighboring intronic sequences, were amplified using polymerase chain reaction and screened using Sanger sequencing. Variants were analyzed using Mutation Surveyor V4.0, SIFT, and PolyPhen-2 software.Results: Three nonsense and nine missense CDH1 germline mutations were identified in 21 of 285 index cases（7.4%）. Two CDH1 germline mutations, N405 Y（Asn405 Tyr） and W409 X（Trp409 Ter）, were identified as new variants. In addition, up to 28.6% of CDH1 mutations in the 21 indicated patients were identified as c.1775 G＞C（E551 Q）. The frequency of CDH1 mutations was 6.5%（7/108） in HDGC and 7.9%（14/177） in early onset diffuse gastric cancer（EODGC）. The mutation detection rates of CDH1 in males and females were 6.7%（4/60） and 8.5%（10/117） in EODGC and 4.6%（3/65）and 9.3%（4/43） in HDGC, respectively.Conclusion: These data reveal, for the first time, the type and frequency of CDH1 germline mutations in Chinese HDGC and demonstrate that germline CDH1 mutations are a noteworthy contributor to the high frequency of HDGC in Chinese.

Coverage analysis for sensor networks based on Clifford algebra

To make the unmanned power substation perform independently and efficiently, the theory and structure of a real-time monitoring system based on audio recognition is introduced in this paper. It focuses on the monitoring and identification process of audio data. Firstly the audio signal of substation is acquired by system using sensors. Then multi-audio data is transmitted to monitoring host. After spectrum analysis and process, MFCC feature parameters are extracted as signal features. Feature parameters are inputted into sinusoidal neural network for identification which can identify the operating status and type of failure efficiently and precisely. Numerical results illustrate that this method improves the traditional manual monitoring method and significantly increases the efficiency of device detection.

The coverage performance is the foundation of information acquisition in distributed sensor networks. The previously proposed coverage work was mostly based on unit disk coverage model or ball coverage model in 2D or 3D space, respectively. However, most methods cannot give a homogeneous coverage model for targets with hybrid types. This paper presents a coverage analysis approach for sensor networks based on Clifford algebra and establishes a homogeneous coverage model for sensor networks with hybrid types of targets. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated with examples.
