Transient synthesis of carbon-supported high-entropy alloy sulfide nanoparticles via flash Joule heating for efficient electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution

High entropy alloys(heA)are frequently employed as catalysts in electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution.However,the traditional high entropy alloy synthesis methods are time-consuming,energy-intensive,and environmentally polluting,which limits their application in the hydrogen evolution reaction(heR).This study leveraged the capabilities of flash Joule heating(FJH)to synthesize carbon-supported high-entropy alloy sulfide nanoparticles(CC-S-heA)on carbon cloth(CC)with good self-standing properties within 300 ms.The carbon thermal shock generated by the Joule heating could pyrolyze the sulfur source into gas,resulting in numerous pore structures and defects on CC,forming an S-doped carbon substrate(CC-S).Then the S atoms were used to stably anchor the metal atoms on CC-S to form high-density uniformly dispersed heA particles.The electrochemical test results demonstrated that CC-S-heA prepared at 60 V flash voltage had heR performance comparable to Pt/C.The density functional theory(DFT)calculation indicated that the S atoms on CC-S accelerated the electron transfer between the carbon substrate and heA particles.Moreover,the unique electronic structure of CC-S-heA was beneficial to H*adsorption and promoted catalytic kinetics.The simplicity and versatility of FJH synthesis are of great significance for optimizing the synthesis of heA and improving the quality of heA products,which provides a broad application prospect for the synthesis of nanocatalysts with efficient heR performance.

A modified back analysis method for deep excavation with multi-objective optimization procedure

Real-time prediction of excavation-induced displacement of retaining pile during the deep excavation process is crucial for construction safety.This paper proposes a modified back analysis method with multi-objective optimization procedure,which enables a real-time prediction of horizontal displacement of retaining pile during construction.As opposed to the traditional stage-by-stage back analysis,time series monitoring data till the current excavation stage are utilized to form a multi-objective function.Then,the multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm is applied for parameter identification.The optimized model parameters are immediately adopted to predict the excavation-induced pile deformation in the continuous construction stages.To achieve efficient parameter optimization and real-time prediction of system behavior,the back propagation neural network (BPNN) is established to substitute the finite element model,which is further implemented together with MOPSO for automatic operation.The proposed approach is applied in the Taihu tunnel excavation project,where the effectiveness of the method is demonstrated via the comparisons with the site monitoring data.The method is reliable with a prediction accuracy of more than 90%.Moreover,different optimization algorithms,including non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II),Pareto Envelope-based Selection Algorithm II (PESA-II) and MOPSO,are compared,and their influences on the prediction accuracy at different excavation stages are studied.The results show that MOPSO has the best performance for high dimensional optimization task.

Biochemistry and transcriptome analysis reveal condensed tannins alleviate liver injury induced by regulating cholesterol metabolism pathway

Free cholesterol has been considered to be a critical risk factor of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).It remains unknown whether dietary intake of condensed tannins(CTs)have distinguishable effects to alleviate liver damage caused by a high cholesterol diet.Male C57BL/6 mice were fed a high cholesterol diet for 6 weeks,and given CTs treatment at a dosage of 200 mg/(kg·day)at the same time.The results indicated that compared with mice fed a normal diet,a high cholesterol diet group resulted in significant weight loss,dysregulation of lipid metabolism in blood and liver,and oxidative stress in the liver,but CTs treatment dramatically reversed these negative effects.hematoxylin and eosin(H&E)staining and frozen section observation manifested that CTs treatment could effectively reduce the deposition of liver cholesterol and tissue necrosis caused by high cholesterol intake.CTs alleviated liver injury mainly by regulating the expression of related genes in cholesterol metabolism pathway and AMPK phosphorylation.Our results confirmed that CTs have remarkable cholesterol lowering and anti-liver injury effects in vivo.

Long Short-Term Memory Spiking Neural Networks for Classification of Snoring and Non-snoring Sound Events

Snoring is a widespread occurrence that impacts human sleep quality.It is also one of the earliest symptoms of many sleep disorders.Snoring is accurately detected,making further screening and diagnosis of sleep problems easier.Snoring is frequently ignored because of its underrated and costly detection costs.As a result,this research offered an alternative method for snoring detection based on a long short-term memory based spiking neural network(LSTM-SNN) that is appropriate for large-scale home detection for snoring.We designed acquisition equipment to collect the sleep recordings of 54 subjects and constructed the sleep sound database in the home environment.And Mel frequency cepstral coefficients(MFCCs) were extracted from these sound signals and encoded into spike trains by a threshold encoding approach.They were classified automatically as non-snoring or snoring sounds by our LSTM-SNN model.We used the backpropagation algorithm based on an alternative gradient in the LSTM-SNN to complete the parameter update.The categorization percentage reached an impressive 93.4%,accompanied by a remarkable 36.9% reduction in computer power compared to the regular LSTM model.

Mg-Y cast alloy shows excellent ductility(elongation to failure>15%)compared with pure Mg and commercial Mg cast alloys.By monitoring the microstructure evolution during an in situ tensile test of a Mg-2.5 wt%Y alloy,we identify the activation of prismaticslip,which is rare in Mg.Synchrotron X-ray micro-beam Laue diffraction(μ-Laue)and transmission electron microscopy revealed the morphology of prismaticslip bands and individualdislocations.Density functional theory and molecular dynamics calculations indicate that solute Y can significantly reduce the stacking fault energy(SFE)alongdirection on prismatic plane in Mg lattice and thus facilitate the nucleation ofdislocations during deformation.The presence of freedislocations in the Mg lattice can also lead to nucleation of{10–12}twins even under unfavorable geometric conditions.

