Sensory innervation around immediately vs. delayed loaded implants: a pilot study

Although neurophysiological and psychophysical proof of osseoperception is accumulating, histomorphometric evidence for the neural mechanisms of functional compensation following immediate and delayed implant loading is still lacking. For this randomized split-mouth study, six mongrel dogs randomly received one of four treatment protocols at 36 implant-recipient sites over 16 weeks （third maxillary incisor, third and fourth mandibular premolar）： immediate implant placement and immediate loading （liP＋ IL）; delayed implant placement and delayed loading （DIP＋DL）; delayed implant placement and immediate loading （DIP＋IL）; and natural extraction socket healing （control）. Histomorphometry was performed in the peri-implant bone and soft tissues within 300 pm around the implants. Immunocytochemistry and transmission electron microscopy were used to confirm the presence of neural structures and to reveal their ultrastructural characteristics, respectively. Myelinated nerve fibres densely populated the peri-implant crestal gingival and apical regions, although they were also identified in the woven bone and in the osteons near the implant threads. Compared with the control group in the mandible, the group that received IIP＋IL showed a higher innervation （in ***^-2, 5.94±1.12 vs. 3.15±0.63, P〈0.001） and smaller fibre diameter （in pm, 1.37±0.05 vs. 1.64±0.13, P=0.016）, smaller axon diameter （in pm, 0.89±0.05 vs. 1.24±0,10, P=0.009） and g-ratio （0.64±0.04 vs. 0.76±0.05, P〈0.001） in the middle region around the implants. Compared with DIP＋IL in the mandible, IIP＋IL had a higher nerve density （in ***^-2, 13.23±2.54 vs. 9.64±1.86, P=0.027）, greater fibre diameter （in pm, 1.32±0.02 vs. 1.20±0.04, P=0.021）, greater axon diameter （in μm, 0.92±0.01 vs. 0.89±0.03, P=-0.035） and lower g-ratio （0.69±0.01 vs. 0.74±0.01, P=-0.033） in the apical region around the implants. Conservation of Quiver Trees in Namibia and South Africa under a Changing Climate

Aloe dichotoma (Quiver tree) occurs in the arid regions of Namaqualand and Bushman land in South Africa, and in arid regions of southern Namibia. The Quiver trees are not only threatened by agricultural expansion, overgrazing, and mining;but also by climate changes and droughts. Previous studies show that Quiver trees are very sensitive to environmental changes, and do not respond well to extreme hot and dry conditions. This study investigates the current status of the Quiver tree within its existing environment, and also assesses the projected future changes of the Quiver tree habitat under different climatic scenarios. It provided evidence regarding the importance of the study to understanding the climate change impacts on the Quiver tree and its geographical response to climate changes.

Background:Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy(HIE) occurs when an infant’s brain has not received adequate oxygen and blood supply,resulting in ischemic and hypoxic ***,supportive care and hypothermia therapy have been the standard treatment for ***,there are still over 20% of treated infants died and 19-30% survived with significant *** animal model was first established by Vannucci et al,involving the ligation of one common carotid artery followed by *** this study,we investigated human umbilical cord blood(HUCB) and its two components mononuclear cell(MNC) and red cell fraction(RCF) in both short and long term study using a modified HIE rat ***:In this modified HIE model,both common carotid arteries were occluded,breathing 8% oxygen in a hypoxic chamber for 60-minute,followed by the release of the common carotid arteries ligature,mimicking reperfusion *** cell therapeutic study,cells were intravenously injected to HIE rat pups,and both behavioral and histological changes were assessed at selected time ***:Statistically significant behavioral improvements were demonstrated on Day 7 and 1 month between saline treated HIE rats and UCB/MNC treated ***,at 3 months,the therapeutic improvements were only showed between saline treated HIE animals and MNC treated HIE *** histological analysis one month after cell injection,the number of functional neurons were statistically increased between saline treated HIE and UCB/MNC/RCF treated HIE *** 3 months,the significant increase in functional neurons was only present in MNC treated HIE ***:we have used a bilateral temporary occlusion of 60 minutes,a moderately brain damaged model,for cell therapeutic *** umbilical cord blood(HUCB) mononuclear cell(MNC) therapy showed benefits in neonatal HIE rats in both short and long term behavioral and histological assessments.

目的:中国失独家庭已多达百万个,65.6%的失独者存在严重而持久的抑郁情绪,需要及时干预。本研究旨在探索心理弹性与其影响因素的交互作用,比较心理弹性及其影响因素对于失独者抑郁的效应。方法:采用Connor-Davidson心理弹性量表、Zung抑郁自评量表、简易应对方式问卷、艾森克简式量表中国版、社会支持评定量表、一般自我效能感量表对长沙市9个行政区域212名失独者进行入户调查。基于Kumpfer心理弹性框架和心理应激多因素作用过程的理论模式构建假设模型并进行验证。结果:心理弹性的影响因素有:积极应对(总效应值为0.480)、支持利用(总效应值为0.359)、精神质(总效应值为-0.326)、消极应对(总效应值为0.279)、内外倾(总效应值为0.219)、客观支持(总效应值为0.077)。心理弹性对抑郁的影响以直接效应为主(总效应值为-0.344,占67.1%),也通过自我效能感发挥间接效应(总效应值为-0.169),心理弹性的总效应值占所有变量总效应的20.1%。结论:心理弹性受到人格、积极应对、社会支持等应激中介变量的直接和间接作用;心理弹性对抑郁主要产生直接负性效应,是定位于自我效能感之前的重要应激中介变量。个体-环境互动作用过程对心理弹性的影响较大,人格和支持利用通过影响消极应对、积极应对进而间接影响心理弹性。提高心理弹性应当关注个体-环境作用过程,即利用支持、积极应对、适当的消极应对,进而影响个体对自我的积极评价,这将是开发心理弹性干预方案以改善失独者抑郁的重要内容。
