Multiplex real-time PCR revealed very high prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth infections among aborigines in Peninsular Malaysia

Objective:To determine the true prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth infections in the Malaysian aborigines using real-time ***:A total of 122 aborigines from seven tribes were recruited from settlements and nearby hospitals which served the communities,located in four states in Peninsular *** stool samples were examined for the presence of soil-transmitted helminth using real-time PCR and *** latter included the direct wet mount and formalin-ether concentration technique(FECT).The infection load in FECT-positive samples was determined by the Kato-Katz *** real-time analyzer detected five helminth species using two sets of ***:The real-time PCR detected soil-transmitted helminth in 98.4% samples(n=122),which were 1.56 times higher than by *** lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura were detected in more than 90% of the samples,while hookworm was detected in 46.7%(Necator americanus) and 13.9%(Ancylostoma sp.)of the *** with previous reports on the Malaysian aborigines showed that the real-time PCR markedly improved the detection of Ascaris lumbricoides,hookworm and Strongyloides *** real-time PCR detected poly-helminths in 92.6%of the samples compared to 28.7% by *** addition,27 samples(22.1%) showed amplification of Strongyloides stercoralis ***:The real-time PCR showed very high prevalence rates of soil-transmitted helminth infections in the aborigines and is the recommended method for epidemiological investigation of soiltransmitted helminth infections in this population.

Crosstalk between degradation and bioenergetics: how autophagy and endolysosomal processes regulate energy production

Cells undergo metabolic reprogramming to adapt to changes in nutrient availability, cellular activity, and transitions in cell states. The balance between glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration is crucial for energy production, and metabolic reprogramming stipulates a shift in such balance to optimize both bioenergetic efficiency and anabolic requirements. Failure in switching bioenergetic dependence can lead to maladaptation and pathogenesis. While cellular degradation is known to recycle precursor molecules for anabolism, its potential role in regulating energy production remains less explored. The bioenergetic switch between glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration involves transcription factors and organelle homeostasis, which are both regulated by the cellular degradation pathways. A growing body of studies has demonstrated that both stem cells and differentiated cells exhibit bioenergetic switch upon perturbations of autophagic activity or endolysosomal processes. Here, we highlighted the current understanding of the interplay between degradation processes, specifically autophagy and endolysosomes, transcription factors, endolysosomal signaling, and mitochondrial homeostasis in shaping cellular bioenergetics. This review aims to summarize the relationship between degradation processes and bioenergetics, providing a foundation for future research to unveil deeper mechanistic insights into bioenergetic regulation.

Deep residual learning for denoising Monte Carlo renderings

Learning-based techniques have recently been shown to be effective for denoising Monte Carlo rendering methods. However, there remains a quality gap to state-of-the-art handcrafted denoisers. In this paper, we propose a deep residual learning based method that outperforms both state-of-the-art handcrafted denoisers and learning-based *** the indirect nature of existing learning-based methods(which e.g., estimate the parameters and kernel weights of an explicit feature based filter), we directly map the noisy input pixels to the smoothed output. Using this direct mapping formulation, we demonstrate that even a simple-and-standard ResNet and three common auxiliary features(depth, normal,and albedo) are sufficient to achieve high-quality denoising. This minimal requirement on auxiliary data simplifies both training and integration of our method into most production rendering pipelines. We have evaluated our method on unseen images created by a different renderer. Consistently superior quality denoising is obtained in all cases.

Feynman’s path integral reformulates the quantum Schrödinger differential equation to be an integral *** has been being widely used to compute internuclear quantum-statistical effects on many-body molecular *** this Review,the molecular Schrödinger equation will first be introduced,together with the BornOppenheimer approximation that decouples electronic and internuclear *** effective semiclassical potentials,e.g.,centroid potential,which are all formulated in terms of Feynman’s path integral,will be discussed and *** semiclassical potentials can be used to directly calculate the quantum canonical partition function without individual Schrödinger’s energy *** a result,path integrations are conventionally performed with Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics sampling *** complement these techniques,we will examine how Kleinert’s variational perturbation(KP)theory can provide a complete theoretical foundation for developing non-sampling/non-stochastic methods to systematically calculate centroid *** enable the powerful KP theory to be practical for many-body molecular systems,we have proposed a new path-integral method:automated integrationfree path-integral(AIF-PI)*** to the integration-free and computationally inexpensive characteristics of our AIF-PI method,we have used it to perform ab initio path-integral calculations of kinetic isotope effects on proton-transfer and RNA-related phosphoryl-transfer chemical *** computational procedure of using our AIF-PI method,along with the features of our new centroid path-integral theory at the minimum of the absolute-zero energy(AMAZE),are also highlighted in this review.

DYNAMIC MODEL AND SIMULATION OF A NOVEL ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC FULLY VARIABLE VALVE SYSTEM FOR FOUR-STROKE AUTOMOTIVE ENGINES

In modem four-stroke engine technology, variable valve timing and lift control offers potential benefits for making a high-performance engine. A novel electro-hydraulic fully variable valve train for four-stroke automotive engines is introduced. The construction of the nonlinear mathematic model of the valve train system and its dynamic analysis are also presented. Experimental and simulation results show that the novel electro-hydraulic valve train can achieve fully variable valve timing and lift control. Consequently the engine performance on different loads and speeds will be significantly increased. The technology also permits the elimination of the traditional throttle valve in the gasoline engines and increases engine design flexibility.