Analysis of Fatty Acid in Biological Samples Using Liquid Chromatography–Quadrupole-Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry Under Parallel Reaction Monitoring Mode

Fatty acids(FAs)are an important class of functional small molecules and participate in a variety of life biological processes.This experiment proposed a liquid chromatography–quadrupole-Qrbitrap mass spectrometry(LC–Q-Orbitrap MS)method to perform FA profiling under parallel reaction monitoring(PRM)acquisition mode.The FA was derivatized by 2-dimethylaminoethylamine(DMED)to increase the ionization e fficiency and provide the characterized fragment pattern.The mass spectra obtained from full scan,multiple ion monitoring(MIM),and PRM were compared.The results showed that the protonated ion of FA+DMED–H2O was detected and the neutral loss of 45.06 Da was observed in the tandem mass spectrum.The PRM method provided the highest selectivity and sensitivity for FA detection with the help of accurate mass weight and specific neutral loss-based fragments.The method validation was performed using the FA standards and pooled quality control serum sample,which showed that the established method had good repeatability,stability,and linearity.Finally,the developed method was successfully applied to analyze the rat serum and brain tissue samples for the drug e ffi-cacy evaluation of gross saponin of Tribulus terrestris L.fruit(GSTTF)against middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)-induced ischemic stroke.This method has extensive practicability and great potential in the detection of FA,especially for the analysis of samples with complex matrices.

Incremental Distillation Physics-Informed Neural Network(IDPINN) Accurately Models the Evolution of Optical Solitons

Optical solitons play an important role in long-distance,high-capacity communications.To enhance the precision of soliton dynamics modeling,the authors combine incremental learning techniques with physics-informed neural network.The novel model employs a process of knowledge distillation and fine-tuning to continually integrate fresh physical information into the neural network.This iterative approach leads to a constant improvement in the network’s ability to extract features.The authors conduct experiments on three solitons,and the new method significantly reduces the error compared to the general physics-informed neural network.The modeling approach put forward in this research is anticipated to contribute to the advancement of all-optical computing research and facilitate the development of novel fiber optic communication systems.

Response of ecosystem carbon storage to land use change from 1985 to 2050 in the Ningxia Section of Yellow River Basin,China

Regional sustainable development necessitates a holistic understanding of spatiotemporal variations in ecosystem carbon storage(ECS),particularly in ecologically sensitive areas with arid and semi-arid climate.In this study,we calculated the ECS in the Ningxia Section of Yellow River Basin,China from 1985 to 2020 using the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs(InVEST)model based on land use data.We further predicted the spatial distribution of ECS in 2050 under four land use scenarios:natural development scenario(NDS),ecological protection scenario(EPS),cultivated land protection scenario(CPS),and urban development scenario(UDS)using the patch-generating land use simulation(PLUS)model,and quantified the influences of natural and human factors on the spatial differentiation of ECS using the geographical detector(Geodetector).Results showed that the total ECS of the study area initially increased from 1985 until reaching a peak at 402.36×10^(6) t in 2010,followed by a decreasing trend to 2050.The spatial distribution of ECS was characterized by high values in the eastern and southern parts of the study area,and low values in the western and northern parts.Between 1985 and 2020,land use changes occurred mainly through the expansion of cultivated land,woodland,and construction land at the expense of unused land.The total ECS in 2050 under different land use scenarios(ranked as EPS>CPS>NDS>UDS)would be lower than that in 2020.Nighttime light was the largest contributor to the spatial differentiation of ECS,with soil type and annual mean temperature being the major natural driving factors.Findings of this study could provide guidance on the ecological construction and high-quality development in arid and semi-arid areas.

Higher intakes of lysine,threonine and valine are inversely associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease risk:a community-based case-control study in the Chinese elderly

The associations of individual amino acid with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)risk remained unclear.The present study aimed to investigate the associations between the two in the Chinese elderly.Methods:A community-based health check-up program was conducted in Qingdao,China.NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasonography accompanied by epidemiological investigation.The dietary intakes of amino acids were investigated with 3-day,24-h dietary records and calculated by Nutrition Calculator software.Restricted cubic spline model was used to evaluate a nonlinear relationship between amino acid intake and NAFLD risk.Results:400 NAFLD subjects were identified,and 400 participants were randomly selected as controls and matched by gender and age(±3 years)Dose-response analysis showed that 1000 mg increment of aromatic amino acids(AAAs)was associated with reduced 16%risk of NAFLD.Dietary increments of 750 mg/d threonine,950 mg/d valine,or 1700 mg/d lysine were associated with a 20%reduction in the NAFLD risk(all P for linearityhe present study demonstrated that the dietary increases in milk,eggs and deep-sea fish,which are rich in the amino acids,might contribute to protecting against NAFLD in the elderly.

Inhibitory effect of procyanidin B2 and tannin acid on cholesterol esterase and their synergistic effect with orlistat

This study was aimed to analyze the effect of procyanidin B2(PC)and tannin acid(TA)on the activities of cholesterol esterase(CEase)and the inhibitory mechanisms of enzymatic activity.The interaction mechanisms were investigated by enzymatic kinetics,multi-spectroscopy methods,thermodynamics analysis,molecular docking,and dynamic simulations.PC and TA could bind with CEase and inhibit the activity of enzyme in a mixed-competitive manner and non-competitive manner,which was verified by molecular docking simulations and dynamics simulations.Also,PC and TA showed the synergistic inhibition with orlistat.Fluorescence,UVvis and the thermodynamic analysis revealed that the complexes were formed from CEase and inhibitors by noncovalent interaction.As revealed by the circular dichroism results,both PC and TA decreased enzymatic activities by altering the conformations of CEase.The inhibition of PC and TA on CEase might be one mechanism for its cholesterol-lowering effect.