Photoelectrochemical degradation of Methylene Blue with β-PbO_2 electrodes driven by visible light irradiation

β-PbO2 electrodes were prepared by electro-deposition and characterized by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and linear sweep *** confirmed pure β-PbO2 crystals were on the electrode and it had a high oxygen evolution *** photoactivity and photoelectrochemical（PEC） properties of the β-PbO2 electrode were investigated under visible light irradiation（λ 〉 420 nm） for the decolorization of Methylene *** first-order kinetics parameter（Kapp） for dye decolorization using the β-PbO2 electrode achieved 6.71×10-4 min-1 under visible light irradiation,which indicated its excellent visible light-induced *** Kapp of the PEC process was as much as 1.41×10-3 min-1 and was 1.71 times that of visible light irradiation or electrolysis even in the presence of the β-PbO2 electrode.A significant synergetic effect was observed in the PEC *** also employed TiO2 modified β-PbO2 electrodes in this test,which revealed that the TiO2 immobilized on the β-PbO2 electrode inhibited the visible light-induced PEC efficiency despite the amount of TiO2 used for electrode *** β-PbO2 electrode was also superior to the dimensionally stable anode（Ti/Ru0.3Ti0.7O2） in visible light-induced photoactivity and PEC efficiency.

This paper proposes a novel sampled-data asynchronous fuzzy output feedback control approach for active suspension systems in restricted frequency *** order to better investigate uncertain suspension dynamics,the sampleddata Takagi-Sugeno(T-S)fuzzy half-car active suspension(HCAS)system is considered,which is further modelled as a continuous system with an input ***,considering that the fuzzy system and the fuzzy controller cannot share the identical premises due to the existence of input delay,a reconstructed method is employed to synchronize the time scales of membership functions between the fuzzy controller and the fuzzy ***,since external disturbances often belong to a restricted frequency range,a finite frequency control criterion is presented for control synthesis to reduce ***,given a full information of state variables is hardly available in practical suspension systems,a two-stage method is proposed to calculate the static output feedback control ***,an iterative algorithm is proposed to compute the optimum ***,numerical simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

An Adaptive Nonsingular Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control for Yaw Stability Control of Bus Based on STI Tire Model

Due to the bus characteristics of large quality,high center of gravity and narrow wheelbase,the research of its yaw stability control(YSC)system has become the focus in the field of vehicle system ***,the tire nonlinear mechanical properties and the effectiveness of the YSC control system are not considered carefully in the current *** this paper,a novel adaptive nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode(ANFTSM)control scheme for YSC is proposed to improve the bus curve driving stability and safety on slippery ***,the STI(Systems Technologies Inc.)tire model,which can effectively reflect the nonlinear coupling relationship between the tire longitudinal force and lateral force,is established based on experimental data and firstly adopted in the bus YSC system *** this basis,a more accurate bus lateral dynamics model is built and a novel YSC strategy based on ANFTSM,which has the merits of fast transient response,finite time convergence and high robustness against uncertainties and external disturbances,is ***,to solve the optimal allocation problem of the tire forces,whose objective is to achieve the desired direct yaw moment through the effective distribution of the brake force of each tire,the robust least-squares allocation method is *** verify the feasibility,effectiveness and practicality of the proposed bus YSC approach,the TruckSim-Simulink co-simulation results are finally *** co-simulation results show that the lateral stability of bus under special driving conditions has been significantly *** research proposes a more effective design method for bus YSC system based on a more accurate tire model.

Phytochemicals of six selected herbal plants and their inhibitory activities towards free radicals and glycation

In type 2 diabetes mellitus patients,hyperglycaemia speed up the production of advanced glycation end products(AGEs),leading to oxidative stress and various diabetic *** order to identify natural products with potential antioxidant and antiglycative properties,six herbal plants,namely Musa acuminata(flower buds),Bletilla striata(rhizomes),Amomum villosum(dried nuts),Moghania philippinensis(roots),Millettia speciosa(rhizomes),and Spatholobus suberectus(stems)were assessed for their antioxidant and antiglycative *** all the selected samples,both water and ethanolic extracts of *** possessed the highest phenolic,flavonoid and triterpenoid contents,ranging from three to six-fold higher than other plant *** consistent with its phytochemical content,*** also showed the highest antioxidant activities which are comparable,if not higher than the known antioxidants,butylated hydroxytoluene,gallic acid,rutin,quercetin and ursolic ***,*** also displayed the highest antiglycative activities among the six herbal plants measured by two glycation assays using bovine serum albumin-glucose and bovine serum albumin-methylglyoxal as model ***-QToF-MS/MS analysis identified 48 polyphenols and 76 terpenoids,from the water and ethanolic extracts of ***,where 12 polyphenols and 9 terpenoids are common in both *** results also suggested that *** contains compounds such as quercetin,luteolin,apigenin and saponin derivatives,which were reported to exert high antioxidant and antiglycative *** high antioxidant and antiglycative properties suggest the great potential of *** in preventing the formation of AGEs and oxidative stress seen in type 2 diabetes.

Ignition Pattern Analysis for Automotive Engine Trouble Diagnosis Using Wavelet Packet Transform and Support Vector Machines

Engine spark ignition is an important source for diagnosis of engine *** on the waveform of the ignition pattern,a mechanic can guess what may be the potential malfunctioning parts of an engine with his/her experience and ***,this manual diagnostic method is imprecise because many spark ignition patterns are very ***,a diagnosis needs many trials to identify the malfunctioning *** the mechanic needs to disassemble and assemble the engine parts for *** tackle this problem,an intelligent diagnosis system was established based on ignition ***,the captured patterns were normalized and *** wavelet packet transform（WPT） was employed to extract the representative features of the ignition ***,a classification system was constructed by using multi-class support vector machines（SVM） and the extracted *** classification system can intelligently classify the most likely engine fault so as to reduce the number of diagnosis *** results show that SVM produces higher diagnosis accuracy than the traditional multilayer feedforward neural *** is the first trial on the combination of WPT and SVM to analyze ignition patterns and diagnose automotive engines.
